I tried to flash CM7 RC2 onto my phone last night. I usually do this manually, but last night I did it through Rom Manager which I think was probably my first mistake.
Anyway, the package flashed fine but after a reboot my SIM and SD card were no longer recognised. So I went into recovery (Amonra) and wiped ready to flash the update manually only to find my SD card wasn't recognised: E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk01p (No such file or directory). So, left with a phone with no ROM.
I can still get into recovery and bootloader but that's it. I've seen a few posts on here with regards to USB bricks, but my phone is no longer recognised by adb. However, I haven't accessed the phone via adb for some time now, so not sure of the reason I can't connect is my PC setup or the phone. I've got the HTC Bootloader device appearing when I plug it in via USB though.
Can anyone advise on anything I can do to sort this?
Thanks
Might be a driver issue when your in recovery. Re-install the drivers for the device using Device Manager and point windows to the driver directory within the SDK folder.

This is a strange problem, I cant tell when it started but it did all of a sudden. When I try to connect my phone to my computer it all of a sudden does not recognize the device (it shows under USB in device manager as unknown device). This happens on my laptop and stationary one (XP and Windows Home Server). On my work computer and my girlfriends laptop (Windows vista) nothing happens at all. The only thing happens is my phone shows notification about HTC Sync (doesnt show the "mount SD card" option). I cant install modaco 2.x since it says it isnt signed when I try to run update.zip from "home+power" mode.
Anyone knows a solution? I really want to flash either modaco or the official HTC rom.

have you instaled HTC Sync + the Android SDK? Drivers are included, also ensure you have gone to settings > Application Settings > Development.. and selected USB Debugging in the handset
if you have done the above you should be able to...
Sync your device
Do a nandroid backup
Root your device
and flash, flash, flash
hope this helps
Thing is, all those stuff is checked. The strangest thing is that the phone doesnt even ask me if I want to mount the SD card (to make the phone like a card reader). I successfully flashed the generic rom again (so my phone is not rooted etc etc) but it still cant connect to any computer through USB (except from when in bootloader (back+power). Its really starting to bugging me since I cant transfer music to the phone anymore I tried a hard-reset, flashed a generic rom (the new one) and formatted the SD card (the phone can read and write to/from it without problems).
I've got the same problem for quite some time now and still no answers...! :-(
It seems very few people on these boards know of our exact problem and i've never seen a solution. Also not from the many people on these boards I consider guru's. :-(
I'm at a total loss here...
I will call HTC Sweden today and see if they can help me solve this issue. I will get back to this thread as soon as Ive been speaking to them. This is starting to really bugging me.
First of all, I would try reformatting your SD card on the phone itself via Menu-> SD card & Phone Storage. If you need anything on the card, you'll have to stick the SD card in adaptor and attach it to your PC directly.
Secondly, by the sounds of it you haven't flashed Cyanogens recovery image, or your HBOOT is wrong, if you are getting a problem with the signature on Modacos image. Either flash Cyanogen recovery, or follow the instructions found on another thread for restoring your HBOOT to an earlier version.
Regards,
Dave

I have tried to format the SD card already, didnt help.
What would the hboot have to do with the SD card mounting? I got the original hboot .0004 or somehting like that (never touched it).
This is the complete infor from my HBOOT screen (power+back).

Should I update something? And how would that help me get USB connection to work outside fastboot? Since its only working in fastboot and not in the android system itself?
Answer from HTC:
If you are getting the 'USB Device not recognized' error in XP, then your device has a faulty USB port. You need to call our repair line to gte it booked in for repair. That really is all there is, once the hardware dies and starts giving that error, there generally is no hope apart from replacing the USB socket or the whole motherboard. best regards, HTC Europe Support
Would have been nice if they could include in this message where I should turn etc?
I had the same error when I flashed my unit with wrong radio image (newer version) without flashing system and boot images. Then I reflashed those as well and everything worked ok.

Is there any update.zip containing all those updates? and would it void my warranty? ex, would HTC be able to see any difference to the hboot etc?
Any guide you could point me to on how to update all those things?

