Hi all.
Not having a WM or Android device around, and wanting to create a gold card for my Mozart, I managed to put together a bit of software using some resources from the web and made an application that appears to do just this.
You basically just insert your SD card into the laptop card reader, run the app as admin, and click Read CID.
Note: IT MUST BE A LAPTOP CARD READER THAT IS NOT VIA A USB ROOT DEVICE - USB CARD READERS ARE NO GOOD
It will return it pre-reversed and ready for the Gold Card website.
Now, from what I can tell, its working well - but I have no way of knowing.
So I am looking for a couple of people who HAVE ALREADY obtained their CID and created a goldcard successfully to test if the number returned from this app is correct.
Please let me know if anyone is keen and I will PM you to organise.
It will need to remain a private test as I have not yet obtained permission from the author of the code I used portions of to develop this app. If he is cool with releasing it, then it will be freely downloadable to all if it works.
I have sent you a pm
Ok thanks, I have enough testers now.
run Linux Live CD or Live USB, and read CID, very easy
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmcX/mmcX:yyyy/ cid
mmcX - ls /sys/class/mmc_host/
yyyy - ls /sys/class/mmc_host/mmcX

I just got my SX56 and was reading the forums on info about unlocking, here is my question...... is there anything that will just unlock the phone without all the other software installed at the same time? I would just like to leave all the original apps in place and only unlock it.....is it possible? and what steps should I take to do this. (yes I do realize that I'm a moron and know nothining about these phones)
Thanks in advance........
Fallsilent
Firstly try downloading xdaunlock copy this to your xda, go to your file explorer on xda, find the xdaunlock and double tap. If it unlocks the phone then great, if not you can use serial cable and xda manipulator , manipulator runs from the desktop and also may unlock your phone. If neither work you will need developers special edition rom , DO A FULL BACKUP OF ALL DATA AND PROGRAMS. I would suggest that before you use the special edition rom that you get an sd card, 64 megabytes is good, enter bootloader, choose ce to sd, this will backup your existing rom to the sd card in a bootable format so you can just insert the sd card, hold power while pushing reset, push action key, the rom will then copy back to the xda. HAVE A GOOD LOOK AROUND THE FORUM BEFORE PROCEEDING. Pay special attention to bootloader issues with certain revisions of bootloader. The ability to cook roms that contain extra software in the previously wasted space makes the xda a much more useful thing than in its original state. You can upgrade to an official WM2003 rom with extras if you wish, all for free. If your radio stack is working LEAVE IT ALONE, most xda's that are rendered banjaxed are as a result of botched radio stack upgrades so please dont look for the latest or best or prettiest stack, the one that works is the best and that is usually the one already residing in your xda. Have fun.
WOW! Thanks for that cruisin-thru, I will try it and see what happens. If it works, I'll write you into my will.
Is there any tool or software that will allow me to update my devices and flash them while I am on the Linux platform? The Linux platform is my os for my laptop; I do have windows running in at virtual box however I have no luck actually syncing the device through it. So I have quit trying however still would like to flash my roms and etc to my device because the laptop is just so convenient vs sitting at the desktop (keeping my ol' lady up).... Does anyone have any ideas for achieving this
since you did not say wat device you were using, this may or may not apply to you.......some devices can be upgraded using the sd card.
Yea sorry about that I am using the Xda Flame, Tilt, and Treo750 (have flashed from memory card before on the treo only: However lately it won't due it for some odd reason (worked before the first leaked WM6), But I found the ATT update off the comp worked fine). It's wierd I guess I am gonna have to study it a little more and figure out how to extract cabs. from my programs which require being synced to the comp (I think it can be done using WINRAR). Looks like I will have to buy an spare micro SD for flashing roms via the flashcard becuase I have my sd cards set just right for each device with minimal use of the computer (have a folder with alot of the needed software cabs). But hey thanks for the help I will give it a shot and see how it goes. I pulled out my bluetooth usb last night and will begin to figure out a way to sync my device with that. The install went good over on the virtual box. Will be able to see if I can get it to actually sync tonight since the old lady will be working late...
I have a slightly different Hero root method that persists the unlocked boot.img so you can do 'adb remount' to remount RW the file system... this was a key requirement for me!

