[Q] G2 battery life help. i appreciate the help! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a g2 running on cm-6.1.0-vision and my battery life is horrible
Every couple minutes I lose 1%
My brightness is on low, I deleted my stock apps, most of them. I don't have any downloaded apps, I'm doing this as a test to find a good battery life method.
7:48 my battery was 76% - its 10:21 now and I'm at 31%..
What can I do to increase my battery? Thanks
I've been on wifi this whole time, no blue tooth, I uninstalled wifi calling. No gps enabled either

When you look at your battery life page, what is using the most of the battery?
Do you have a backup of stock to go back to and compare?
have you changed your radio at all?
How old is the phone? battery?

How do you change the battery?
My phone is like 2 months oldmy phone is acting weird now
E:can't mount /cache/recovery/log in clockworkmod
I think its messed up real bad
Can u help?

You can change the battery by removing the door on the back and simply pulling out the battery. Do u have a stock backup from before u installed CM6?
If you're having several issues that are potentially software related, you're probably best off returning to a stock ROM to start. What all have u changed on ur phone? Kernel, ROM, radio??

Yeah this thread is obselete until I can fix this g2, I have insurance I might drop it in water so they can't check the os and see its voided so they can send me a new one. Good plan or not full proof?

You don't have to drop it in water rofl. Just unroot and revert back to the stock rom. They'll never know it was rooted.

[Q] How do I brick my phone

I kinda of want to intentionally brick my phone just so sprint would replace it. I have been having some trouble with my evo lately, it just started to reboot so frequently lately. I was running decks 1.2.1 and just thought it was the rom, so i completely wipe everything, reflash and same thing. I noticed when my phone rebooted it would get hot or warm, and gps did not work after flashing decks 1.2.1, trying to use gps would automatically cause the phone to reboot. Any rom with the vision gps drivers would cause phone to reboot when trying to use gps, only gps driver that would work was the cm7 drivers, mainly used the N39 one and that would work and I could use gps, but phone kept rebooting. So then i tried to flash the latest stock rom, but had same problem. Also tried to use myn's warm rom release 5, which was always so stable in the past and never had any problems with when i was using it in the past, but yea phone just would reboot at random when phone would get warm or just doing stuff. Then i flashed the latest radio, pri, nv, and hboot. Went back to decks but its very frustrating, i can not use my phone for a long time or it warms up and goes into a bootloop, then have to pull the battery and give it a couple minutes to cool down before i can pop the battery back in and have it not reboot immediately afterwards. So after all this i was just gonna try and brick it to see if i could get another evo, but yea i tried to flash a radio and battery pull but that did not work. Did i screw myself by flashing the latest hboot?
Why don't you flash a stock rom. See if it still does it and then go to sprint and tell them all the problems you're having
We're comin from a pure power source.
That's insurance fraud dude, cause everyone's prices to go up. Don't be that guy.

I did try a stock rom and it kept happening. That is why I was trying to brick it so they would just exchange it. If I take it to sprint I would need to flash a RUU right? Then deal with sprints b.s. until they exchange it.
I've never had a problem getting my phone replaced. You have problems with your phone. They will replace it. And yes, the ruu will return it to stock.

How is it insurance fraud? My phone is not working properly, I have been paying an insurance charge on my plan since the launch of the evo. Don't want to deal with their very annoying employees and just want a replacement, is that too much to ask for?

That will definitely brick it.
It sounds like a hardware issue. Sprint will replace it. Don't brick your phone, not worth it.
RUU to the latest update. Get S-On (there are a few threads with tutorials). Try to document your phone acting up if you can (I had an overheating issue with my old phone so I took screenshots of an app showing my phone 135+ degrees. Reboots, maybe video it, I don't know.)

