[q] boot loops. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried a new theme and phone was working fine. Woke up and now it is in bootloops. I cant access clockwork or adb tried going down to 2.1 but no luck.
Hboot 0.92.0000
radio 2.15.00.07.28
and i am s off
please help.
EDIT. I HAVE ADB NOW BUT STILL WILL NOT WORK.
scratch that. i get device not found when trying to push pb31img

Have you tried flashing the RUU? Should be able to bring you back to stock and then you can re-root and go from there.

yes i did. 2.1 i tried 3 different downloads. correct me if im wrong but after the ruu is installed you should push volume up and reboot correct? i can get both recoveries, the triangle and exclaimation and clockwork but they will only stay on for maybe 5 seconds. any advice greatly appreciated. this thing is probably bricked anyway. might use it for target practice.

anyone????

Have you tried getting back to stock using this thread to start over?
If you can't ADB push, you're in recovery right? In Mounts and Storage, you can mount USB memory, and just drag and drop...
You can also pull the microSD card out, put it into a SD card adapter, then plug it into your computer. There is a USB adapter that will allow this as well, it shows up as a disk drive, you can drag and drop that way too.

i can not get into recovery. it only stays on for a few seconds. now i am down to =
radio 1.00.03.04.06
hboot 0.77.0000
i can not get hboot to recognize pb31img.zip files. i am re formating card and trying another one just in case. still nothing....
edit. my phone does not even go to the flash screen now to try to boot. i looked at the link you provided but i can not run adb nor do the links on that page work for downloads.

yup. now pb31img files wont load. i reformated to fat 32 tried 3 different card and nothing. the weird thing is my phone was working fine when i went to sleep.
edit. ok found fourth card formated now i can load pb31img files. now i just need the right ones. now i am back to
hboot 0.92.0000
radio 2.15.00.07.28

why does the stock 2.1 pb31img not work?? still causes boot loops at the splash screen. am i missing something? i still cannot use adb because i think the phone has rest and maybe dubugging is not on??? sdk does not recognize my phone.

Try finding the stock 2.2 image, that may work better.

i have been looking but i cant seem to find one that is a pb31img file. the ones i have found you have sdk installed and since my computer wont recognize it i cant do them. do you know of any links or have any ideas? can it be that my phones drive is bad?
thanks for the help to by the way. i really appreciate it.
winusbcolnstaller.dll on android winusb installation disk needed. that is the error i get now when i try to load drivers for sdk.

In the latest SDK, adb is not in it, FYI. Re-read the post again, the stock 2.2 RUU is there, follow the instructions under this heading: Part 2: 2.2 stock using OTA RUU. Just rename the file to PB31IMG.zip when you go to save it to your computer.
Here, I uploaded the 3 files that I saved in case ADB wasn't in the latest Android SDK, which they aren't: Click here.
Put these three in the SDK - Tools folder. I keep my SDK folder on the root of my C:, so just browse to your SDK - Tools folder and drop these in there in case you don't have them.
My suggestion: remove your current SDK, re-download the latest SDK, install it, then put the ADB files in there to get ADB working, download the 2.2 RUU from the previous link in post #5, rename it and put it onto your SD card, and let the magic happen

sorry i have been busy. i could not download the links on that page.. it keeps showing up as blank page. i ordered my new phone and will send the old one back and see what happens. thanks for all of your help and time.

Cannot get in Recovery Screen

Ok, so I had rooted my phone and was attempting to install a custom ROM when I accidentally put the wrong PC36IMG.zip file to my sd card. When it went to HBOOT and asked to update I said yes. It did not update and this is what I get Radio V2- Fail, System- Fail, and WIMax- Fail. When I try to reboot it comes up to the HTC EVO 4G white screen and it stays there. Doesn't do anything. Tried to reload the corret PC36IMG file but I still get the same error. I've been reading through the forum and cannot find find anything that describes my problem. I've tried different solutions but my problem is that I cannot get tomy sdcard and the computer will not recognize my Evo as a drive. I also tried getting to the Recovery screen but it doesn't bring it up. When I select Recovery it goes to the white HTC EVO 4G and it stays there. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I really can't tell you. I have no idea. I'm new at this rooting thing so I don't know. How can I find out?
BTW sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
do you have rom manager on your phone? are you currently rooted?
I thought I was but I cannot do anything or get to any screen thoer than the HBOOT, BOOTLOADER, and HBOOT USB screens. I cannot access the sdcard. I'm pretty much stuck on that white screen. Tried ADB commands but it says no device, or device not recognized. What are my options? Go to Sprint and get a new one? Please help!!!
Try selecting HBOOT USB and push a recovery image through adb commands. Look at Toast's guide "How to Root" in the development forums. Since you can still get to the bootloader screen, you are not bricked. But since you do not have a custom recovery, you will have do a little adb.

