bricked usb?....Guru where are you?.....Help! - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone...I have a problem..I tried to use the Firerat zips to increas my internal storage, and during the flash of the zip file the phone hung and I had to pull the battery out.....since then the usb wont mount.
I am using a Tmobile mytouch slide 3g.
I tried using the sdk and running the fastboot commands etc to get the sd card to mount...no go.
I have tried the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 command and no go....
Note:..My sd card works fine in a card reader on my computer,
Finally i downloaded the stock rom, and i was able to put it on the card, and rename it ESPRIMG.zip and installed it through recovery...My phone was rooted and S-off running ginger, but now back to stock...S-on, and hating the phone now...lol.....
Can someone please suggest what I may try doing?I am pretty savvy with computers but some of the adb/shell stuff is very confusing to me, I dont like cmd prompts...so maybe a detailed explanation?..
Thank you so much for taking your time to read my problem, I really appreciate it very much.....Dirtylarry
"Kharma...It's a good thing"

Is this for a myTouch Slide?

Yes mytouch slide 3g

do you not have a back up this is why they tell you to backup before you flash anything so you don't have to do a stock flash load your backup if so
if not you'll have to reflash everything you had
edit: btw you know slide has there on section
so wrong section
grr

Why did you flash the stock image through recovery? You should have done it via hboot. You get into hboot by holding volume down and power. Is that what you meant? Try flashing the image again.
This is the wrong forum for the slide btw. You need to post in the HTC Espresso forum.

I don't get it...
Are you looking into getting usb functionality to work again (hence the "bricked usb" in the header)
or
Mounting the sdcard through usb?
Because the 2 have completely different solutions.
Do you have usb connection and can you issue adb commands?

Sorry all...thought u was in the slide forum...yes it was hboot...when I pkug usb cable in to comouter....the is says device not recognized...but its not a driver issue....since the corrupt install this has happened...if I place sd card in card reader I can access it...but if in phone I cannot...when I try to flash a cystom rom...the phone says e drive is nor accessible...so therefore cant do anything other than my hboot that put security back on and returned me back to stock rom....thank you.

I think you messed up your MISC partition.
You can fix by getting a "copy" of the misc from a similar device.
Then flash it using the flash_image binary... this should fix the bricked usb connectivity :0)

Thanks for the reply about flashing misc image...can ya provide a detailed explamation on this ?thanks for your time.

Make sure you start posting in the right forum. You can brick your device by using instructions intended for another device! This is the second thread that I saw posted by you in the wrong forum. Please becareful. I'll be moving this thread (and the other one) to the MyTouch Slide forum. You should probably bookmark them!

[Q] Rooted Desire stuck between ROMs!!! HELP!!!

Hi guys, I've had my Desire rooted for around 2 months and have used loads of
ROMs/Mods etc. It's fair to say I know the procedure. At the moment though I'm
puzzled and worried because I have lost my previous ROM and can't get a new one
on!
I was flashing a new version of Pinky Desire over the previous one (without wiping)
and it never got to the reboot screen. So I took out the battery and put it back in
to reboot it. It got to the custom boot screen and no further so I then booted into
recovery and wiped data and cache and re-flashed the ROM, but the result was
the same...
So I tried this a couple more times until suddenly the recovery-windows.bat file
would no longer put me into a recovery menu. I've tried everything I can think of
(using my original Goldcard etc) but nothing is fixing it- it's like I've lost root access.
How can I make my phone useable again? PLEASE HELP!!!
EDIT: In case it makes a difference I did delete what I thought were some old .zips from my SD shortly before this.
Install an official RUU, then re-root it? I guess some of the pro's got some better answers though
Download the ClockworkMod recovery, rename it in update.zip, put it in the sd, enter recovery, when you get the red triangle press vol up+power, select to flash update.zip.
Yep, flash an ruu, then re-root, only this time use unrEVOked and for future when flashing roms use the newer recoveries like clockworkmod or amonra.
The old recoverywindows.bat file leaves you at risk of the usb brick. You may well already have that now if you pulled the battery mid flash.
Thanks all. Haven't had a chance to do this yet but will. I did manage to flash an update.zip but it won't detect the sd. will try with clockwork mod.

