Hello everyone, yesterday, my two months old HTC Desire Z (NL, no simlock, CWM 3.0.0.5, CM7RC2) ran out of battery. When I put my phone back in the charger later at night, the red LED began flashing, 2 flashes (interval about 1sec.) and than no flashing for 2 or 3 sec. and starting over again. it sometimes boots into recovery, but then turns itself of after a couple of seconds. I left it in the charger a full night with no effects, let it "rest" for about 8 hours and put it back, still no success.. Anybody an idea? thanks in advance ;-)!
Did you try a battery pull? Leave it out for about ten minutes.
I was just going to put it back in after half an hour.. will edit if something happens, don't expect it as nothing happened after all the things I already tried
EDIT: goes flashing again, let me try to turn it on.
nope, nothing : (
This may seem a bit obvious, but did you try charging it through your computer? The AC adapter could just be broken.

That's not it, in the computer it doesn't even do the flashy thing. I think it's the battery, i'm going to buy a new one soon, €30 -.-" but since my warranty's gone it's worth the shot. keep coming with ideas please though! : )
Li ion batteries will stop taking a charge if they are over-discharged. Li ion batteries have a safety circuit that is SUPPOSED to prevent over discharge, but they don't always work. I've seen this happen to several folks over on the Touch Pro 2 forums. Charging overnight on the wall charger will sometimes work (USB is not enough). Otherwise you need a special charger/battery tester with a boost function to bring the battery back from the dead. Short of that, you just need to get a new battery.
Its possible you may have some issue besides over-discharge, such as a bad battery. But just in case, in the future it would be advisable to avoid discharging the battery below 20%, or at least 10%, whenever possible. Some here have claimed that newer phones, or perhaps the Android OS itself is better at preventing over-discharge of the battery. But this is the second post I've seen on the Vision forum with this same problem. So my inclination is still to be as cautious as possible with draining the battery too low.
I had this same issue once before, let my battery run out and then it wouldn't charge or turn on, so like stated above, I had a travel wall charger from chichitech and put the battery in that over night and it brought it back.

Honestly: I'm from the usa, I don't even know what the desire is. I'm assuming its a non us version of the g2.
In the tmobile store there are bigger batteries u can buy, I got the stock battery and never upgraded but I did see them there..
Go into your local store and I'm sure u could test it right there with there batterys.. if u don't wanna wait for ur friend that is..

I've been using the red chichitech 1800mah EVO batteries since October and love them, you just have to peel the red wrapper off and they will fit under the stock door. Plus for the price you get two batteries and a wall travel charger for what one stock battery will cost you, look for Chichitech on Amazon, I got them three days after I placed my order.

There is an Asian Desire Z too. In fact, the Desire Z is so much more widely distributed, I'd dare say the more definitive version is the Desire Z, and the G2 just happens to be T-Mob's variant. But that's just me. They are all Visions in the end, aren't they?

I came from the evo to the mytouch but have had the incredible in the past. The evo and and incredible use the same battery but sad to say my evo battery did not fit in the phone. Battery was too big.

You will not able to use any other battery with the phone
Selling phones at radio shack (att tmo and sprint) I haven't seen a battery that looks like it would even have the contacts in the proper place or right size... so there might be a VZW phone out there that might be able to swap, but none of the current phones on other carriers seem to be cross compatible....

Anyone tried switching a battery from a G2? I just switched from one of those (quite against my will, as I loved the phone but had wi-fi calling issues), and the batteries look almost identical. However, not having them side by side, as I had to send the g2 back, I cant confirm for certain.
The TP2 battery won't fit. I had one for my Slide and both of those batteries are taller than the MT4G battery.
Pull your battery out and google the battery model number. I did and if I remember correctly all of the entries I saw were for the MT4G only, nothing else listed. So maybe it's a new battery?
The first Five Second
The same day i purchased my MT4G (release date) i pulled my tp2 out of my pocket, pulled the battery out, and tried to fit it into the MT4G... and i failed, it doesn't fit as stated in the post above... was worth the try 1500 mAh battery would have been nice

Dude, I got the same exact issue. But before I got this MT4G I bought for a very short time MT3G, and there yes, my extended batty off of my TP2 (Touch Pro2) fit, the door didn't but the battery did. Few days later, MT4G were released, so I was still able to return my MT3G and add a bit more money and get the MT4G, but here, this battery doesn't fit at all, like ESKIMOn00b said, looks like it, but it doesn't fit. Even if you magically make it fit, what are you going to cover it with?
So for now, no battery. Do what I do: Carry a charger with.

