I just tried this a hour ago or so and once I deleted ADW I could go back to the home screen because I didn't have a launcher no more

You can't just uninstall all the launchers on the phone. You must have one installed to go to the homescreen. CM7 (and similar ROMs) have ADW built into the ROM and not just tacked onto the top of the stock ROM.
I guess I will post this yet again. Here's how you get the stock GB 2.3 launcher on your CM7 phone:::
You can find the mod here in the Nexus S forum: THREAD.
Download the first file and flash through recovery. You'll lose all your homescreen placements and widgets you have set up with ADW.
If you want to flash this over nightlies every day, you need to follow a specific order to not lose your placements again.
1) flash CM7 nightly via recovery (not ROM manager)
2) after install, stay in recovery (don't boot up into the ROM!), go to Advanced > Reboot recovery
3) after recovery reboots, flash the launcher mod
Just in case you're lazy, I've attached the file also.

And my answer: You can't do that. You need to install the stock launcher first....

If you have LP installed already, can you then uninstall ADW?
When I was using stock ROM, I used LP and liked it just fine. Now that I am on CM7 RC1, ADW won't keep my custom icons. I am not even using icons I made either, I am using the ADW icons.
For example, I changed the dock icons to a different market icon, phone, messaging and internet globe. Then after a few hours, I will look down at the phone and one of the icons will be back to the stock icon. Then a little while later, another one will be back. I have tried changing them back, locking the desktop and nothing.
I am fine with ADW, except for that, so if there is something I can do to fix it, please tell. If not, how can I switch to LP? I don't really want the stock launcher..

install LP from the market if you don't already have it,
go into your applications, go to "All", find ADW,
open it up and clear defaults.
press "home" and you should be prompted to select an action (check the Use as default box, then select LauncherPro)
should be golden.

[Q] Getting stock launcher on CM7

hey i was just wondering if there was anyway to either override or get rid of ADW launcher on CM7. i downloaded a stock launcher from the OMGB forum and flashed it and it worked, but i just woke up and its suddenly gone. i flashed it again and nothing happened. do i need to use a different download? or disable something? sorry i'm somewhat new to this xD
Have you tried one from the market?
Or did you try removing ADW manually or with root explorer after you install stock launcher?
Search "gingerbread launcher" in the market.

Or just flash this- Its from OMGB so credit goes to R2
Direct Link: Stock Launcher - Right Button Mapped to Browser
or download it from OMGB page
OMGB
I was thinking that flashing was easier because I flash cm7's latest rom almost everyday and then I can flash this with it. Or is the market one stay on phone through flashes since it's not in system/app because that would be much easier either way you have to delete custom launcher in titanium or something else.
Can you recommend any of the gingerbread launchers on Market. Most seem to be modified for froyo...

[Q] Replace ADW [free] with ADW EX [paid] on CM7?

Really simple question, hope the answer's simple.
Is there some way to remove the free/lite version of ADW and make it so ADW EX/paid is the only option on CM7/EVO?
Just install adw ex and use titanium backup or root explorer to delete it.
Sent from my Dark WiMax infested CM7 Super...Mario...Street Fighter...Saiyen... oh yeah SuperSonic!
I think it will reinstall with the nightlies though. I just installed EX and set as default. Since it uses the same folders every update it will keep all your settings you saved.
I do this every time I flash a new version of CM:
- Obviously, I backup with Titanium and then do a Nandroid backup... duh
- Clear out everything, and flash the new ROM and GAPPS, et al
- Boot in, and install all the apps I want
- Load the ADW.EX launcher and set it to your default
- Uninstall ADW Launcher (free version) with Titanium Backup
- Use Root Explorer to move org.adw...whatever from /data/app/ to /system/app/
- Reboot
It's very easy. If you're wanting to flash the new RC zip over your existing ROM, then I don't really care about your problem. It's just not a good idea to do that anyway, and it's not worth the issues it could cause.

That's not true. I flash the RCs right over the nightlies every single time one comes out and I've never had a single problem.

