App2Sd Causes phone to not boot. HELP!!!

Hi I just rooted my phone using a method from another website ( not sure if i can post the website as that is xda-developers policy.. )
It rooted fine and it loaded back and i could use my phone.
Then I try to install app sd, i follow a guide to the letter, and once it rebooted it just gets stuck at the htc white screen. I've been waiting for 10 minutes and nothing loads. Is it bricked? I can still go into bootloader or whatever but how do i get it back? Is it the SD card?
I'm using a 8GB sdhc card Kingston Class 4. If it has to do with anything. What do i do? I really need to use the phone!!!

What rom did you install?
Does the rom you have not already have Apps2SD integrated? (check thread title of rom and change log notes to find out)
Are you able to get into Recovery Mode?
If you did not flash a Froyo only (not Sense UI) rom, did you forget to partition your SD card before rebooting?

i install whatever rom that came with the package of rooting from android.modaco.com. I don't knwo what it is but i'm guessing its some 2.1 rom.
No i think the roms was used jsut for rom, so i dont' think app2 sd is integrated. I am able to get into recovery mode, but don't know what to do it from there.
I actually partition the sd card and did the ext2 to et 3 and after it finished i rebooted and it just get stuck on this screen. What i did now is install a custom rom on it and it boots. However I want to load back just the htc rom that came with the root package and add Apps 2 SD

On MoDaCo, there should be an option to download a custom 2.1 based rom that already includes A2SD in the downloads section. Try downloading that rom, in Recovery Mode, do a full wipe, flash the rom, and while still in Recovery Mode, partition your SD card with 0 MB swap, ext2 size of 512 MB, rest to FAT32. Then convert ext2 to ext3.
If you still have the same issue, report back here bud.
Just make sure it is a 2.1 based rom that you are attempting to flash with A2SD. If it is a 2.2 Froyo based rom without Sense, then you do not partition your SD card at all as it is setup differently.

does your sd card have an ext partition? if your using an apps2sd with a dalvik cache script, your fone wont boot without a ext partiton because your fone has nowhere to put the dalvik cache lol

Thank to the two of you for your help. I was planning to use 2.1 as I only wanted a2Sd because i ran out of space very easily installing apps and games.
Anyways i wipe and install the official froyo sense one from adamg from here in the desire forums. Now i'm confused, he saids he has google's app2 sd, legacy app2 sd, and davlik cache app2 sd..
Can u guys explain the differences? What is app 2 sd+ ??
I understand google's one is the one that comes with froyo that it only works if the developers of the games and apps code it in, or else it wont' move to the sd card. Legacy is the one which uses the ext3 partition ( which i still have btw.. ) but i don't know how to use that one even though its already preinstalled. I have no idea about davlik cache except that i had to clear it before i install app2sd.. and i'm in the blind for a2sd+ ...

I read somewhere minimum class of sd should be 6 for apps2sd. Also had a freeze once, i panicked then took battery out, went into recovery and just re-installed ROM and it worked after that.

@Supergluey basically, a2sd just moves the apps, while a2sd+ also moves the dalvik cache.
The Froyo implementation is pretty lame (only moves apps if allowed by creator) and is best ignored.
If your rom comes with the legacy a2sd (not Froyo native) then you can partition your sd card in Recovery Mode by setting a 0 MB swap size, an ext2 size (dedicated for apps) of 512 MB, and remaining space to the FAT32 file system (mass storage space).
You then convert ext2 to ext3 while still in Recovery Mode.
Explanation about how Dalvik cache works: when Android OS starts up, the DalvikVM looks through all of your applications (.apk files) and frameworks, and builds a tree of dependencies. It uses this dependency tree to optimise the bytecode for every application and stores it in the Dalvik cache. The applications are then run using the optimised bytecode. This is why when you install a new ROM, sometimes it takes a very long time to boot for the first time. Any time an application (or framework library) changes, it's re-optimised and the cache is updated.

