Boot loop and lost recovery - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. Running CM6.1 172 nightly. Launch day evo rooted with toasts 2 part.
Flashed zendroid last night. Booted and ran great, good scores on quadrant etc. Smooth as butta.
Rebooted to do a backup of the new setup. Boot loop, about 1 seconds on the splash screen each time. Not sure if its of relevance but its the fastest boot loop I've seen (day one g1 owner). Went to recovery to restore, and....boot loop after selecting recovery.
So I figure recovery image went bad somehow. Fastboot flash AmonRa1.8. Attempted to reboot into recovery. Aaaannddd....boot loops.
Does anyone have any ideas on where I should go next? I can get into bootloader. Had to do plenty of "repair" with the G1, but this is the first issue I've ran into with my Evo since launch day.
Cliffs: CM6.1. Flash zendroid. Runs fine. I reboot. Boot loops. Attempt to enter recovery. Boot loops. Fastboot flash recovery. Loop loop loop. No recovery, cant get into the operating system so no ADB.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Just tried flashing PC36IMG.zip from toasts part 2. Still cant get past splash screen. Grrrr. It did however change my splash screen so I would guess it flashed fine. But it still looped after rebooting.

That sucks. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I've never had anything like that happen, but from reading through xda, I've seen this happen to other people. Now I've never had to do it, so don't know the steps. But I think you can take your sd card out, and mount it in your pc. Load a stock RUU onto your sd card, then put the card back in the phone, and flash it from hboot. Then you'll be totally stock and have to start over, but I think that's what you should search about doing. I wish you luck, and hope someone who knows more than I can help more, or inform you of another way.

Hey thanks for lookin man. Yeah my next move is gonna be flashing a stock unrooted img see if I can get into Android. I already tried reflashing toasts 2nd pc36img.zip (launch day evo rooted with toast 2 part). Thanks for your input tho.

i would say unroot is your best option

[Q] Non-Noob stuck in Bootloader, out of ideas, and need help.

Guys and Girls, I need your help.
I consider myself to be relatively experienced at rooting the EVO, adb, flashing, and etc.. However, I am completely stuck and am hopeful someone can help me out. This morning when I tried put my EVO into recovery (Amon 1.8) it went into a boot loop. After a few minutes I tried booting into recovery again with the same result. And, even when I try booting normally it still just goes into a boot loop.
Not being able to boot the phone either normally or into recovery means adb is out of the question so, I tried the next best thing I could think of which was to reflash the rooted PC36IMG zip from toast's part two. (I used a card reader to put the zip file on the sd card) My understanding is that this should have reflashed damn near everything including the radio (albeit downgraded), bootloader, recovery, etc. etc. However, once again whether I try a normal boot or booting into recovery it just goes into a loop.
I haven't done anything different than usual in the past few days except for the fact that I did flash Fresh 3.4 last night only to change my mind and go back to Zippee's Desire HD ROM.
I am open to all ideas at this point since I am nearly out new ones.
I take it you can boot into bootloader since you tried to flash the pc36img... Have you thought about reflashing amon ra via fastboot? If not how about trying a different pc36img? There's one floating around in development of the 3.29 ota. Hope you can get this figured out!
I tried flashing a variety of PC3IMG zips around to no avail as well as just trying to flash a different recovery. The flashing is always successful I just can't get the phone to boot.
Since my first post I have even tried unrooting with the RUU.exe from HTC through fastboot. It too is successful and I get a confirmation but still boot loop. I think the phone is toast. Generally, not a big deal but Sprint's Customer Service stinks.
you said ADB is out of the question, but when you are boot looping, you can still adb, once the splash screen passes and you get into the boot animation, adb is accessible.
The phone never got as far as the boot animation. It would get to the splash screen and immediately loop again. That said, at this point I think it is a hardware issue anyway because even after successfully running multiple versions of the RUU.exe from HTC, it still didn't boot.
Multiple techs have looked at it and tried everything under the sun to get it to work to no avail. So, they ordered me another one which unfortunately, won't be here until Monday.
I don't know about anyone else here but four days waiting for another phone is lousy customer service in my book.

So you're accusing sprint of lousy customer service for something that is out of their control? It has to be mailed/delivered/shipped to the store location for you to pick up. As far as I know, sprint (like every other business in the world) has to use a company that delivers mail/parcels (ups, fedex, dhl, usps) and there delivery schedules are not controlled by sprint or you. I bet you would still whine if they told you it would be shipped directly to your door. I don't know about anyone else but whining about a company who just did there best to take care of you, their customer, makes you a lousy customer.
Happened to me.. did you data wipe before flashing?

Continuous Boot loop, Cant load Recovery, NEED HELP!

Ok, I'll try to keep this simple and informative.
I have been rooted with unrEVOked for months. Last night I flashed CyanogenMod 7 RC2. (I've posted this there too on their forums) Today my Evo crashed while using the app QR Droid, and now goes into a boot loop after the "htc EVO 4g" white screen. It loads that screen, then goes black, reboots and does this cycle until I pull the battery.
I can get into hboot. (v 2.10.001, Clockworkmod), S-OFF, updated radio last night when I actually could before I flashed CM7 RC2 to 2.15.00.11.19.
Here is where the problem deepens, and is very similar to this thread; Bricked Evo, and cant factory wipe. Help please
When I try to select Recovery, the boot-loop starts over; so i actually cant get into recovery and flash anything from the sd card it also does not give me any triangle bull**** or whatever, just starts the boot loop.
I have a card reader for my micro sd card; I took everything off of it and put an RUU on it, renamed it PC36IMG.zip, got into hboot, tried to update it and it failed, goes back to the boot loop. I believe the ruu was outdated.
Can someone link me to the most recent recovery image? I should use to get back to stock? I think that is my problem, the ruu is out of date.
Or any other input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I tried this recovery image to know effect, when i reboot after applying update it goes back into loop; CANT POST LINK YET!

