Yeah, I Mistakenly posted in Dev. SORRY GUYS! Mods will you please move to correct section. Thanks. I have looked quite a bit already, and I'm not familiar with the Evo.
if you have a sd card with a backup on it you can go into recovery and load the most recent backup!
actually hold up!
download myn warn 2.2 rls5 on your pc
and then xfer it to the sd card!!!
and then boot into recovery and select install from sd
and then goto download and select myn
Edit; i didnt even notice this was in the dev section when I replied. Lost track of where I was when I replied. Normally I'd have waited until it got moved to the proper area before replying. Sorry.
I moved it to Q&A here...

HTCRALEIGHFAN, I got the phone without the original sd card, so no backup that I know of.
k2buckley, phone is used, It does go into recovery with a red triangle. I do have a good 16gb micro sd card for it. just trying to get it back to stock first then go from there. Thanks
Yeah, looks like a launch day evo (like mine). HW0002, hboot. 79 , radio 1.39
. That radio was from before the froyo update. Im curious why it has a droid sound in the bootscreen.
I, too, am curious what you get when you select recovery.
Almost like there's no rom on it? Or a froyo rom was flashed on old radio? How was anything flashed with S-on? All very curious.
But some good suggestions already on this thread. Also, it seems like sd card shouldn't matter, given that a phone can boot with no card, and that you can format your card from recovery

SORRY EVERYONE FOR POSTING IN THE WRONG SECTION!!!!
Would running an RUU help in this case? If so, you can find them in the 'universal auto root' thread. The RUU will take it back to stock, and after you boot normally, and update that bad boy, you can use the auto root tool to flash? Only thing I'm unsure of is if there's an RUU that old, and if so, will it work on a phone that won't boot? The RUU has saved my a$$ a FEW times. Might be worth a shot?
GOOD LUCK!

Fixed it with the original RUU then updated to the latest RUU. Now running 2.2 on it. It's doing fine so far. Not bad considering I paid $50 for the phone... lmao

Okay. A few problems I see. Problem number one. You are S-on. You need to be S-off in order to flash anything. Two, your radio version is waay out of date. Did you just get the phone, used? because you said "i just got an Evo..." Have you ever had it running? If not, I probably suggest flashing back to stock, then re rooting. Do you have a custom recovery right now? From the bootloader screen (the screen you posted the info above from), what happens when you select the 'recovery' option? Do you get a red triangle? Or do you get to a custom recovery screen? (would be clockwork or Amon Ra)
HTCRALEIGHFAN, I got the phone without the original sd card, so no backup that I know of.
k2buckley, phone is used, never booted up completely since i've had it, It does go into recovery with a red triangle. I do have a good 16gb micro sd card for it. I'm just trying to get it back up and running to stock first then go from there. Thanks

Okay cool. I agree, that getting back to stock is your best option from where you are right now. At that point, you can leave it, or root it and get into flashing custom roms and what not. To get back to stock, you have two options. You can either run an RUU, or flash a PC36IMG from your bootloader. Here is a link to the RUU's and PC36IMG's. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
To run the RUU, you need to have HTC Sync installed on your computer. You need to set your Evo into 'fastboot' mode, from the bootloader screen. Once it's in fastboot, connect to the computer and run the RUU. I'm not sure if you can run the most recent RUU (3.70 software), or if you need to run an older one, to match to the .79 hboot that you have. I would first try the 3.70 RUU, and see if that works. That should put you on the latest software, and update all your radios to the most recent, and update your hboot to 2.10. If you have trouble with the RUU, you can download the PC36IMG, be sure it's named exactly PC36IMG, put it on the main directory of your sd card (then put the sd card in the phone), and boot to the bootloader (power and volume down). The bootloader should then find the PC36IMG and ask you if you want to update, Select volume up to say yes. Either of those methods should flash you back to stock.