There is nothing wrong with flashing an RC over a nightly. Its a good idea to wipe cache a dalvik but you don't have to wipe data. Unless you are completely changing roms, sense to aosp, or there is a change to the framework of the rom you shouldn't have to do full wipe.
And as far as adw it is in every cm release since adw is the launcher cm uses. If they didn't include adw then there would be no user interface. So you would have to install the paid version everytime and delete the free one.

Hi,
I was wondering, is it possible to uninstall the Android stock keyboard on my cell (CM7) with "Root uninstaller"?
That's pretty large, 11MB, and I'm using SwiftKey... So that could be great.
Thanks!

If you want to replace ADW, yes its possible and basicly recommended since CM uses old build of ADW, even tough its made for system use. But yes its possible. And its recommended to do it the way I have done it.
1) get Titanium backup from market, free version will do just fine
2) get an app that can browse root and set permissions (Root browser free recommended)
3) get the launcher APK you want to replace ADW with, it can be old version, market will update it to the latest.
Once you have all these
1) Rename your desired launcher "Launcher.apk"
2) Copy it to system/app
3) Set its permissions to match this
Code:
Read Write Execute
Owner X X X
Group X
Others X
4) Reboot phone
5) after reboot press home and choose your desired launcher
6) delete ADWlauncher via Titanium backup (Also any other app can be removed using TB, default keyboard for example)
Hope you get your desired launcher
Replaced mine with MIUI ADW Launcher btw
I just installed Go Launcher, and removed ADW with root uninstaller.
Working great.

yes why not... but make sure to have nand baskup whenever you do anything like that...
it can be done with dialer, msg app, keyboard, stock browser, launcher or anything like that... just install new one, make it deafult, set it up, try it few days and see if it crashes or bugs, if not, just uninstall with root uninstaller what is no more needed

Use an app called Root Uninstaller and uninstall it from there.
Or
Use Root Explorer to remove ADWlauncher.apk from system/app
But seriously, there is an almost same thread right below this one which has the answer.

You can use the System App Remover to remove the aps that you don want. But be careful as it deletes system app as well.. so make sure you install an alternate launcher before removing t=ADW

[q] ics tips

Ok I'm about to install the gedeROM ICS v1.35. Before I do I want to make sure I don't screw it up. I have TWRP2.1.1 And I backed up everything. I have the Rom loaded to sd card. So as iundertsand I boot in recovery wipe factory restore wipe davik cache flash .zip rebooted and enjoy. Anything I should know before I do this or does it seem that easy and straight forward. I was hit with problems first time trying to do it on win xp Pc. Win 7 everything was smooth with the root. Any help would be appreciated.
I'd suggest before you wipe anything to do a backup of your current ROM. I typically wipe dalvik AFTER flashing the ROM as well as BEFORE.
success
Everything went well with install. Not a single problem. Thank you developers
FYI for people who like to constantly update their ROMs like I do - I would suggest the following:
1) buy the Titanium Backup Pro key - you will use the crap out if it to batch backup/restore your apps & data after a wipe and fresh ROM install
2) Using TB to restore your apps + data works great, but what about your homescreens? Don't forget to backup your homescreens...usually you can do this through the settings menu on whatever launcher you are using. I'm using GedeROM 1.3 and I prefer the Apex launcher over the Trebuchet launcher. In Apex settings menu, you have the option to backup/restore desktop. I'm pretty sure most of the big name launchers have this same option. So when I update the ROM with a new version, all I have to do is restore my apps w/ TB and them restore the desktop through the Apex settings. Of course, this doesn't work if you switch launchers when you change ROMs

You can go to manage apps, select your current launcher under all apps, and clear defaults. Then, next time, when you click the home button, you should be prompted to select a launcher.

You could try installing GO Launcher EX. When you hit home it will ask what launcher to use. From here use Apex and select default. Then uninstall Go Launcher (if you want)
I installed root app remover and got rid of the two launchers that came with the from. Then got go launcher