Thanks MasDroid. I get the differences now. But i have a problem. So like my last post I install the official froyo rom that is posted on here by AdamG. I loved it cause its based off some hong kong test rom and i'm in HK However, he added more features to it such as the apps to sd (not the froyo one ) and davlik cache app to sd.
I formatted my 8GB with the swap file , fat 32 and ext 2 converted to ext 3 respectively to the sizes you stated. However whenever i install apps it still goes to the internal memory! I tried different partitions and it still doesn't' work! I tried wiping everything and re-flashing the rom and it doesn't' work. I also tried forcing it to install to external but all apps just fails to install. I tried reformat and remove all partitions and re partition again once through recovery mode and another through the android sdk and using adb. Is it the sd card problem?
When i first rooted my phone, with defrost and then later changing to devillian. It worked. Apps were installed on sd card but i changed roms because i found out it was dragging the internal memory as well. So i would still gt the "I have no space" message. What can I be doing wrong?

Definitely not true.
I use Apps2SD on my 16gb Sandisk Class 2 card and never have any lag whatsoever.

guys, how can i move my dalvik-cache to my sd card?
my rom rom supports a2sd+ but for some reason it's still in the phones internal memory.

which ROM do you have... and was A2SD+ part of the ROM, or sth you added?
I think I read somewhere that some A2SD+ implementations don't move the Dalvik cache over to SD. The (easiest) method to add dalvik to SD likely depends on the A2SD implementation.

Use S2E , download it from Market.

The a2sd script in Cool's AceS v1 does move the dalvik cache to the sd card, so most likely the card isn't formatted correctly. I suggest you use gparted or a similar tool to format your card like this: first the FAT partition, then the ext 2/3 one (note that some roms require you to have an ext 4 partition, but this is not the case of AceS; anyway, make sure you read the thread thoroughly before flashing). Also, make sure the ext partition is no larger than 2048 MB (i.e. 2 GB), since you might experience market problems. Swap is not used by most roms you'll want to flash these days, so don't worry about it too much, unless the thread mentions so.
Just to mention, S2E is only for cyanogen mod, as it's stated in the app's description, so don't use it with other roms (which have other a2sd scripts). Also, before formatting, don't forget to backup your data

I have a desire with Ginger sense ROM.

Link2sd is free on the market. Uses ext and fat partitions. I have link2sd on my Kyocera Zio m6000 which only has a total of 180mb in data and I have 137mb free. Link2sd allows you to create a symbolic link for app data dalvik-cache and lib files of the app you want to move to SD. Plus with the symbolic links you get to keep your Widgets.

Dalvik Cache will take up space on "Internal storage" by default on some A2SD + ROMs, but it can be moved
You can move this by running "terminal emulator" from the market and typing:

[Q] Abit Of Help Please...

Am using Leedroid App2SD+ ROM and have 1gb ext with 756MB free, i have lots of apps installed but now my phone is showing low memory 15MB, so I have moved alot of the apps to SD card to try free up abit, but its not freeing up phone memory its still staying at 15MB.
Why wont all apps just use the ext? how do I get free phone memory back up again.

All apps have to use internal /data/data folder to store libraries etc. So if you need more storage read about data2sd.

Because if you have A2SD+, then Move to SD in the application manager has no effect (apps are already on the SD Card).
Try running a cache cleaner, maybe too much cache. Possibly a2sd+ is not working properly?
I never had that much low space on LeeDroid when I was using it (had 55 apps of my own installed).

I read something about a memoryleak in flash what could cause the problem.

You can also move dalvik-cache to sd to free about 40MB internal memory.
Simply download terminal emulator from market, and then put su and a2sd cachesd or cachesdreset (it removes old dalvik cache from internal memory) commands.

Oh yeah it does. It ruins everything you were supposed to get with a2sd+.

Read better next time. It was regarding random access memory and not the internal storage memory.

He has a2sd+ with Leedroid. a2sd+==dalvik on the ext.

