How to Backup SMS (Messages)? - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi
I have a HTC Mozart, but today i will buy a Samsung Omnia 7
Now i want to know how could i bring the SMS (Messages) to the Samsung?

You can't, I'm afraid. Only backup that exists today is the one taken before an OS upgrade and its doubtful that can be restored to another handset. And there is no 3rd party backup software so no practical way exists to backup your messages on WP7.

1. so i will lose all my messages?
2. could it work after the Nodo-Update?
3. whats with my contacts?

1. Yes, I've been through that multiple times when exchanging my Dell venue pro, all messages gone.
2. Doesn't look like Nodo addresses this in any way, and nothing in the Zune software has been changed either to accommodate this. Sad state, but this is becoming a trend with WP7.

How can i save my contacts?

If you have a Windows Live ID, sync it into Windows Live Contacts. It would sync automatically when your other phone also uses this ID. Of course U can also use Google / Exchange (Outlook) contacts if you have.
I suggest you use Windows Live one. If you don't want to merge the phone contacts into the Windows Live ID you are using for chatting, you could sign up a new one specially for your WP and phone contacts. Then you could manage your contacts on Widnows Live Mail client, Hotmail web page and also your phone itself. It's more convenient for editing your contacts info on PC instead of phone. They would sync to each other after any change you made.

Since you already have a Mozart those contacts should be in Windows Live and will transfer to your new handset.

thank you guys... now, i will go and buy the samsung omnia 7.
thank you HTC Mozart for the last four months

Transfer SMS

Hi,
Anyone know how to transfer SMS from Windows Mobile 6.x to Android 2.1?
WM app and Android app which can export/import SMS to certain format that both can understand?
Thanks.
Would it be possible to transfer texts from a "dumb phone" to my Android, e.g. by saving the texts to my SIM-card?
This is what I found:
http://android.modaco.com/content-p...sfered-windows-mobile-sms-to-android/page/40/
And there is also paid app:

Great find, thanks. I've just been through the entire process with sprite migrate and at no point did it prompt me to pay.
I was gonna ask this question about SE c905 sms to desire but then rememberd about myphoneexploer which can export sms from sony ericsson phones in various diff formats. should find 1 app that can import them onto desire. only issue with mpe is it dnt always save sent message times and dates so the chat like sms system on c905 wont transfer properly to desire as sent messages wud be in the wrong order.
I just did too It worked perfectly.
And I realize that this is still BETA version, that's why we dont need to pay.
The software will be expired on July 2010.

The Android OS

In the past, i've had the Touch Cruise, T-Diamond and the T-Diamond 2.
I've always hated Winmob since it always seemed that only amatures were making apps for it and it was full of bugs.
With the desire in the post I have questions for people that have it already.
Do we think that the Android OS is going to end up killing WinMob? Is it much better? There's lots of talk saying maybe iphone app creators, now they've made some money, are moving to the Android OS to get some of the market and that with the Nexus and Desire making noise, the app market will grow very quickly.
Also
I've never had an iphone/pod and refuse to get one, however their itunes app store seems like a good idea, does android have one? everyone's talking about the 'market place' thing or whatever, is that an app on the phone that you can shop for new ones on or something (i've never even touched on Android before and been in Afghan for the last 6 months so i've been a bit out of the loop.
Well I have been developing apps for Symbian and Windows Mobile, but I can tell you that Android is a lot more friendly to code in. So I expect that the amount of apps (quality ones ofc) in the market will just grow rapidly.
Yes the "Market" is Androids version of the iPhone app store.
yea..
Also
Is there any way of getting Windows live on it? I really liked having my mail and msn so easily accessed on my TD2.
Since i've got hotmail i've been told i can't get it so it's pushed to my mail right?
You can link your hotmail to the phone so it automatically retrieves them and i'm not sure about Live Messenger but there are a few apps for it just not sure there is an official one.

from what i've heard you can sync the desire with hotmail, but i dont think the official win live will work on it, however palringo substitues msn very well
You can use Windows Live Messenger through apps like Meebo, eBuddy and Fring.

I thought, if you use the free hotmail service, then you can't use pop3?
hense why Microsoft inbox doesn't work with hotmail right?
I think it works, I've read other people saying it worked even though they're on a free account.
I would recommend though you switch to googlemail, it's 10x better than hotmail.
Also congrats on coming back from Afghan.
I dont personally sync my hotmail (I use it as my junkmail account when I have to sign up to things) but my girlfriend syncs with it on her android based htc magic

why is googlemail so much better ?
at the end of the day, everyone uses msn messenger and windows live mail works great on PC.
not back from afghan yet, got 7 days left. Though time in Bastion is pretty relaxed now for us and we're just counting down the days
It's been a tough 6 months

You just get less spam, everything is managed better, you get more space get to send larger attachments etc.
You can use MSN with a googlemail address you just register it at passport.net

to be honest i dont care bout the size of attachments and the size cuz i know i got lots left anyway, and im not sure about trusting google with emails after the rumours of them reading the emails. lol
anyway so back to the point
is Android here to stay?
or do people think Winmob 7 will be better?

for me as a normal user/ graphic designer windows phone 7 is a total failure, it looks like a candy for twit-facebook addicts having trouble with their sight needing big buttons text etc.
definitely prefer droid and winmo6.5
Android will stay, WM7 will have to prove itself, and it will be difficult cuz it will be too locked (just like iCrap) it will be hard for WM7 to gain market shares at the beginning considering that the platform will be brand new (very different than other WM) and with the bad reputation the WM brand generated through out the past years.
I can easily say android is a very safe choice right now

Thinking about moving to android, few questions...