Tried this but all I'm getting is cannot find directory. It retries about 12 times then
reboots. Just won't work.
When trying to flash an RUU it comes up with 'Error 170: USB connection error'.
This is weird because the device's bootloader recognises that there's a usb
connection. Any ideas?
EDIT: Seems like the phone in it's current state simply can't mount an sd card.
Gotta try some alternative methods for getting the RUU to run...

Had almost same problem.
I even couldn't flash update.zip
the problem was in SD. it was working OK in windows, but phone couldn't mount it. soved problem with reformating using SDFormater, when formated with clockworkmod.

I've two SDs and neither is working though so...
two things
the windows unlockerthing.bat was only supposed to be run one time, after that you could access the menu pressing vol up and power...
Why would you pull the batt on a Flash??
Pulled the battery because the device said flash completed but didn't do anything for over 5 mins. Won't make that mistake again. I've actually bricked the USB so this thread is a little pointless now
Oh and I did fix the SD issue

Cannot get in Recovery Screen

Ok, so I had rooted my phone and was attempting to install a custom ROM when I accidentally put the wrong PC36IMG.zip file to my sd card. When it went to HBOOT and asked to update I said yes. It did not update and this is what I get Radio V2- Fail, System- Fail, and WIMax- Fail. When I try to reboot it comes up to the HTC EVO 4G white screen and it stays there. Doesn't do anything. Tried to reload the corret PC36IMG file but I still get the same error. I've been reading through the forum and cannot find find anything that describes my problem. I've tried different solutions but my problem is that I cannot get tomy sdcard and the computer will not recognize my Evo as a drive. I also tried getting to the Recovery screen but it doesn't bring it up. When I select Recovery it goes to the white HTC EVO 4G and it stays there. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I really can't tell you. I have no idea. I'm new at this rooting thing so I don't know. How can I find out?
BTW sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
do you have rom manager on your phone? are you currently rooted?
I thought I was but I cannot do anything or get to any screen thoer than the HBOOT, BOOTLOADER, and HBOOT USB screens. I cannot access the sdcard. I'm pretty much stuck on that white screen. Tried ADB commands but it says no device, or device not recognized. What are my options? Go to Sprint and get a new one? Please help!!!
Try selecting HBOOT USB and push a recovery image through adb commands. Look at Toast's guide "How to Root" in the development forums. Since you can still get to the bootloader screen, you are not bricked. But since you do not have a custom recovery, you will have do a little adb.

Can you be a little more specific. I'm trying to do an adb push and it's telling me device not found. Am I doing somthing wrong?

Did you select hboot usb in the bootloader screen? This should allow communication with your PC. If not, you will have to pull the sdcard out of your phone and insert it into a card reader and then copy over a good PC36img.zip file. Then put it back into your phone and press vol dn + power to boot into the bootloader. It should then recognize the .zip file you just loaded and ask you for an update. Press vol up to select yes.
Then go to Amon_RA's thread in the dev forum and follow his instructions on installing his recovery.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I tried the card reader in my laptop and my pc and neither will recognize the card. I'm going to try my wife's netbook and see if it reads it.
Thanks
wont recognize it... sounds like a bad card or bad microsd to sd adapter
just follow what the others have stated
boot to bootloader, choose hboot usb
your computer will show you the screen like you inserted a sdcard and ask if you want to browse it
do it! and delete the bad file.
then while you are there format the drive in my computer and see what happens.
if nothing,, see my other recomendation.
preferred method ( ??? )
boot to bootloader screen
fastboot will be highlighted, hit the power button, you are now in fastboot mode
then use adb to flash the amon ra 1.8 recovery.
(you can also try "clear storage" but i have never done this so do not know if it only clears sdcard)
just look for that thread in the dev. section and folow the instructions to a T on how to install amon ra 1.8
i made a possible flawed assumption above.
amon ra 1.8 can be flashed using fastboot, i did not do mine that way and assumed it means boot into bootlaoder and choose fastboot, then flash using adb.
if that is incorrect, i apologize.
lastly have you tried pulling the battery.
Ok, here's the latest update. I used my wife's netbook and it read the card. I removed the bad PC36IMG and replaced with a good one. Rebooted to the bootloader menu, updated the PCC36IMG and everything is good.
Thanks to all that helped and recommended different slutions. I really appreciate it.