Can you be a little more specific. I'm trying to do an adb push and it's telling me device not found. Am I doing somthing wrong?

Did you select hboot usb in the bootloader screen? This should allow communication with your PC. If not, you will have to pull the sdcard out of your phone and insert it into a card reader and then copy over a good PC36img.zip file. Then put it back into your phone and press vol dn + power to boot into the bootloader. It should then recognize the .zip file you just loaded and ask you for an update. Press vol up to select yes.
Then go to Amon_RA's thread in the dev forum and follow his instructions on installing his recovery.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I tried the card reader in my laptop and my pc and neither will recognize the card. I'm going to try my wife's netbook and see if it reads it.
Thanks
wont recognize it... sounds like a bad card or bad microsd to sd adapter
just follow what the others have stated
boot to bootloader, choose hboot usb
your computer will show you the screen like you inserted a sdcard and ask if you want to browse it
do it! and delete the bad file.
then while you are there format the drive in my computer and see what happens.
if nothing,, see my other recomendation.
preferred method ( ??? )
boot to bootloader screen
fastboot will be highlighted, hit the power button, you are now in fastboot mode
then use adb to flash the amon ra 1.8 recovery.
(you can also try "clear storage" but i have never done this so do not know if it only clears sdcard)
just look for that thread in the dev. section and folow the instructions to a T on how to install amon ra 1.8
i made a possible flawed assumption above.
amon ra 1.8 can be flashed using fastboot, i did not do mine that way and assumed it means boot into bootlaoder and choose fastboot, then flash using adb.
if that is incorrect, i apologize.
lastly have you tried pulling the battery.
Ok, here's the latest update. I used my wife's netbook and it read the card. I removed the bad PC36IMG and replaced with a good one. Rebooted to the bootloader menu, updated the PCC36IMG and everything is good.
Thanks to all that helped and recommended different slutions. I really appreciate it.

Can anyone provide me with instructions to restore my phone so I can try again?
Downloaded an RUU3.30 zip file... but don't know what to do now.
Trying to use adb I get device not found. Installed ALL the drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652
I appreciate the link... but don't know what you want me to do with it? I can't seem to find a relevant post. I am trying to use fastboot... but that doesn't do anything and ADB keeps saying device not found but fastboot seems to reboot my device.
Try renaming the RUU to "PC3IMG.zip" (without the quotes), put it on the root of your sdcard, and then power down the phone.
Then turn the phone on by holding down the Volume Down button while tapping the Power button. The phone should automatically search for and find the PC3IMG file and attempt to load it.
If the above does not work, you will need to download the official HTC RUU.exe and run it from a Windows Computer while the phone is in fastboot. If the first method does not work, the second one surely will. It will bring your phone back to unrooteed stock at which point you can try again.
Thanks for your reply and renaming idea... problem is fastboot is the only thing that seems to be able to communicate with the phone... so how do I put that on the sdcard?
I appreciate your time... but currently am unfamiliar with this part.
Take the SD card out of the phone, put it in the adapter then in your computer.
The sd card in the phone is micro micro SD are there adapters for it? Its like 1 CM long.
Yes, there are adapters.
I would use the 3.29 ruu not the 3.30 ruu, since 3.30 has the new hboot which will create more of a hassle if you want to re root. just my 2 cents.

OK, thanks. So I have to drive an hour out to Frys to get an adapter... is that my only option? Sigh... Thought their was a way with fastboot.exe to load or reflash an image? Or some other RUU exe... I don't see an RUU 3.30.651.2 exe anywhere online and I have looked for an hour.

