I'm looking for a decent text editor for the WinMo platform. Microsoft Word just doesn't cut it and I need something that can open and save multiple file formats.
What's the best text editor around?
Total Commander maybe?
Yeah, that'll do. However, the editor closes when rotating the Touch HD 90 degrees using Gyrator. It goes back to the directory list in Total Commander.
EDIT: SOLUTION - Go into TC, rotate the device in directory view, then open TC editor. Just don't rotate it any which way, or the editor automatically closes.
Yes i agree total commander

Hey stylez I'll do it for you so you don't have to repeat yourself again
I'll even narrow it down for HTCP4000PPC.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.Use total commander and browse to your windows folder and scroll down to Short_IE.Ink click file then edit and enter (19#"\windows\iexplore.exe") just as you see it here without the parenthesis then click file then click save and your good to go. hope this helps
2.If you dont have total commander I just figured out how you can do it with Resco Explorer - browse to windows folder, scroll down to Short_IE.Ink click Action scroll to open then to open with and scroll down to notepad click done it will open in notepad edit per above post save it and your good to go or you can bypass Resco Explorer all together and just use notepad and browse to file and edit. one of these should get you what you want.
How am i to get the oppossite of / on my S621 ?
If anyone can tell me how to get the opposite of / be great then i can fiction my IE key shortcut, Thanks.

SYM key has the camera on it will bring up all symbols, you can also edit the shortcut on computer with notepad if you wish.
Anyone got a drag and drop file explorer that works on WVGA touch screen? Think this would be brilliant on the Touch HD and make file navigation so much better.
Ideally I'd want the double tap to open, option to highlight by dragging over icons and then drag while holding pen down, a bit like on windows but using the stylus rather than the mouse.
Any ideas?
Think this is what you are looking for, Total Commander, brilliant app

Hi Radeon,
Yes, Total Commander is very good but it does not do the drag and drop which I would like.
Any ideas of ones that suppor drag and drop?
edit---
Hmm, it does do drag and drop, but just not in the Windows Directory. Wonder why that is?
Just seen Resco explorer 2008, might have a look at this...
Resco Explorer doesn't have it either, don't think theres a explorer that works the way you mention.
Hi im already using the programs tab for my favourite programs on touch flow, is there anyway to add an extra programs tab so i can put my favourite games on??
ive just joined the touch hd world coming from the xperia and am loving it!!
Thanks
Hi,
I don't have answer for your precise question (new tab) and that's true it would be good to have more programm tabs.
Nevertheless, I used a trick to make appear an "game" icon in TF3D programm tab that opens the game folder with Resco Explorer.
1 use Total commander to make a shortcut of the game folder (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games)
2 rename thins games.lnk to games.sho (example)
3 edit games.sho properties with Total commander (long press, properties)
- in general tab uncheck system/hidden
- in the other tab (sorry I have a french ROM so I don't have the english wording)
* cammand = \Program Files\Resco Explorer\Explorer.exe
* parameters = \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games
* icone file = shellres.dll,-8229 (to have the game folder icon)
4 add this file in your TF3D programm tab the normal way (it must appear in the applications list)
5 when you press the icon, your game folder will open in Resco Explorer.
6 you can configure Resco Explorer to look exactly like when you open the window programs/games
You can do the same for any folder but you have to change the file extention for each now one. I did it with the IE shortcuts folders and now I have an icon in programm tab that opens me a window with my web shortcuts and I just have to press one to open the link. It's a shame that Resco Explorer can not be skinned because we could have make it look like a TF3D programm tab rather than a Windows program tab.
Hello,
I test file explorer in omina and I find that I can simply tap on the
screen and select multiple files.
but in TP2 taping on the screen and moving the finger doesn't
do the same function as it do in omnia.
Is it some thing that HTC disable it?
how can I enable this function in TP2?
Thanks
+1 I would also like to know this as well. How can we select a file, cab or whatever just to select or highlight it without actually opening it? This is what I use to use the d-pad for on my previous devices, was to select or highlight files.
Example: I want to delete a cab file from my device, How do I highlight it without the cab file opening? I am sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but I just haven't figured it out yet. Since this is my fist device without a dpad.
*edit* Nevermind, brain fart. I know, just to tap and hold the file or cab for delete, copy, paste and highlight.
+1 but generally speaking, selecting multiple files as well. I did find that the soft keyboard has arrow keys that you can use to navigate the way the d-pad did on previous devices. Not as quick but the functionality is there. Had the same issue with threaded SMSs and needing to scroll through so I could forward certain messages. I hope this helps.
The new TF3D seems to have lost this function. You have to go to menu, Select multiple files, then tap to select/unselect the ones you want.
Tedious I know!

