[Q] Ad Hoc support in Gingerbread - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm planning to by an AR Drone from Parrot but I saw that he need Ad Hoc.
I saw also that my DHD with 2.2 doesn't support it (until wpa_supplicant patch), my question is will 2.3.2 support Ad Hoc and why does Android (or wpa supplicant) not support it like Iphone ???
Regards,

Hello, nobody ?

All i remember is that Mike1986 (ARHD rom dev) had ad-hoc support in his rom. I do not know if he still does that.
But then you have to root your dhd and install custom roms. Which i do not know if you want to.

OpenFire Wifi Adhoc?

I just flashed OpenFire, and I was wondering why it can't find any Adhoc networks/networks I make with Connectify.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
wifi on wildfire is limited. it is basically meant for internet (receiving) and sharing its internet to others via WIFI HOTSPOT.
Regarding AdHoc and file sharing using wifi, they are not basically supported by wildfire. But for rooted phones, there is a fix for AdHoc and file sharing. U need to edit some system file. I have gone through some thread which i dont remember now. I will let u know if i see that again.
AdHoc works perfectly fine on CM7 and ImPROS.

I havent used those CM7 and ImPROS custom roms as im not rooted.
AdHoc feature is definately not present in official stock rom.
And i previously heard that it is not even present in rooted roms. And also heard that we need to do a fix to make it work. Ok im not actually aware of what u said above.
Maybe someone who used CM7 and ImPROS custom roms will have to answer whether or not AdHoc works in those by default. SOMEONE let us know......
edit: and in the thread, u said that u flashed openfire rom, and asking why it doesnt work. As i expect all the 3 roms u mentioned are different.

This is an alright solution though i do not recommend the no sense script, it only removes certain apps and pieces of sense, not altogether... Cyanogenmod is one of my favorites, but the best rom i've ever ran (No longer fully supported, dev kept inspire but bought evo3d) is Gingerbeast on the inspire 4g forums, by Dilligaf, i definitely recommend it.
I stand by Cyanogenmod. Its stock with a steroid injection.

Thank u guys i just got Cynogenmod 7 installed on my Desire HD it works really well..
But i have another Request for you guys ... i have to use my home internet connection .. tht is internet pass through on my Cynogemod 7 could u plz find me a soloution which suits the best to the phone.. as i do not have a WIFI at home.. i use the internet pass through which helps me to download apps faster as i have a slow 2G network...
A $10 usb wifi dongle can be plugged into your computer and used as a makeshift gateway to share your connection via wifi.
Unfortunately I don't use Windows, only Linux so can't tell you how to set it up.
The internet passthru never worked on Linux so this is what I did to get around it.

[Q] Why no WPA for portable hotspots?

I have finally sorted out the Clockwork Mod problems using the HBOOT downgrade method and played around with a few new 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 ROMs. I installed F1 GB V3, GingerVillain 2.7, Redux 1.2, CM7.0.3 and Oxygen 2.1.6.
I rely every day on the portable hotspot feature as I work with my own laptop on client sites. My laptop runs XP64 SP1 which supports only WPA and not WPA2. (XP64 SP2 does support WPA2 but I cannot install it).
Every new ROM that I have installed supports ONLY WPA2 and not WPA. Why?
This means I have had to go back to the old 2.2 Sense based ROM that does support WPA for portable hotspots.
I am baffled and would appreciate your insight and advice.
Why not just get SP3 for XP? If it's not working then if you didn't update your radio, it could clash with the newer rom. I'm pretty sure if a rom supports WPA2 then it will definately support WPA.
There is no SP3 for XP64, just SP2. I will have to slipstream SP2 into the stock XP64 CD using nLite and do a reinstall.
So... radios... when I last flashed a radio image it was to support the stock 2.2 ROM that I flashed last year. Would an obsolete radio image account for the lack of WPA2?