Can anyone provide me with instructions to restore my phone so I can try again?
Downloaded an RUU3.30 zip file... but don't know what to do now.
Trying to use adb I get device not found. Installed ALL the drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652
I appreciate the link... but don't know what you want me to do with it? I can't seem to find a relevant post. I am trying to use fastboot... but that doesn't do anything and ADB keeps saying device not found but fastboot seems to reboot my device.
Try renaming the RUU to "PC3IMG.zip" (without the quotes), put it on the root of your sdcard, and then power down the phone.
Then turn the phone on by holding down the Volume Down button while tapping the Power button. The phone should automatically search for and find the PC3IMG file and attempt to load it.
If the above does not work, you will need to download the official HTC RUU.exe and run it from a Windows Computer while the phone is in fastboot. If the first method does not work, the second one surely will. It will bring your phone back to unrooteed stock at which point you can try again.
Thanks for your reply and renaming idea... problem is fastboot is the only thing that seems to be able to communicate with the phone... so how do I put that on the sdcard?
I appreciate your time... but currently am unfamiliar with this part.
Take the SD card out of the phone, put it in the adapter then in your computer.
The sd card in the phone is micro micro SD are there adapters for it? Its like 1 CM long.
Yes, there are adapters.
I would use the 3.29 ruu not the 3.30 ruu, since 3.30 has the new hboot which will create more of a hassle if you want to re root. just my 2 cents.

OK, thanks. So I have to drive an hour out to Frys to get an adapter... is that my only option? Sigh... Thought their was a way with fastboot.exe to load or reflash an image? Or some other RUU exe... I don't see an RUU 3.30.651.2 exe anywhere online and I have looked for an hour.

What hBoot version do you have? I was under the impression only the eng one had fastboot.
Some kingston cards come with a micro SD to USB adapter, it's almost worth it to buy that card just for the adapter IMO. They work great
I bought a new evo 3.30.651.2 with new HBOOT 2.02 (annoying)... tried to follow the root instructions and now my phone is hosed. In the process of installing everything there is fastboot.exe / adb.exe and other utilities that were installed along with unrevoked-forever etc. But the tool seemed to fail near the end and ended up with the black HTC screen.
fastboot.exe will reboot my phone and accesses it... I was wondering if I can use it somehow to boot a new kernel or flash a stock image? Really need to get this rooted.

[q] boot loops.

I tried a new theme and phone was working fine. Woke up and now it is in bootloops. I cant access clockwork or adb tried going down to 2.1 but no luck.