Sorry, getting confused with items in the message interface.
(BTW, MENU is bottom right soft button in File Explorer)
Yup, you are correct, there is no multiple select in the standard Win File explorer anymore due to the dumb TF3D replacement pop-up menu!
On all other Menu's there is a multiple item selection mode, even on Resco Explorer.
Looks like some bright spark at HTC forgot to add it to the File Explorer menu as touch selection is disabled it in the registry in preference to scrolling with the stylus!
I use Resco myself so never noticed...
I know this does not answer your question but I suggest you really consider an alternative to MS explorer.
Resco Explorer selects multiple files by sliding over the icons and scrolls when touch flowing over the file names.
Further more you can enable a double tap setting to open a file so you can select a single file by tapping it once without opening the file.
Include the finger friendly text size, bookmarks feature etc etc together it makes Resco to one of the best if not THE best explorer for WM. Just my 2 cents...
[email protected],
Why don't you just open the device's hardware keyboard and select multiple files by holding down the SHIFT button and using the arrow keys?
Laszlo
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch]
"Disabled"=dword:00000001
Softreset. Now you may easy select multiple files using the stylus.
i always use the total commander (cab) it is easy and straigt
and u have a lot of more options.

IMO, well worth the money... even over the free file explorers & reg editors out there.
I have been searching and searching to no avail.
There has got to be some way to remap the "Launch Browser" button on the Manila "Browser" tab to launch the browser program of your choice?
I know I can select Skyfire as my default browser and it will launch with other programs... but I would like that same browser to launch when I push the big button on the Manila tab.
Seriously... there has got to be a way... anyone?
I found where someone else posted this in the HTC Diamond forums in responce to this same question about a year ago. I haven’t had the opportunity to try to confirm this as a work around:
All you need to do is to modify a file named “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” which is located in \Application Data\Manila. Use the freeware application Total Commander to navigate to this file and once you locate it press the pen/paper icon on the bottom of the page and that will open the file on the screen so you can edit it.
Once the file is open in Total Commander just add one of the following lines after the line <InternetPortal> which is towards the top:
Opera is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>\mobile\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
Internet Explorer is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
SkyFire is:
<BrowserExe>\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Iris is:
<BrowserExe>\program files\iris browser\irisbrowser.exe</BrowserExe>
I installed Opera Mobile 9.5 beta to my storage card, so my new path is:
<BrowserExe>\storage card\program files\opera
*Note if you can't save your changes - make sure that the file isn't set on "read only" (click the hand holding the paper icon and uncheck the "read only" box. You may have to click twice to remove the setting)
As I would be looking at going to Skyfire, I’m guessing my path would look something like this: <BrowserExe>\Storage Card\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Again, I haven’t tested this yet (I'm at work), but looking at the information posted in the .xml, it does appear to control/direct what happens when that Launch Browser button is pushed. Whether or not other files also have an effect, and what these changes would effect, are yet unconfirmed (as I saw no replies after that post).
There are however other commands in that .xml file that I'm not sure how they effect things and I would love a second opinion.
you can go into the registry and navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER and change the path in line number 1 to lead to whatever browser that you want to use and then change the name in line number 0...hope this helps!!

I know how to change the "default browser" that other programs (mail, Twitter etc) launch via hyperlink. That's easy.
Setting another browser as the default browser however DOES NOT CHANGE Opera from launching from the "Launch Browser" button on the Browser tab in Manila. I want this button and tab to launch a different browser as well.
Still haven't sat down and tried the method I posted above... but I'll report back if I can get it to work.
I've found this in a few places too... unfortunatly... nither the directory nor the file exist in this version. I even had it searching hidden & system files to no avail. Am looking for alternatives.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548770
Also, here is item 4 from that thread. It appears you can have what ever browser you want to launch from the "Globe". But it does not effect the bookmarks you have set in the Manilla browser tab. I need it to launch these as well in my selected browser. BTW I have done the tweaks here, and can confirm they do work. I have 6 of my own bookmarks on the browser tab. And I got rid of the globe, didn't need it.
But I am still using Opera 9.5. I really want to be able to make this work with the book marks cause once Fenec is released I will be using that instead.
4) Remove the line <BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
This will now launch the lower left Bookmarks and lower right browser in Opera. (this is only possible, if you have already edit the registry in the previous tutorial)
Replacing the tag <BrowserExe>\Window\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe> with <BrowserExe>\Windows\Opera9.exe</BrowserExe> only launches the "Earth" tab in Opera but the tabs will not be launched at all, not even in IE. Don't know why this happens. You can even edit the Banner tag so that it doesn't go to the web2go website by modifying the NavigateUrl to "" or whatever you want

Unfortunately, as I had said in my other post, neither the file referenced nor the path are on my device. It has got to be buried elsewhere. I just need to know where.

You don't mention what device, exactly you have (carrier variant). Or which ROm you have (stock or some cooked version like 6.5)

Are you referring to the "IternetPortal-en-US.xml” file?
I'm looking at it right now on my Verizon CDMA TP2.
As for the other tweak... glad to hear Im on the right track. Cant wait till Im home and can do some file editing on the laptop. I don't use the bookmarks on the Launch Browser page very often, so I feel that I'm very close to having a solution for this issue. Now I just need to arrange the free time to give it a shot.
