Ok guys i have a T-mobile G2 rooted running a sense rom and i was wondering if i could trade my phone in for the new droid incredible S coming to T-Mobile if so do i need to unroot my phone also do i have to make a new contract?
Thanks in advance
As far as I know, T-mobile doesn't offer a general trade-in program... Did you see somewhere that they did?
You're better off just selling your phone and buying the new one anyways, trade-in programs never give you anywhere near the value of the phone. Rooted phones often fetch a bit more than unrooted ones anyways if they're in good condition.
If you did do some sort of trade-in, they'd require you to sign a new contract anyways unless you were going to pay the full difference between the used G2 and the unlocked new Incredible S. They probably wouldn't give you much for the G2 and a new Incredible S is probably somewhere around $500 unlocked, or $200 on contract. So either way you're gonna be paying some money out of pocket.
My g2 is under 30 days old i just got it with T-mobile had no idea the incredible S was coming T-mobile so anu other tips you can provide also if the phone is 200 on contract would my g2 deduct from that

Unless you live in CA (different law) the return policy for brand new phones is only 14 days afaik.
If you are able to return it, T-Mobile charges you some type of restocking fee, I think its pretty cheap though.
Not really sure what the Incredible S will be selling for retail, or when its coming out for sure... its supposedly coming to Europe first, and those dates aren't even set yet, so I'm not sure what your plan is in the meantime for waiting...
But in order to return your G2 and keep your contract until the S comes out, you'll have to keep paying for the account and hope they credit your $200 for the G2 back onto the account/credit card.
Or if you started a new account you can probably cancel it within the return period and start a new one when the Incredible S comes out. But then you'll be without a phone for that period.
Why not just call T-mobile and ask what their return policy and restocking fees are?
ok thanks ill just wait till my next upgrade then sounds like a lot of trouble what phone are u planning on upgrading to i just want a phone with a FF camera
Truthfully if you wait till your next re-up the phones we have now are most likely going to look like childs play if the technology leaps that are happening now are any indication. As for what anyone would get at that point right now it's anyones guess considering that's another 2 yrs down the road.

Seem like a good deal, is it not? Also, would it work with 3G/HSDPA on AT&T and Media Net?
A TmoUS TP2 WILL NOT work on AT&Ts 3G at all, just EDGE. If you're with AT&T, just buy their Tilt 2
Damn, it was just intriguing for me because I was going to trade my Fuze plus $100. Alright, I'll just try and sell the phone for $300-$250 and put it towards the full price . No upgrade till 10/1/10.
AT&T mentioned something about me getting the 2 year contract price on a new phone plus $75. Anyone ever heard of this?

For the TP2? I doubt it unless that's a new customer price. Existing customers upgrade price is usually significantly higher but i don't know how att uprgrades work. Usually they advertise lower prices for new customers to lure them into a 2 yr contract. TMobile new customers get it for $149 but for existing customers upgrade it's like $350! Should be the other way around if u ask me.

just ask them for an early upgrade. if not then tell them that you want to cancel. im sure they will let you upgrade if you say you're gonna cancel.
Hello, I have a question...
On the 25th of April, I joined my Moms Sprint plan, and signed up and got the Sprint Hero. I did this at Radioshack, and according to account management, I have an upgrade already? Says I recieved it on the first of May. Is this a real upgrade, or just a glitch in the system? My wife also signed up on that same day and had a upgrade as well, we used it to get a phone, and it went through and everything, so I assume it's real..
Anyways, my question. I'm wanting to upgrade to the EVO on the 4th, what do I have to do with my current Sprint Hero? I was wanting to sell it on eBay as they sell for ~$200, which would cover the Evo. But, do I have to wait a certain time frame before I can sell it since I just bought it on the 25th as it was discounted, not paying full retail? I'd rather sell it then doing the trade-in thing through radioshack and only getting half what it's worth.
Thanks for any responses. Hope this is clear on what I'm asking...
Upgrade, pay for the phone and sell your hero after.
or
Get a cheap prepaid phone or extra phone lying around the house.
Call and change the ESN number
Sell your Hero
Hold the cash until June 4th
This will give you plenty of time to customize the Hero and sell it as is.
Does the whole Radioshack making you stay with your phone for 181 days or whatever only apply to online? I didn't pay the most attention when it was all keeping set up, but I believe they said I need to keep the phone active for 30 days. So is it safe to assume that after the 25th I can go ahead and sell the hero and switch to whatever phone I want to? And would Radioshack still offer me the upgrade for the Evo if I no longer have my Hero and am just using some cheap phone?