What hBoot version do you have? I was under the impression only the eng one had fastboot.
Some kingston cards come with a micro SD to USB adapter, it's almost worth it to buy that card just for the adapter IMO. They work great
I bought a new evo 3.30.651.2 with new HBOOT 2.02 (annoying)... tried to follow the root instructions and now my phone is hosed. In the process of installing everything there is fastboot.exe / adb.exe and other utilities that were installed along with unrevoked-forever etc. But the tool seemed to fail near the end and ended up with the black HTC screen.
fastboot.exe will reboot my phone and accesses it... I was wondering if I can use it somehow to boot a new kernel or flash a stock image? Really need to get this rooted.

[Q] HTC Desire HD stuck in hboot, no recovery

First off, I know there are a lot of posts with this problem. Mine seems to be slightly different or I'm just stupid. (Probably the latter) Anyway, Desire HD stuck at hboot. S-OFF, cant get into recover either. SD card is blank. Here is what it says at the screen.
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
and a date.
Also, I usually pay people to root my phone but I cant do it this time around. I updated the ROM and now this. Please help! I can pay you if you can figure it out.
Thank you so much
Are there no options or text below the date? It should say "HBOOT" or "FASTBOOT" and present a small menu of coloured text options.
Also, what ROM did you update before this happened?
It would be good to know exactly what steps led to your problem before suggesting how to fix this. Try to give as much detail as you can.
It says Hboot. and yes, has the options below. The last update was for Cyanogen 7.0 but didnt like it. I went to go back and just recover the back up of what I had because I liked what was on there and yeah, didnt work out so well. Got to love your friends. lol
I have tried bortaks troubleshooting guide and flash a new recovery using android flasher but that doesnt seem to be working either. When I go to recovery, its just sticks me to the splash screen and wont do nothing.
Firstly, as long as you have a working bootloader, your phone isn't bricked and can be recovered.
Well it seems you are Radio S-Off (Ship S-Off), but you also need Eng S-Off to flash a recovery from the command line using fastboot.exe. I'm pretty sure danward's Android Flasher uses fastboot, so I'm not surprised it didn't work.
What to do next depends on whether you can get access to your sdcard from your PC. If you can - with a card reader in the PC, or another phone to put the card in and connect via USB - then go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Download the stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip ROM from Section 1 and put it on the root of your SD card. Then put the card back in your DHD, and reboot into the bootloader.
It should recognise the PD98IMG.zip file and ask if you want to flash it, press Volume Up to confirm. This will put the stock 1.32.405.6 HTC ROM on your phone - this is an early shipped HTC firmware and it's the easiest version to root.
Edit: Note this file and the RUU below are for a Desire HD, and I don't think they will work on an Inspire - see later in the thread for some links to Inspire files.
Once it's flashed, it will replace everything - ROM, Recovery, radio - with the stock versions so you'll need to use the hack kit again, but you should still have Radio S-Off. Also remove the PD98IMG.zip file from your SD card when done, otherwise each time you go into the bootloader it will ask if you want to flash it.
If for any reason you can't get the PD98IMG.zip onto your SD card, you could try running an RUU (Rom Update Utility), this is the official HTC firmware in an EXE file you run from your PC. Plug your phone in via the USB cable and run the RUU file. You can find them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19101263#post19101263
The 1.32 version isn't there, so I would go for the next oldest WWE version (WWE = world wide edition, i.e. not carrier-branded)
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
If that runs, it will do the same as the PD98IMG.zip, i.e. put your phone back to stock HTC firmware, but once again you will retain Radio S-Off.
I don't know much about the Ace Hack Kit as I rooted my phone before it came out, but I'm pretty sure that it will root either of those two versions of the stock firmware just fine. Good luck!
I downloaded it 3 times from 2 different sources, put it on my sd card, still nothing. Am I doing anything wrong?
Is you USB cable still connected? If it is, the bootloader will go into FASTBOOT mode, and you need to be in HBOOT mode. What does it say under the date, fastboot or hboot?
If it says fastboot, just pull the USB cable out and reboot the phone.
Otherwise I'm not sure why it's not working.
I tried both ways. hboot and fast boot. All you need to do is start the phone up on h boot right? It runs through those codes looking for it and says not found on all 4 of them.