Nice, glad it worked for you. Unrevoked is easy, and has worked fine for me many times. Just uninstall htc sync from your computer, install the hboot drivers, be sure no programs on your computer can try to communicate with your evo, and run unrevoked. That's it. Just read up before diving in.
Edit: Here's a good tutorial on how to properly use Unrevoked. I've seen a bunch of people have problems with it, but I've always followed these instructions, and I've never had trouble on any of the Evo's I've rooted. Just don't use the files linked in that post, as they're most likely out of date. Download Unrevoked and the hboot drivers from the Unrevoked site, in the 'more info' section. Good luck.

Thanks again for your help! I'm very familiar with Android. But HTC's are just totally different than my Samsung Galaxy so the processes are different. Bought the EVO with the Intent on fixing the boot Issue, and using it as an "Android Alternative" to an iPod Touch/MP3 Player. I don't have service with Sprint either. But I paid $50 for the EVO, and it's specs simply B****slap the iPod's. Gonna Root it, Throw an Otterbox on it, and give Steve Jobs the finger once again!

Haha, nice! Damn, you bought it for $50 dollars [email protected]@>>?? I should try to find an evo that won't boot for 50 bucks and see if I can fix it. You got a good deal on it, is it in otherwise good shape? You can still use it on wifi too, don't forget. And you'll still have a ton more functions to use in addition to Mp3. (video, other cools apps/games, and don't forget, we have FULL HDMI mirroring for the Evo now) Good luck with your Evo, and I edited my previous post with more clear instructions on how to use unrevoked.
And yea, the Samsung Galaxy S is completely different, as far as flashing methods and terminology at least. I was just reading up on rooting and flashing for Fascinate's (to help a friend out), and I felt like a complete noob again. I had to read quite a bit to catch on to things over there. It was a completely different world!
As k2buckley said, always need to keep the radios up to date, but you should be fine now. And though rooting is the same, its different for each device. I'm soon gona root my girl friend's desire, and I had to get all the things now and do my reading so when she comes to visit I know what I'm doing.

Yeah, I've gotta replace the digitizer.. Ordered one already. Got an Otterbox Commuter on the way also.. I'll have roughly $100 in it, and it kicks the $hit outta any iPod or iPhone out there...
Yeah, The Galaxy S line of phones is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more of a pain in the ass considering every variant has a different firmware version. Thinking i'm gonna jump to GSM soon and pop my sim card in whatever phone i wanna use that day.. lol. I like the specs of the Galaxy S II http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/specification.html
Also thanks for the help, it can definately be a pain jumping from dealing with one phone to the other.. especially at 2a.m. things start to run together.. lol

I have a Telus Desire HD and I managed to downgrade then root and Radio s-off,then installed Revolution HD 5.2.3 and everything is great.
However now i am selling it and the person that wants it says he wants it stock with no root or custom anything.
Honestly I don't know how to go about it to do this and that is why I need some help from someone that has more experience and knowledge than me.
Thanks in advance and if i left out any important info about my phone let me know and i will include it.
You should have made a backup of your stock rom .
if you did flash it though recovery. It will lose root. Still be s-off but they wont know ha.
failing that you need an official ruu. This is an .exe file used. With a windows pc. You will find these in the dev forum or the htc website. Ruu will.remove s-off radio-off and the eng hboot.
if you dort have a pc or cant connect your dhd to it. Flash a stock (but custom) ·rom and tell them its done.
.if they dont mod phones they wont know the difference.

So after reading this what is your recommendation?Do i still need the gold card to flash the stock rom?
Thanks for the help bud!
Personally i would go for the first one you listed. Connect your phone to htc.sync and double click the ruu. It should run the update and return your phone to stock. No goldcard or special method needed. Let me know if it goes well?

Oh man I think something is wrong....I fired up the first RUU and went trough all the instructions and hit update and it rebooted the phone to the black screen with the htc logo and its been sitting there for like over 30 min. What should I do,should I disconnect and try again or what.
I am so scared that this damn phone is bricked, please help!!
Edit:
Wow I almost got a heart attack and thought it bricked but was relieved when it booted up again.
But now I am scared to attempt this again and I don't know what went wrong.
Did it flash the RUU? or are you still rooted?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
No,unfortunately it did not flash cause it got stuck at the black HTC screen and then I disconected the cable rebooted the phone.
And now I am totally scared to even make a second attempt but eventualy I will have to.What is the chance of bricking the phone while running th RUU?
I have never heard of it happening before but I don't want you to be the first.
I don't understand why it didn't flash. If Ruu are not compatible it won't try to flash them. Usually.
I know its not morally right. But could you flash a stock rom via recovery then remove the superuser app. Giving the impression of being stock. Will be safer for you.

