Hey guys,what's up?
So...I am running AuraxTSense 8.0 on my phone and have made an ext4 about 600Mb partition for Apps2SD.Recently I installed Pocket Legends on my phone along with some other games and all was ok.However, yesterday I tried to update Pocket Legends from the Market and it said that there is limited space on my phone and it cannot update.I then checked in my settings and I had 23 Mb free on my phone.I tried moving all apps to SD with Titanium Backup(excluding Launchers and widgets) and it persists that I only have that much space. What is going on?
Also, when choosing to install apps on external storage in Spare Parts, does it mean Apps2SD+ partition or froyo Apps2SD?

Yeah,I know.You're using the data2SD thing.I've seen you in that thread.Bastard!
I however am using the good old apps2ext,with an ext4 partition. What about that?
Thanks for the reply btw!
I've been having much the same problem.
It would seem that no matter how many apps I move to the SD card, I don't actually get all that more free space on the phone.
A 'df' in the terminal shows me that I've got plenty of space in /system, but /data is nearly full. Nearly half of that is in /data/dalvik-cache.
So I wiped the dalvik cache from recovery and now it's okay again.. for the time being.
Maybe PocketLegends requires a lot of space in /data? Or something was wrong with the update?
ok guys heres the deal, when you use apps2sd what is does is create a symlink between /data/app/, the dalvik-cache and the ext partition on your sd card. the downside of this method is, /data/data/ remains on your phone, /data/data. holds all your settings, app data and other things, and this is where your space is going, one great way for s-off users to improve there situations, is to change the MTD Partitions on there device, basically taking space from /system and /cache and adding this to /data, you can reclaim and extra 50mb+ using this method
Thanks for explaining, AndroHero.
Right now, I have it set with 250 MB /system, 147 MB /data and 40 MB /cache.
I suppose if I'm running out of space on /data but not on /system, then I could repartition again.

if your really stingy with /system and remove all the htc apps and widgets you dont use, you can get /system down to 170-180mb that would give you 70-80mb of space back, heres another good tip, there is no point having flash player in /system as its always going to be updated, if you remove installflashplayer.apk from /system/app/ and the associated libflashplayer.so in /system/lib/, that gives you and extra 15mb straight away

You should refrain from making a partition bigger than 2GB for DATA2SD. Issues have been reported, specially with market.
Read thoroughly the DATA2SD thread to gather all informations
I have been having nothing but problems with A2SD I decided to partition my EXT3 to 2GB and at first installed leedroid and have since moved to OxygeN both obviously show only around 120mb when I start phone I understand this. It doesn't show A2SD so I install quick system info that says I have 1.99GB A2SD storage. OK move to the future and I have around 14 apps installed and have ran out of space on my phone. internal storage 16.05mb A2SD free 1.85GB the phone is not installing apps to the SD card. It was the same for leedroid and for OxygeN. I have nearly all my A2SD space available. I have no apps moved to SD using Froyo-A2SD. I'm pulling my hair out as my phone refuses to let me download a 700k app from market now..
I tried wiping cache too it upped my free space to 17mb.

No I read thats a bad idea as it can cause problems?
EDIT - Tried it and now I have 97mb free.. AWESOME so far no probs will update if I have any more. Also noticed though when I backed up before adding the mod it had some games/apps in the devlik cache i no longer have installed? Any way I can remove them? Like Skype etc..
A2SD was the reason for me to root...tryed arround diff ROMs...had the same prob like u...then i find my perfect ROM: Acemod007
super fast, stable, super support, and the best: a2sd works perfectly! i have an 2 gb ext4 partition and round 150 apps installed and 200 mb internal free (running CM7r2)!

yep thats why i rooted It's an annoying problem.
To find out, if a2sd+ is working, open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
ls -l /data
In the ouput you should find this
Code:
/app -> /sd-ext/app
/app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
/dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
If you cannot find this, partition your sd card with gparted again (save important data before this):
1.) Create fat32 partition (primary)
2.) Create ext partition (primary)
3.) Flash e.g. oxygen rom
At last, make sure you followed the instructions in leedroid thread step by step in the correct order.
is the code i should write 1 or i ?
Neither nor. It's an "L" in lower case character.