I attatched a PC36IMG of Amon Ra recovery version 2.3. You can try flashing that from the bootloader. I will also provide a link to the most recent RUU's and PC36IMG's. This link actually has all of them, old and new. Hope you're able to recover the phone dude. Good luck.

should'nt make any difference at all. I'm not sure how your initial problem happened, but you are not the first I've seen this happen to. Most that I've seen were recent, and were running CM7. Not sure what's up with that, but if you search the q and a section, you'll find a few similar threads. Very strange. I hope you ge it working again.
Happened to me and a few others a week or 2 ago. There was no fix that we found. Pc36img wont work, ruu won't work. U won't be able to do anything to get s-off to s-on either (in my experience.) Even tho u can get to bootloader, if its like what happened to me and a few others, ur bricked. I got mine warranty replaced (but they're still gonna charge me $125 for returning an unrecoverable phone) another guy threw his out his car window and they charged him $100 to replace his "lost" phone. Those are the only options I know of.

Problem with getting into recovery!

Okay guys..First I would like to say that I am an avid viewer here and am pretty addicted to this site and come here everyday. Quick question though to anyone that can help me out. Today I decided to upgrade my Miui Rom on the Incredible 2. After it downloaded I went into recovery to install the new rom but forgot to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Next, after it booted up to boot animation it immediately went into bootloops over and over again and would not get past it no matter how long I waited. Finally, I turned off my phone and went into recovery and here's the kicker. I updated the radio previously, left it on my sd card, and when I went I tried to get to recovery all it does is update the radio again then tell me to reboot the phone, which it will not reboot. Is there anyway anybody knows how to delete the radio update from my sd card? or anyway around this so i can access recovery? Thanks in advance.

What you wanna do, is take out the SD card, and boot into bootloader. Scroll down to recovery and right as your splash screen comes up, put it back in. Once recovery comes up, you should be good. It happened to me that's why I know. Lol

No problem dude. Anything I can do to help. I'm new myself, and I figured if I can help find a problem and a solution that means I'm getting somewhere lol.

[Q] Phone is stuck! Help please.

Hi, I am not a noob, but my phone seems to be malfunctioning. Specifically it is having this problem:
My Incredible is running CM7 with ClockwordMod and was having many force close problems and the only solution seemed to be to do a factory reset or try getting a backup from recovery. When I tried recovery however, the phone got stuck on the HTC Incredible white screen and never did anything else. I took out the battery and tried factory reset, this produced the same result. I tried starting up the phone at that point again and when it got to the skateboarding android splash screen, it kept freezing and starting the animation over again. I am fine just doing a wipe through the USB if that's possible but I don't know how that is done. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have tried to flash CWM Recovery using the SDK, but it unfortunately has been giving me a different error, and it won't let me. I am wondering if my phone is dead, and there is no chance of bringing it back.
Currently using an OG Droid that I had as a back-up and wait for the Galaxy Nexus to come out.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.
Your phone is probably fine. Just the recovery needs reflashing.
Go to PvilleComp's site and download a recovery flashable from HBOOT (PB31IMG.zip method). Just boot into HBOOT with the file on the root of the SD card, and it recovery should work again.
Thank you very much! This worked perfectly.
Was able to get back into CM7. Am back up and running.
HUGE HELP!

Phone will only boot into HBoot

Hello,
Well, hopefully someone can help me out with an issue. While I've rooted and flashed phones before this, I probably know just enough to be dangerous. So, I was planning on moving back to my EVO 4g and thought I'd like to put ICS or JB on the phone to use as my normal device. So Sunday, I started playing with different ROMs in the forums. After flashing several ROMS I had an issue start. The phone would go through the White 'HTC EVO 4g' boot screen, stay there a moment and then reboot. I tried to reflash that ROM and had no luck. The only way to get out of this loop is to pull the battery. After searching on the website all week, I've tried several ideas, however nothing works. The last thing I did was to basically go through the process of rooting the phone again. After I did the fastboot command, I put the su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip file onto the SD card and used the recovery tool to install the ROM. After I did this, I restarted the device and no joy. However now the phone will only boot up to HBoot screen. I can get to recovery, however I can not put any ROMs on the phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rob
Are you sure you got a custom recovery or a ROM installed? You've only mentioned su binary zip which, I believe, isn't either of the previous.

Actually, No. So I went back and looked at the directions I was following and realized that the 'su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip' file was not a ROM or recovery file. When it was flashed onto the phone the stock rom was still on the phone. So ... I sent the 'TeamDIRTremicsUXv1.3' ROM over to the SD card and flashed it ..... IT WORKED .... thanks for the help!!!!!
Rob
Good to hear!
Enjoy the Team D.I.R.T goodness!!
Happy flashing!
