Hello:
Our devides don´t have trackball(*). So, we have to select text using the finger. But doing it so, the finger covers the text being selected, making it very difficult and inaccurate :-(
Does CM7 includes the Sense copy/paste style?
Does CM7 includes the Sense magnifying glass for easier cursor placement?
Thanks in advance.
(*)= In my opinion this is a HTC serius error.
Nobody with CM7 installed is going to confirm?
I have used both CM7 and the 2.3.3 stock sense. Really the only thing special about the sense copy and paste is the magnifier and the color. Global copy and paste is a new feature in gingerbread. In CM7 the copy paste doesn't magnify, but it isn't a problem to use the copy paste feature because of the "tabs" used to adjust the selection. Instead of sliding on the text the tabs just below it allow you to see what you are selecting.

Hello Hero-Chefs,
on MCR 2.1 and on stock 1.x Hero Rom it is not possible to use the trackball to select text for text copy function (affirmed on two devices).
How to test:
-Open Browser
-Menu->More->Copy text
-mouse pointer is shown and above any text press the trackball
-move trackball -> nothing happens.
The text should be highlighted while you move the trackball and sould be copied when you press the trackball again and Hero should say "Text copied to clibboard".
It works on the Hero device only by moving the finger on the touchscreen. It is supposed to work with trackball as well (as it is on any Hero-Rom on G1, there it WORKS!, any cupcake G1-Rom works as well)
Is it a kernel issue, as far as the Hero files itself in the G1-ported Hero-Roms are not tweaked for G1, as far as I know.
Hard to believe that this "old" cupcake feature on G1 should not work fine on the Hero-devices.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
i tired it in the other thread for you and TBH its a pain in the a%% compared to using your finger................ooeeer missus
the trackball su*ks.. i mean, iphone does not have something like a trackball and its intuitive to use also.. whatever ;-)
Agree that it would be useful. Think its an inherent hero trackball issue though. In the game "breaktheblocks" you are supposed to be able to set the ball off using the trackball but this doesn't work either. Reckon this is related, ie the hero handles the trackball button differently to the g1.
Interesting i suppose it is a kernel fixable issue. Wonder if htc has sth like an open bugtracker greetings
we need a patch for this...it's a prior bug, i think!
yes, i can copy text with the finger (zooming a lot) but it's difficult to get it at first try
i've try the same function on a htc magic (where the cursor selection works) and it's perfect to do this job:
chose select text -> move on the start -> click -> adjust on the end -> click
it's needful for the page where you can't zoom (gmail and other mobile optimized site)
...a question: does this happen also on orginal rom or only on modded?
I got a modaco rom, if the original is ok i'm going to restore soon!
It also happens on mine with the original rom.
so we hope that htc read this forum...
Hi all,
maybe this has been addressed somewhere already, but I haven't found it.
In stock Eclair there was a "hide" button on the onscreen keyboard. In all of the Sense Froyo ROMs I've used, there is a "change keyboard layout/language" button instead. Now if I want to hide the keyboard (e.g. to access controls that are under it) I have to either push the menu button or click somewhere outside a text control. This approach is rather clumsy, the "hide" button was much more useful.
Is there a way to restore this "hide" button? Or does someone has an apk of the Eclair sense keyboard that would work with Froyo?
Thanks
I think you need to search for HTC ime mod. HTC keyboard for stock android.
Push the back button and the keyboard disappears
I do know what Sigismund83 means and it's quite frustrating, I've only just got used to hiding the Keyboard by using the back button, but I wish there was a quick-hide button like there was prior to upgrading to Froyo. I've even had a dabble in the Android's keyboard, but the keyboard is too tall and when I'm creating an sms, I'd like to read over what I had prior and it's difficult to do so.
Gonna check out HTC IME Mod to see if that's any good.
Actually perfect! I've got it exactly how I want it after a few minutes of faffing about..
Sigismund83, you can download the keyboard from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And the settings I use to make it look like Stock IME are as follows..
I deselected "Show candidates bar" and got rid of the "Smiley hack" within the User Interface by [email protected] and it was perfect.
Hope this helps
Oh and before I forget, if you've got Dropbox, best thing to do is upload the apks there then use the Dropbox app to download and the phone will prompt to install. But if you're not lazy (unlike me), just shove them on the memory card and install with ASTRO.

