Continuous Boot loop, Cant load Recovery, NEED HELP! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I'll try to keep this simple and informative.
I have been rooted with unrEVOked for months. Last night I flashed CyanogenMod 7 RC2. (I've posted this there too on their forums) Today my Evo crashed while using the app QR Droid, and now goes into a boot loop after the "htc EVO 4g" white screen. It loads that screen, then goes black, reboots and does this cycle until I pull the battery.
I can get into hboot. (v 2.10.001, Clockworkmod), S-OFF, updated radio last night when I actually could before I flashed CM7 RC2 to 2.15.00.11.19.
Here is where the problem deepens, and is very similar to this thread; Bricked Evo, and cant factory wipe. Help please
When I try to select Recovery, the boot-loop starts over; so i actually cant get into recovery and flash anything from the sd card it also does not give me any triangle bull**** or whatever, just starts the boot loop.
I have a card reader for my micro sd card; I took everything off of it and put an RUU on it, renamed it PC36IMG.zip, got into hboot, tried to update it and it failed, goes back to the boot loop. I believe the ruu was outdated.
Can someone link me to the most recent recovery image? I should use to get back to stock? I think that is my problem, the ruu is out of date.
Or any other input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I tried this recovery image to know effect, when i reboot after applying update it goes back into loop; CANT POST LINK YET!

I attatched a PC36IMG of Amon Ra recovery version 2.3. You can try flashing that from the bootloader. I will also provide a link to the most recent RUU's and PC36IMG's. This link actually has all of them, old and new. Hope you're able to recover the phone dude. Good luck.

should'nt make any difference at all. I'm not sure how your initial problem happened, but you are not the first I've seen this happen to. Most that I've seen were recent, and were running CM7. Not sure what's up with that, but if you search the q and a section, you'll find a few similar threads. Very strange. I hope you ge it working again.

Happened to me and a few others a week or 2 ago. There was no fix that we found. Pc36img wont work, ruu won't work. U won't be able to do anything to get s-off to s-on either (in my experience.) Even tho u can get to bootloader, if its like what happened to me and a few others, ur bricked. I got mine warranty replaced (but they're still gonna charge me $125 for returning an unrecoverable phone) another guy threw his out his car window and they charged him $100 to replace his "lost" phone. Those are the only options I know of.

[Q] Boot loop (no boot image)

Hey guys! I have no idea where to post, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.
I'm very new to rooting and I've seem to come into a major problem. (Atleast in my eyes.) To start off I had gotten my HTC Evo 4g & used the method of UNRevoked to root my Evo. I then found out UNRevoked isn't a full nand unlock & all the nitty gritty, so I came upon Toastcfh's guide to rooting the Evo. I performed half the instructions as told and was then in this boot loop. Right before it happened I (think) I erased the Dalvik Cache, but I definitely hard formatted the whole phone/cache. Anyway as told in the instructions I was suppose to flash the PC36IMG.zip to my phone and I did. Once that all configured it rebooted on itself & now the phone is stuck in boot with stock recovery method. I can load into HBOOT and see that in green lettering it says: SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-OFF, HBOOT-0.79.0000, TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab, RADIO-1.39.00.04.26. Please help me. I havent used my phone for a whole day now. :\
To add: Before the PC36IMG.zip got added on my phone, I had clockwork mod recovery. Now I have the stock one I'm guessing. I have tried a stock RUU through HBOOT USB, but the RUU either says some error my phone battery is under 30% (when it's fully charged). Or the RUU will say waiting for device to connect. & I tried putting a rom on my sd card then flashing or whatever and my computer wont open my sd card unless, I put it in the disk reader. Please ask questions, I'll answer as best as I can...thanks!
The current Unrevoked does in fact unlock nand, so you should have stopped there. I am not familiar with Toast's rooting method, so I can't say for certain what happened. The good news is, you are probably fine, you just need to reflash a rom. Since you can't get into recovery, the best way to fix this is to flash a rooted stock pc36img from your hboot. Download the file from THIS THREAD, rename it to pc36img, put it on your sd card and boot into hboot. It will find it automatically and then it will take a few minutes to load it. Once it's loaded it will ask if you want to run the update, choose yes and let it do its thing. When it's done you will have the latest rooted stock rom on there and clockwork recovery. Make sure you delete the old pc36img off your sd card before doing this. Good luck and godspeed.
Did what u said there MetalHead. still getting boot loops at the white htc evo 4g screen and can not get into recovery. Do you have anymore suggestions?
I would try it again but use this PC36IMG.zip instead.
http://www.4shared.com/file/5U4M4eVi/PC36IMG.html?cau2=403tNull
This one is completely stock. You will be unrooted after running it, so you will have to root again.

