I'm upgrading from a class 4 16gb Micro SDHC card to a class 10 32gb one. How do I transfer all my apps to the new card. I have partitioned the old card with a 512mb ext 4 with my app2sd stuff on it. Should I just use Rom Manager and partiton the new card and then just simply copy everything across.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked before.
you'll need to copy it from one sd to another via a PC with a OS that can read ext4 partitions (booting your own windows pc with ubuntu live cd should work fine), then it's regular copy paste, and you'll need to partition the new card as well before booting with it
Thanks, I haven't used Windows for years. I use Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit, so I'll be fine. Thanks again.
And use Titanium Backup for your applications (if rooted)
Will Titanium Backup restore my apps back to the ext4 partition of the new card when formatted? I use AppBrain, I was going to simply resync the phone to that. What do you think?

i want to ask if i change a new memory card , after i format it to fat32 wat should i do next ? my friend done this but the phone still cant detect the sd card .. any solution ?
The phone should detect it after it has been formatted. If it's not detecting it, then something has gone wrong with the card or the phone. I suspect a dodgy card.
Really, all you have to do is this:
Backup your old card
Format your new card
copy the backup onto new card
That's all it should be, unless you're using A2SD or soemthing.
If you have multiple partitions, if you are using A2SD, then you might need something epic like Clonezilla to literally mirror the structure of the old SD card onto the new card. If after a format of FAT32 and the card isn't detected at all, then as the previous post said, the card is probably dud.
i going to buy class 10 8 gb memory card .. does it make the phone load the file faster ? or i juz get class 4 16g better

A2SD transfer the easy way for users
1 - create a nandroid backup of everything (this includes the A2SD ext partition)
2 - backup EVERYTHING from the mem card to your pc!
3 - insert new mem card
4 - run rom manager (download it from the market if you have to!)
5 - partition the new card with rom manager (creating an ext partition as well)
6 - Copy everything from the pc BACK to the NEW card!!!!
7 - Restore the nandroid backup!!!!!!!!!
You now have the phone back to the exact state you started with but with a different memory card installed!
buffer size 8kb
Data size 10mb
Write : 5.27mb
read 12.72
this is kingmax class 10 8gb memory card ..izit good ?
any memory card recommended?

i'd also like to know some memory card recommendations.
i found a 16GB class 6, but they're mostly out of stock all places..
if 16gb got class 6 den i will get 1 =)
I've been running my A2SD for 2 weeks now and am happy with it - other than a few apps stutter a bit.
I've put this down to my slow 'non classed' 16gb memory card, so I ordered a Class 6 16gb one the other day.
Its turned up today, and I want to swap it for the current one.
As I don't have a Linux computer, whats the best way of doing this? I can't see the partition with the Apps on it in my Windows PC.
Should I just use Titanium Backup and do a batch backup of all my 'User Apps and System Data', then copy the contents of my SD Card to my PC.... then format the new card for A2SD, then copy the contents back and restore my Backup?
Any help appreciated!
download the ubuntu live cd here http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download. it will run from a cd or usb stick and dosent need to be installed, you will be able to see your sd-ext as its a linux os, you can then just copy the apps to your hdd, partition your new card using the native ubuntu disk utility and then copy your apps to your new sd card
Thanks for the reply.
Sounds simple enough - I'll get downloading.
Do I just stick my SD in a USB reader and do it, or read the SD straight from the Desire?
Cant you just copy the files to your pc then paste them back when you put the new SD card in? Worked for me today... well all seems fine upto yet
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
He can't because he has a ext2/3 file system partiotion that he's using for A2SD and ext is not shown in windows.
You probably don't have ext2/3 and that's why it worked without problems for you.