Returning to stock

To those of you who may not have followed my previous thread, I recently had a problem with my Inc2 only being able to charge while turned off. I had to ask for a replacement under warranty, meaning the defective unit needs to be sent back. Long story short, I was able to restore the stock ROM on the defective one, but unable to restore the stock bootloader, meaning it is now on the stock ROM, but with S-off. Do you guys think whoever at Verizon is responsible for checking phones sent back under warranty will notice this or even care?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA
Of course it is possible they will see and care, but I think it is more than likely they will not notice or care. I have heard of many people returning phones (even back to my Eris days) with a stock ROM on an s-off device without a problem.
Good luck!

All they really look for is water and physical damage. There are so many launchers out there that they usually have no idea. Unless you get the guy who also roots and flashes. Then they usually just flash back to original. I still recommend to always restore your stock backup at the very least.

I am in the same boat - except mine is barely even charging when it's off and not charging at all on. My usb port on the phone is all screwed up - I cannot even mount it. I called verizon and they are sending a replacement. I have 5 days from when I get the replacement to return the old one.
I still had a backup of my original Verizon Rom so I flashed it (thank goodness I was able to do it with barely any battery).
All the processes to get S-ON back seem to require the USB port and a good amount of battery power. I have neither. I will keep searching but it looks like i will be sending it back with just the stock ROM and S-ON.
The agent said that they "need to verify that your phone has not had any physical or liquid damage. As this is not covered under the warranty. You will need to send back your defective phone to the warehouse."
So technically I do not have that kind of damage - I will report back the outcome - wish me luck!
Good luck!

Once you get your replacement, you can always use that to charge up the battery, swap it back into your broken phone and do what you can.
As far as the adb commands necessary to replace the boot loader, I don't think anyone had confirmed if this works or not, but you CAN initiate an adb connection over WiFi. There are apps on the market that'll switch between USB and WiFi for adb.
But it's probably not worth the hassle, just get a stock rom on it and they'll probably never notice.

So I got the replacement phone (s-on ) and, powered up the battery and used it on the old phone. I factory reset the phone but since it was rooted, I had "Superuser" in there as an app and couldn't remove it. That was the only thing that was giving me a little hesitation about sending it back.
Downloaded Terminal Emulator and manually removed superuser, did another factory reset and Superuser is gone. Have FastBoot checked on in the Settings so unless they actually go into the phone and change that, they won't boot into the bootloader or see the s-off revolutionary.
Phone is going in the mail today
Update:
Got a text message from Verizon yesterday: The defective device has been received by Verizon.
and no charge or any notice that it breached the warranty/contract!
USB issues as well unless I get the device at the correct angle. A pain, but used the directions and links from the youtube link to get my DInc2 back to stock and S-On. A pain to angle things right but worth it to me knowing I'm going in with no potential "threats".
Gotta wait the 3-5 days now...
EDIT::
In case people are wondering, my DInc2 was rooted using revolutionary method and it worked flawlessly.

i wanna take my phone into sprint..but

battery is horrible, connection to internet/facebook app on fd19 sucks, reception sucks..but odin counts at like 4..
instead of buying the jig.. last time i bricked my phone they couldnt even access odin or nething it just kept staying in a boot. and i just told them my phone told me to update the firmware and i didnt feel like waiting for it to finish so i turned it off and it bricked.. and they were cool and gave me a new phone.. so my question is how can i brick my phone so they cant see the odin screen..or should i just buy the usb jig and flash back to stock?n and what even is the latest stock?

They don't care if it's rooted but having had a custom ROM on it they don't like. And it seems like they've been getting pickier the last 6 months or so. It's always hit or miss doing that. Just spend the couple bucks on a jig.