HELP!!! yes , its that bad and frustrating for me.
What happened?
I installed the latest CM7#218, and the phone never was able to restart. It was giving the '3-5 vibrates' symptom. After managing to get into recovery mode, i couldnt see anything from SD card. I later erased and reformatted the sd card but to no use.
In detail:
1. Installed CM7#218.
2. phone restart gives 3-5 vibrate symptom, cant even get into recovery mode.
3. tried factory reset , sd card reformat, repair from windows but doesnt help.
4. only when i unplug the device, power on or when i click on recovery mode, and while on the HTC splash screen, if I connect charger, ONLY then i can get into recovery mode or start the base CM7 OS.
5. in recovery mode i cannot see card , tried all possible mounts/unmounts. thus unable to restore any backups
6 when the base OS boots, (using point#4 above), i still cannot see sd card, nor able to format from phone. in file manager i can see my internal storage. But the phone does not give me any usb mount option , so cannot even view the internal memory from windows.
7. referred to the following thread and many other options etc, but doesnt work.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
the adb shell does not detect my device, tried using 'PDANET' ' ends with 'cannot handshake with device'. tried installing droidexplorer, cannot see my device in the refresh list.
8. Thus as it stands now, i cannot use my internal as well external memory, the web downloads wont go, saying cannot see any memory, same for camera, it cannot see any memory available to it.
9. have already tried N number of restarts, connect disconnect and battery pulls.
10. tried even running the unrevoked, but it cannot connect to device.
11. tried installing all possible drivers as well.
12. its surely not bricked cuz i can use the base OS, and get into recovery through #4 tactics.
HELP!!
Have you seen this?
http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=33
Firstly my sdb shell is nto detecting the device..."error: device not found"
my device manager show "ADB INTERFACE -> HTC BOOTLOADER" and there are no warning icons aroind any other devices, so driver seems to be fine.
You need to install the adb drivers on your pc. It should say adb composite device. I believe you get them from the android sdk.
ok now that i was playing around from recovery..i ended up formatting everything...even boot....so now i no longer get the base OS...the moment i power on my device it automatically goes into hboot...
So, as per the link you shared. it says my phone need to be in fastboot mode...and in fastboot mode the device manager should read 'android bootloader interface'?
I did go through most of the search items initially...stumbling from one issue to another...finally it boils down to adb -device not found issue....its been 2 days and i've almost given up now...
any last minute help?
only the recover mode is working with no access to sd card,
it can access teh internal memory , but there is no way for me to copy any files to the internal memory...it doesn mount neither the adb is working
Have you tried reformating your sd fat32 with a pc, or tried a different sd card? Thats the only other thing i can sugest to try.
yes, that is the first thing i found in other forums and already tried that....
you think you have any suggestions to atleast access my internal memory , may be, from linux (i am not a linux guy but have a ubuntu live cd) so that use the option 'install zip from internal memory'
Im not sure im not much of a linux guy eithet, mabey someone who is will chime in.
I'm new and I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place or re-posting an old question, but I have been searching on this and other sites for days and haven't been able to find anything pertaining to my question, so sorry in advance If I'm not posting this correctly.
I have a rooted epic touch with rogue boot loader installed and UnNamed rom installed. I really liked the way it was running until I had some kind of malfunction happened and now the battery charge light won't shut off and the battery drains within a couple hours of standby time. the phone is only a couple months old and would like to take it to the sprint store as I'm assuming this is an obvious hardware issue. My problem is that my pc doesn't recognize my phone anymore so I can't flash back to stock and get rid of root, voiding my warranty. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies and stand alone drivers multiple times with no avail. I've tried with the battery and sd card removed and have also tried on multiple pc's (2 win7 and and xp machine). every time it says the drivers weren't installed successfully and to replace the device being connected.
My question: Is there a way to revert to stock off of the internal memory of the phone? I know there are zip roms you can flash from the boot loader but I was wondering if there was a way to flash a rom from zip and install the original boot loader as well as get rid of root? Any help I can get would be extremely appreciated and again I apologize if I am wasting anyone's time by asking in the wrong place or re-asking a question.
Ok so I downloaded the Calkin's_Stock_Rooted_EK02_ROM_v1.0 and got it on my sd card via dropbox. Flashed and now have a stock rom on it which I think is a step in the right direction.
The only thing is now I have clockwork boot loader and still rooted. and still not recognizing on pc. anyone know of an unrooted zip with original boot loader?
I couldn't get my PC to recognize either of my 2 E4GT's, each due to a different reason, both issues were resolved by going through each step in sfhub's debugging checklist:

This post is for the FAQ section:
Why is the install stuck waiting for device to be connected?
Your phone isn't being recognized by your PC as an Android device.
When the drivers are installed and the phone is properly recognized, you should see the following in start->run->devmgmt.msc
Code:
Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface
Modem
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem
Until you get the SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface to show up, neither ADB nor this script will work.
Here is a debugging checklist:
1) dial ##UPST# (##8778#) in the dialer and verify AP (or ALL) is checked (if CP is checked, phone won't be recognized as an Android device)
2) restart the ADB server (choose Option G to stop the server, it'll get started automatically by the script)
3) verify USB Debugging is ENABLED
4) verify USB drivers are installed (Win7-64bit see below)
5) try a different usb cable
If you are in Win7-64bit try changing the default install location for the drivers:
If you see an error like this:
Try running the CMD prompt (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) as Administrator. Right-click on the CMD icon (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) and select "Run As", then select Administrator.
If that doesn't work, try disabling windows firewall.

