Can you give us more than an hour to answer your question?
You will be fine flashing that. As long as your stock rom has been fully updated, then you are on the same hboot as everyone else.

Assuming you are running the latest 3.70 OTA update you will be fine. MIUI is a nice looking rom, but not one I would recommend for someone new to this as it requires constant upkeep. Make your first flash an easy one, try Myn's Warm 2.2.

just dont forget to do a nandroid backup of your stock rom first....

There is no constant upkeep needed. They release a new one each week, but you don't have to update every week. Pretty much everything works fine in the current build except front facing camera and 4g.

Since you are new to all of this. I suggest working with basic ROMs first. Something that doesn't modify your phone so heavily that you might run into issues that you can't handle.
Check my sticky for a ton of information that will help you as well as links to ROMs.

Try MikFroyo 4.5 or the MikZ ROMs. They are AWSOME.........

Kings Ultra R2 is pretty slick too.

I'm new to here, but have flashed a ton since I got my Evo in Dec. I found that just going through the process with something similar to stock made me more comfy in my flashing capabilities. I will warn you, it has become an addiction for me now.

Rooted stock ROM + custom kernel?

I am rooting my 2.2 phone tonight and all I want to do is get rid of the damn 30fps cap, remove bloatware and keep everything else pretty much stock. Is it possible to load a custom kernel when using a stock rom or do I need to use a custom rom as well? I really like how sense integrates facebook into the contacts and don't want to lose that.
Also, any kernel/rom recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have an 003 evo with a Novatek screen.

Most custom kernels work with any ROM, as long as they are for the same build! I put emphasis on this because if you use the wrong ROM/Kernel/Radio combo, you could brick your phone. So do so very carefully. Only use a kernel/radio if it is built for a specific build number.
So I need to find a kernel that is for the 3.26.651.6 build that I want to install? Do you know which kernel will work?
I've had good luck with netarchy's kernels(currently using v4.18). You can find them in the dev section. Using a stock ROM here.

i just flashed this today, so far i'm pretty impressed and liking it, especially since i'm also using Netarchy's HTC OTA froyo final build, both work perfect together so far, i've seen my fps so far bounce to 47fps, lol, sweet.
Thanks for the input guys. I used netarchy's kernel with the rooted 2.2 rom that got installed during the 2.2 root process. It works great and looks awesome, it's so smooth.
New To rooting and all
Hello Everyone;
I have a Droid X running stock ROM version 2.2 I have rooted to remove bloatware but have not done much else. I am interested in using setcpu but do not want to do so unless I can monitor CPU temp. I am wondering where to find the kernel for this, what is it called, and how do I install it step-by-step.
Sorry if this has already been answered but I have been searching for quite some time and can not seem to find the answer.
Thanks For the help.

[Q]0004 HW , which rom?

first time poster here , ive been reading alot of different info about rooting for the evo as i am new to all of this. I just got my evo this past dec and its not rooted(yet) ,i plan on puting on myn's warm rom but one FAQ/post that particularly bothers me is a quote from the following found at android central
Hardware Version 004:
--
Just a tip for after this process is complete, if you have Hardware Version 004 you need to run a ROM built off of the latest Sprint kernel (as of now, I'm sure aosp builds like Cyanogen will update after the source is released) for the camera to work. These hardware versions have new camera hardware. The kernel that works is from the Sprint/HTC 3.7 software release.

i plan on rooting via this method.

so my question is which rom/roms are compatible?(noticed that myn's is based off of 3.30 so im not sure if i can even use that) or is this info out of date or am i missing some information? , i just want all of my evo's features working, suggestions on roms would be appreciated
my evo specs are
Hardware Version: 0004
stock htc kernal
3.70 OTA
HBoot: 2.10
using 64bit win 7 also.
thanks in advance =)
this info you have quoted is out of date. htc (happily) released the #15 kernel source, which is fully compatible accross the board. myn took a long vacation, so if i were you, i would either flash one of the nightly roms he is making (despite the name, not every night though. maybe 3 times a week at most. my phone is getting sore from lack of flashing) or just wait for the stable release.
btw, welcome to the forums, and hopefully to root. i know a few people that would be happy to help you if you are stuck or having problems rooting. i am one of them. my info is all in my sig. just contact me and i will be happy to help you. even if you want a hand-holding walkthrough (but you seem more independent than that. you read!!!)
thanks for the reply dk. what about the #17 kernel's source?, im leaning torwards flashing a more stable rom, any suggestions for a solid one?, and thanks if i run into any problems i will message you