Kudos to those who have gone before... I plan to add more stuff to the update.zip used here going forward.

yeah, adb as root is a must. it's the first thing i did when i received my hero
maybe it's better if you include wlan.ko in the update, because if someone who uses the update had a different kernel version wifi will not work
I´m receiving my HERO in a couple of hours. I´m going to use the 2Gb card that comes with the phone untill my new 16Gb class6 card arrives next week.
One question, do I need to "re-root" my device when I swap the cards next week?
I read something about that I have to have a card inserted during the root proccess.
I guess it is only used during the job...?!

To confirm, you do step 4 without the Hero connected to the PC?
Also, once rooted, what are my benefits? I understand I can move apps to the SD card? Is this done through the phone?
Well spotted, rejigged the instructions!
P
It seems to work...Thnx! no we will wait for a rom
Weird.. I keep getting "error: device not found" while in Device Manger I have a directory called "ADB Interface" with a device called "HTC Dream". Shouldn't that be "HTC Hero"?
So I do have a ADB device connected, but there's a fault somewhere..
EDIT: Found what I was doing wrong. I updated the driver for the SD card instead of the actual phone.. Stupid me. Great tutorial, but not fool-proof yet
As I enter 'adb push update-hero-signed.zip /sdcard/update.zip' I get the following error -
The program can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
What have I done wrong?
Okay, while typing this I realise I actually need to go to the folder I unzipped this too and then into the Hero folder. Maybe add this to instructions? Or is it just me being stupid?
Okay, seemed very easy (how do I check it worked).
I'm now looking at this about how to move apps to the SD card -
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Haykuro_Apps_to_SD
What does it refer to when it says "Setup in 5.0.1 onwards"?
Looks a little complex to me
I assume there are no custom ROM's out just yet...?
What is the difference with that method? Why hybrid? What is adb remount for?
I am really grateful that a root has been found. However as my card reader is broken, I am currently unable to make a goldcard and so cannot root frustratingly. Does anyone know of a way to root without one please? Thanks in advance.
Not possible, sorry!
But then again, you don't need a card reader, you can use the phone (that's how I did it). Just follow the Modaco guide.
Sorry I am not actually a member of Modaco, do you think you could the link for the guide ( I assume you mean for creating goldcard in phone.) Cheers.
Here it is, you don't have to be a registered member to view forum posts:

A more detailed guide here:

(ignore the parts about the cardreader)
Thanks, but what I mean is that in the end the SD card need s to be connected to the computer and I can't do this last bit.

Pretend that your phone is the card reader Mount it as storage as you would when you add music or files to it. (not sync or charge obviously) and follow the guide.
Good luck
Ahh that may've been where I went wrong, I didnt mount as stroraage. Will try, thanks.
i was wondering if there was an easy way to debrand htc desire.
i came across a video on you tube 'i cant post links at the moment so you would have to manually search for debrand htc desire by fonefunshop
in this video this guy uses a goldcard and debrands without pc, which they sell on their website.
is there anyway i would be able to create the same sort of thing?
at the moment i got a product 'XTCCLIP' which i use to create goldcards in order to unlock htc phones.
please help.
thanks
Well, to create a gold card, it's best to have a pc and media card reader. Shouldn't be a problem.
Then root, install rom manager, flash to a new ROM, then use sandpaper to remove the HTC logo.
(or you can flash the old fashioned way like I do)
The gold card maker, you shouldn't have to pay for. Plenty of them for free.
Probably what they didn't show you, is that you typically have to have a pc to make the gold card. Not to mention, they had to download a very large file (ROM for flashing) which would mean you need Wifi without a pc and broadband connection.
i know you need a pc, but i just to create a gold they way they have created it. so if you know please help me out and ill download the necessary files.
Here is what I used for the gold card;
http://www.droid-den.com/android-guides/android-guide-how-to-create-a-gold-card
Note, that you need a PC to do this.
debrand
i have now created a goldcard.
at the moment i am on orange froyo 2.2 rom.
i need unbranded stock froyo rom, can you help.
what do i do when i do get the rom do i just paste on the sd card(golcard) and go into bootloader?
Look for stock 2.2 froyo, and you should be able to find one.
I have one I can e-mail, but not sure if it's the right one that "I" used.
And you need to look for specific instructions.
Link, but you will have to "root" your desire,,,, easy, and the instructions are on this site...
