Hi guys, I just got an Evo that will Boot up to saying "HTC EVO 4g" on the white screen, then "evo 4g" with the Android caracter, then Says "Droid" with the droid voice... after that it gets stuck in loop.... specifics are below
NO FACTORY SD Card in it... Though I have a 16gb micro sd i can put in it.
I can boot into where I see this info.
SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.79.0000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-AMTEL224_16ab
RADIO-1.39.00.04.26
Apr 14 2010, 15:41:34
showing these options below that say
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
I'm sure there are probably files that might be needed to be on the SD card to get it back booting up properly
What do I need to do, or what files do I need?
Thanks in advance!

Okay. A few problems I see. Problem number one. You are S-on. You need to be S-off in order to flash anything. Two, your radio version is waay out of date. Did you just get the phone, used? because you said "i just got an Evo..." Have you ever had it running? If not, I probably suggest flashing back to stock, then re rooting. Do you have a custom recovery right now? From the bootloader screen (the screen you posted the info above from), what happens when you select the 'recovery' option? Do you get a red triangle? Or do you get to a custom recovery screen? (would be clockwork or Amon Ra)
HTCRALEIGHFAN, I got the phone without the original sd card, so no backup that I know of.
k2buckley, phone is used, never booted up completely since i've had it, It does go into recovery with a red triangle. I do have a good 16gb micro sd card for it. I'm just trying to get it back up and running to stock first then go from there. Thanks

Okay cool. I agree, that getting back to stock is your best option from where you are right now. At that point, you can leave it, or root it and get into flashing custom roms and what not. To get back to stock, you have two options. You can either run an RUU, or flash a PC36IMG from your bootloader. Here is a link to the RUU's and PC36IMG's. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
To run the RUU, you need to have HTC Sync installed on your computer. You need to set your Evo into 'fastboot' mode, from the bootloader screen. Once it's in fastboot, connect to the computer and run the RUU. I'm not sure if you can run the most recent RUU (3.70 software), or if you need to run an older one, to match to the .79 hboot that you have. I would first try the 3.70 RUU, and see if that works. That should put you on the latest software, and update all your radios to the most recent, and update your hboot to 2.10. If you have trouble with the RUU, you can download the PC36IMG, be sure it's named exactly PC36IMG, put it on the main directory of your sd card (then put the sd card in the phone), and boot to the bootloader (power and volume down). The bootloader should then find the PC36IMG and ask you if you want to update, Select volume up to say yes. Either of those methods should flash you back to stock.

Nice, glad it worked for you. Unrevoked is easy, and has worked fine for me many times. Just uninstall htc sync from your computer, install the hboot drivers, be sure no programs on your computer can try to communicate with your evo, and run unrevoked. That's it. Just read up before diving in.
Edit: Here's a good tutorial on how to properly use Unrevoked. I've seen a bunch of people have problems with it, but I've always followed these instructions, and I've never had trouble on any of the Evo's I've rooted. Just don't use the files linked in that post, as they're most likely out of date. Download Unrevoked and the hboot drivers from the Unrevoked site, in the 'more info' section. Good luck.

Thanks again for your help! I'm very familiar with Android. But HTC's are just totally different than my Samsung Galaxy so the processes are different. Bought the EVO with the Intent on fixing the boot Issue, and using it as an "Android Alternative" to an iPod Touch/MP3 Player. I don't have service with Sprint either. But I paid $50 for the EVO, and it's specs simply B****slap the iPod's. Gonna Root it, Throw an Otterbox on it, and give Steve Jobs the finger once again!

You're welcome
Haha, nice! Damn, you bought it for $50 dollars [email protected]@>>?? I should try to find an evo that won't boot for 50 bucks and see if I can fix it. You got a good deal on it, is it in otherwise good shape? You can still use it on wifi too, don't forget. And you'll still have a ton more functions to use in addition to Mp3. (video, other cools apps/games, and don't forget, we have FULL HDMI mirroring for the Evo now) Good luck with your Evo, and I edited my previous post with more clear instructions on how to use unrevoked.
And yea, the Samsung Galaxy S is completely different, as far as flashing methods and terminology at least. I was just reading up on rooting and flashing for Fascinate's (to help a friend out), and I felt like a complete noob again. I had to read quite a bit to catch on to things over there. It was a completely different world!
As k2buckley said, always need to keep the radios up to date, but you should be fine now. And though rooting is the same, its different for each device. I'm soon gona root my girl friend's desire, and I had to get all the things now and do my reading so when she comes to visit I know what I'm doing.