A Door would be huge issue, also. MT4G has this laching in metal door.
I don't know if there was already a thread about this, but I searched and didn't find anything.
So my USB port on my cappy is busted, so I had to buy this. I just got it today, but was disappointed to find out that it only charges the battery included (which I believe is a fascinate battery), and I can't use the other 2 batteries I have. The fascinate battery works fine, but I'd rather have 2 batteries to use for a backup. Could someone explain to me why it doesn't charge my cappy/i9000 batteries or any solution?
Edit: Also, nobody else seems to have this problem from reading the reviews.
Well the first thing that comes to mind for me is, are you sure the usb on your phone is busted? Maybe the problem is your original battery has stopped taking a charge. You said busted but I don't know if you mean physically as in you can no longer stick your wire in it, or just when you plug it in the battery does not get charged.
Busted isn't a concise enough description of the problem for me to be able to give a better answer.
I use the oem spare battery charger/stand and i love it.. Might want to try that if you dont get a repair or warranty done

Lol sorry, my usb port will not charge or sync at all. I also JUST ordered another battery, so unless my old battery stopped charging right when my usb port broke, and the new one I got was broken, I don't think it's a problem with the batteries. I just don't know why it would charge the fascinate battery and not my 2 cappy batteries.

I just found myself in the same position as of two days ago (damned questionable design for the way the cappy's USB port is set and secured). Did you ever find out if there was a reason why you couldn't charge the batteries that originally came with the phone?
FYI: My timing for the 1 year warranty was awful in that it expired 19 days ago. As for insurance repair/replacement, I wasn't looking at replacing my cappy for approximately $125. So, after looking at doing a Walmart/Target deal, and then finding out they are still charging for tax, when it came down to costs I went with the external charger and replacement battery option after a lot of reading on the web, amazon, and then eventually to the posts on this topic....

Nah, I'm still using the one battery. Sort of a hassle (I can't use my phone as an alarm since I charge it overnight) but I guess I'm happy that I can at least use the phone. I'm still waiting for someone to offer a cheap repair though. It sucks not being able to put anything on my internal sd and having to use the ota miui updates, but it's better than nothing.

Wifi Explorer from the market is great for transferring files to and from the phone using a wifi network since USB is not an option for you.

IIRC the Fascinated battery won't charge in a Captivate and vice versa. They have different part numbers. I'm not sure of the techincal details but it has something to do with the different currents the two phones charge at.

Well that's a bit irritating. I guess then shouldn't have been advertising it as a charger for all phones, then.
I could probably do the repair work if pointed to the correct part necessary to replace the broken USB port. I fear one of these days my Captivate will suffer the same fate.
My qualifications: I do a lot of fine SMD/SMT reworking by hand. Mainly video game consoles and other consumer electronic goods. I have reputation/feedback on other forums as well as eBay if desired.

My girlfriends phone has been acting strange. Showing that it is charging when nothing is plugged in, beeping consistently, and instead of shutting down it reboots. We took it in to Sprint and they said it has minor water damage in the bottom half. No insurance so nothing they could do.
It seems like an easy fix if I can find the part. It would be the USB Flex Cable I believe and its only $10ish dollars on ebay.
The problem I'm having is that I cant find the USB Flex Cable for the sph-d710 just ones for the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.
I emailed the seller of

this listing and he said "this should fit". I just want to be sure it is the same cable before I order it.
I cant find any tutorial so I'm just going to follow along with this

Any advice or tips on replacing the cable?
Is this the right cable for the job?
Thanks!

Was there any visible sign/ troubleshoot method to figure out it was the battery? Was the battery bulging and would spin?
Her battery is still flat so it doesnt seem like the lithium is leaking or anything.