I went down that list and everything seemed to be in order but still no recognition by pc. I kept uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and switching usb ports and it finally installed the drivers successfully long enough for odin to recognize it and to flash back to stock. As soon as it was done the machine stopped recognizing it again. Lucky break I guess. So I can now return it to sprint and deal with the hardware issue.
I would still like to find a zip file like the tar that I flashed that installs stock recovery and non rooted ek02 rom and kernel from cwm, if that's even possible.
Thanks Godswrath, for helping me out.
You could use wifi explorer to get files on to sd card and mobile Odin to flash the tar file back to stock....

Lol....I am a noob.
They make a mobile Odin? That would have saved my like 4 hours....
Hey guys,
I'm having some issues with mounting while I'm in the recovery. In fact, the computer (win7) won't even recognize that the phone is connected via USB. The device manager just shows "SAMSUNG_Android_SPH-L710" with a yellow exclamation mark. Whenever I connect the phone in recovery to the computer, it tells me driver installation was unsuccessful. I searched around before posting and made sure of few things.
1. Using the Samsung USB Cable.
2. Installing the Sprint_L710_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe found on Samsung's website.
3. I reinstalled the driver after it didn't work the first time.
I did read that I need adb drivers to get my computer to recognize my phone while in recovery mode. Is that true? If so, can someone please provide me the link to those drivers. I googled it but want to make sure I install the right version and don't end up bricking it.
Is anything else can be the issue here? Also, is mounting in recovery supported in latest CWM/TWRP?
I'm stock rooted with the LI3 update and trying to wipe everything clean before trying out Paranoid Android ROM. I haven't wiped anything yet since I want to make sure after I wipe my external/internal SD Card, I can place ROM files in the storage. Please let me know and any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Not sure why you are trying to access your computer from recovery mode.

1) Because a lot of root instructions tell you to
2) Because it's really annoying to reboot the phone, load a file, reboot to recovery and flash
I root devices part time and use that feature pretty often

It is hit or miss and I don't know why. Sometimes it mounts for me, sometimes it doesn't.
Save yourself a ton of time and heart ache. You shouldn't lose and internal or external memory when you flash a rom on the SGS3. When you wipe, it only wipes your system and data which is on a separate system storage. I have read some people report a flash wiped their internal storage, but certainly not the external.
Btw.. Are you selecting "mount usb storage"?

Thanks guys for replying. So I finally got it working. After the first reinstall of the drivers, it still wasn't working. I was getting frustrated so I was like let me reinstall one more time. Give it a one more try. This time, I have no idea what changed but it started mounting. It still shows up in device manager with yellow exclamation mark. However, when I click Mount USB Storage in TWRP, it mounts. It does seem random in a sense that it works sometimes and doesn't other times.

I have the same problem. I need a driver for device manager while in twrrp.
Hi folks,
I previously managed to get Cyanagenmod installed on my HTC One X but since made a mess of it trying to get a stock ROM on there (to unlock my SIM). I have since given up on getting a stock ROM back on there and am now trying to get Cyanogenmod back on there, but I have hit some problems.
I have CWM on there and my PC can see the phone in Fastboot, but not via ADB (which I am trying to use to 'push' the ROM on there so I can install it). My PC (Win 8.1) is giving me a "device descriptor request failed" when connecting to USB when on the boot menu, and is showing up just as "One" in device manager when I load CWM. However neither of these situations are allowing my computer or ADB to recognise the SD card.
I have tried 'mounting' it in CWM, updating drivers through device manager, installing Sync (and uninstalling/reinstalling it), installing HTCDriver_4.10.0.001.msi all to no avail.
Does anyone have any advice to get my PC to recognise my phone or otherwise get a customer ROM installed (if there is another way.)
Thanks in advance all.

Flash Philz 5.15.9 recovery use it to mount sd card then to copy the rom you need then flash recovery for your rom for CM12 is one for CM11 is other and for Sense is third. For sense rom you can use Philz 5.15.9. And for the new layout is fourt recovery
Thanks!
I couldn't find it so I downloaded a newer version, but it didn't work, so I looked for longer and found a version, but that wouldn't even boot. In the end I used openrecovery-twrp-2.1.7, which did let me mount the SD and install the ROM.
Then I got stuck on the loading screen, but I discovered I needed to just flash a boot.img (which wasn't in either of the guides I was following, for some reason?!) and now I'm all up and running.
Thank you kind sir!