Is it possible to even brick with RUU at all?I want to give it a second try but the thought off bricking is scaring me.I use to own an Iphone before I switched to Android and I had the worst experience with the Iphone that it left a mental scar on me.
Anyway I spoke to the guy that wants to buy my phone and he is basicaly now saying that he wont mind having the phone rooted but he would like to have a stock rom on it.
I tried to tell him that the current rom that I have on (Revolution HD 5.2.4) is way better than stock but he is not listening to me.
There are stock roms in the dev section. Ill grab a link for you if I have time. Bit busy at the monent sorry.
Idont think you can brick with an ruu but I'm not 100 percent. Id go with the stock rom through recovery.

Not sure why the ruu failed. But if you want to give an alternative a try is run the ruu for the first two steps, right before it begins flashing. Go into your temp folder. You'll see a folder named bunch of gibberish. In there look for rom.zip. copy it and rename it PD98IMG. Place in the root of your SD card and flash through hboot
So I am on Windows 7 and where is this temp folder located specifically?
Could it be possible that the RUU failure is caused by win7?
Sent from my Desire HD
In the start menu search %temp%.
Not sure. Could be maybe a driver issue? Did you have USB debugging on? Maybe a bad download?
I've ran ruus on windows 7. So I doubt its the os
I think I did have usb debuging on....you think tat could be the problem?
And thanks for the search tip I managed to find the folder.
I will give this a shot in the morning with a nice cup of coffee .
Sent from my Desire HD
ive always have mine to have usb debugging on when connected to a pc, but not positive that it is required for the ruu. Ive only ran an RUU a couple of times.
Also do you have HTC Sync installed? if not install it and try RUU again. Personally i prefer the PD98IMG method though. keep us posted
I do have HTC synch installed so I think that can't be the problem.
I'll try the RUU method one more time and if it fails then I will try your method.
Thank's for your kind help sir.

ok. let me know if it works. maybe try the other ruu this time. first one you tried must be wrong. good luck
Can anyone please guide me to a link where I can see how to flash this particular ROM?
I have my Desire rooted and with a CyanogenMod ROM installed, but I don't know how to flash this specific one because the guide talks about some requirements and I don't see where to start. I don't understand why some developers don't explain how to meet those requirements? I think that should be a requirement in every ROM thread.
I've already searched through the first posts of every thread that is stickied in the forum and I haven't found a step by step guide on flashing this rom and meeting the "requirements" that this one talks about.
I would really appreciate the help!
nothin much.
1)partition your memory card with ext4 partition..the rightway is fat32 first and remaining space for ext4
2)download rom for the hboot you have
3)go to recovery..make a nandroid backup if you want
4)wipe everything..flash the rom

Hello everyone, I have a htc mozart with Node (7392) installed. Unfortunately I do not have the backup file because my computer has a hard drive crash and lost all data. Is it possible to unlock maintaining the original operating system? I have the ability to create a backup file? Thanks to all
please post this in htc mozart Q &A .This is Htc desire section
Thank you for your continued efforts in helping me!
I'm still having problems!
Before you gave me that link, I searched and searched and searched...and did many of those things in the link.
I did have my device rooted already (so no problems there), so I did the S-Off from AlphaRev and it came out successful (to test I flashed a stock splash screen and it worked), I partitioned the 8GB SD card with GParted. Just like you had said in the first post (FAT32 first and then EXT4)...I did 1GB of EXT4 and the rest is FAT32. Everything was successful...the SD card was formatted afterwards....After that, I changed my HBOOT from the 0.80 stock to the CM7/r2 by using fastboot. It was successful as it shows in HBOOT.
After all of this, I downloaded the ROM and copied it to the memory card. I went to CWM Recovery and WIPED EVERYTHING a couple of times and flashed the ROM. I made sure I had the latest radio before I did that....5.17.05.23. When I rebooted the ROM, it went to HTC and the words "Quietly Brilliant" appeared. I was thinking I had it all set, BUT the screen went dark for a second and "Quietly Brilliant" came back. It's bootlooping every 3-4 seconds and it DOESN'T advance!
I've since tried to reflash through fastboot different HBOOTs, like the CM7/Stock and exactly the same!
What do you think it might be? I've NEVER taken so much time in order to flash one ROM in ANY Android phone that I've had (and I've had many).
Thanks again!
I hope you have downloaded ROM for CM7 r2 and Not CM7...beacuse there are two versions for download
in that thread..I mean just be sure to match the Hboot type and ROM type before flashing