The kernel source for 17 hasn't been released yet that I have heard. For a stable rom I would recommend Myn's TwoPointTwo. The public release of RLS 5 is out tomorrow which will have all of the updated stuff. I might be a little biased as I am a user of Myn's rom, but I could also recommend Fresh to you as well. It all really depends on what you want out of a rom. If you like Htc Sense, then stick to either one of those and I would say Myn's. If you don't like Sense, go with Cyanogen.

If you're trying to flash an out of date rom, go get the #15 kernel from the dev section of this forum. Then all you need is to downgrade your PRI to 1.77 and you'll be able to flash any rom you want.
Enjoy!
I have hardware 0004.
Flash the rom first,
flash the #15 kernel (whichever one you want/like)
flash the PRI downgrade last (you can also find all PRI/radio/etc versions in the dev section)
nandroid first
wipe cache/dalvik between each flash.
Myn's rls5 (which will be released 1/7/11 for everyone), mikfroyo and the stock rom are all compatible with the hardware WITHOUT the PRI downgrade. The #15 kernel is recommended anyway, you might as well get it now.
what are the differences between #15 and #17?
leaning torwards myn's. not even rooted yet haha
i will see what happens in the next few days and report back(in the middle of moving), thanks for the info so far
I would also suggest virus roms. He makes amazing roms. As long as you have kernel 15, you should be able to flash any rom , I believe (anyone feel free to correct me). I dunno, I guess, I try to keep up with the new releases, I don't have hw 0004, but I know others who do who also run virus roms (I suppose it's just a matter of the kernel). Listen to others more than me
But welcome.

Hi there,
I have too a 004 Evo with the 2.10 hboot, and I rooted it with that method u posted and am currently running Myn's RLS4 with the latests radio, nv and wimax BUT with the pri at 1.77 and using netarchy's 4.2.3 kernel without any problems whatsoever, so from my pov you're good to go...
And fwiw, I am using latest RA's....
Just have one more question,do I need to flash updated radios our can I just leave them?
I'm not really sure what the benefits of updated ones are..I've read some scary stuff after people flashing radios, in combo at least
ok, first of all, kernel 15 is newer than 17 for some wird reaosn. 15 was just released on the 3.70 ota. sidology, the updated radios are just the newest released. all root methods besides unrevoked downgrade you waaaay back (to the first software release i think?) in order to exploit the phone. this is why you need to upgrade your radios back. myns 5 is out now, so you have no worries anymore. just root, and flash!
i may not be available to helping you root (i need to train some rats this week homework sucks) but i am free tomorrow and most weekends and will do all i can.

thanks for clearing that up =S, i thought 17 was newer lol. i havent rooted just yet, trying to gather info as i go , i still plan on using the 2.02/2.10 guide in my OP and just re flashing sprint lovers with the radio combo since im not sure if the one in the guide uses that one, then flash to myn's L5
just a side thought: i dont see many posts about people using unrevoked 3.3 much, if it doesnt downgrade radios shouldnt it be easier?
EDIT: just read that unrevoked is an easier method at bricking some peoples phones ,so nevermind lol
anyway thanks alot for the replys and info, its very much appreciated
unrevoked can sometimes brick people, or just corrupt your radio. if you dont mind wiping, then root manually. much safer, and you get to figure out how to actually so some stuff.