This is probably a stupid question, but it is definitely a Desire HD, right?
What file names does it say it's looking for when it runs through the codes, does it definitely say PD98DIAG and PD98IMG?
Maybe try the RUU method instead?
Inspire from ATT, same thing right? Its says
sd checking....
loading....[PD98DIAG.zip]
No Image
Loading....[PD98DIAG.nbh]
No Image or Wrong Image
Loading....[PD98img.zip]
No Image
Loading......[PD98img.nbh]
No Image or wrong image.
I would try the other method but I cant find android 1.0 usb driver that it apparently needs. It will still flash though for some reason. What do you think?
The file is definitely called PD98IMG.zip and is on the root of your sd card?
Edit: Any drivers should be installed when you install HTC Sync on your PC, if you haven't done this already get it here:
http://www.htc.com/www/help/
PD98IMG is the file name and its a compressed file so that would make .zip. correct? I have nothing else on the sd card, just that.
Hmm, do you know how to turn on filename extensions in Windows?
For Win7, go to My Computer, Organize menu, then Folder & Search Options. Click on to the View tab and un-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".
Then check the filename again and make sure it ends .zip, and not .rar or something else. Some browsers can change the file name when downloading zip files.
Weird, though. I've just tried a PD98IMG.zip on my phone to check my instructions and it should be okay. I'm not so familiar with the Inspire, but if it's looking for a PD98IMG.zip you should be fine. I think the main difference is in sound files, but the ROMs are otherwise the same.
I checked it. Yes, it is named exactly that. I wonder why it wont run?
I think it's because it's an Inspire. Inside the PD98IMG.zip is a file called android-info.txt, and the first line of that is
Code:
modelid: PD9810000
The model ID for the Inspire is (I think) PD9812000. So it's not recognising the zip as valid.
You'll need a PD98IMG.zip specifically for an Inspire. Maybe check the Inspire forums? Although the phones are very similar they're not 100% the same, and folks there might know which file you need, or where to find the right RUU. Sorry, I didn't realise the PD98IMG file would need to be different.
You might just be able to replace the android-info.txt file inside the zip with one from an Inspire, not sure if that would work though.
Edit: Also, for the RUU you probably need the US-specific file, which is RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.14
Edit2: Found this PD98IMG.zip which is for an Inspire, it's the same 1.80.502.3 version mentioned above.
http://www.multiupload.com/JELMZNSKDF
I think I found the file for the Inspire. I'm going to try that next. As far as that last post, That is way over my head, lol.
Good luck! The file linked above at the multiupload address is definitely an Inspire version, so try that if the one you found doesn't work. I'm off now but will check this thread again in the morning just in case.
Thank you so much for your help. I'll post and tell you what happened
Happened to me once, if push comes to shove down load stock Rom from dev section. It is an .exe file that will restore your DHD back to stock from h-boot u will have to root your phone again though ! Good luck

Stuck After Trying to Return to Stock HTC 10

Hey everyone,
this is my first forum post on the xda website so I'll try to create an effective post as best I can.
Objective: Attempting to return to out-of-the-box stock android after using a custom ROM, LineageOS. I mainly want to return it to a condition where I would be able to hand it back to the carrier. It's also much more convenient for me to use the phone in stock. From my understanding, this is possible without much difficulty.
Issue: After many days of searching forums and following guides specific to the phone's model, I've put myself in a confusing position. The phone's current state is as follows: Installed OS[None], Bootloader[Relocked], S-ON[True], Boot to Recovery[Unsuccessful], SIM Card[None]. I'm unable to detect the phone on my computer(running Windows 10), and therefore can't utilize adb commands.
If anyone has any advice or guidance I would really appreciate it; and if you need me to provide any more information I would be happy to. I'll also try to respond as quickly as I can. Thanks!