This is the official 2.15.531.3 stock Froyo ROM that has been rooted. You can apply DarkTremor's A2SD after you flash (that's what I did) and move the Dalvik cache to the ext3 partition and gain LOTS of free space, though I recommend using a Class10 microSD card if you do that. This ROM has all the standard apps included and it works great.

I currently do not have a class 10 sd card, what I wanted to know from you was, where can I move Dalvik cache to anywhere except ext3 partition on sd card.
I just want to move the apps on sdcard. When I flash the DT's A2SD, it automatically moves the Dalvik to sdcard too. I have 256mb partitioned sd card from ROM MANAGER, no SWAP. I intalled DT's Apps2SD GUI APP, and there is an option to move DALVIK cache to internal or to cache, but when I try to move to both, it says not enough space?!!!?! A little help with that. Im currently running Salsa Slide, its got really slow, and randomly reboots sometimes.
Thanks for the rom.
Unless you have your heart set on the stock Sense/tmobile bloatware I would check out cyanogenmod. Links are available in the 'android developement' section of the mytouch slide xda menu. It is by far the fastest and most stable rom you can get for this phone.

I don't know what the "Salsa Slide" partitions are like, I've never used it. When I first installed this official rooted ROM, the Dalvik cache was on internal memory and I was left with only about 20mb of available space for apps (not a lot!). I used DT's A2SD to move it to the ext3 partition on my card and then I had over 120mb of available space for apps. And of course, apps get installed in the ext3 partition as well (I think the ext3 partition is about 450MB.
It is worth buying a Class10 card. I first tried it using the Class2 card and the performance was terrible. The Class10 made a HUGE difference.

Hello, Yesterday I rooted and flashed cyanogenmod on my Desire for the first time following this perfect noob proof guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 to the letter and its working perfectly.
I partioned the SD, got 1 GB of Ext4, as the guide did and all that, and I have had this for a day now and after a few apps I am already down to 40 MB internal memory, whats going on? Did I do something wrong?
Regards
You need to move apps and dalvik-cache to EXT4-partition or flash CM7-Hboot via fastboot if you are S-OFF.
Swiftkeyed from ICS with Transparent XDA App
Thank you for your reply but I really have no idea what that means, im a complete newbie... I followed that guide so I am S-OFF. Where is that Hboot I need to flash? Flashing that now will that remove or clear my phone?
Also I checked my phone:
a2sd:
Capacity: 0.96 GB
Used: 67 MB
Free: 0.89 GB
Clearly its in use is it? Or maybe not... :/
Could someone tell me what to do please?
Look for S2E on the Android Market. That will move your apps to your EXT4 partition. Check the selected folders that you wanna moved to the EXT4 partition. Check Applications, Private Apps and Dalvik Cache (optional but recommended if you have a fast sd card). Reboot after configuring. It will take some time to reboot since it'll be transferring your existing app to the EXT4.
Don't mess with your hboot until you fully understand what you are doing. Check http://alpharev.nl to get an idea and read the sticky on the development section for more information.
THank you so much for your reply. One quick question: If I do as you wrote, Check Applications, Private Apps and Dalvik Cache, will the future apps I install be installed to the Ext4 drive or do I need to do this every time I install new apps etc?
Also I havent messed with my Hboot, I just followed that guide, and one step was to download that alpharev cd and turn S-Off, nothing else.
Thanks again!
As long as you have Cyanogenmod set to install apps to the Internal, you'll be fine and apps will be moved to EXT4 automatically.
Go to Settings>CM7 Settings>Application>Install Location>Internal
The thing to keep in mind here is while using S2E (or any scripts that do the same) is that the EXT4 partition acts as an extension of your internal memory. Although you aren't going to see your phone's internal memory increase in size.