Remember that you will lost your apps! Backup them by Titanium Backup (I don't think that backup and recovery by nandroid it is best solution if you are messing with symlinks and /data partition).

I have made my mind up am changing rom, just ordered 16gb class 4 PNY sd card.
going to use starburst ROM, if Leedroid end up fully supporting data2sd ill go back because I love that ROM

I never had any issues like yours when I used Lee droid A2SD and had installed a lot of apps. Just make sure that you have not moved the apps in the app manager to the SDCard as this only movers them out of the Ext partition and in to the FAT32 partition.
I would give Leedroid another shot with your new SDCard.

I think I have just filled it lol got 75 apps but most of them are games big files, ill give starburst a go liking the sound of this ROM and if its true I should never fill the memory, if it not good ill go back to leedroid but start fresh format everythink.
With my old partition I did make it on windows like, so maybe thats whats happened, I am going to use gparted next time.

Now I've flashed a couple of ROM's (Oxygen, Redux and CM7) but have no idea how I can put apps on it
Additional question:
1) if you do a data, cache/dalvik wipe will the apps on the ext4 partition also be deleted or will they remain on it so you can reuse them in another ROM
2) I've rooted and s-offed my stock rom, can I use the partition I've created here as well? and if so, how?

on all 3 roms youve mentioned you tried, app2sd is automstically setup on rom install. so you are already using app2sd.
1. yes if you wipe dsata, it wipes your apps on ext 4 partition
2. and yes, your aready using your partition once your using a app2sd rom. specific roms allow you to push your dalvik cache to your partition but it is not reccommended as it can slow donw your phone.

extra test: I've installed Leedroid with app2sd
when I install an app from the market my internal memory decreases and I cannot move it to SD card
I've created a 500mb partition, should this be visible as "internal memory"?

Nope. But if you download "Quick system info" from the market, you will see where it's written A2SD your external partition and its used space.

If you are like me and want to install lots of apps app2sd is not good enough sorry I was on Leedroid superb ROM but I soon ran out of install memory because even if you move app2sd say you have 20mb app and move it to SD it will move like 16mb to SD and 4mb will still be on phone.
Best way is Data2SD I use startburst and have 2gb ext4 and my phone thinks it has 2gb internal memory
Make sure you backup and have a SD card class 4 and above some say class 2 fine I dont think so.

[Q] Memory and Ram Issue on InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1

I recently installed InsertCoin's CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1, after installing my internal memory has become really low and i only get 120mb of ram when i got 220mb on the official 2.2. I have partitioned my sd card using gparted. I made a normal fat32 and a EXT4. Do i need to make a EXT3 partition? also how would i know if the apps are on my sd card since i cannot move them manually with application manager. Please can you help me. Thanks

And no u dont need ext3 just ext4
If u wanna know if ur apps goes to ur ext4 in ur sd card
Go to market search quick sysktem info pro
U will notice A2SD PARTITION label under basic info
It will tell u how much used and how much free
Dont get mad of free 120 mb i have 87 app installed
All workes fine

How big ist your ext 4 Partition?

i made a 2gb etx4 partition using gparted. I think the apps are going on to the ext4 partition from the memory reading on System Info but im still getting low memory notification

i read somewhere that i might need to move dalvik cache to sd. do i need to do this. i have not done anything other than what i have said in my original post. If needs be i can upload some screenshots of quick system info or anything u might need to see

Try the a2sd+ gui and try to move dalvik cache to SD.

how would i move the dalvik cache. Also if i use the A2SD+ version of the rom, would i install it exactly the same as CM7 or would i have to do something different pre or post install?

SOLVED!!!!
i flashed the CM7r2 hboot from alpharev.nl by downloading the hboot, naming it PB99IMG.zip and using clockwork recovery to update the hboot. then i installed Insertcoins 1.1.2 rom.
WARNING!!!!
FLASHING A NEW HBOOT WILL MAKE YOUR OLD NANDROID BACKUP REDUNDANT, YOU CAN ONLY USE ROMS WITH CM7