If you're eligible for upgrade you'll be eligible at RS. They will be able to see your eligibility just fine. I WOULD however go to a Sprint corporate store and make sure you are eligible for an upgrade and not an EARLY upgrade. There is a difference in the amount you would be paying for the phone. Once you verify with them then head over to RS and pre-order.
By the way don't get the insurance through Radioshack. Get it through Sprint. Radioshack will tell you they give you a loaner phone but I believe it to be BS. Just pay the $7 through Sprint and eat the deductible. It's a better process overall.
it's an upgrade, according to sprint.com it's $150 off.
not sure why i'm eligble for an upgrade when i just got the line under 30 days ago..
i think i'll probably end up keeping the hero until i get the evo and then sell it to play it safe.
Can anyone else help with this situation? More answers would make me more comfortable. Don't want to be charged full price for the Hero or anything :\

As long as the system says you're eligible, its fine. Sometimes these things happen. You wont have any issues from the shack if you go ahead and use that upgrade. (Assuming you got it from a store and not online)
So, as said above, get your EVO then sell the hero to recover the cash
*I'm a manager for Radioshack if it makes you feel better*
I am going to Pre-Order this phone when its available, however I have never done it.
Has anyone tried it with a phone in high demand? Like the Droid Incredible or the iPhone? I am just curious if I need to do it the very first day its open in the morning or am I safe to do it within the first day or two?
I bought my Dinc after its release and had to wait about a month to get it...PIA. I don't want to go through that again.
P.S. My upgrade isn't until March 3rd, but I was told I could maybe get an early upgrade. If not then one of my employees has a standard phone and no desire to upgrade so I could switch upgrades with him from what I understand.

I hignly doubt that the GN is going to be a "high demand" device.......but because the nexus is finally going "main stream" i think they will have a large supply....
My guess is that you'll be able to walk into a Verizon or Best Buy store and pick one up on the first day. Having one deliverd on the first day could be iffy.
i'm dropping my sprint contract a few months early, paying them $100 to do so, selling my evo 4g on swappa, and then getting in with flynn @ verizon the day of GN launch. $400 venture minus the profit i make on the evo (assuming less than $200).
I preordered my incredible from Verizon and was lucky I did with the crazy demand and supply issues the phone had. I have doubts there will be a need to preorder the nexus as it has more competition and no known supply issues like the Inc had.

when web only sale hits does anyone know what time they normally release phones? 12midnight? East coast or West coast time? Phone lines open at 6am east coast time because I had to get special permission to upgrade my wife 3 days early on the Droid 3.
I preorder a few verizon phones. You don't need to preorder it right away. You should be able to wait a few days to preorder and still get it day 1.
I have a $400 best buy gift card from doing a buy back with my nexus s. when this phone comes out, i will be buying my phone at best buy so i can get another buy back option plus I'll be selling my basically brand new samsung galaxy s2 + 32gb sd card + 2 batteries which should offset the 200 ETF to move over.
god, i'm gonna hate having a 2gb tier program.

yes you are. so.... why are you switching carriers for it? Do you really want to have LTE?
@martonikaj:
Like DammitCubs, I am also switching from T-Mobile. Truthfully, I am not that hard up for LTE, but there's an ongoing 3G/4G outage in my neighborhood that T-Mobile doesn't seem to be doing anything about. Take a look here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223379
With regards to tiered data, I'm currently on a 5GB full speed plan with T-Mobile, but I've never gone over 2GB. I don't think Verizon's plan will be an issue.
Verizon is offering a 2 for 1 program. If you buy the 2gb for $30, you get 4gb!

So my brother needed a new phone badly and he went out and switched to sprint (from verizon) and got a galaxy s2 today. I know the galaxy s3 is coming out in 15 days.
Now as far as I see, Sprint has a 14 day return policy for the phones. Do you think there's any way he would be able to return the phone in 14 days and get the galaxy s3 the next day?
The tricky part is that he's switched from verizon, so if he returns the phone, I don't know if he can still keep the wireless plan or is eligible for a new phone. Does anyone have experience with what happens if you sign up for a new plan but then keep the plan and just return the phone? Are you still eligible for discounts on the phone then? I could give him an old touch pro 2 to keep the account active for a couple of days if needed.
Thanks for any tips.

