Flashing Custom ROM's - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am just getting into modifying my EVO and want to know what is the easiest way to flash custom ROMs.
Also is there a fully functional Froyo build for the EVO that has the Sense UI?
Thanks in advance,
~Tim

Just place the file on your SD card; boot into recovery (Hold Down Vol & Power); and install the .zip file. Assuming you're rooted w/ a custom recovery... If you need help with this there are threads with details on how to go about rooting your phone and flashingt a ROM.
...and remember always backup before making changes.

I used UnrEVOked3 to root. I am running the Baked snack rom right now. I love it. Brings me back to the days of hacking my 8925.
Any fully functional Froyo ROM out for the EVO right now?

[Q] How to go from cyanogen 6.1 to a metro pcs compatible rom on htc evo

Ok I have a HTC evo rooted with cyanogen 6.1 installed. I wanted to keep cyanogen since I'm new to flashing Roms, and it was available in rom manager. I wanted to know if there is a stable custom rom that I can use to flash my evo to metro with?
I planned on using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763550
The thing is I don't know what software version I have. I can't seem to find the software version in settings>>about phone. I just want to make sure I don't mess something up
Any help?
Im pretty sure all I got to do is revert back to the original sprint rom and then just follow that tutorial. I just need some reassurance. Any help is highly apprieciated.
After you do that flash metrodroid

can i use rom manager?
Thanks for the reply. Um, how do to go back to the stock rom. Can i use one of my rom manager backups. Or will I have to flash a ruu or whatever. I'm trying to familiarize myself with the terminology. I'm slowly catching on, thanks in advance.
You can do it either way

If she wants that crappy custom version of htc sense, use CR MOD or nbetcher mod. It is the stock T-Mobile 2.2 OTA but with root access and it doesn't flash a new radio or hboot.
If you want something fast and amazing, try CyanogenMod 6 or CyanogenMod 7

I was going to put on CyanogenMod but her phone doesn't recognize her internal sd card. I can get into recovery but cant apply up date nor can I put a rom on her interal drive. Not sure what that's all about. Wish I could use Odin or something.

[Q] S-Off OTA and Totanium Backup

Hi all,
I have an S-off OG EVO running stock GB 2.3.3. I would like to stay with the stock ROM and be able to run Titanium Backup and be able to create a wifi hot spot.
I had such a configuration on my Optimus S and it worked very well for me.
I have to say that I really love my EVO and I am just missing these features to be perfectly happy.
I flashed a ROM labeled as stock GB rooted, but it was not really the stock ROM I have, for example the ## menus did not work and the screen lock was the regular GB lock, not the sense one. I had to flash back to pure unrooted stock to activate the phone on my line.
Since I have S-off, I can flash any ROM, any suggestion about where to get an actual GB 2.3.3 OTA rooted ROM or if it even exists?
I would go with a different ROM, but reading some of the problems that users have with some functionalities not working, I am concerned, I need a fully functional phone, although I would not mind vanilla GB, if I was sure that everything works perfectly well.
The closest I found is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379, but people seem to have tons of issues that do not exist in the stock ROM.
Any suggestions?
Download the Superuser flashable zip and flash it through recovery. This will root your current non-rooted rom. Then download Titanium Backup and select the problems button. Install busybox from there and you should be able to do what you need without flashing a new rom.
There's a complete guide somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you for your reply.
So being S-off is enough to gain root? I just have to flash it and be rooted?
I will try as soon as I have a few minutes.
It worked perfectly, thank you!

No problem
I'm glad that you were able to follow my really vague guide. Especially considering I've never done it myself, I just regurgitated what I've heard.

[Q] Upgrading to 2.3.3 from 2.2 rooted?

I am using 2.2 and kernal version 2.6.32.17, build number 3.70, this phone is already rooted, but never had any ROMs installed.. how can I upgrade to 2.3.3 and then root that? I assume ill have to back up everything to my pc from my sd card? I hope someone can steer me the right way, and its not as complicated..
If you are rooted, choose a rom that you want that has 2.3.3 there are plenty out there, even the sprint lovers rom or even synergy if you want the new sense 3.0 features.
Download which you want put the zip on the root of your sd card.
Find caulkins wipe zip, which is in one of his threads, put that on the root of your sd card as well.
Load up recovery(can be done by vol down+power when powered off)
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash caulkins wipe zip.
Flash the rom you want.
Reboot.
When i tried to flash the caulkins wipe zip I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgradeing to the clockworkMod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update- binary) to create working update zip package.
It rebooted. So then i wet in ROM Manager and tried to install the synergy room and i got an installation aborted error and my evo restarted and the stock rom came up as if brand new, all contacts/apps gone. Luckily i made a backup and was able to restore.. what could the problem be?

If you have S-off then you already rooted. Just flash a rooted stock ROM.
**CLICK HERE** and go to post #2. That has links to the latest rooted stock ROMs.
Don't forget the thanks button.
Op I think you should run decks aosp rom. The problem you are having with the amend script is because you're running clockwork mod recovery. Now you have 2 options. If you decide to go with the rom I would recommend, you should go in the link below and follow all of the instructions.
If you wanna flash what you were trying to flash before, go to the link below and somewhere in the first post you will find a link to amon ra recovery. Flash that recovery and then you can follow the instructions you were trying before

That may not be a 3.0 version, some roms were sense 2.1 build with 3.0 features, like lock screen, ect.
Ah gotcha, no complaints, still nice compared to the 2.2 stock that shipped out with Sprint..

There are full 3.5 roms in the dev section, if you still wanted one.

Need the newest ROOTED stock Rom

Okay i've been running MIUI forever now, but with all the recent problems and lack of support from the dev i've been forced to give up on MIUI altogether, which really really really angers be, but i have no other choice.
That being said, i just tried to restore to my most recent 'stock' nandroid and when i booted up it kept telling me to upgrade to gingerbread, but if i remember correctly if i do this update i will lose my root..
so can someone point me to the newest rooted stock rom. zip link?
