[Q] Camera freezes @ night - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
I'll make it short.
Problem:
Taking pictures with daylight = no problem.
Taking pictures with daylight & flash = no problem.
Taking pictures at night with flash = phone freezes sometimes.
When the DHD flashes and takes a picture at night it happened too often that my device hang up. The screen went black and I have to take out the battery to reboot it. Besides no picture is taken.. That's quite annoying..
Happened with last official T-Mobile ROM (Germany)..
Happened with last Revolution 3.0 ROM..
With the build in Camera App & Camera Fun this happenes to my phone.
___________________________________________________________
Do u think it is worth to try a Gingerbread release or do u have any other solutions?
With AutoFocus, Auto Flash, Auto White Ballance and so on in Camera 360 it does not happen.. so far..

Htc knows this problem. The strange things is that not all HD devices got this problem. Have tot tried 2 make a picture at night with flash and a full battery ? Htc told that it is a issue with the auto focus and flash at night. Maybe with a good health battery the phone not freezes...

Thank u for your quick answer! Do you know if there is any solution besides a full battery? Because I don't have a full battery all the time especially at night^^
Was any DHD successfully "healed" ? If not I think I should go and get a new device as THIS would be a warranty issue..
[edit] didn't realize Camera 360 Ultimate does not have this failure.. seems to work fine tonight.

[Q] Camera/video playback locks phone/battery pull

When activating the camera on stock rom, rooter stock rom or custom rom the camera will lock up the phone, screen will turn off and a battery pull must be done to get the phone rebooted. Doesn't seem to matter the rom. Still the same effect.
Back story:
So my sister in law came to visit with her nice new shiny sgsII (t989). She got it from her friend who happens to be a tmobile salesmen in Seattle. She was told that the camera didn't work cause he downloaded something. But took it anyways (since he is her friend and she got it for free).
I thought I'd take a crack at it. Tried a factory reset. Same issue. Found that it was stock 2.3.5 and NOT rooted. Thought maybe a new camera app would fix it thinking the app would hook into the os/hardware and not the default camera.apk.... Same deal.
Last step I tried before coming here was to install a custom 2.3.6 ROM. It got to the standard camera screen but with nothing coming from the camera (black screen) and locked up before needing a battery pull.
I've come to the conclusion that her friend either tried to flash a different cameras firmware on the t989 or dropped it in the toilet OR BOTH!
What do you guys think the issue is?
Why would he want to flash different camera firmware?
I'm stumped. She is here on vacation and that phone is her camera.

how does one flash a camera firmware?
So this happens on every camera app?
Don't know how one would flash the camera firmware. It was an educated guess. From the info I was told "he downloaded something and now the camera doesn't work" is the only thing I could conclude from that.
On the Samsung Vibrant people would use alternative modified camera.apk or use custom kernels to get the front facing camera working but never seen of anyone changing firmware before.
I have tried technically 4 different apps. one from the stock rom, 2 from the market. PUdding camera and the other I don't recall off the top of my head. They both did the same thing. Which brings me to believe it is either the driver (which could be fixed by a different kernel) or the hardware. Come to think of it, it wasn't rooted when she got it. So I doubt he flashed anything. Unless he odin'd something....
Just got done talking the the previous owner. Turns out all he did was installed some official Google apps from the market place when this happened. Doesnt seem like he did anything wrong. He told me of two other issues that started at the same time as this one. Video playback will reboot the phone and web video reboot as well.
Got a workaround for the video playback: installed mx player and set it to render A/V in software mode. Not the best solution, but it works.
Online videos crash. IE any site with heavy flash. Updating flash didnt solve it nor an uninstall/reboot/reinstall.
That's where I'm at. 1 step forward 2 steps back...
Hate to do this, but..
Bump

Get Smart Stay functionality on HOX

Now you can enjoy SGS3 Smart Stay funcionality in HOX too. Download ISeeyou app from Play Store to get the feature.

Works perfect . Whether it drains battery.

Thanks. It works, now just have to monitor on the battery life.
Btw, would like to ask on the notification icon, is it possible to set it to show only when the "smart stay function" is activated during looking at screen?
Nothing happens on my one!!!!

Haha. You have to stare really really hard at the front camera. I kid
What's your screen off time? If you set it to the lowest for the screen to turn off after 15 sec, it might not work since the free version of the app detects your face every 20sec by default.
Get the paid version and you can set face detect time and scan time
it works quite well I must say

As @samuelong87 mention buy Premium version so that you can customize the time. It works perfectly at my side.
Smart Stay would be a nice feature to have but I would like to think that the app would somehow drain lots of battery.. abusing the front camera every half a minute or so would somehow have an impact I'm sure.
I wonder if the S3 would have enhanced battery life if they disabled the Smart Stay option.

i am wonder the same thing.
but i just purchased it and i will test
this is not interfering in any way to the auto brightness settings in in display as far as i can see.
it would be more than interesting to have an option to auto power off display after no face detecting (with customizable timing of course)
regards
Oh got it..thnx

Well, first impression on this app is that it's not really battery friendly, but it does what it is supposed to do very well. Maybe next releases will be better from this point of view.

This app appears not working when device is on horizontal position
It works here when I'm switching to landscape mode, maybe you're blocking the front camera with your finger a little bit ?