Hey, I've actually tried both and still the same issue. I also flashed the Aurora ROM and this one won't be go past the first splash screen (while the other one went to the boot animation). Just to test, I flashed a CyanogenMod ROM and it worked just fine. Why is it so difficult to have any of these two ROMs working?
I just want a ROM that has Sense 3.0. I can't believe how difficult this has been for me and nobody else seemingly wants to try to help me.
Don't be rude. You have had help. Did you ask for help in the rom thread?

By the way, what is this?
EXT4 Partition For A2SD, No Swap New Scripe
I'm assuming he means NEW SCRIPT. I did the EXT4 partition - 1GB with no swap, but I don't know what is New Script? Was there anything else I had to do besides the partitioning of 1GB EXT4, no swap?
Also, the alignment download that he has....I've done it, but is it necessary? In what order do I do this?

I'm not being rude, partner. I said there was nobody ELSE that was jumping in on this to help me. I've already thanked him several times, but other people here have just told me to read, which I've been doing ALL DAY.
Instead of just making those comments, I ask you to please try to help as well.
Yes, I have....my comment was buried there with no help.
Ok...
Reading your posts I'm not sure you have the correct hboot. Turn off the phone, then turn on whilst pressing and holding the volume down button.
When it boots it should give you a load of info. At the top in pink it should say "Alpharev CM7r2".
Check this then let me know.
He's got the stock hboot.
Did you follow the instruction that says stock hboot users must flash stock_hboot. Zip?

cheers rootSU, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure - by the way, I've gotta get round to trying your rom some time
Anyway...
Wipe everything in recovery. Then flash the rom, and before restarting the phone flash the "stock_hboot.zip" found at the bottom of the first post on the rom thread.
EDIT: Oh, and give it time on it's first boot as it can take a while to load everything.
That's how I read it yeah.

Hey everybody! Thanks for taking YOUR time to help ME!
It works!!!! I started jumping because I couldn't believe it! 24 hours later! Haha
I have ABSOLUTELY no clue what fixed this, but I did redo EVERYTHING....from going back to stock, to doing the S-Off, changed the AlphaRev recovery to the AMON RA Desire recovery, to repartitioning a different SD card DIRECTLY from this recovery...and YES, it works!
We've given NEW life to my faithful Desire!
Thanks so much for taking out of your busy time to input your knowledge! Appreciated!
hello i bought incredible off Ebay saying stuck in power loop, figured it would be easy fix already having a incredible for a year or so but cannot make any progress. When you boot normally it goes to white incredible screen bootloops a few times and powers down. I can get into h-boot but no recovery s-on and nothing will flash properly. Any help would be much appreciated and sorry if i did not post in right section this is my first post...
When you say nothing will flash, what do you mean? Have you tried an RUU? If not, you can find both Froyo and Gingerbread RUU from here:
pvillecomp.com
sorry i was having trouble replying...yes i have tried ruu and it would load it to the side in h-boot screen and then go away...in meaning wouldnt ask me to hit up or down to install
Wait, it didn't prompt you to update? That either means the file was not on the root of your sd card in no folders OR it was not labeled: PB31IMG
it found the update but when it finished loading on right side of screen it didn't prompt me to install
i have tried everything i know to do but i know nothing about this phone what version its on or anything...i did unlock the bootloader but still couldnt get anywhere

So wait in order to unlock the bootloader you had to do an ruu exe right?
That is probably the issue, that you unlocked the bootloader with HTC dev. When doing so it updated your hboot version. Now older ruus will not work because it considers it a downgrade. What you need is a PB31IMG.zip of the exe ruu provided on the htc dev site when unlocking the bootloader. I do not know where to find one of these, but i will see if i can extract one from the exe for you. However im not sure it would work because running the ruu in the first place should have fixed the issue.