Well the policy is 14 days. And the day he got it counts as day 1. And if you return it within the 3rd day they will credit back the activation fee. If you return after the 3rd day (4-14) they will stick you with the activation fee. Also if the reason that he is returning it is just because he wants the gs3 they might charge him with a $35 restocking fee. As soon as he returns the device the reset the upgrade .So my advice is to return asap if he is still within the 1-3 days. And the only way for him to keep his number and plan is to activate the extra TP2 that you said you have. Hopefully this helps

Hey!
I have some experience with this, and I can tell you (at least, again, from my experience) that Sprint will let you do something like that... if you switch the phone on the same day.
I think if you call in advance, maybe they'll make some leeway for you, or at least explain what you can do. But sorry, I don't know about whether or not you can return the phone and then wait, and pick it up.
However, for me, on the 13th day following my contract extension I was able to replace an Evo 3D for an E4GT, no problems at all.
Also... maybe you can exchange for a pre-order? That's just a thought...
Thanks for the replies so far. In all honestly, that Galaxy S 3 will be mine! lol. So if the upgrade gets reset I can have him activate my old palm treo or the touch pro 2 and then once he gets the galaxy S 3 I'll just pay him the 35 bucks if need be. He will then get my galaxy S2, so nothing lost on his end.
why didn't he just go to walmart and get a cheap pay-as-you-go phone for $40 to tie him over until the s3 is available? would've been cheaper than the mess he got himself into.

He needs the phone for business and he was actually just planning on keeping the Galaxy S2. So it's technically me making things complicated because I think the upgrade is going to waste getting an S2 instead of S3.
You can do it. The thing is you or him needs to exchange one device for the other at the moment in the grace period. But not return it and stay without a phone till SGSIII arrive. Good luck.

Wait so this thread is about you wanting an s3 and talking your brother who had to have a phone and got one he probably likes since the s2 is one of the best phones ever made(imho) and now you want to cost ALL OF US INCLUDING YOURSELF IN THE LONG RUN MORE MONEY? Dang..... thats worng and I hope with all sinceraty your brother returns his s2 and keeps his s3 for himself.
if you dont think you are costing us money by waisting a completley good device that will have to be sold to asurion then wait until the next hike in sprints prices ex: TEP goes to $11 next month we have it good with unlimited data but since sprint customers try to cut so many corners the company is being forced to find ways to make up the money...... and I already know you dont care bout coporate america blahblahblah, we'll see when your in the "omg I cant believe sprint is charging me for this now thread"

I'm not sure if i exactly understand what you are saying. The grace period is 14 days, but the new phone comes in 15 days.
My plan is to go on the 20th (the 14th day of the grace period) and tell them he doesn't want to keep the galaxy s2, but wants to keep the plan. Then I will have thenm activate a treo or TP2 that I have laying around in lieu of the gs2, wait until the next day or two when the GS3 is out (he will have to use the treo for a day or two) and have him purchase the GS3 at that time.
Crossing my fingers and hoping that works.

I appreciate your opinion. However, I am not doing anything outside of Sprint's own limitations. They have a 14 day grace period for you to try out the phone. I will end up paying 35 dollars likely for returning the galaxy s2 as well. The whole purpose of the 14 day grace period is if you change your mind. I am more informed on the subject than my brother and have convinced him that the galaxy s2 was not a good choice when the s3 is coming out. I believe that is a legitimate reason to return the S2 and get the S3

OK not gonna start a war w you bout this but if that were the case they wouldn't ding the sales rep who sold you your device when you exchanged it, even worse if it is 3rd party you lose you comish all together. The policy is so if you are absolutely unable to learn a device or it does not fit into your lifestyle such as work or things of the sort, it not put in play so we can test a device or borrow for 2 weeks bottom line weather you believe it or it straight up coat the company money period and if we dont preserve what we have it will be gone.

I take no offense to your post and understand your stance on it. I was not aware that the representative loses their commission if the item is returned, but that does make sense considering that sprint did not make any money on it. Considering that fact, I can try to return to the same representative when purchasing the galaxy s3 to minimize his loss at the very least.
Won't work, you have to do a direct exchange within the 14 days. If you return it, they'll cancel the account which will cancel his number. If you "activate a treo in the mean time", his 14 days is still running, meaning he'll be out of luck come the 15th day. Best bet is to call customer care to see if they will let you pre-order the S3 and use a temp phone in the mean time.
Should have waited one more day.
EDIT: As long as you exchange the device, the rep still makes commission for the activation. If you outright return it, they get charged back for it.

Thanks for the tip. Although I don't understand why he wouldn't be able to keep the phone line without keeping the phone. I guess they are linked? Would he be able to just activate another sprint line without purchasing a phone and just transfer the line over to there?
I think I'll just have to go down to Sprint with him soon and figure all this out. In the end if we can't do it it's not a huge loss. The GS2 is and will still be an awesome phone. It would just be awesome to have the latest and greatest
He can return the phone completely on last day then buy the SGSIII when it comes out. Or just return the SGSII ina week then get another phone to reset his 14day period

Exchanging does not "reset" the 14 day guarantee. If you exchange on day 14, that's the phone you're stuck with.
on a somewhat related note, you only get one exchange during that 14-day period so be sure to choose the exchange wisely.
So after all of that my brother decided to stay with Verizon because he wasn't happy with the wireless service on sprint. No new phone...