This sure works too, but I'll look for the apk anyway. I was kinda used to this button (similar was also in WinMo devices). But I might as well change my habits
Worked

You're welcome mate, anytime!

Is there any way to get copy/paste functionality on a non-sense 2.2 rom. Its killing me that I dont have this, really the only thing missing from CM6 and holding me back from it as a daily driver.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Copy/paste should work just fine in CM6. Works for me, anyway.
Just long press on the text you want and you should get the menu with copy/cut options.
Not to hijack this thread, but I've asked elsewhere and there doesn't appear to be a solution but I figured I'd give the inquiry another go...
Is anyone aware of a method to use either a multitouch keyboard or perhaps a specific pinch/zoom gesture to copy/past/cut text on the fly?
I really miss being able to do so easily on my G1's physical keyboard...and highlighting specific text with the trackball.
maybe i am a roflcopter, but I cannot get a copy paste prompt to open after a longpress? Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Where are you trying to copy text from?
I am able to long-press on any text field (SMS, Address Bar, etc.) and get a pop-up menu that includes: Select text, Select all, Cut, Copy, Paste, etc.
I am running CM6 RC1 on my EVO.

You need to menu -> select text.
Swype has a fairly easy-to-use (though not as easy as SenseUI) select text method. Just Swype from the Swype key (the one in the bottom-left corner with the i above the Swype logo) to the SYM key. This will open the third keyboard in Swype; the editing keyboard.
Hi,
I don't like the word prediction on the standard HTC keyboard. If Itype a word that's not in the dictionary, I can either change it to the word the prediction suggests, or insert + save the word I typed in.
the problem is, sometimes I DON'T want the word saved, like it's a one-time-use word. the prediction on the android keyboard was much better; tap the word once to insert, tap another time to save. (but I like HTC keyboard's symbols-handling better)
any way to get this "tap twice to save" on the HTC keyboard too?
btw does anyone have a download link to android keyboard?
edit: oh and is it possible to turn off the "buggy" text reflow in the web browser?
Tap twice to save is not possible afaik with the standard HTC keyboard. However, if you search for the HTC_IME mod by some guy called Jonas, you will find a modded version of the keyboard which you can configure somewhat into the direction you described. Root isn't required for this keyboard btw.
Good luck!

Ok i have a question, is there a APK file that bring back the contextual menu like they have in HTC SENSE ROM? Im running cm6 ROM on my EVO, and notice when you long press in the browser nothing happens. Im wondering if this is only exclusive to the HTC SENSE ROM? Or is there a APK that can restore this? I like how it zoomed into text when long pressed, and there was a copy and paste option i would really like this back if you can in a custom ROM.

First of all, no there isn't an apk you can just install to do what you're asking. Second, to copy and paste on CM6, hit the menu button, more, then select text. you can then select the text you want and it will automatically copy it for you. Then go to wherever you want to paste it and long press on the text box and select paste.

There was no need for you to get rude about it. I simply ask a question and im pretty sure you dont have all the answers, now the copy and paste you talking about is generic and is stock to android, im not talking about pressing menu ta select text, im talking about when you long press over text and it zooms in and highlight what you are trying to copy like how it is in the HTC SENSE STOCK ROM, i simply wanted to know if running a custom rom is that part of contextual menu exclusive to the SENSE ROM or is there a way to restore it in a custom rom.

Quite honestly, I don't believe he was being rude to you at all. You asked and he answered with straight facts. I came across this post because I'm looking for the same thing.
In addition to this, I believe he's right. The contextual menu was an HTC exclusive app that probably required Sense to run it (maybe not), but CM6 will most likely not port it over because it is HTC's software.
You can try looking up Copy Paste It, it's $6 bucks, but it takes a snapshot of what you want in the browser (or any app) and transcribes the text for you to paste in a text box.

But that's the thing, i was just wondering if it was exclusive to the sense rom that's all, but i will look into that app. I just like how the HTC version zoomed into the text while selecting it. or if there was a program that can either be the same or similar.