Ok try flashing this thru hboot, it is stock gingerbread ruu.
http://dinc.does-it.net/New_Hboot/StockGB/PB31IMG.zip
If it flashes see if the phone will boot.
Then try to flash this thru hboot even if the above one works or not. It is Clockwork Mod recovery 5.2.0.2.
http://dinc.does-it.net/New_Hboot/CWM_5.2.0.2/PB31IMG.zip
If it flashes see if you can enter recovery.
you are a lifesaver it let me flash clockwork...havnt tried anything else yet just got that done
well....itll go into clockwork stay about five seconds and bootloops to white incredible sceen
Change that went into clockwork once now when I hit recovery it goes to white incredible screen

I found the answers in Q&A. They, like for many others, just didn't help. I have deemed my issue to be hardware.
Unrooted device won't boot past splash with sd card inserted. Remove sd card and it's in a never ending bootloop. I've tried all the methods I picked up in here. Downloaded and attempted both RUU's through bootloader to no avail. Attempted via bootload to flash CWM...no go. Once I insert a fresh Fat 32 re-partitioned sd card with everything I need on it and try to boot, I'm stuck at HTC white screen, and the sd loses Fat 32.
I really do apologize for taking my frustration out the way I did. My sister has a Dinc and I really like the device. Sorry
Ok so I've been looking around and can't seem to find really good answers to my questions. First of all I'm wanting to root a Japanese HTC Evo 4G on version 2.3.4 Hboot 2.15. The only way I can really find how to do this is to go through HTCdev and do a bootloader unlock. Now my problem with that is that it says it will wipe all personal information on the phone during this process, which I don't want to have to go through and re-input everything again. All posts I find on this are pretty old and don't seem to apply atm. So I guess basically I have a couple questions. Can you back up this info so that you don't have to back through and manually re-input it all?? Is it safe and good to do for my phone? I'm fairly familiar with the root process as I had an HTC Evo 4G before that I rooted but ended up losing that phone and had to get a new one, that being said it was my first root ever done. Also if anybody knows of roms that work great with the AU mail service?? I had flashed a couple of roms before and couldn't get that service back on the phone no matter what I tried so stayed rooted with just stock rom. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated and links and such. Thank you
Also I should mention that I don't understand or speak enough japanese to actually feel comfortable following a japanese youtube video on how to do this. I watched 1 and understood most of what he was saying but just not comfortable enough to use it as a guide.
Use the Revolutionary tool to root your phone http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Hmm nope doesn't work. I keep getting Failed to get Root! Not sure what else to do after I punch in the beta key and hit enter it just sits at Zerging Root for about 30 secs then pops that up. Also it appears that maybe the HTCdriver is not working properly? When I look at the drivers from my computer for the phone it says 2.0.7.6 and when I click on the HTCdriver 3.0.0.007 nothing really happens except for asking for permission to run and then I hit run and that's it.
So here's a question now. I see I can delete the driver for this. Should I, then try to run HTCdriver 3.0.0.007?? Not sure what else to do atm.
Try uninstalling the driver and install them with this http://dl3.htc.com/application/sync/htc_sync_3.0.5617_us.exe
Then try using the revolutionary tool

Make sure your driver's are up to date, that HTC Sync is completely uninstalled from your computer, use a good USB cable & make sure the phone is booted to the OS.

You don't by chance have a PC36IMG file on your SD card, do you? I saw where this was causing some issues for others, particularly when the phone reboots to the bootloader. Delete the file if it's there, rename it or move it off the root of your SD card.
Also, make sure you have USB debugging enabled on your phone, and any antivirus software on your computer turned off. I've used Revolutionary to root & S-off 4 different OG EVO's and I've only had an issue once, and it was due to HTC Sync being installed on my laptop (Revolutionary would open and then immediately close).