You actually could get a battery cheaper off of Amazon than the eBay route your going. But I figured mine was the battery because I had a spare one to test with and as soon as I popped that one I realized it was the OEM battery and was failing with no physical signs other than performance and the fast discharge and random reboots. Check the threads here a lot of people are having issues with the original battery. Seems they are all failing around the same time. But do a search on Amazon and read some reviews before buying a replacement battery but I personaly would recommended the 2 batteries plus wall charger for $20 its awesome you can use one battery while charging the other. Never have a dead phone again. Or just grab an OEM battery for about $5. Do you know any one that has a compatible battery to just test with?
One more thing you got this phone off of Craigslist is it rooted with a custom rom ?

Now, I know...the M9 has ALWAYS had a reputation for being bad on batteries.
I also know, that Facebook and Messenger are two nasty apps that eat batteries alive.
Saying all of that up front, the battery life on my M9 has very suddenly become VERY bad (even with Facebook and Messenger not installed). I thought it might have been a battery calibration issue, but trying a calibration program out seems to yield no improvement (even in the accuracy of the battery indicator).
So, now, if I'm lucky, I'll get about 2.5hrs of battery life even if the phone is in airplane mode indoors. My battery will get to about 65% and then the phone will shut off. When I try to start the phone, I'll get a 0% indicator sometimes, but after plugging it into the charger, I'll then see about 65% battery instantly.
Is there anything I can do or should I throw in the towel and upgrade to an HTC 10? Things are to the point I can't use the thing when its plugged into the charger!
I was using the last nightly build of CM on the thing for months before it got THIS bad. I thought maybe keeping it plugged into the charger too much was the problem, but wiping the dalvik cache after fully charging might help too... no change. I tired flashing Lineage and the battery life is the roughly the same.
Should I try flashing back to stock or try a firmware upgrade or somekind? I honestly have no clue what to do with this thing.
I honestly believe it's a hardware issue. I've tried most anything and I'm there too! I was just going to buy a lightly used m9, flash my current ROM onto it, and wait for the Pixel 2 (the HTC is looking like a disappointment).
My brother had a similar issue with his M8. Sprint refused to acknowledge any kind of hardware issue and insisted that he must have too many apps running, even after a factory reset. He eventually switched to an HTC 10.
I currently have my HTC 10 in for warranty so I have to us my M9 in the meantime. I tried upgrading to a nougat rom only to get terrible battery life. I switched to the santod stock debloated marshmallow and it lasts the day and a couple of hours. I read on the thread that there are no nougat radios for the M9 which causes the battery drain.
I figured it out. It was the battery all along. Replaced the battery, and the phone is getting the best battery life it has ever gotten.

Yes, I replaced it myself, and your situation sounds VERY similar to mine. It was one of the trickiest operations I have ever done on a phone by far, but the M9 has a few things that make it much easier to do then the M8 for sure (I was dreading having to replace a USB port on my old M8). I replaced the USB port for my M9 while I was in there and also did the thermal mod to help cool the CPU down. I have a very steady hand and some experience doing these types of things, but am by no means a professional.
I talk about my experiences doing all three of these operations here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72235621&postcount=49
Only additional note I have is, that the Amazon seller I bought my battery from is now out of stock. A friend of mine who just bought a M9 is ordering a new battery for his, so I can update you with that experience soon. As some people seem to be getting old batteries or batteries that aren't holding a charge even from the vendor I bought mine from. I almost wonder if some scumbags are returning batteries to Amazon saying they didn't use them, but are actually sending back their old batteries!
I did notice while looking for new battery replacements on Amazon the other night, that there does appear to be generic non-OEM replacement options on the market now, where I did not find those at the time I did my replacement. My friend is getting his battery off ebay from a Hong Kong seller, so it will likely be a few weeks before we have it in hand.
I also used this video on youtube as reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYm-2dUW03M I stopped and did the USB board replacement before most of the steps (that is actually quite easy to do by itself). You can watch it to get a REALLY good idea of what you'll have to deal with. I had the Verizon version of the M9 to deal with, so I only had one antenna wire instead of two (most be a different antenna in the VZW version of the phone), and getting the CNC connections back together was harder then ANY of the ribbon cables shown. I had to remove my contact lenses and look at the motherboard really close to see it clearly.
@TheXev Thanks for all of the info. I heard that conducting the battery swap was notoriously tricky. I ended up just buying a m9 for cheap and porting everything over to it... when this battery inevitable dies in 6 months I may give the self-replacement a go (or move on to a Pixel or something).