and i am s off
please help.
EDIT. I HAVE ADB NOW BUT STILL WILL NOT WORK.
scratch that. i get device not found when trying to push pb31img
Have you tried flashing the RUU? Should be able to bring you back to stock and then you can re-root and go from there.
yes i did. 2.1 i tried 3 different downloads. correct me if im wrong but after the ruu is installed you should push volume up and reboot correct? i can get both recoveries, the triangle and exclaimation and clockwork but they will only stay on for maybe 5 seconds. any advice greatly appreciated. this thing is probably bricked anyway. might use it for target practice.
anyone????
Have you tried getting back to stock using this thread to start over?
If you can't ADB push, you're in recovery right? In Mounts and Storage, you can mount USB memory, and just drag and drop...
You can also pull the microSD card out, put it into a SD card adapter, then plug it into your computer. There is a USB adapter that will allow this as well, it shows up as a disk drive, you can drag and drop that way too.
i can not get into recovery. it only stays on for a few seconds. now i am down to =
radio 1.00.03.04.06
hboot 0.77.0000
i can not get hboot to recognize pb31img.zip files. i am re formating card and trying another one just in case. still nothing....
edit. my phone does not even go to the flash screen now to try to boot. i looked at the link you provided but i can not run adb nor do the links on that page work for downloads.
yup. now pb31img files wont load. i reformated to fat 32 tried 3 different card and nothing. the weird thing is my phone was working fine when i went to sleep.
edit. ok found fourth card formated now i can load pb31img files. now i just need the right ones. now i am back to
hboot 0.92.0000
radio 2.15.00.07.28
why does the stock 2.1 pb31img not work?? still causes boot loops at the splash screen. am i missing something? i still cannot use adb because i think the phone has rest and maybe dubugging is not on??? sdk does not recognize my phone.
Try finding the stock 2.2 image, that may work better.

i have been looking but i cant seem to find one that is a pb31img file. the ones i have found you have sdk installed and since my computer wont recognize it i cant do them. do you know of any links or have any ideas? can it be that my phones drive is bad?
thanks for the help to by the way. i really appreciate it.
winusbcolnstaller.dll on android winusb installation disk needed. that is the error i get now when i try to load drivers for sdk.
In the latest SDK, adb is not in it, FYI. Re-read the post again, the stock 2.2 RUU is there, follow the instructions under this heading: Part 2: 2.2 stock using OTA RUU. Just rename the file to PB31IMG.zip when you go to save it to your computer.
Here, I uploaded the 3 files that I saved in case ADB wasn't in the latest Android SDK, which they aren't: Click here.
Put these three in the SDK - Tools folder. I keep my SDK folder on the root of my C:, so just browse to your SDK - Tools folder and drop these in there in case you don't have them.
My suggestion: remove your current SDK, re-download the latest SDK, install it, then put the ADB files in there to get ADB working, download the 2.2 RUU from the previous link in post #5, rename it and put it onto your SD card, and let the magic happen
sorry i have been busy. i could not download the links on that page.. it keeps showing up as blank page. i ordered my new phone and will send the old one back and see what happens. thanks for all of your help and time.

HTC M9 Stuck in loop after trying to root

So I followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-root-install-twrp-htc-one-m9-t3061133
All was going fine, after finishing rooting and rebooting the phone went straight to download mode and at the bottom it says "File /mnt/media_rw\ext_sd\0PJAIMG.ZIP FILE NOT FOUND" and it is now stuck in the reboot loop with the screen only displaying the logo and the message "this build is for development purposes only...."
I then tried this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665 to recover from it, but the links needed were down.
So I went into the recovery mode and tried to restore, but found that there was nothing to restore from. Then I rebooted it and now I'm not able to go into the recovery mode "failed to boot to recovery mode". Also adb will no longer display my device after trying the command "adb devices".
Tried uninstalling and installing the drivers, but no luck.

Okay, so first of all you're using old threads to guide you and in the latter case, a guide build for another model phone. Assuming you are using an HTC One M9, your one-stop resource is the readme thread in this forum.
It sounds like you're going to need a RUU for your device. Before you ask ANYTHING about that, read the readme thread. It answers most every common question (and many uncommon ones), provides guides, and has links.
Once you've read the thread, if you have questions, post them here. We're absolutely happy to help - the readme thread ensures that we all start from the same level of understanding.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I have checked out the thread and I'm trying to follow the instructions in the RUU section, however I'm bit stuck. The third step requires me to copy the file into the SD Card, but I unfortunately have no direct access to that sd card with my PC. And like I said I cannot really use my phone to copy that file, nor can I use adb to copy it, since it doesn't detect my phone, although fastboot does.
You will need a pc to recover your phone in any circumstances. No pc = no recovered phone.

