News about a new Google Maps version ? - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hello,
Google Maps is a great end very great apps for our HD2.
The latest version appear to be the 4.1.1.
I would like to know if anyone have some news about a new build for Windows Mobile ?
Thanks a lot,
regards,
Nixeus

would be nice to see a new release, but since it's almost been 10 months since the last release...

Yes I am waiting for the new release since long. it was 4.1.1 last I used..

I think google has already abandoned WM 6. They are concentrating in Android development, new google map version only available on Android.

Yeah I also doubt that there will be any new versions of google maps for WM 6. First and foremost google has been focusing on the android platform since it's release which is kind of logic because android is a google product. What's more almost every renown developer has abandoned WM6 in favor of the other operation systems for smartphones so I don't think google is an exception. Sad but it seems to be like this.

WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys

With respect Sleuth, how do you know that is MS plan?
So whats the point of Windows Update tool then ?
It just doesn`t make sense.. They did it for fun ? Just to take storage space ?
MS update < XDA new ROM update!!
Why bother??
MS update was so manufactures didn't have to release new roms, just updates...
but as Penske MB says
MS update < XDA new ROM update!!

not at the moment no... but the functionality is there for future updates... but as most ROM cooks use tadzio's tools which removes the buffers around files in the IMGFS using Windows Update could in fact turn your device into a brick if updates were pushed out...

Pretty common sense.
Microsoft has made it abundantly clear on more then 1 front that they have zero interest in maintaining Windows Mobile and only release OS updates to keep people off the other platform devices.
MS doesn't care about updating phones and doesn't care about making activesync function correctly.
Mark my words... Windows updates on these devices will ALWAYS be useless.

if they didnt care then they wouldnt have developed the functionality in the first place and left the updating to the carriers... Windows Update was/is designed to update Core OS and M$ Products only...

Good answer. I also wonder how certain people come to their "firm" opinions or even "knowledge" about what MS "plans" and his in mind.
My hard facts come from M$ at MEDC 2007. When asked whether they planned on delivering Mobile Office 2K7 via Windows update I was told that the windows update mechanism itself was "only for critical security related patches"...
We'll need windows update when the first virus hits I suppose...
Hello ,Bchau,
I was hoping you could tell me where you dowloaded the new buttonflo rom I also have a Jasjam and with Telstra Next g and at present running Black 3.1

Windows Update will be used very soon to distribute an updated version of IE to WM6 users. And for those of you that have your doubt... let's just say I know someone who's testing its functionality now.

But it will never happen.. How long has the Hermes been out for, and have you EVER seen ANY update?
Thats what I thought..
Theres more "updates" on this forum than u would ever need through this useless tool anyway
very true!!! wont see a windows update on the hermes or any device that has it.....
ive had the blackjack since day 1 and there was the BJ II and the Epix and still didnt see any updates whatsoever....so after 2 generations of the blackjack (i count the epix as one ahahah) i dont think they are ever going to release one for it.
So for the hermes im pretty sure its not going to happen.
Like they said XDA developers is your update tool (if you can call it that) because the winmo builds (beta) are constantly updated here through various rom releases.....

[Q]TomTom version

Hi,
Recently I've read a few posts online about different versions of tomtom. My question is what is the main difference between the most current version released which is aparently 6.035 and the version I have on my phone...6.010?
Does anybody know? Are there more options in the 6.035 version or is it just a random release to fix bugs people have had cause really.. I havnt had any bugs what so ever with my version and dont plan on upgrading unless I have to... or unless this other version has something that mine doesnt.
Thanks in Advance!
Hi,
tomtom never released this version. youre using stolen software!
I'm running Tomtom 6.01. That is a legal version. I'm not aware of the legality of 6.035 so I wouldn't know if its a hack or not. I was just wondering if it was any different then my version that's all
My experience with TomTom on various Windows Mobile devices is that version 6.00 is somehow slow and bugged on certain hardware, and that's why 6.010 exists. But it had a short life and was soon upgraded as well.
Most common on the field are 6.020 and 6.030, which are basically the same good piece of software. 6.030 is just 6.020 with some compatibility enhancements for certain devices (see TomTom site for details).
Most recent version I know of is 6.032 (another compatibility update based on 6.020). Therefore if you have 6.020 there's no real need to upgrade. 6.035, if not a fake, is likely a leaked build and I'd stay away from that.
so basically... Dont upgrade unless I am having issues... which I am not. 6.010 seems to be working fine so if there arent any additional features added why switch right?
And where can I download those official releases ?
I've recently bought their 50% discounted maps, after the lady on the phone support line (TomTom) told me it would come with software needed to use it. Later, I understood she gave me false information.
I tried downloading one from the internet (I'm afraid it's a hacked version), and didn't need any piracy stuff, as the codes that came with my map perfectly work to legally activate and use the software
But I'd like to donwload it from a trustful source, without needing to buy a whole navigator 6 package with the non discounted map (which I already have)... :s
help!
Thanks
anyone...?
Anyone know when next release will come??
DL-Link
Hi,
anyone can legally download 6.030 from www.tomtom.com/updates
Bye
Andi
i m running 6.032 it starts up faster and caculates routes faster than 6.030
What about new tomtom's version??
Will it ever come??