Yeah, I've gotta replace the digitizer.. Ordered one already. Got an Otterbox Commuter on the way also.. I'll have roughly $100 in it, and it kicks the $hit outta any iPod or iPhone out there...
Yeah, The Galaxy S line of phones is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more of a pain in the ass considering every variant has a different firmware version. Thinking i'm gonna jump to GSM soon and pop my sim card in whatever phone i wanna use that day.. lol. I like the specs of the Galaxy S II http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/specification.html
Also thanks for the help, it can definately be a pain jumping from dealing with one phone to the other.. especially at 2a.m. things start to run together.. lol

I've searched the forums and have not found a situation that really matches mine.
I've been running on a Cyanogen nightly build for probably two months with no problems. Out of nowhere this morning my phone reboots itself (while it was idle; I wasn't even touching it) and then gets stuck in a boot loop. I get the White HTC Evo 4G screen, then it powers off and comes back up to the white screen again. Over and over.
All I can get do is hboot. Even telling hboot to go into the recovery mode puts my back into the boot loop. Fastboot, clear storage, and hboot usb all seem to work though. I've tried downloading the PC36IMG.zip file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141) in that thread, but hboot loads it and tells me that it is older than my current version, and only gives me the option to reboot, or not to reboot. Doesn't load the image.
Here is the information on my hboot screen:

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!
you lost root, s-on
you can still start the bootloader so it's not a brick
need to get s-off before you can load recovery again and reflash your rom
have you tried the RUU? if it installs and defaults you then you can unrevoked to root

No, the app on the PC said everything was successful. The progress bar on the phone progressed without errors too.
what happens when you reboot the phone not going into bootloader?
Just the HTC EVO 4G splash screen. Over and over and over...
does it show the boot animation or just stuck on splash?
Just the splash. No animation.
pull the battery, remove your sdcard, put the battery back in, see if it gets to the animation
Doh, you upgraded your hboot. It's alright though, just run the ruu one more time and your should be ok

I asked my wife to check this thread from the car on the way to dinner. Saw the response. So I took my laptop inside with us and used the RUU one more time. No luck. I decided that it must be a hardware issue. I took the SD out and removed the evidence that the phone had been rooted, then took it to the sprint service center up the road. They just replaced it for me. Thanks for your time! I DO want to root my phone again, the ROMs are just so much better than the stock installation. Should I not install the OTA updates if I'm going to root it? Which guide should I follow for rooting?
never do OTA when rooted, use unrevoked to root, unrevoked.com

Not when rooted. I meant should I update to the latest OTA UNTIL I decide to do the root again? Is the latest OTA unrootable?
Same deal.
Here is the post that I put in the wrong forum that I was about to post here until I saw this thread...
Wellp. I win.
I win a no expenses paid trip to my nearest Sprint dealer.
Ever since I used unrevoked to root my phone in November, I've been voraciously digging through these forums for tasty roms. I've been snorting lines of Cyanogen, MIUI, and a myriad of other, well-designed roms.
Using a on older version of hboot (pre 1 methinks) I was able to avoid the latest hassles with ClockworkMod (plus, I down(up?)graded to 2.6 via RomManager).
Tonight, as I was enjoying some tasty foodstuffs at my local foodstuff vendor, my phone rebooted. Then, it rebooted again. Then again. I once made the folly of flashing a new rom without running the appropriate wipes, and was no stranger to the bootloop. I patiently fired up hboot (my poor volume rocker is all but wore out) and ordered up the trusty recovery mode.
...then it rebooted again... and again... and again.
PusSidiasus: ONOES! I HAVE THE WTFBBRICKED MY PRECIOUS!
SmartAsSidiasus: Hang on for a second, let's check the internet. Try this link: tinyurl.com/4vgeyeg
PusSidiasus: ...
Unfortunately, my internal dialogues are not nearly as witty. Also, my best attempts to de-brick-ify were for naught. Fastboot gave some wacky error message when I tried to flash a new recovery, and installing via PC36IMG.zip did nothing to improve the situation. I even went so far as to install a stock image someone pulled from an RUU (with a 2.02hboot, so as to avoid wimax woes)...
Still, a whole lotta nothing. I can't do anything beyond hboot, and whatever recovery image I install (Clockworkmod, AmanRa) the machine still bootloops.
At this juncture, I've resigned to taking the phone into the sprint store and playing dumb. It is a stock rom, though I hope the attendant misses the S-OFF bit at boot. Which brings me to my proper question:
1) Has anyone run aground a similar issue and found a way out?
OR...
2) Anyone know how to turn S-(back)ON in my current situation?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also, you can rest assured that I'll be rooting again whatever phone I walk away with, and the work that is exhibited in these forums is amazing. Keep churning out wonderful roms and guides.