[Q] Custom sense-based roms wifi problems

Hello everyone,
I owned HTC Desire almost a year ago and used with Cyanogenmod 7 all the time. I wanted to switch to any rom that comes with HTC Sense UI, but everyone makes a trouble establishing connection to wifi (all of them are 2.3 gingerbread). When i want to connect to network is says 'connecting and disconnected', so its impossible to connect. I bought it with radio v5.11.05.14 but upgraded to 5.17.05.23. First i thought it was radio issue, but no problems with cyanogenmod so far. Also downgrading back to previous version didnt solve my problems.
What might be wrong?
I tried:
* Supernova
* Cool3D
* Runny Rom
EDIT: I have just restored stock firmware shipped by device (2.2 Froyo) - yep i've done nandroid (there is even no root access)
And this problem still occurs. I cannot connect to WiFi So, really, the only rom with working wifi is cyanogenmod... What the hell?
EDIT2: After some more investigations looks like Cyanogenmod is able to connect to 802.11n wifi while stock-based mods not (b/g only). Can anyone tell me how is that possible that 802.11n compatible hardware is so limited by stock firmware and if it is normal? I would really like to be able to connect to N-only networks.
Thanks a lot for your help!

[Q] Infrastructure Mode Wifi Tether with Incredible 2

Before I get to the main question I want to establish what I do know/have read (correct me where I'm wrong) and what I have tried:
1. Wifi Tethering does work on ICS and up roms, but only in ad-hoc mode.
2. This means that most android devices will not scan and connect to my wifi hotspot because they do not allow ad-hoc connections.
3. In order for said android devices to tether to and connect to a wifi hotspot, the hotspot must support infrastructure mode.
4. One can be enable ad-hoc support on a device trying to connect to the hospot by hacking the wpa supplicant thing (this is where I get fuzzy) on rooted devices.
My devices:
Verizon Incredible 2 (vivow) rooted with s-off
Radio: 1.09.01.0312
Roms tested on:
TSM UKB II 1.3.1
CM10 for the inc2 (aerovan)
IC Tazz Sense 3.6 ICS
Coredroid GB 2.3.5
MIUI 2.7.27 R1 (nitsuj)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7+ (p6210) non-rooted with 4.0.4 updated via KIES
Radio: Stock
Roms tested on: Stock
Laptop with Wifi Card
What I have tried:
Before I upgraded to ICS on my rooted Inc2, wifi tethering worked fine and was able to connect to my tablet and pc just fine. I was running Coredroid based on a GB 2.3.5 with a modified Sense. This led me to believe that infrastructure mode is supported on the Inc2, it is only software based. Then I initially upgraded to MIUI, and attempted to wifi tether to no avail, so I downloaded and ran the wifi tether apk from code.google.com, and attempted to run it again through a 3rd party app. Neither succeeded. I have tried this with Barnacle from the Play Market based on people's recommendations over in the developer's section and it successfully established an ad-hoc tether, which my pc picked up successfuly, but not my tablet.
I then tried this on an updated Sense (although modified) such as Tazz's and UKB's rom, and the same situation happened. This led me to believe that infrastructure support for wifi tethering isn't related to Sense (from what I understand Sense is just a Rosie apk with aesthetics and widgets only), so I went with an aosp rom such as aerovan's CM 10 (also CM 9 btw), while flashing kernels v12-14 and still no luck.
My Question:
Is there something with ICS and up roms that caused developers to remove infrastructure support from wifi tethering that their older Gingerbread cousins had? Perhaps it's something they haven't gotten around to addressing, and the forums are filled with "works for me" and "doesn't work for me" threads but nobody seems to address the ad-hoc vs infrastructure support (which leads me to believe the people who say it works are referring to ad-hoc and so forth). What can be done to move forward on this subject?
I think that's where kernel source becomes the main key factor. Dont quote me on that but that would be my best guess.
So I found a temporary fix for infrastructure mode tethering on rooted Inc 2s, and it goes back to wireless tether app I mentioned over at code.google.com. For some reason the newest beta releases don't work well with the Inc 2, but the wireless_tether_2_0_8-pre1.apk experimental build does successfully connect android devices and data streams through it.
If someone can pass this along to the devs over in the android development section that'd be great so they can take a look at the apk (assuming they didn't ) and maybe integrate it into their next rom interations.
Happy tethering!