Not quite sure what you mean by pc, or if I explained it poorly. I do have a computer, but my computer does not have slots for sd cards, hence why I can't put any files on there, and adb won't detect my phone any more.
@edit: I think I know why I goofed up, the sd card I was using is 2GB only, and so I can't even use the RUU provided in the link above, since it is 2.2GB. I will shortly get a new sd card and see how it goes from there. Although if there is a way of doing this without the sd card and just my PC, I'm happy to hear it.

There is no easier way to move forward than using a computer (PC, not a Mac). Yes, you could use another device to copy the RUU file to a SD card, but the guides are written with a computer in mind.
Like I said I DO have a PC, it's what I'm using to view and write this thread. My question is, is there a way to execute the RUU file from the PC to the Phone via the usb cable? Since my SD card is too small for that file. The guide says that it is theoretically possible that do it through HTC_fastboot, however it warns that there have been to many problems, so I don't want to risk it, since my phone also has the security features on.

Yes it's possible. The readme thread doesn't explore how because there are so many different ways a PC-to-phone flash can fail, where as the SD card method is dead simple.
You need a pc to transfer any updates or files to internal memory.
As you said, your memory card is too small for that file. Your other choices are to flash from pc, copy files from pc to phone, copy files from internet to phone.
If the phone doesn't boot to os then your only option is adb. You need a pc to use adb. You will need to access the phones recovery for adb too.
You can get another memory card but if your phone wont boot to os you'll need a pc for adb as your pc doesn't have sd slots.
So basically, you need a pc unless you know some voodoo or something to magic the file onto the phone..
Beamed in by telepathy.
I got a new sd card, 16gb. I also put the file on it using adb commands "adb push C:\adb\0PJAIMG.zip /sdcard" and using the rather broken recovery mode of TWRP I was able to confirm that the file is on there. However, step 5 says that I should be asked if I want to flash the file after booting to download mode, well... That is not happening
Tried installing it via TWRP recovery, however it says that the ZIP file is corrupted somehow.
So I just redownloaded the RUU file, it still says it is corrupted. Any clues as to how to fix it?
Nevermind, fixed it by using another phone to format the sd card and download the file straight to the sd card, then I could follow the instructions without a problem.
I however have one more question, how can I root my phone without going through all this sh** again?

The readme thread has a section on rooting. Be sure you pay attention to the guide's directions about versions - some versions of SuperSU are incompatible with the M9 and certain versions of TWRP correspond to your firmware version.
Congratulations on getting your phone functioning. Always nice to hear a success story.
If you have marshmallow 6.0 and a gsm phone just:
1, unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com.
2, Flash twrp and mount as "read only" (seems to be version dependent, i used 2.9.0.1 for 6.0 and have no issues to date).
3, make a backup of everything except data (or just system, up to you), you WILL need it one day so make a copy and store it somewhere very, very safe as it is your only fallback.
4, in twrp mount system as read/write and flash chainfires supersu.zip (like twrp, it seems to be version dependent. I used supersu 2.65 for 6.0 and have no issues to date). (use systemless root if asked, not sure if an actual system root is any good for this phone?).
5, buy s-off via sunshine app for $25. This is essential if you want a reasonable chance of recovery should anything go drastically wrong later on. Being able to flash unsigned stuff gives an extra option towards recovery.
It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it, I was panicking too when I did mine. Rightly so, these things brick too easy!. I implore you to cross reference the steps against other material from other xda members just incase I missed something by accident. The last thing you need to do is bugger it up now but I'm confident I have it pretty damn close.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I decided to flash a different ROM; Android HD revolution. Everything went fine and everything works fine.
However, I do have one more question. Whenever I go into the download mode, I still get this message in yellow at the bottom of the screen "File /mnt/media_rw\ext_sd\0PJAIMG.ZIP FILE NOT FOUND", not sure if it's a left over from previous failures or if I'm missing something.