Ack, sorry... didn't mention in previous post. I fired up windows to run the RUU (I don't trust wine to that stuff) but it couldn't detect the device.
I really have this huge problem that's been really bugging me all week and i cant seem to concentrate with it over my head. I am new to rooting devices and i was a little ahead of myself recently... I finally rooted my phone and over my excitement i just had to add custom roms to my Evo 4g, i didnt really understand what i was doing, i mainly followed instructions to most sites, mainly cyanogen, and got the latest version of cyanogen, i had troubles starting it up at first, it was stuck on the bootup screen for cyanogen (droid on skateboard with spark flying around) and it kept going black and reloading, i didint know what to do, so i took the battery out after a hour of waiting then i wiped my drive in fear of bricking my phone (i know i wasnt thinking) i did not make a back up of my previous point of time where i actually practically running stock, and i am still upset at that mistake, after doing a factory reset from the clockwork recovery, cyanogen finally booted up, but was missing alot of things, i.e. android market and so on... im now wanting to go back to stock and i have already got Son somehow, can anyone help walk me through this, id very much appreciate it!!

The reason that you were missing things in Cyanogen, is because you didn't flash GAPPS (google apps), which are things like Market, Gmail etc. If you already have S-on, and you're sure you want to go back to stock, unrooted, then it shouldn't be too bad for you. One way would be to download a PC36IMG.zip, place it on the root of your sd card, boot into the bootloader (power+voldown), and it will flash the factory ROM for you. You could also run RUU, from your PC. Plug phone into PC with USB cable, and run the RUU from your computer. Either of those methods should work for you, and get you back to stock. Here are a couple links that might help you.

also! i tried running the first download and it keeps saying that my phone isnt connected even if it is? does it need to be in debugging mode or what?
you have to flash most recent gapps for market.

Do you know what hboot version you have? If not, boot into the bootloader (power+voldown), and it will say hboot version at the top I believe. If you have an older hboot version, I'm pretty sure you want an older PC36IMG or RUU. If you notice, they all list different software versions (3.70, 3.30, 3.29, 3.26 etc). The 3.70 is the newest, and I believe you'd use that for the newest hboot versions (2.10 or 2.02) The older hboot's (.76, .93, .97) I believe you'd use either 3.29 or 3.30. Someone please step in and correct me if I'm wrong or misinformed. I'm also not sure if you need to be in debugging mode, I would try putting it in debugging mode for sure (I've never had to unroot, but have read up on how to do it) If you are getting the main version is older when running the PC36IMG, I would try a different PC36IMG, one with older software, 3.29 or 3.30. I've read many times of people needing to try different ones before they got it to flash. That's why there are so many on there, because different phones may require different versions, I believe.

Which PC36IMG or RUU did you try? (which software) You may need to try a couple different ones on there.
I tried to update my Hboot the other day to .92 i believe from .78. Thinking it was as simple as flashing it through bootloader and thats it. I was stuck at the white htc screen for hours so I figured I was screwed. I wiped everything with no luck and then I flashed something so now my HBoot is 0.77.0000 and my Radio is 1.00.03.04.06. I was previously running CM7 nightlies. After flashing whatever zip I did I was trying to reverse what I did by "downgrading" and what I did was delete everything. I cant boot and I also dont have recovery anymore. I can only use Bootloader. PLease any help I can get is appreciated. If u can tell me how to fix this ill make a 10 dollar donation to your paypal. My e-mail is [email protected] if u want me e-mail any information. Thanks a ton
Try the following link.
You may need to get an usb sd card reader. That way you can put the needed files using your pc.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable will come along to help you.
I read somewhere that if you can get to the bootloader, it might have not neen bricked yet.