Apparently bit too late but still may be someone will use this info.
I was due for upgrade last year in july when EVO 3D came out.
I had a Samsung Moment and I used my upgrade to get EVO 3D.
Back than it was 30 days grace period.
I kept EVO 3D for about 2 weeks and couldn't get used to it. So I returned it to Sprint and went back to my Samsung Moment.
My account has been reset and money has been refunded except for $35 restocking fee.
It all happened in July.
6 months later in December I used my upgrade to get SGSII.
So if you have account and you return the phone you still keep the number and contract. At least it's true for upgrades.

Just to clarify things yes the number and the ESN from whatever device you have at that time are linked. If you return the device you cannot keep the line open as it will not have a valid ESN attached to it.
I am due for an upgrade with Sprint. I am currently on the Evo 4g. There seems to be some good holiday deals on the S3 right now. I was thinking about jumping on one of these. However, after doing some reading it looks like the S4 may not be too far around the corner. Any thoughts on waiting it out or even waiting for the first of the year for some of the new HTC line? I know waiting with a subsidized carrier like Sprint means you're basically losing money, so I'm trying to decide the best course of action.
I would say just get the s3 its an amazing phone I'm running cm10 on it right now and its super fast stable and the battery life is amazing! The s4 most likely won't be out until next summer if you want a major upgrade I would say wait for the galaxy note3 or the nexus5!

I got mine on black friday so it was impossible to turn down. I had the evo, but it just wasn't cutting it. Rooted and everything stripped out of it, I still couldn't have facebook, google music, google maps, and skype installed at the same time because of storage issues. I really like the s3, and if you can get a good deal on it, you might as well. My gf still has the evo, and she's now eyeing my s3. If you want to wait for the s4, you might as well wait for the s5 or s6, or whatever... My philosophy with tech has always been, what will benefit me the most now, because if you always have in the back of your head that you plan to upgrade, you never will. Do it now, or do it never lol
I'm currently leaning toward the upgrade, but I may have just been dealt a blow. I checked with Amazon and they said I'm not eligible for the $50 price because I'm a current customer (despite that I'm up for a two year contract extension). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is this true?

That doesn't make sense. Could you print out price from Amazon and go to best buy for price match?
I could see if they still had premier upgrades after first year but you have fulfilled your 2 year obligation to sprint. You're a free agent now.

That's what I figured as well. I haven't really found any information on the internet about people upgrading after a 2-year contract either. Has anyone successfully done so through Amazon or any other retailer? Perhaps I was mistaken when I thought the discounted price applied to me?
Also, will it matter that I am on a SERO plan? Don't want to lose that guy!

Easy call, if you see an outstanding deal on the S3 ($50 or under) then snag one. If a deal doesn't come your way then hold off. I'm on the SGS3 right now and it is a pretty amazing device. I was able to get it for $50 through Sprint on the Black Friday stuff, my wife's SGS3 on the other hand we shelled out $250 for, and we just wish we had waited the extra couple of months *Grin*.. Of course if you are like some and Money isn't an issue Get Both !
Just got mines Today at Best Buy for $49.99. One day sale!!!
Got mine black friday, price matched from sams at walmart. Got a $100 gifrcard too. Freakin sweet! Id say get this phone, its gonna be one people still want a year from now. Promise.

I also had the original Evo 4G for two years wating on the SIII to come out.
At this point, you might as well wait for the SIV to use your upgrade option. Shop around for deals on SIII online and you might just be able to snag both phones.
It is an amazing phone though. I can say with confidence that i'll keep it until I get a good deal on a SIV, after the first few months after the launch date.
Well after talking with Sprint Employee Account (I'm on a SERO-P plan), they offered me $75 off my bill for the next two months to effectively make the S3 $50. I went ahead and took the plunge! I should have the phone tomorrow.

I'm currently leaning toward the upgrade, but I may have just been dealt a blow. I checked with Amazon and they said I'm not eligible for the $50 price because I'm a current customer (despite that I'm up for a two year contract extension). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is this true?

Just get the s3. Still a strong selling phone. Stay away from HTC. They tend to stop updates to there phones after they have been out for a short time. I don't think the note3 will be out anytime soon since the note2 just came out. S4 won't be out until sometime next year probably.

I decided to go ahead and take the plunge for the S3. I was eligible for the early upgrade and I had the Buy Back program from Best Buy. If I waited for the "next" phone I would have lost the Buy Back. Turned out the S3 was $99 and the Buy Back gave me $130 on my old Epic 4G, so I made out pretty well. Got the phone and had some left over cash to use on a case.