Yea, imo its not worth trading one of the best devices on the market.. if you're not getting very good battery life on a certain setup, just flash back to blazer4.1
As far as the reception goes, why would a different phone get you better reception in the same area? You would think that if your epic touch gets poor reception, all others would be in the same boat, no?

to brick, try to odin any rom, but make sure u click the re-partition box near the upper left. It won't show any progress. After a minute or so, just unplug it. Voila! Blue Light Special (All you get when u try to turn it on is the blue LED. Nothing ever comes up on the screen)

[Q] Problem with SOD? PLEASE HELP

So here's my story...
I hated the new ICS official update that sprint rolled out because of my diminishing battery life. So i decided to finally root the phone and install some roms. Everything went well for the past week but now my phone screen flickers and then my phone shuts off when i still have around 80% battery life left. I try to turn it back on and it loads up the boot screen but sometimes it fully loads the phone and sometimes it doesn't. When it does load ... my battery life is chopped to like 20% or maybe 5%. I calibrated my battery after the flash like someone told me to do but it still didn't work. I thought it was the rom i was using but I flashed 3 different roms and I still have the same problem.
I'm wondering if it's something wrong with my battery or my power on my phone? When the phone is charging it doesn't flicker and shut down on me.
Did anybody else have this problem? Is this considered a SOD? Wondering if I should get a new battery and see if it works. Also... is your battery flat? Mine seems to be a curved a bit in the middle back and front and i don't remember it being like that.
THANKS FOR THE HELP PEOPLE!!!! I really need it

Your experiencing a condition that's clearly battery related, while phone is plugged in it clearly shows that the problem is the battery. Making changes and undervolting may just complicate things, I would wait for a new battery before going any further.
You need a proven rom to start with, ask around and see what works for others and give yourself a fresh start. I would recommend going back to stock gingerbread el29,and trying it out for a week or so, then go from there.

Will do. Just ordered a battery. Hopefully it is a battery issue because I am not due for an upgrade yet. Thanks a lot for your advice!
It's the battery, I have the same issues right now and if I use a different battery they instantly disappear.
And you're right about lowering the power consumption, for me it only happened with 4G enabled together with the capacitive LEDs. Disabling one or the other made it go away.

Why 'Android System' singly drains my battery so extremely fast?

Hi guys
I have HTC One M8. Android System drains my battery in an unbelievable way. I decide to know the reason. So, I did a reset factory and charged it 100% and then I powered it on and only after 6 min while the screen all of the time was off, the battery got 98%. In the following, I turned off the screen again and incredibly after 21 min without any usage the battery got 94%.
I really don't use the phone and the battery drains such this. Just guess what happen if I turn on screen and use it?!!! I really confused. I took 2 shot. Pls check them out. Android System Singly uses up to 90% of the whole usage.
(When I charge my father's G3 the battery is 100% after 5 min using wifi! Still no 99%!)

is that happens after you flashed a rom and let it settled ?
you should measure the battery life after one day or more from flashing to make sure it's the right measurement after the cash cycle is done

No. I'm on stock clean ROM
All begins to happen from last week.
I felt the battery drains faster than ever.
It was being more and more.
Yesterday, I do a reset factory to get rid of the problem.
But as I explained already I have it yet.
It seems I face with a faulty battery, doesn't it?
Is there any other related reason?
I forgot to add that the phone become very hot. Even in a very essential/primitive/normal usage. In an unprecedentedly way ...

I said before that I reset the phone to factory state and didn't install any third party app.

I tried this calibration apps, no difference

Currently, I'm on a custom ROM; I'm just trying another.
I can return to stock and take some shot, if you think it helps.
Next plan is installing a CyanogenMod ROM.
If It occurred again I buy a new battery instantly.

first you post screenshots from a custom rom then when i ask about the cache cycle you said you were completely stock then you said you are on custom rom and tried to recalibrate the battery with an app (witch i believe it do nothing ) and probably you didn't read the threads i linked and didn't gave us any useful info to understand the situation so we can help
the last thing before buying a new battery run the appropriate RUU for your device and see how it's going
GOOD LUCK

I have some good reasons why I said you I'm on stock when you ask me for the first time. Yeah! I remember!
I tested both before posting on XDA and the result was same. Mr.Ismael I certainly sure if I said I'm on CUSTOM you picked on CUSTOM ROMs and blamed it.
For this reason, I said I'm on stock in order to skip that MISTAKE IDEA that the custom ROM causes the problem
Just because getting rid of this mistake. No other reason.