Download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/sto....605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, Boot into the bootloader (hold vol- and pwr) and let it run the update. After it is done you will be back to a stock 2.2.
I forgot to mention in my initial post that I also updated my radio to the newest 2.15 but still had recovery after I did that and after that is when I tried to downgrade everything and lost my recovery. Didnt know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for the quick replies
Goos3y that link you sent me says 404 not found.
ok there is hope. I am a littl confused though. Do you have recovery?
No i do not have recovery only hboot. I am using my lady's Droid X with my SD card to put any files on the card that I need to.
http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 download the PB31IMG.zip put it on the root of the sd card and flash through bootloader as previously stated. Make sure it is named PB31IMG.zip or it wont get recognized. You will loose root and have S on. Thank doug piston for the dl.

this is not in the right section but if you can still get into recovery restore a working nandroid back up. after that go to backup and restore>advanced restore and restore your boot image. im pretty sure upgrading you hboot erases your boot image.
EDIT: I saw that someone posted a PB31IMG up earlier. I'd try that one first,
This is for the RUU exe.
An RUU is a program which links to any phone that can get into bootloader, and installs a completely unrooted stock image to your phone. It can be done either by using the linked program (an exe) or getting an ruu version that is a zip and running it on bootloader with a specific filename "PB31IMG.zip"
This tutorial is for the EXE version linked below.
WARNING: I have no idea what happens if this is used on an SLCD incredible.
Therefore, you need to know what kind of screen you have, and I'm no expert on that.
DONT use this RUU if you find out you have an SLCD screen.
I am not sure whether android sdk tools or htc usb drivers are nessesary for the ruu, so if anyone can comment on the necessity of these, i would appreciate it.
Heres what you need:
1. A PC
2. The RUU exe file
3. a cable to connect the PC to your phone
4. The knowledge of whether your phone is an SLCD or not.
Instructions:
1. Hook up your phone to the computer
2. Put the phone into hboot
3. Run the ruu
4. If it messes up at the usb detection thing, keep the phone plugged in, exit the ruu program, and then run it again. It should work then.
At the end of this process you should have a fully functional unrooted froyo incredible.
You dont need to give anyone $10. We all want your phone to work.

http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 download the PB31IMG.zip put it on the root of the sd card and flash through bootloader as previously stated. Make sure it is named PB31IMG.zip or it wont get recognized. You will loose root and have S on. Thank doug piston for the dl.

You will lose root (easy to get back) but will still be S-off.
You can either use the PB31IMG or the .exe method. Just grab the files off doug piston's website. We've had a lot of problems with SLCD owners grabbing the RUU off youtube and other sites then having a screen that no longer works.
I tried the PB31IMG zip method but in hboot after searching through the file it says no image. I am going to try the RUU now. Do i need to have the android sdk stuff on this computer for the RUU to run correctly? I am using a different laptop, one which does not have the driver files installed that I needed to initially root my INC.?

Unfortunately Marty, its not easy to tell which is amoled and SLCD without having the phone on to verify that its hardware revision is 002 or 003.
002=amoled
003=slcd
If you still have the box i'd recommend looking at it.
I thought you loosed s-off but ok. Did you make sure the PB31IMG.zip was not named .zip.zip?

Well, if you run it without them, and it doesnt work, it wont make anything worse. It just wont work, and then youll know. It probably has nothing to do with the SDK and more to do with HBOOT USB drivers. I would say go for it without any of that.
The most important thing you can know is that your incredible is not bricked. Its totally fixable.
I screwed mine up in precisely the same fashion early on, and used the EXE with good success.
Im positive. I got the phone in august of 10 through verizon. I dont have the box anymore. I have looked into it before and think "think" I have the amoled screen.

August = AMOLED
SLCD didnt start to ship until september.
The RUU is loading now. Its at 76% on Updating system. So, if this does work where does my phone stand? Do I need to re-root get s-off and things of that nature?
You will still have s-off. Your phone will be on a .92 hboot with the 2.15 radio. You will need to either rerun the root tool to get recovery back or use a recovery that is flashable through hboot. If using the PB31IMG didn't work for you before I suggest rerunning the tool.
Once recovery is installed do not attempt to restore from within recovery, instead download another rom and flash it through recovery.
Just wanted to drop back in and say thanks to everyone who helped me get my INC back. I really appreciate it and I can throw the BB Storm back in the closet!