To make full use of your 1GB ext4 you need a Rom with data2sd , data2ext , xd2sdx. Your using app2sd+ witch dont fully move all app data to sd ext4, say you download a 20mb app 15mb would go to ext4 and the other 5mb would still be on real internal.
Using a Rom with data2ext ect put the ext4 partition has your internal storage showing you 1GB and all app data will go there.
Worked perfectly, thank you so much, now I can get more then 5 apps installed!
I dont really care about the numbers, aslong its on the ext4 and I can install the apps
Thank you for your assistance.
I'm interested in trying this too. Right now I have oxygen with darktremors installed, but would switch back to cm7 if this would give me more space for apps. If I do a nandroid backup and restore, will the apps that had been moved to the sd card be restored properly?

So the reason that my data storage is looking like this, could be because I'm running MIUI which uses A2SD not fully moving my apps?
Because I already moved everything I was able to move with s2e.
The link doesn't seem to work because I'm new: This is what it was showing:
Data: used 89 % (used 132 MB, free 15 MB)
ext: used 6 % (used 32 MB, free 440 MB)
cache used 2% ((used 1MB, free 38 MB)
Denobe, what app are you using to give you those stats? I'd like to check my system too.

The app is called FreeSpace.
I have the same problem with the Revolution 3.0
I have installed the data++ version but i am not sure ifi need to do something else with the hboot (i did the s-off but nothing else).
What could be wrong?

You can do it with pretty much every ROM which supports cm7r2 hboot + a2sd solution. (apps + dalvik on SD)
Or basically any ROM with int2ext+ though it has some impact on performance.

@k3lcior: I do not understand the difference between a2sd (apps + dalvik) and int2ext+. They both would free up the same amount of space I guess. Is the diff in internal implementation? Is there a diff in performance?
A2sd + dalvik2sd only moves apps and dalvik cache to sd-ext, leaving data on internal, therefore being faster.
Int2sd+ mounts sd-ext as /data, and moves all data to sd, being slower, depending on your sd-card. Usually class 4 or above cards recommended here.

It is dalvik cache that impacts performance. Whether you leave app-data on internal or no matters not.

Yea...but still, int2sd+ is slower.
Almost every rom can do that. Latest rom based on oxygen like Nikez have all on ext except data, so you have 2 GB internal memory if proper pre-configured, no need to move anything to SD just install them and don`t touch. how to do that:
To enable Apps2Sdext and/or Data2SdExt visit Settings|Applications|Development. ((((My suggestion is don`t enable Data2SdExt! that can be slow)))
To set the default installation partition go to Settings|Applications. (set SD-EXT) If you already installed some soft just wait on next boot until phone move them to ext...
To move applications from sd-ext|sdcard|internal Settings|Applications|Manage Applications.
There is no Dalvik2SdExt because .dex will follow the location of the apk, so if you install an application on sd-ext the dex will be on sd-ext, the same applys for internal or sdcard.
Do not use A2sd scripts.
and yes widgets, launchers and all can be installed to SDEXT....
Than use some app to disable programs you don`t want to start on boot or you memory will be low after you install 100+ apps..
When you do all that you can have easy 250+ apps with no memory lag in your phone. Just don`t install too many resident background programs like FB, Whatsup Viber etc, than your battery will be drained in ~24 hours... Install just what you need, but games you can install like unlimited

Nikez's JB rom is not based on Oxygen. The only thing Oxygen and that rom have in common is that they are both made on a computer.
ok. got it.. What is int2ext+ then? I did get a class 10 card to try these things out, but various threads give differing opinions about what is best.
Is there a consensus?

What I meant is.. is there consensus on whether to use a2sd, int2sd+, int2ext+, etc... There seem to be so many ways to save space.
Every script does a different thing. It depends on how much space you need.
Roms from Droidzone have many internal memory!