[Q] help for a newbie? :)

i have an evo that i bought when the op sys was still at 2.1. i rooted with unrevoked...no problems. i have recently decided to upgrade to a newer version of froyo, however i am not sure how to proceed.
last night, i installed unrevoked-forever, and now i need instructions on what rom to upgrade to and still keep root. i've browsed the forums, but it's all greek to me. i know how to flash a rom, and am fairly comfortable with doing that part of the procedure. i just want to upgrade the op sys to be able to take advantage of some of the new features that aren't present in 2.1, and NOT LOSE ROOT, as i use my tether often.
can anyone please guide a sistah on the right path?
If this doesnt help you I don't know what will lol

If you're looking to stay stock rooted try flashing the sprint lovers rom 2.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153
Download the "odexed" version of the rom from here. You will have the latest Froyo version as well as maintain root.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
if i were you, i'd try a custom rom. not just a rooted stock one. try myn's warm twopointtwo if you want a nice, smooth, fast, themed, stock-like experiance.
Try a sense rom like koni elite series 3 with a netarchy kernel then when ur used to.custom rom try a aosp I suggest destroyer v2 rom.or end of days

Guide to GB ROMS?

Hello all,
I like many others, I have installed the new GB ROM from the RUU supplied by HTC and it is "OK". However, i would like something else.
I have seen many guide to install ROMS and it seems more or less clear.
My problem, and maybe the problem for other noobs if the fact that there are so many ROMs out there. It is difficult to know which one to take.
For example, I am looking for plain old stock android 2.3 for the desire. No sense, no extra HTC apps. Just what google would have on the nexus 1. But, I cant figure out which ROM fits that.
Any ideas?
What would be great is sticky which lists the ROMs and their main features for all us noobs. Unless there is one already and I didnt see it
Get Oxygen Rom mate its nice and basic , if u want to go too basic get DevNull
But for starters i think u shud go with oxygen
Pm me if u want to discuss any other details

Well, if you installed official Gingerbread 3.14.405.1 RUU, you can't get root (yet). No root means that you can't install custom rom.

watch the video tutorial too - but it sounds like you want an AOSP rom
Yup, you definitely wanna try Oxygen + it was recently updated to Android 2.3.5.
It's sense free, all bloatware removed, very fast & minimalistic.
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=149 (it wasn't updated on XDA yet, but you can download it from there)
CyanogenMod7 will also fit you.
Should have read into what you were doing before you updated. You can't root now, which means no custom ROMs for you. HTC updated HBOOT so no more rooting for the time being. You're stuck with it till someone cracks it. Unlucky dude.
My recommendation:
Sense (2.1+3.0) : InsertCoin 1.0.9
AOSP: Oxygen
no MIUI from me...sorry..
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of days or weeks at most until I can root. I recall the same situation last update.
It sounds like oxygen is the way to go. Once the root is available I will give it a shot. Thanks.

Return to stock ROM

Hello all;
I would like to return to a stock ROM. I don't want to un-root, I just want HTC Sense back. Where can I get a stock ROM or what Sense ROM would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
There are a bunch of Sense roms in the dev section. Pretty much anything from Sense 2.1 to 3.5 Take a look and read the user responses
I'm in the same boat as the OP.
Please understand xda vets - someone rooting for the first time is very confused by all these acronyms, version numbers, etc. It's very overwhelming. I looked at the Inc2 dev section and it's like reading Sanskrit. I tried searching but people must use different terminology because my results weren't relevant to my question.
I just received a new Inc2 and all I want is a basic Sense rom that removes all of Verizon's bloatware. The phone has 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1. I'm really just looking for a stable rom. Just want to keep it simple for now.
Can someone recommend one?
I'd like to know as well. With my Droid X I could just SPF with RSD Lite and go back to an official original ROM, unrooted.
I haven't found any info on how to do this with my Incredible 2.
I doubt I would ever want to un-root and go back, but if for some reason I need to return the phone or trade it in, it would be nice to be able to go back to the phone's stock rom, un-rooted.
try Skyraider Zeus is very stable everything works,