Boot loop and lost recovery

Hey all. Running CM6.1 172 nightly. Launch day evo rooted with toasts 2 part.
Flashed zendroid last night. Booted and ran great, good scores on quadrant etc. Smooth as butta.
Rebooted to do a backup of the new setup. Boot loop, about 1 seconds on the splash screen each time. Not sure if its of relevance but its the fastest boot loop I've seen (day one g1 owner). Went to recovery to restore, and....boot loop after selecting recovery.
So I figure recovery image went bad somehow. Fastboot flash AmonRa1.8. Attempted to reboot into recovery. Aaaannddd....boot loops.
Does anyone have any ideas on where I should go next? I can get into bootloader. Had to do plenty of "repair" with the G1, but this is the first issue I've ran into with my Evo since launch day.
Cliffs: CM6.1. Flash zendroid. Runs fine. I reboot. Boot loops. Attempt to enter recovery. Boot loops. Fastboot flash recovery. Loop loop loop. No recovery, cant get into the operating system so no ADB.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Just tried flashing PC36IMG.zip from toasts part 2. Still cant get past splash screen. Grrrr. It did however change my splash screen so I would guess it flashed fine. But it still looped after rebooting.
That sucks. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I've never had anything like that happen, but from reading through xda, I've seen this happen to other people. Now I've never had to do it, so don't know the steps. But I think you can take your sd card out, and mount it in your pc. Load a stock RUU onto your sd card, then put the card back in the phone, and flash it from hboot. Then you'll be totally stock and have to start over, but I think that's what you should search about doing. I wish you luck, and hope someone who knows more than I can help more, or inform you of another way.

Hey thanks for lookin man. Yeah my next move is gonna be flashing a stock unrooted img see if I can get into Android. I already tried reflashing toasts 2nd pc36img.zip (launch day evo rooted with toast 2 part). Thanks for your input tho.
i would say unroot is your best option

[Q] 5 vibrate no boot inc

Ok so it has happened to me finally.
I was installing a rom. It was unsuccessful so i restored my last backup.
It restored and upon reboot i got 5 vibrates and black screen.
i can get to hboot and hboot usb
hboot ver 92
radio 78
I have tried a couple pb31img. they install all with ok and then 5 vibrate no boot.
I can get to recovery and flash update.zip. 5 vibrates no boot.
I have a replacement on the way.
But i really want to fix it! any ideas?
sorry wrong place mods please move to q&a

Try reformatting your memory card to FAT32 and then put the PB31IMG.zip to the root and try again.
reformat suggestion
did that. only two files on card are pb31img and update.zip. freshly formatted fat32
This is in the wrong section.
But to answer your question, RUU.
Also, root voids warranty. So if they happen to look into it and see that your device is rooted, you'll likely get charged the $100 insurance deductable. Unless you don't have the insurance.. then you'll end up paying the full $549 or whatever it is.

I've had this happen before. I'm not sure why the nandroid restore would fail, but it may have been because of a near-full SD card. I was stuck at hboot for a while, but couldn't get into recovery. I tried to enter recovery like 30 times and it worked once so I wiped and installed my rom.
i can get into recovery but it is the stock recovery. can only flash update.zip. if i had a rom could i rename it update.zip?

no, root is needed for any rom other than HTC
also, then phone will boot if you have it plugged in. get a refurb, ask for over night delivery, they never say no.

I have the same trouble. This happened Monday afternoon after backing up via clockworkmod, full wipe, and flashing cm_inc_full-0.zip. 5 buzzes and green LED flash at boot after the white splash screen.
Previously, I had S-OFF, but after the buzzing, hboot shows S-ON.
I can get the phone to boot completely if I have it connected to my computer, but as soon as I disconnect the cable, the display blacks out, 5 buzzes and green LED flash.
I have flashed the latest Verizon stock PB31IMG (build-3.26.605.1-release-152016-baseband-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000_PB31IMG.zip) and it is successful, but the phone still behaves the same. Trying to flash older stock Verizon firmware does not work, because hboot knows it is older, and refuses to install.
I cannot get adb to recognize the phone, no matter what I do, but fastboot sees the phone at hboot. RUU also does not work, it never sees the phone. Unrevoked starts to run, but quickly stops with a communication error.
From what I have read on this forum and others, this issue is happening quite frequently in the last few days.
I tried the "old school" method for rooting, by running a adb shell loop and trying the eject sd card method. That did not work.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to try?

