[Q] One Click Root Clockwork Mod version 3 question - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I had to post this question here instead of it's rightful thread because I'm new to this site & am restricted. Sorry if this question been covered already. I searched but didn't find my exact situation.
I've been a long time Titanium-X rom user with my Moment, but now since getting an Epic I want to branch out & expand my horizons, so to speak. I currently have One Click Root with CWM 2.5.1.0 installed & want to move from the Titanium-X 2.2.1 EB13 Rom to the Midnight 4.2 Rom along with the newer OCR & CWM3. My current Titanium-X rom is already deodexed, so after I install OCR & CWM3, should I still flash the dual fs kernel or is it not necessary then?
Thanx in advance,
~drums4life~

In not following the x-rom at all. Once you root the phone with cwm 3.0.0.6 and you boot into recovery the conversion to wxt4 will take place. After it is xonoketw you have to flash either a custom rom that is ext4 or a ext4 kernel.

Flashing Custom ROM's

I am just getting into modifying my EVO and want to know what is the easiest way to flash custom ROMs.
Also is there a fully functional Froyo build for the EVO that has the Sense UI?
Thanks in advance,
~Tim

Just place the file on your SD card; boot into recovery (Hold Down Vol & Power); and install the .zip file. Assuming you're rooted w/ a custom recovery... If you need help with this there are threads with details on how to go about rooting your phone and flashingt a ROM.
...and remember always backup before making changes.

I used UnrEVOked3 to root. I am running the Baked snack rom right now. I love it. Brings me back to the days of hacking my 8925.
Any fully functional Froyo ROM out for the EVO right now?

Rooting Question

Hello guys,
First of all, I'm not new to rooting or custom ROMS, having said that my question is, what is the best method to root an EVO?
Browsing thru the forums, I found the following methods:
[ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ v2.5 (4/25/11)
To my understanding, this method will flash a custom rom "Sprint Lovers ROM"
and
[Program] SimpleRoot .1 ---- 3 Click Root w/ nand unlock!!
This method recommends flashing a custom rom
Now, I do not want to flash a custom rom since I'm doing this for a friend and I do not want him to be dealing with custom roms, nandroid backups, etc. Is there another method to root an evo? Without having to flash a custom rom.
Thank you
Easiest, fastest, coolest way to root without a custom rom. Might have some issues with permissions if you don't flash a custom rom unless you're just trying to do basic junk like tether. I'd actually recommend flashing a stock rooted custom rom instead of just gaining root on the eng stock rom. Make sure you hit up the market and download busybox if you don't flash a custom rom and update superuser.
Run unrevoked 3 (1st one)

Stock rooted rom, or you could just run sprint lovers. It just has few added tweaks but mostly stock.

Thank you and yes, he just wants to tether

Most of the Hot Spot App usage will be from a custom rom in order for it to be unlocked. Wireless Tether will usually work as well and all you need is root. There are plenty of stock ruu's out there as well, but is a little more time consuming to run.
If you look down a little on xHaux's post in your first link...you can do a quick version that does not flash Sprint Lovers:
Instructions for Quick method:
This will completely wipe your phone. If you would like to back up your apps you can use Titanium backup to save them. It also has an option to save the system files but this can result in a buggy ROM afterward.
Extract AutoRoot.zip into a folder that is easy to find.
Open a DOS prompt by running the OpenShell file.
Type 'autoroot quick' and press Enter
It will then flash the engineering bootloader and the recovery through fastboot. Once it is finished you can use the bootloader menu to boot into the recovery and make a NANDroid, flash a ROM, radios, etc.
No matter the reason...a nandroid is always a good idea if only to do it once your happy with your decision on what to run.....something WILL happen when he/she finds out what options are out there. A quick restore will get you back to day one.
Also look even a bit farther down in the thread..there are options based on what hboot you have. xHausx's method was such a breeze...just sit back and watch the scripts do the work for you!
Good Luck
Unrevoked. One click and done.

[Q] Upgrading to 2.3.3 from 2.2 rooted?

I am using 2.2 and kernal version 2.6.32.17, build number 3.70, this phone is already rooted, but never had any ROMs installed.. how can I upgrade to 2.3.3 and then root that? I assume ill have to back up everything to my pc from my sd card? I hope someone can steer me the right way, and its not as complicated..
If you are rooted, choose a rom that you want that has 2.3.3 there are plenty out there, even the sprint lovers rom or even synergy if you want the new sense 3.0 features.
Download which you want put the zip on the root of your sd card.
Find caulkins wipe zip, which is in one of his threads, put that on the root of your sd card as well.
Load up recovery(can be done by vol down+power when powered off)
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash caulkins wipe zip.
Flash the rom you want.
Reboot.
When i tried to flash the caulkins wipe zip I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgradeing to the clockworkMod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update- binary) to create working update zip package.
It rebooted. So then i wet in ROM Manager and tried to install the synergy room and i got an installation aborted error and my evo restarted and the stock rom came up as if brand new, all contacts/apps gone. Luckily i made a backup and was able to restore.. what could the problem be?

If you have S-off then you already rooted. Just flash a rooted stock ROM.
**CLICK HERE** and go to post #2. That has links to the latest rooted stock ROMs.
Don't forget the thanks button.
Op I think you should run decks aosp rom. The problem you are having with the amend script is because you're running clockwork mod recovery. Now you have 2 options. If you decide to go with the rom I would recommend, you should go in the link below and follow all of the instructions.
If you wanna flash what you were trying to flash before, go to the link below and somewhere in the first post you will find a link to amon ra recovery. Flash that recovery and then you can follow the instructions you were trying before

That may not be a 3.0 version, some roms were sense 2.1 build with 3.0 features, like lock screen, ect.
Ah gotcha, no complaints, still nice compared to the 2.2 stock that shipped out with Sprint..

There are full 3.5 roms in the dev section, if you still wanted one.

[Q] question about kernels

Hey all, I just have a few quick stupid questions after researching and not coming up with the answers............ Sorry if they have been answered before, I did search for ages before resorting to asking stupid questions
Can I flash a custom kernel onto a HTC ONE X with the stock ROM in place, without modifying the stock ROM?
From what I have found the RADIO is a part of the kernel??..... does this mean I need to find one to suit my country(optus AUSTRALIA) or am I able to flash the radio seperate?
Basicly, Im wanting to add the infamous sweep2wake by show-p1984 to my stock operating system
Thanks in advance
Bootloader
locked/unlocked?
Only possible unlocked
Stock rom
Rooted/Unrooted?
Only possible with root
CWM recovery installed yes or no
Only possible with cwm flashed?
but apart from that yes it can be done
Kernel is flashed seperate from the radio so no issues there
Im just now going through the motions of unlocking bootloader and recovery.... do I just go with the newest version of recovery?
(im following the for dummies guide)
By only possible with CWM flashed, do you mean CWM recovery? or it can be only flashed through CWM?
And im not to sure wether the factory ROM is rooted or not yet
NONO i mean clockword recovery installed..
U need to flash the kernel in fastboot....(bootloader mode)
Just keep on reading and follow ALL the steps
U`ll be alright ( and the stock rom is NOT rooted)
legend ! Thanks heaps, yeah definatly reading everything twice before going ahead

[Q] Update android version 2.2

I have just rooted my HTC EVO 4g and it is Android version 2.2. Can I now just flash the newest stock rooted (2.35 or whatever) or do I need to increase versions in steps?
Thanks!
Karen
If you rooted with that method in the other thread, then you should already have a custom recovery, so you should be able to flash whatever ROM you want directly, after adding it to your SDcard.