The first thing, you are not rooted,in hboot you will see S-Off if you are rooted, the other thing is,you need a SD card. When you get the SD card, insert it and follow these directions....
1: Download and install HTC drivers HTC drivers
2: Download the rooting tool/program revolutionary Revolutionary, downloads are at the bottom of the page. You will need to enter in your Evo's serial number (under the battery) and be sure to save the beta key. You'll need it later..(best thing to do is copy and paste the beta key into command box).
3: Enable USB debugging (settings>applications>development>turn on USB debugging) and connect the evo to your PC as charge only
4: Un-zip the S-OFF tool and run the program, making sure to install the custom recovery when prompted. (unless you already know what you're doing and want to put Amon_Ra or TWRP recovery on there)You will need a recovery, here is Amon RA Style
5: Download SuperUser and boot into recovery. To enter recovery: power off completely, yes battery pull while off too be sure, then hold volume down+power and from there go to recovery and confirm.
6: install superuser from recovery (you must put the Superuser zip on the SD card first, before booting into recovery. Or mount your SD card while in recovery to take it too your Evo. OR, download it too your phone before booting into recovery )
YOU ARE NOW ROOTED.
7: (optional but highly recommended) Make a nandroid backup via recovery and then put it on the PC just to be sure nothing will happen too it.
This is not my tool,i'm just posting this for you.You will need a rom to install, you can get them here .
He's on Hboot 097. He can root with unrEVOked, I'm pretty sure
Which is better revolutionary or unrevoked? Which is easier?
Also will this fix my issue. I dont care if im rooted or not. Sure it would be nice. But my main worry is fixing this issue first. Than rooting. But if I can "kill two birds with one stone" than even better.

Unrevolked,is good.Yes it will fix your issue, not guarenteed, but 95% sure.Theres a possibility your phone could be toast, but lets try the unrevoked root first...

Ok thanks I gotta try it. But how am I suppose to get into usb debugging if my phone doesnt even get that far on. Just stays stuck at that screen. Revolutionary seemed easy so I hope unrevoked is also or it dont matter which one I do.

First off, you're going to need an SD card. Onto that SD Card, download this file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9362091/PC3...15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip
Rename the file to just PC36IMG.zip, and put it on the root of the SD Card. Put the SD Card into the device, and boot into HBOOT. It should recognize the file, take a while to load it, and then ask if you want to update. Choose "yes" by pressing the Volume up button. This part will take a while - it'll reboot into bootloader once during the update process, so don't be alarmed by that, and by all means, don't touch it while it's updating. Once it's done, it'll ask you if you want to reboot. Choose yes, and then we'll see if it'll boot up. If it does, then you can proceed to root it using unrevoked3. If it doesn't, then you got a raw deal and you should get your money back (I hope you used PayPal!).
ok i did everything and everything said ok except "radio_v2 -fail-pu" and at the end it says partition update fail and ask if i wanna try again

Sounds like someone sold you a semi-bricked phone. Does it still get stuck when you try booting it up? If it can't update the radio partition, then that means it's corrupt, and the phone is unusable.
it wasnt unrevoked its the pc36img that gave that error. everything else was ok.
does it still get stuck at what.part? the white screen. i think so. but doesnt flash repeatedly now. is it the right pc36img for me that

A PC36IMG.zip is just a ROM file set up to flash in the bootloader. If that won't completely flash (especially if the radio update is failing), you might be stuck. I can give you a newer one to try, but then you'll have to use a different rooting method, if you get it to successfully update.
I don't see why it would work, though.
ill try another img file. what other way to root? isnt the way where you gotta save serial number or what not the easiest way!?

Based on your info your ONLY way to root is unrevoked.

which means if i do another img file ill never be able to root?

You can keep trying to flash a PC36IMG.zip ruu but if you keep getting a radio pu error there is no point
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
so there no way to fix it or the radio or this problem of it not being able to boot past this whogr boot up screen. or if i got insurance will it get replaced for free.
Some1 sold you a phone that was bricked. The radio update is failing cuz that's how it got bricked in the first place...bad radio updates. That is the most common way bricks happen. Get your money back asap. End of story.