yea, un-root, s-on and get a refurb.
It might be helpful to know which ROM(s) were being flashed when this happened, to see if there is any consistency.
i had been flashing the #XX-inc-cm7src-syko-eng packages before I flashed cm_inc_full-0.zip
I am having this same problem, to the letter. I had been running Skyraider and wanted to try MIUI. However, I was only preparing to flash a new rom. I hadn't even put the rom on the sd card yet. It was giving me issues getting into clockwork and when I finally managed to get in, it wouldn't backup. I reformatted my sd card and tried again; it said it succeeded doing the nandroid backup and when I rebooted it started doing the 5 vibration no boot thing. I never actually even loaded a rom, all I did was a nandroid backup, which I can't find on my sd card now so it apparently failed despite the message.
I messed with this for a day and managed to get the stock november OTA loaded with s-on via timely connection and disconnection to my pc, so I shouldn't have a warranty issue. I took it into the verizon store and they overnight shipped me a refurb. Unfortunately, it was evening when I went in so it could apparently take until monday
In the meantime, I can still use it if I turn it on while connected to my pc and disconnect as soon as I see the "quietly brilliant" screen. If you wait until it boots all the way in it will usually shut down vibrating when you disconnect it. Hope that helps someone that just needs the phone to work for a bit. Would love to know if someone finds out what is happening and if there is a way to fix it.
Don't know if this helps but I had been having issues with my phone frequently telling me the sd card was mounted read only leading into this, but it would usually fix itself if I tapped the icon that popped up. I also had lost the ability to unmount the sd card prior to this, and the phone would no longer work as a mass storage device when connected to the pc. I thought it was a problem with Skyraider but now I'm not so sure. Don't know if others are also experiencing this, but even now that I got it running on stock and into the os the 8gb internal phone storage and my sd card no longer register.
This basing on the info I have gather from people smarter then myself...
5 vibs = qualcomm download mode. From what i have been able to gather a simple batt pull should resolve the issue.
The way you get into this download mode is by pressing the vol+/- at the same time. Kinda explains the reason it is becoming so frequent.
I have no proof to back this up but give it shot.
Okay, so do you have CWM at this point?
CWM?

[Q] Help with soft birck

The incredible will go into hboot but the recovery, factory reset, clear storage all send it into a boot loop. It is S-off and should have cwm (the root was done by unrevoked) but I cant get it into recovery mode to fix the problem. the up vol + power will cause it to vibrate 3 times but the screen stays black.
I am use to samsung phones where I can just odin it back to stock but have little experience with Htc. Any help on reverting it back to stock or just help me get into recovery so i can flash a custom rom would be great. thanks
btw
hboot is .92
Radio 2.15.00.07.28
If you are s-off I would first try reflashing cwm thru hboot as a PB31IMG.zip
Here is the CWM 5.0.2.0 PB31IMG.zip
http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip
Just place it on the root of your sd and then boot into hboot (hold vol down and power) it should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to install. If that works then install the su binary found below thru recovery.
http://dinc.does-it.net/SuperUser/SuperUser_3.0.7.zip
thanks for the quick reply after updating with the PB3 file it still wont go into recovery mode, just the boot loop. any other ideas?
I would say your next step would be to do an ruu of froyo 2.2 wich you can fiNd here http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/3.26.605.1/PB31IMG.zip and if that dosent work I would try an ruu exe with your pc.
Thanks for your quick response, this phone is wack! I ran the ruu exe from my pc it did its thing and successfully updated the Rom but to my surprise when it rebooted it was stuck in a boot loop!
I had a similar problem a few days ago, and the only solution I found was to update CWM through RomManager. I'm thinking that the problem may have been caused by RomManager in the first place, which is why this is the only method that worked for getting CWM working.
You could try flashing an older version of cwm like 3.0.0.8 thru hboot. Mabey cwm 5 is whats causing your troubles. Or try flashing amon ra recovery.
Cwm 3.0.0.8
http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_3.0.0.8/PB31IMG.zip
Amon_ra 3.02
http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/AmonRA_3.02/PB31IMG.zip
I flashed both recovery's, also an ruu of a stock rom, and I also tried doing an ruu exe through the computer. all of them succeeded but in every case I am still stuck in a boot loop and cant get the phone to boot up