Replace windows mobile on Vogue

I'm not sure how much discussion has gone on about this subject but I had an odd question.
With all of this development going on with Linux/Android for the vogue, I was wondering if it will be possible in the future to create an actual ROM for our vogues that will replace Windows Mobile as the OS. NFSFan's great roms attempt (very successfully) to fix the problems with WinMo, and the Android port is a separate program that runs off the storage card. I'm curious if one day it'll be possible to completely remove windows mobile in favor of say android or whatever else gets developed for the vogue, and if so will it be possible to flash back to windows mobile afterward?
Just some thoughts and questions.
Android Was Sucessfully Ported To The Vouge
I Have Good News And Bad News For You
The Good News:
Google Android Lunix Was successfully ported to the HTC Vogue By An Australian Computer Scientist. More info can be found here.
The Bad News:
Windows Mobile 6.5 and WM 7 Seem to ve so verry pomrising for PPC users that many are not going to want to switch to a Linux based OS at this time. in fact NFSFAN made the latest leaked version of windows mobile 6.5 availble to the HTC Vouge Here. Anoother Reason A Full-On Linux Rom May Not Cme Out Is That may disros of Linux including mobile distros (this includes android) are produced for free under the terms of the GNU general Public License. That says that usres are "Entitled and encouraged to copy modify and redistribute" the content. Witch Means Microsoft Wloud Not make their Money.
I admit it is a good idea for Linux roms as an alternative for those who dont't like their winMo devices. But then again android and symbian Linux only makes up less than 5% of the smart-phone market at the present time

I disagree completely - Android will be a major player and a native ROM would be awesome. Android is so much more than Symbian that its disgraceful putting them together in the same sentence. It hasn't been around very long yet but give it another year or two and I predict it will not be very far behind WinMo in market share.
Also, when you say another reason a full rom won't come out is because MS won't make their money - the devices have very little to do with MS; HTC, Samsung, HP etc all make PDA's which happen to run WinMo but now that there is a cheaper (free) alternative to WinMo I'm sure they will all have at least one device running it.
I really hope someone (NFSFAN ) puts out a native Android ROM for the Vogue.
BTW the link you posted is for the storage card install and not a native android install.

Maybe this could be interesting too.

may I dare to say that I tried android on the vogue but I still like winmo better?
I am sorry guys.

How dare you! I'm a WinMo 6.5 fan myself - really liking this version. Just waiting for Android to support all of the Vogue hardware to try it out (ie GPS).

[Q] Windows Phone 7.5 - Will anyone be attempting to load onto HD2??

Hi all,
this is just a little discussion i want to start about the new update microsoft will soon be releasing - 7.5 or what ever it becomes...
I love my HD2 - WP7 AND Android - UNBEATABLE... I really dont want to have to buy a new phone that is not as good...
I think the work that courtilla and DFT team have done is absolutly remarkable!
BUT -
Do you recon / think anyone will be developing ways of loading windows phone '7.5' on to the HD2 in the future??? or is wp7 the death and grail of the HD2???
Ill donate / pay to anyone who will port a fully working 7.5 OS onto the HD2 (and provide a installer like the current DFT one) - ide also be up for testing...
Thanks
I bet DFT will be working on it - they have access to a lot of stuff.
And if not DFT, I will be working on toolset for cooking WP7 ROMs (unless DFT releases them meanwhile). I already started 2 months ago, but haven't ever finished them.
WP7.5 will be a whole new OS release, not an update to the current revision. Going from WP7 to Mango will be like Upgrading form Windows Vista to 7.
So I don't think it will be as easy as it was for the original release, especially since there was a test ROM from the HD2 floating around already (the HD7 is basically the same and HTC/Microsoft used the HD2 as a dev phone for a bit).
