Ok, I have a 2.02 hBoot EVO running 3.30 Froyo.
I have been rooted for a few days now and I just installed Wifi Tether from the market... It all worked well and what not - but now when I hit the Phone Button on the bottom of the screen (Rooted Stock Froyo) it no longer pulls up my phone dialer or recent history... all it does is pops up a grey bubble with the word "phone" inside it... I attached a few pictures of it to this post - any one know if Wifi Tether had anything to do with this or what else could have caused it?
Thanks
Your phone apk is not in systems. You need to reflash the Rom as it did not flash correctly

But I didn't flash a ROM...it worked until a cpl hours ago... I did "back up ROM" on my Rom manager Also a nandriod BU... then installed WiFi tether and some time after that it stopped working...

Odexed? Deodexed?
You can extract the apk from SteelH's ROM (it is pretty much stock) Or hunt for the actual stock rooted ROMs (deodexed and odexed)
Not sure if this info has been posted anywhere. So, I would like to know if there is any way to install APKs from a different rom onto current rom. I am currently running IncRom 1.2, but I have never been a fan of Sense dialers. I would like to install either MIUI dialer or any 2.3 based dialer. Is it possible, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Just download whatever rom you want the apk from and put it onto your new rom? I hope that makes sense as I can't think of a better way to explain ...

I get what you're saying and I've tried that before, but then I always get force closes on phone app. What I've done before is grab apk from 2nd rom, place it in place of apk in current rom. I've tried zipping after that, and not zipping the file. After trying both ways, I reinstall rom, then run into the force close issue. Do I need to reinstall Rom after that? Or am I not even doing this the right way?
You need to fix the permission after you put it into your rom. I use root explorer and its two boxes for the first row then one for the other two.

Sounds good. Will try fixing permissions. Will report back on results. BTW, thanks for the help so far.
I don't think it is possible because the phone apk is tied into the framework. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I fixed permissions, removed current phone.apk and replaced it with the fixed phone.apk. I rezipped rom and reinstalled. Once it was up and running I was right back where I started with the original phone.apk, minus the fc's.

I know this works with the music.apk as I've done it in the past just replacing the stock app with the gingerbread music app and it worked just fine after setting permissions. But now that I think about it more I think I also had to install it just like a regualr app to get all the files in place then set permissions not just replace the file in the system/app folder.
The phone apk ties into other programs. It is not a stand alone flash. There would need to be some code changes to make it work.
Seems like too much work for me. Appreciate the ideas & help you guys offered.

Check out incredibly re-engineered...
Aosp dialer will probably not work on a Sense based roms as Sense is a UI overlayed and pretty deeply integrated into the Android os. You may want to consider one of the dialer options from market...Dialer one is popular. Or you may just want to consider moving to an aosp rom.

I have been trying to install reengineered but ever since I updated clockworkmod I can't. That's besides the point. I have used a few aosp roms but miss out on Sense. Guess I have my cake, but can't eat it. Oh well.

Downgrade clockwork or reflash via recovery. You wont be dissapointed.

I keep getting errors when trying to downgrade cw. I give up on 1 thing just to end dealing with something else.

Who are you asking? I never uninstalled stock messaging so I'm not sure who you are directing that towards. This was my first attempt at trying to move apks around so I don't have enough info.
Hi, im running ec05 with the urban fury rom. I made a few changes to the rom and rezipped the file and flashed the zip with the new apks i added. I used the apks from midnight rom extras 5.2, all i did was take the apks from system/app from the extras and added them to urban fury roms system/app folder. The primary reason i did this was to fix the voicemail issue as midnights rom didnt require a text message. However i ended up adding all the apks over anyway instead of just that one apk. Im just trying to find out why is it everytime i power down my phone and boot it up all the apks i installed from the market are gone...???? Im going to undo what i did in a few hours but and just try the voicemail apk, but im just curious why this happens and is there a way i can fix it? Thanks for any help....
Did you modify the apks? Sounds like they are not signed.

I'm having the same problem on the Urban Legend ROM, I didn't edit anything in the ROM, but everytime I reboot my apps from the market are gone and have to download again. The data files seem to stay as I don't have to reenter any information, but the app itself goes away.
Sounds like YPIR to me.

I had this problem on all Urban Fury variations that I tried. Only thing that didn't allow me to stay on them, as a matter of fact.
What is YPIR?
Im also having this problem every single time i reboot my phone all of my apps are deleted, i try to use titanium to bring them back but thats a hassle, is there anything i can do to make this stop? im a total noob plz help!
Hi all, I'm currently having issues with almost any AOKP ROM I am downloading. So far I've run PAC MAN, SOKP, and Google Play Edition ROMS and have run into the same issues across them all, so I am starting to think it was the way I've rooted my phone or a setting that I have made. My camera app keeps closing with "Unfortunately, Camera has stopped". Other apps randomly FC as well. Apps like Snapchat work, but not while using the front camera. I downloaded Google Camera and that app still FCs before I can use it, just like the stock cameras.
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S4 for T-Mobile. I rooted using ODIN, using CWM via Rom Manager app. My KNOX settings are 0x1. Does anybody know how to fix this? I did full wipes between each ROM, and this has been happening ever since I installed a custom ROM. Maybe some settings in CWM?
I have tried looking up the issue myself, but I have not yet found a solution to the issue. Also, I am a noob still, therefore please forgive me if this is a redundant question or if I ask you for further explanation. Thank you, please help me
Try running fix permissions in recovery.

I tried rebooting into recovery via Rom Manager, it doesn't even do anything once I click reboot. And so I ran fix permissions from Rom Manager and rebooted, still nothing. Would anybody happen to know the default mounts? Maybe it has something to do with those? Again, I'm a noob so I have no idea. I try to boot into recovery by holding down volume up + power + home key, and nothing happens. I've also tried booting holding down just volume up + power, still nothing. Maybe I have to do a complete re-root/reset of my phone? I downloaded a TW based ROM as opposed to AOKP, but I can't even get into recovery at this point. Is it a SU issue? Please help
Did you happen to use GooManager?

Use GooManager to see if you can get into recovery, if it doesn't work see if you can get into download mode and reflash firmware with Odin
I freeze it, then uninstall it, and every time I reboot(full or hot/soft) it comes back. I am stock rooted. Maybe an xposed mod?

I'd say try out viper ROM. It is very close to stock but let's you get rid of annoying things like kids mode. Any xposed module for aosp roms will not tend to work well with sense, so it will be tough to remove it from the power or settings menus.

Its cause of the stock kernel. Either flash a custom kernel or soff and you can delete stuff from the /system partition without it coming back after a reboot.