Glad it worked out for ya.. but on a stranger note... WTF IS UP WITH THAT VIDEO!? lol its EXACTLY the same as mine, only with a different logo, the font was changed from blue to red.... and the music is different but it is otherwise EXACTLY THE SAME. lol
I'm switching tabs between these videos at different parts, and its just changing colors... I think your video is from the original author, I'm going to let him know about this other channel ripping off their work.
My phone has same battery behavior.
Anyone in Los Angeles area want to swap out my battery for me???
Any reputable phone service places anyone can recommend?
I really don't think I should try to do this myself.
Has anybody personally found a good replacement internal battery that has full, or close to full charge capacity? Before anybody says it, I have replaced phone batteries before and have no issues with the risk and disassembly aspect of replacing the battery. I want to install a new one because my current battery dies so quickly anymore, but everywhere I look I only find ones with terrible user reviews. Can anybody point me in the direction of a better quality option?

No I ended up using the slightly-less-than-terrible verizon trade in offer on an s10. I got the plus because of the 4ah battery specifically although im already remember how much samsung's UI's blow compared to regular android... But if I had gotten one I would probably just get one directly from ifixit after reading some of the user feedback. Seems like they are mostly better received than amazon and ebay options.
I purchased a battery from the below eBay seller.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/113153374724
It's a genuine battery from what I can tell and came in a clear plastic case. It's dated 2019/01/16, so very recent. I'll be installing it tomorrow.

I just installed this same battery yesterday. Been using it all day today. Seems to work just fine so far. But only time will tell.
I just installed mine today. As you pointed out, no real way to know how good until it's had a few cycles under it's belt. Was the HTC logo marked out on your battery?

Logos are marked out to do with customs, in many of countries they do not allow the importation of counterfeit products under copyright law, marking out the company logo bypasses this. Obviously if the actual OEM is selling their own batteries then this does not need to be done.
Any updates on battery life? I am looking to buy from the same seller for my Pixel XL.

How is it holding up? I am looking for OEM quality replacement battery too, half a year is enough to tell whether it is good or not...

Sorry for the late reply.
It was defective, it lasted a week before it would no longer hold a charge. It looked genuine, but I didn't want to deal with a replacement, so I ended up getting a refund, and going with ifixit for a replacement battery instead. I'm guessing I just received a lemon, the seller was solid with the refund.

Expensive at $25, but it's been solid ever since. Holds a charge very well. I purchased the kit, since I can see myself reusing the tools in the future.
It matches the original bloated battery I took out the first time. It seems to be genuine OEM, the HTC logo on the battery is covered up by a black marker which you can remove with alcohol. You can even make it out a bit in their photos.

Thank you for the update!
I guess I will get this one probably, instead of buying the new Pixel 4 XL.. just to see how long it lasts... it still works damn good, and exactly why I chose Google phone over other cheaper contract phones!!
What do you think? any practical reason to get the 4 over a battery upgrade for this one?

Since Google decided to extend support for the OG Pixel/XL with Android 10, they left me little reason to upgrade to 4. They would have to come in at $700 (not going to happen) or less for me to upgrade, or else I'm staying put until next year's 5. There is also the "possible" Pixel 4a/XL to look forward to in 6 months.
I had to buy mine used to replace my OnePlus 5 that had a saltwater accident after 2 years of use. The used eBay pixel XL I bought seemed like it hadn't been used in well over a year based on the software update status. It was also on the beta program so it was probably an enthusiast who bought new and used it a few months and switched to something else throwing it in a drawer. Battery still seems as good as they were new, after months of me using it. Still not as good as the OnePlus 5 and doesn't charge fast but it's still a good phone. Camera is close to as good as anything out there. UI had more lag than the op5 but seems smoother in scrolling and general usage.
Hi,on my pixel XL my USB preferences stopped working and is stuck on charge. After trying different chargers and cables, my phone will only charge using a USB-A to USB-C. When I plug phone into PC, it will only charge, can't change it from charge. I was wondering if someone has had a similar problem. If so, did changing the battery fix this problem or has anyone changed the USB daughter board and that fixed the problem. If anyone knows of a fix for my problem. Thank you.

Yes, I have tried on a different computer, did work there either. What it feels like, my USB preferences are not on my pixel XL anymore. Like they got wiped off my phone. Thanks