Can you get into recovery yet or are the hboot options still not working?
Mabey your hboot got corrupted somehow you can try reflashing it.
hboot 0.92
http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/Hboot_0.92/PB31IMG.zip
Then try flashing a recovery again and see if you can get into it.
None of the hboot options work. I have flashed all the files you have given me. and I have done the ruu exe of both froyo and gingerbread. they all say they have completed successfully but nothing has fixed the problem. Still cant get into recovery and it wont but up at all. Im not sure what else it could be
Im not sure then if none of those options work im at a loss of what else you could do. Mabey someone with more experince can chime in with some other options. Have you tried reformating your sdcard or using a different one? Thats the only other thing I can think of.

When you say "flashing" are you literally flashing these .zip files in CWM or are you renaming these files to PB31IMG.zip and installing thru HBOOT? There is a difference between the two.

ya i guess not flashing just running the PB31 file in hboot. I think im done working with it though. Im doing it for some guy who tried flashing it from verizon to another carrier but it didnt work and it only goes into hboot now. but thanks for all your help especially cmlusco. I'm still open for ideas but It's not going to my priority anymore. I learned a lot about htc phones if anything

He can flash any PB31IMG file sucessfully but the phone will not boot and selecting any of the options in hboot leads him to a splash bootloop, and requires a battery pull. It's all above.

Ya it is s -off
I have flashed the pb CWM file no luck and also the other recovery (cant remember the name)
I also tried flashing th pb hboot file no luck
I flashed the pb ruu froyo no luck and also gb no luck
i then tried doing it through my computer using stock froyo exe and also a gb one with no luck (In every case the phone said it was "successful" in updating the roms and/or the recoverys)
But nothing ever changes it will only boot into hboot but nothing works in the hboot everything just sends it into a boot loop on the white htc screen

Thats probably the issue it was attempted to be switched to another carrier wich is a fairly complicated process. He may have changed some settings below rom level that cant be fixed by flashing an ruu. Im not sure if there is a fix with qpst or not but if there is I have no clue how to do it.
Been seeing some odd issues lately. I had a problem, and it would just go to a black screen and vibrate five times.
If the USB was plugged in to my PC, it would boot and operate fine, as soon as I unplugged it, it would crash again.
Check this out, it may be related.

I've been having almost this exact problem and have been working on it since 5:30 last night. As my phone is also my modem, I am currently at the library on wifi... FML.
The only difference is that I did not try to switch carriers, I was just using my phone normally and then yesterday morning I had a bunch of FCs, and yesterday evenings began the boot loops when I unlocked to make a phone call, again, FML.
The timing is very bad, only about two weeks till my new-every-two. Please help, I need my phone and don't really have the money to spare for a new one.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Evo4g Reboot Loop can't start recovery

I know there are a million threads about this but I haven't found the right files to work with what I have.
My Evo4g has:
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 2.10.001
RADIO 2.15.00.11.19
Two nights ago after I plugged in my phone to charge for the night it randomly rebooted and has been stuck rebooting on the HTC splash screen. If I try to go into recovery it goes to the same splash screen, goes black, back to the splash screen, etc.
I've tried to flash a new recovery but when I try to fastboot I get a failed message and I think it's because the recovery file I have may be for a different radio/hboot combo.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
Update.... still no success
I tried to do a complete reset on the phone by taking out the SD Card, coping over the PC36IMG.zip file I used when I first rooted the pone and doing the update. The update completed successfully but the phone is still stuck in the reboot cycle, even in recovery mode. This is the thread I followed when I first rooted my phone earlier this year howtoroothtcevo235withbootloader218.blogspot.com/2012/05/this-is-my-guide-on-how-to-achieve-s.html
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Right now I'm stuck and don't know what else to try.

Thanks for the idea. I've tried "PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed" which changed my HBoot to 2.16.0001 but the phone is still stuck in the boot loop and I can't get into recovery.
My current system stats are:
HBoot 2.16.0001
Radio 2.15.00.0808
UPDATE:
So, I think I may be out of luck. From what I've been reading around the forums, if what I've tried doesn't work then the phone most likely has a hardware issue and is dead. I'm going to get a new phone but if someone has any ideas I'd love to resurrect this one.