I only have access to the CID(TMOBO10) and software version(2.51.531.32).
I've attempted to use an RUU, although after many attempts I couldn't get past the application setup screen. After the progress bar finished installing the RUU, it would close and never prompt me for anything else. I tried it multiple times.
I don't have a SIM/SD to use, unfortunately.
TWRP was installed as my Recovery, although trying to access it returns a boot-loop.
In terms of using adb, my phone will charge if plugged into the computer but it's not being recognized for file transfers.
I'm gathering that the only option left is to use something like a SIM card as you mentioned?

You could troubleshoot your RUU issue, it should work if you have a windows computer. Try googling it. Unfortunately I can't help you much there, it's always worked fine on my machine.
Else, yea, the SD card method also works well. Find an ruu zip version first before trying to find an SD card. The ruu.exe you tried using won't work in this method.
Hi.
PC method
As @Tarima has mentioned the RUU is not running because of a Windows/PC issue.
Your best option is to try and run it in another computer or a friend's computer.
You can put your phone to download mode (volume down+power)
And run RUU again. Here is a link just to make sure you have the correct RUU. It is for your CID and its 2.51.531.32
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569947237
For microSD card method
Use a friend's microSD card. It will need to be formatted to FAT32. So backup the microSD card data. Hehe!
To create an installable zip for that RUU, you again need a good computer.
Here is how you can get the installable zip from the RUU since it is encrypted you just cant extract it.
Download this decryption tool from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/tool-universal-htc-ruu-rom-decryption-t3382928
Choose 32bit or 64bit as this is vital to its working. Also make sure dotnet framework 3.5 is installed on your machine or else this tool will not run.
Once decryption tool is ready to run, just drag and drop the RUU on top of HTC_Decrypt_Tool.exe
It will give you some options. From these say yes (Y) to get new keyfiles AND to create installable sdcard zip file. you will know it when you see.
All other options such as uploading new keyfiles to community and getting boot.img and system.img is optional.
Once you get the zip rename it to 2PS6IMG.zip if it already isnt renamed.
Transfer to the root of your microSD card (dont put in any folders, just put it direcly on microsdcard)
Put microSD card into the your htc 10.
Enter download mode (volume down+power)
Download mode should detect the zip file. Press volume up to install.
If you need anymore help please post back again

Thanks for the helpful information. I'll try everything and give feedback regarding how it goes.

HTC 10 - Wiped system - any clever way to re-install stock image?

I hope this is the correct forum to post this...
I have a rooted HTC 10 with TWRP and Magisk.
Things were working up to a point: I was trying to resolve an SD card (microSD) access issue, and carelessly wiped "system" on the phone. I also stupidly didn't get a backup of the system via TWRP before I started mucking around.
When plug in the phone to my laptop via USB, it is still recognized where the internal and SD storage comes up in Windows Explorer, but the phone will not boot. It can boot into TWRP and all of that seems to work fine.
I tried running RUU (.exe) for the stock image from HTC on my Windows 10 laptop (after loading a bunch of Visual C++ redistributables), but it doesn't connect to the phone. I tried leaving the phone in "download mode" and "recovery mode" and just booting the phone and leaving it at the point where just the red text is shown, but the RUU tool would not connect in any case.
I tried to use the "ROM.zip" file, which is extracted when running the RUU (.exe) on Windows, by copying that file to the phone but that didn't work (in TWRP). As a matter of fact, TWRP shows no files when selecting "Install", either ".zip" or ".exe". When using the TWRP file explorer, it sees everything.
I am am very inexperienced with the phone OS and manipulation and just got to root previously via a utility (with some help).
I am pretty sure I have all the correct stuff loaded on this laptop, since I used this laptop to root this phone in the first place. Again, it was seemingly working fine except for the SD card (writing) issue I was trying to resolve.
I am hoping that there is some clever way to either recover the "system" partition data (to stock or whatever) or re-load the stock firmware (which I have from HTC, though it's probably missing some OTA update I would guess). I've read a lot but many articles either assume lots of phone hacking experience or they are missing pieces (because the posters already know a lot): I've exhausted all the options I could come up with.
Thanks for any help!

When my HTC is in download mode, it doesn't display the CID. I was going to try to copy system from a stock image elsewhere on this site, but there are several to choose from and I didn't want to do more damage.