I don't think it matters, it should work both ways.
Just out of curiousity.... will my Mac see the A2SD partition on my SD card since Apple OS shares a lot in common with Linux?
Wouldnt the easiest option to be to do a nandroid, partition the new sd card, then just restore the nandroid saves faffing about with other stuff.
Depending on what rom your using it may be a better option to use data2sd
Hey guys, i had a samsung microsd 8gb class 2 card and i just got a 32gb lexar class 10 . i was on miui a2sd. i partitioned my 8gb card using rom manager (unfortunately), the 32gb is ALL fat32.
first, i copied my 8gb card to my computer, then transferred that to my 32gb. the card didnt work (phone stayed on HTC screen forever).
after a bit of fooling around, i backed up my apps+data to my 8gb sd using titanium, then i performed a factory reset of the phone. i then moved the dalvik cache back to internal memory and for some reason, the 32gb card worked in the phone.
then i decided to switch to mildwild rom instead of miui. the problem is, now when i open titanium with the 32gb card, NONE of my apps are shown. if i use the 8gb card, the apps are shown and able to be restored.
so can anybody explain this? and do i need to partition my 32gb for mildwild?
If your rom requires EXT partition, then obviously you have to create EXT partition on your new card.
via xda app
maybe you have an EXT partition in samsung card. You have to prepare partition on new card, do a nandroid backup with samsung card on, copy files to pc, paste files on lexar card and restore nandroid with lexar on.
If you were using MIUI A2SD then part of your 8GB will have a Ext partition. I suggest (no responsibility accepted) you partition your 32GB using gParted and use some kind of Linux OS to copy the files from the Ext partition of your old card to your new one. Failing that, do a nandroid back up on your 8GB and copy that over to your 32GB and restore. But be sure to have an ext partition of your 32gb because you need it for your MIUI A2SD.
Hello all
I ordered a new µSD card on Amazon (28,63€) for my Desire HD, a Transcend Class 10 32 Gb (TS32GUSDHC10), and will receive it tomorrow.
I have freshly reinstalled the CoreDroid 9.4 rom + Link2SD and a lot of apps, my actual µSD card is the 8Gb Samsung provided with the DesireHD.
My Samsung 8Gb µSD card is partitionned like that:
|--FAT32~6,4Gb--|--EXT3(or 4?!)~1Gb--|--Swap-~128Mb--|
What is the correct method to switch to the new µSD card without loosing anything ?
Thanks!
I think two ways are possible. The first - you get your card, put it into a cardreader, make partitions as they were, for example 1GB ext4, swap 128mb and the rest is FAT32. And just copy your stuff from one card to another. (The only problem here is that you need linux to access your ext4 partition). Also you can try to use something like Acronis Disk Director Suite. It can copy partitions (in your case i think it's better to make a backup of partitions and just restore them to 32GB card) and after restoring just change the size to something bigger. Also Titanium Backup can be a way out. Though i don't know how it works with Link2SD. Just don't delete anything from 8GB and if one way doesn't work, you'll be able to try another.
I did this recently, I however put the new card and start with a fresh rom install.
As Slavon-93, you can partition your card first and then copy files from one card to another. To read your ext3/ext4 partition, you can use ext2fsd, ext2read or Linux Reader. I personaly used ext2fsd for a long time without any issue, for both reading/writing.
Make a backup before, image of your partition or whatever and test
(Hi neighbour ! )
hello
i used this way to change between a 16 gb sdcard to 32 gb sdcard, using android revolution hd 7.3 without lost apps or data
0. create a nand backup with clockworkmod recovery or 4ext recovery
1. burn a live cd or use a usb to run ubuntu(the latest version)
2.COPY your data from your fat32 and ext3(4) to the desktop pc (also works on laptop ) in separate folders do not mix fat32 and ext3 data.
3.insert your 32 gb sdcard to the pc and open the program GPARTED
4.format your 32gb in this way (obviously chage the amount of your first partition to 28-30 gb may vary depending on the real size of the 32gb sdcard create your second and third partition like the 8 gb sdcard)
(in gparted program you can look if your second partition is ext3 or ext4 use the correct, the same in 8gb sdcard )
|--FAT32~xx,xGb--|--EXT3(4)~1Gb--|--Swap-~128Mb--|
5.after you format your 32 gb sdcard you NEED TO COPY your data from your pc to your 32 gb sdcard copy the
6.you can easily copy your fat32 data to your sd card but when yo want copy ext3 data you need make the following steps(linux write protects the ext3(4) partitions )
-open the TERMINAL program on ubuntu
-write in terminal:sudo nautilus
-when open a window like file explorer search for mounted ext3 partition on sdcard an do left click
-open properties then permissions and grant root acces and write rights for all the users (otherwise the ext3 partition will only be in read mode)
7.after you copy all the data to your sd card(the fat32 data to your fat32 partition an your ext3 data to your ext3 partition thi will be ready for insert in your android phone
remember NO ERASE your data for your 8gb sdcard until you are safe that this method worked, you can look in link2sd the information of your sd cards partitions and open apks that you are safe that are linked on sdcard
good luck
sorry for my english
Thanks for all advices!
As expected, I received the 32Gb µSD card today
My DHD is now fully working with the new µSD card! That was easy.
I proceeded like that:
On the DHD: Full backup the old 8Gb µSD card! (I used ROM Manager and CWM Recovery)
With an external card reader and PC with Ubuntu: copy both the fat32 and the ext3/4 partition from the old 8Gb µSD card into separate folders of course (for example /home/documents/sddata and /home/documents/sdext)
On the PC: launch gparted as root and create 1 fat32 partition ~29,6Gb + 1 ext4 partition ~1Gb on the new 32Gb µSD card
On the PC: copy the files from the PC to the new µSD into their respective partitions
Boot the DHD and launch Link2SD to check if everything is fine

Salut voisin !
Dear Brainaics
I've got an issue,
My sd card is 64 gb sandisk class 10
I was using Pro Bam android 4.4.1 on my n7100
So I formatted my memory card within the rom.. It was fat 32 or ntfs
Later I got some issues with the rom, So I installed the stock rooted rom.
Ever since that I've been getting an unsupported file system.
Format Card - It shows formatting - then unsupported file system error - This goes on and on.
So i tried mounting it in Linux Ubuntu & try to format using gparted & terminal.
My data is there.. The card reads & all.
But I can't format it.
These are all the steps i've taken, I even tried sd formatter I got somewhere from xda!
Any useful info would be greatly appreciated by me offcourse mentally.
I mean i crave for knowing the reason behind this anomaly!
Have a good day...
Cheers
Can you delete any files on the card? I had a 64gb SanDisk card that had all my data but I couldn't format it, copy files or delete files from it, either on my phone or laptop.
SanDisk replaced it for me as it had developed a fault.