Ok, I rooted with unrevoked a long time ago. Broke my screen and need to unroot. I followed the unroot unrevoked guide as closely as I could, but the rom in the link was not found. So I downloaded a different ruu.zip of factory rom, don't ask me which one, because I can't find the link anymore, but currently here is where I stand. Hboot kept saying that the img was older or something, and wouldn't flash. So I did a stupid thing and pushed the zip with clockwork. So now I'm running s-on with clockwork recovery and a stock unrooted rom. So, I tried the next thing, downloaded an 3.7 ruu .exe and tried to run that from windows, but it gives me an hboot usb connection error f*ucking **** 1 thing after another.
This is the unrooting guide I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
I got s-on, and tried that pc36img but it wouldn't work, originally. Before I went on to screw things up.
I've been at this for hours, something that should have taken 10 minutes if I wasn't an idiot, or bad links, or what ever. Can someone tell me or point me in the right direction, of what to do here, preferably not to a 2 year old thread with outdated links? What should I do?`
A List of android stock RUU zips with radio, pri, recovery all in one would be great, but I give up on trying to find that, its buried or does not exist.
I found this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs but its just the rom not everything.
So here is where my phone stands
S-ON
Hboot .97
Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7<<<<<<
Android version 2.2.2
Build number 4.54
PRI 1.90_003
Angrychair420 here is a stock RUU that I know is good you should be able to run the RUU from windows.
http://geekfor.me/evo/ruu/evo_ruu_1326511/
thanks, that says its img version 1.32.651.1, assume thats safe to use. I assume thats andoid 3.26 which is what came on my phone. Ugh I'm in over my head. Why did my screen have to break, i was totally happy with CM7 and everything the way it was.
what if I wipe my data and caches, remove SD card, put on a PC36IMG.zip and boot the phone into hboot, will it still give me the older version error?
edit: the link you gave me gives me the same error as the other ruu.exe:
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again
Possibly but I did have to return mine for repair and I know that using it as a .exe file trough windows I had no problem. Not sure about making it into a PC36IMG.zip file though I have not tried it that way.

It might. There are 3 PC36IMG files in the first "My Links" link in my signature. You can try them in order if you'd like, if you get the "main version is older" message, but if the first two don't work, the last one definitely will.
Thanks cpt, about to give them a try. Sigh man, this is frustratingly harder than rooting :-D If it was as easy as doing the s-on and copy the pc36img.zip to the root of sd and booting into hboot and DONE, I would of been having a much better day.
Try the latest RUUs from this link man:

yes, they are basically the same method I used in my OP from xda forums.
On to captain_throwbacks second ruu.
Just to make sure, this all isn't in vain, and make you all hate me, after applying one of these successfully, my recovery should go back to factory and no longer be clockwork, right? or wrong, because I'm starting to think I am. But won't taking your device in for service with clockwork be a dead giveaway that it was rooted.
I think I'm just going to go get a new phone for a $100 deductible at this point. and replace the screen my self on my old one and keep it as a backup/test device. Thanks for all the help, but I am surrendering :-D hopefully I can reroot this thing again with unrevoked, since my hboot is still .97 and fix the screen my self.
It generally doesn't matter if its rooted. I've never unrooted since launch day. And I've had 3 screen replacements, 3 speaker rwolacements , a bezel replaced, and camera lens cover replaced (last time, I dropped it off with ICS), about to go get my 4th screen (just cracked it again lol).
Sorry for your experience/frustration.

well last stupid question i promise, since i still have clockwork isntalled, i can just restore my CM7 backup, but how do i get s-off back, re unrevoked it i assume?
If your'e worried about the warranty thing, just flash a stock rooted rom, or use a phone repair service. i see three or four repair places on craigslist (granted, that you live in a large city).
yeah no worries. Got it back to S-OFF, and CM7 back on it, just going to fix the screen my self, ordered one for $15.
thread can be locked, deleted, or what ever.
Seriously. Dude, isn't there a sprint store near you?. Just take it in. Put a stockish rom on it if you're that worried about it. They should replace it for free.