Download the 3.16.617 ruu.zip from here, rename the file to 2PS6IMG.zip and copy it to your SDCARD, boot to download mode and flash it.

Thanks! I will give that a shot today and update this thread.

So, the "flash it" part is where noobs like me are not sure what to do. So I have the phone in "download" and the image is on the microSD. I assume "flash it" means to either run adb or fastboot, and either indicates that the device is not found. I thought this was likely due to me wiping the system partition on the phone, not sure if it's using the recovery or the phone itself.
So, on the flash, I have downloaded stock ROMs, like from HTC, but they are all ".exe" files. I finally found a ".zip" that is supposedly stock. I renamed it as suggested and put in on the microSD, and then I used TWRP in recovery to "Install", but it says "Invalid zip file format!".
FYI, I do not have "S-OFF" and the original file I found was named "2PS6IMG_PERFUME_WL_O80_SENSE90GP_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_3.16.617.2.zip" which I renamed to "2PS6IMG.zip".

When you renamed the file properly download mode will automatically confirm to flash the file, no need to do anything other than press volume button and power button to confirm the flash, the yellow text in the bottom is what you need to follow. No need for adb or anything difficult otherwise i would have mentioned it.
Check the file, make sure you don't hide file extensions in windows because when it's named 2PS6IMG.zip.zip it doesn't work.
And put the file on the external sdcard, not internal storage. That doesn't work either. Format the sdcard in twrp if you have to first.
Don't do anything else than what i write, it doesn't work like that. Don't fiddle around with adb or fastboot, you can't flash it in recovery because the zip is an encrypted HTC ruu and NOT a custom rom which are meant to be flashed with a custom recovery.
Make sure to place the file in the *root* of the external sdcard.

I believe I did everything as you explained. I work with computers and I have a basic and general understanding of this process: I renamed the only ZIP that I could find online, I put it on the microSD, renamed it to "2PS6IMG.zip", I used "Install" from the recovery, then got the zip error.
From you follow-up reply, I realize that you meant for me to put the file 2PS6IMG.zip into the "root" of the microSD (top level of the file structure), whereas I had it in a sub-directory, and then use "download" on the bootloader. So, now I "get" how the "download" option works! I thought that had something to do with downloading from a laptop or computer via adb, but it's obviously "downloading" the ROM from the external microSD card.
So, NOW it is reflashing!!
I know these kinds of noob issues lead to eye-rolling, so thanks for the patient help!
Now I am back to the stock starting point, and I can try a different rooting option to get back to fixing the external SD writing permissions issue I was trying to resolve in the first place!

Just wanted to point out that the file must be placed in the root. Not in a subdirectory.
That was not stated anywhere. That could have been the reason it didn't work for the OP.

I never mentioned to put it in a folder anywhere. I write like this so the chance on errors are minimal. It's following to the letter where it goes wrong. Don't try to push it all to hard, read easy and patiently then it will be very simple.
Good thing to know it worked. Back to start.
Cheers

I never said to place it in a subfolder. It's the reading where it goes wrong. Following instructions can be difficult ....I know.
Same as going to recovery and try to flash it, flash it via adb or fastboot.....never mentioned that either. It's the haste and maybe a bit of despair that is kicking in but i do this all for a reason.
Cheers.

So first off, I clicked the "Thanks" button on your original reply.
So I don't seem like a total moron, your original reply just said to copy the file to the SD card: I already had a folder structure on that card and so I moved the file to where I wanted to use it, not realizing at the time how "download" worked and that the "download" would look only in the *root* of the SD card. So, that's why I stated my understanding of what you meant on my follow-up reply. Had I started with a blank SD card, I would have naturally just copied it and it would have been in the root.
Thanks again for the help!
I know this thread is a bit old, but I am in a similar situation. I wish to restore my unlocked HTC 10 to oreo stock. I have tried the tried the RUU (for NA) as listed but when the install is completed I do not have any radio capability. Do I need to completely wipe the internal memory before flashing the RUU? I noticed when I tried my backup restoral using TWRP I ended with with no radio as well. Please advise.