Im thinking about moving from WinMo to Android. If you could help me with few questions...
I dont use any Google services, no gmail as I rather use myowndomain.com... I want to sync with Outlook via usb (bluetooth, yeah maybe but usb would be better); contacts, calendar and tasks... Is there good sync software out there?
The main reason for me to have a smartphone for a cell phone, is so I dont need always have a laptop with me. This brings me to opening and editing office apps; I found "Documents to Go" that seems to be OK, anyone using it?
To me its also important to automatically sync folders while syncing with Outlook, any good programs for that? Ive been using MobSync with WinMo and I guess it could work with this too? I found also Microsoft SyncToy, never tried it though...
Can I get my tasks listed on Android today screen like on WinMo? I need to have be reminded of my tasks, otherwise I would spend ½ of my day reading at XDA and not doing any of the things Im supposed to do...
Any comments and help is appreciated... Thanks!

Yes you can, there are vagarious free apps on the market that even offer feature widgets/notes for the screens
Hi there!
Did you already buy a Desire? I've used winmob before and you sound like you're totally schooled at Outlook with usb sync. HTC has exchange service support and you can sync through usb, It was long time ago since I ever used active sync but a friend of mine use it on Desire and he was not satisfied.
There is calendarpad that can show on start screen as activities or regular day view. Editing documents are thought to be done through Google docs as it is thought to be faster than a full scale office program on the phone. You can other wise get quick office premium for editing offline.

Have you thought about using Google Apps for Domains, so that you can use your own domain with Google services?

How to (Possibly) change your windows live ID

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BACKUP! UNCONFIRMED!
To do this you need to have my Supreme Shortcuts application installed on your phone. This is not in the marketplace and you need a dev unlock or something similar to install it. At this point I STRONGLY suggest backing up your phone. I have NO IDEA if this really works and I have NOT tried it myself. Once you do that open the application and scroll down to "Live ID Setup". Pin it to your start screen using the check box or click the "?" button and a screen you havent seen since your last reset/purchased your phone will appear.
AGAIN USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BACKUP!

Anyone willing to test this out now that Microsoft is allowing you to change your live ID to an Outlook.com address?
Hello guys.
I created a new outlook account today. I went to my xbox and transfered my previous account to my new outlook account.
After doing that, I used IDSwitch an application that is available on Bazaar to change my windows live id to my new outlook account.
The only thing I lost were my contacts but microsoft offers you some tools to backup and restore your contacts trough their live and outlook sites.
Restoring your contacts to messenger will take some days, though. Since the tool for sending messenger invitations in the outlook sites blocks you from sending many invitations at once.
Anyway, I recommend that you backup your phone before trying this. And prepare to lose everything you have bought...
It worked really well for me and I got to keep everything I have bought , my achivements and everything (Except contacts)
.... but it could be a different case for you.
Good luck! =)
Purchases are tied to your Gamertag, not your email account. Your Gamertag is tied to your email account, but that association can be changed. Move your gamertag onto your new outlook.com email account, and you'll have your apps and music and whatnot back again.
Has anyone actually tried this? Really hopeful that it does, I could use this...

this doesn't work
it allows you to change it, and if you try purchase anything from an app store it comes with with a slightly ironic message telling you theres a problem with your ID and you should try a different one.

not in best english but you can understand the way
Do a backup with nokia's programm and then restore it with kies.
Hope to help (never tried it)
If you can export the N9 contacts to a .CSV which should be possible using the phone suite. Not sure though, since I have no experience with the N9. But if you can get the contacts as a .CSV file, then you can quite simply upload them Gmail Contacts with the account linked to your phone and they will automatically sync to your phone.

If contacts have special characters then this method is absolut fail (tried it two weeks ago with my wife's nokia. eg i have my contacts in Greek and the conversion is full of "?" )
The easiest and simplest way is to use google sync.
Just follow the step by step here. No additional app needed. Never used Meego but it has the contact sync built in.
And of course your Note 2 is linked to your google account so it would get the contacts automatically.
Hope that helped.
?
from nokia to sim-card
from sim-card to Note II.
Go to 1st line on my signature, post #4 'toolbox'
you will find a tool 'Transfer data' you can transfer with blutooth.
@ aventy
This will totally screw any contact with more than one number or with any attached additional data as email, address and so..
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
Second the gmail method: did that at least with three phones and it worked.
As a bonus you get a secure backup of your contacts...
Transfer Nokia contacts to Google and vice versa
You can use the following application developed by me.
There is a help in it, how to use it.
When you export all contacts using this application, use Google to import them.
At the end just sync your gmail with Your phone.
The password for the archive is : 1234
Have you ever tried Phone Transfer?
It's capable to transfer various data between different phones.
You may google it.