ISeeYou Causing Issues On My HOX
I have the HOX International. I used this app, and though it's a great concept, I was left largely dissatisfied by it.
While it works as advertised, I'm peeved with a couple of issues:
1) It blocks BOTH the front and back cameras. Try accessing the camera app while the service is ON and you only get a black screen.
2) It seems to hog battery occasionally (although this happens rarely).
3) I had the service to autostart, and received the shock of my life when around 1 hour into my day, I found that the rear camera was heating up. This might be a direct consequence of point 1 above.
I am on Stock and have the latest firmware update.
I don't know if any of you are facing these issues, but I've uninstalled the app ever since I started facing it.
Just a friendly heads up!

The camera works well here! But, when I launched it from lock screen, it was blank. After unlocking properly with the secure path I use, both front and back cameras worked! (Newest wwe firmware.)
BUT: it DOES brake Face Unlock! I already sent a bug report e-mail to the dev
Used to work ok,then stoped without reason and I got blank screen with stock and other camera app(FV 5 and ics+).Unistalled it,but still had to reboot phone to get camera working properly.Installed it again,it works now, stock camera is working as well as FV5,with ics + , it gets FC sometimes...very nice idea, needs some polishing.

I had haven't any problem as you wrote.
And also battery brain is normal from the moment front camera open for checking every 20". But no something special.
Anyway I think we dont need so match this future. At smartphones screen is so small, so when you read anything you need to scroll down. It's meaning if you touch the screen will continue to stay wakeup. I would like to have something like that in my iPad.
I can't get this working

Camera issues-Green photo in night!!!

Few days ago when i want to take a photo(it was night outside) all my photos was green...i change the settings and nothing. After this i tryed few third party camera apps and the photos again was green.Today i full wiped the phone and try another rom and the problem persist.
I wan't to mention that the first rom was ICJ 2.4 and the second is RD MIUI JB.You have any idea what is the problem?I don't know i must do or try to see what it's happends.
I attached a photo to see what is about...
I'd say there's an issue with the lense or Sense Photo chip as you've wiped the ROMs and it's still happening.
Or you've got a really awesome night vision Mod running you don't know about?
No man i wiped phone twice so...isn't any mod.I think is a hardware problem

Try flashing the correct RUU for your phone and then if the problems is still there after, you know its hardware then.

[Q] Lines through photos! Defective phone?

My girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S III has been producing photos with random lines through the saved photos constantly. It originally did this most noticibly when the battery was critically low but now it does it all the time. I then thought it might be an issue with CM10, but I just updated it (clean) to 10.2 stable release and it still does it.
Curiously, some other third party camera apps don't do this, but actually right now I just checked and it is happening in all apps. The live preview from all cameras looks fine. It's the SAVED photos that are screwed up. I tried setting the camera app to Internal vs. SD Card to make sure it wasn't a bad SD card but that didn't change anything. Turns out it happens EVERY time with the flash on but sometimes with the flash off.
My mom has my old GSIII and hers does THE SAME THING on very low battery, but not as much as this phone. She is also on CM10.2. I didn't notice it while I used it for 8 months.
Finally, another friend of mine also has a Sprint Galaxy S III and his is not even rooted and still on stock ROM. His does it with full or dead battery and almost all the time too.
Is this a known problem or what? Should I just revert to stock and get it replaced? I will probably nandroid and switch to stock to see if it does it there.
Here's some links to problem files:

No one else has ever seen this? I flashed back to stock and it seems to do it LESS but picture quality is still iffy. Any idea why CM10 would do this but stock wouldn't?
Its a cm issue. Happens in low light photos. Has green lines and stuff in the photo correct?

Strange. Is there more info about it anywhere? Like I said a friend of mine has unrooted stock and it does it. And it seems to only do it when flash fires. I figured out if I use touch and then snap the photo works fine. It also does it more or worse on low battery. Battery is not bad.

I haven't paid attention to the battery level when I notice this issue but I have noticed that it doesn't happen on the Touchwiz Camera app. It does happen with Focal (recreated last night) and the stock AOSP app (when I was on CM10/11). I am currently on MOAR 7.0.1 and noticed it on Focal last night. I believe the battery was close to dead and charging. I wonder if its the way the app accesses the flash.

Battery got down to about 39% when I last tested. Saw some faint streaking using Focal. None using stock camera.
Strange guys. It does it less on CM11 with Camera Zoom FX than stock. Always on stock with flash on. At least with Camera Zoom FX, you can put flash on torch mode and it works fine. This isn't so bad since it helps focus better and faster anyway. Blinding though.

Big problem with camera! Not botting any app; just black screen!

Hi guys!
I recently (1 week?) updated my HTC One M8 to the Android Revolution HD 53.1 ROM. Suddenly, now, I can't open the official HTC Camera App. Well, actually, yes. I open it, and I just see a black screen, but the lower buttons. I can change to selfie mode, and it works perfect. However, when I try the rear camera, it doesn't function (just black screen and closes after ~4seconds). I took the last pictures less than 16 hours ago):
I've tried OpenCamera App, and it's also a black screen, although it doesn't freeze. I paste you the logcat, hope you can help me, guys! It would be awesome, thanks in advance. I've no idea of what can be happening, I don't even know if it's due to the ROM, because it worked perfectly yesterday...

After wiping my smartphone, it didn't worked... I supposed a Hardware problem.
But suddenly, since this afternoon, it works without problem. I don't know what can be happening.
I hope it doesn't occur any more
