Any app/theme/kernel .zip you can remove from your SD for extra space after installing it. Once it is installed it will stay.
thanks for the reply's guys very much appreciated.

I attached an image. I'm using Unrevoked. Also, the phone no longer asks me if I want to charge only or mount the phone as a storage device etc when I plug it in. It just starts charging and I can still browse all the files on the SD card through the Windows Explorer browser.
It sounds like your Evo is not reading your SD Card. Can you browse to it in a file manager?
I think I got it working now. Thanks.
Once I have everything backed up to /sdcard/Titanium do I copy that to my PC somewhere so if I decide to flash a custom ROM I would then copy it back onto the SD card and restore? Is that the idea?

You don't have to copy it to your PC. Flashing a new rom won't touch your SD Card unless your format it or partition it for Apps2sd
Has anyone used titanium to move from another device to the evo?
Coming from the hero, I'm wondering if I can put my hero's sdcard in the evo and go from there...

I did. When coming from my nexus to the evo. You need to make sure you format your Apps2sd partition (if you use one) though. Other than that, it worked fine for me

do you mean the new native froyo apps2sd or the old style? if you mean the new one no, the old one you just have to format your ext partition, unless you dont have one, then obviously you would have to format to create a new ext partiton
Thanks for the reply
I ment the native froyo apps2sd......
I have downloaded a few apps to try and none have the option to move to SD card....they are greyed out.
Does this mean they are not updated yet to sent to SD card or maybe i need to use other steps to do this?
Can you tell me a free app that can be used on SD card so i can try please.
Cheers.
i heard theres a problem with either htc's new kernel or the new build of froyo not letting you save apps to a sd card, try leedroids or udk's roms as they use older builds and kernels or try this app see if it works, just set the install location to external
Thanks!
I installed Leedroids rom and installed ModinstallLocation....when i check manage applications, there is option there now to move to sd card but after i click on it....it is still highlighted to move to sd card.
I think it is still installing to phone memory.

the froyo apps2sd is wank to be honest lol it takes as much space on your fone than your sd card, to check its working look in the android secure folder on ur sd card, if there are apk's there its working, you'll be alot better just using the classic version tho
I don't have a card reader and i just got a new 16gb micro sd. once im booted up into CM7 RC2 it says error and i need to format the card. so i click ok and it tells me it cant format it. What am I doing wrong?

There is nothing wrong with your card. The SD card error is a known bug with CM7. Deleting the LOST.DIR folder should eliminate the SD card error message. If you feel you want to format it anyway, go into recovery and select "wipe SD Card" if you're using amon RA as your recovery.

How do i get to the .lostdir? when i plug the phone into the computer it wont mount the sdcard. is that because its not formated for the phone?
this is the first time i've put a brand new sdcard in.
im on clockwork. should i flash to amon_ra for this?

Did you have CM7 installed PRIOR TO installing the new SD card or was the new card inserted before CM7? If the latter, a LOST.DIR folder *should* be on the root of the card. If not, it's no biggie, just know that the SD card error is a known bug. If the new card was inserted after CM7, then it may indeed need to be formatted thus the reason your PC is not recognizing it. The cards I have, were already formatted and readable when I purchased them. You could use the EVO to format the card for you in the settings-SD card & Phone Storage menu or it's equivalent in CM7 or you can go into recovery and format it. Either way is sufficient and effective.
neither format method i tried works.
ive had CM7 RC2 already running on the phone for a while(since early march)
most things worked fine.
until
ordered the new card and got the card yesterday.
took the old one out
put in the new
and then i get the errors.
can i screw anything up in Clockwork if i try unmounting and mounting and such?
also what is "format sd-ext"? do i need to do that?

Unmounting & mounting will not destroy anything in and of itself, however, the card must be mounted in order for you to format it. Format sd-ext means formatting that particular partition, but not the entire card. I recommend you switch to amon RA v2.3. The menus are, in my opinion, clearer and pretty self explanatory. You can format/wipe the entire SD card as well as partition it. You can download it from http://goo.gl/cgh5e
A detailed description of every menu can be downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=516947&d=1297626700
To install it:
Place PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sd card.
Boot the phone into the bootloader by powering the phone down, then press the power and the volume down buttons at the same time.
Once the phone boots into the bootloader the phone will automatically recognize the zip file. It will ask if you would like to update, select yes and let it do it's thing and you will be good to go
thanks for the help!

You're very welcome. Enjoy your weekend...
wow.
ok i put my old original card back in and flashed CM7 RC4
put the new "unworking" sdcard in
and boom
worked seemlessly. except when i plug into the computer there are only 3 folders. can i just make a music folder?
so i guess the issue was RC2?
i also updated cwm from 2.5 to 3.0something so i could flash amon from rom manager.
but never did anything with it
yeah man. Enjoy your weekend too!

I do recommend amon RA v2.3. It is a very solid recovery. I also recommend that you do it manually. The installation takes less than 10 seconds. Furthermore, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with wiping & flashing from within recovery. Anyway, I'm glad you got everything taken care of. Take care, my friend....

I'm almost positive that this question can be answered with common sense...but just in case:
My SD card is running low on memory and I was wondering about whether or not I can delete the ROM .zip folder from my SD card after flashing it. Or does the .zip folder need to be on the card for the ROM to boot up? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

Yes you can if you have already installed the zip. You can also remove nandroid backups if you have them on your computer. You can push them all back to the phone while connected and in recovery.

Thank you. I don't really mess around with adb just because my computer and my phone do not get along at all. It won't even recognize my SD card when I connect it through the phone. I have to put the card in a special SD card reader.

Actually if you're using Amon Ra recovery (recommended by every dev I've seen), you can access your sd card on your pc using the "USB toggle" menu option. (Saved me once when I accidentally wiped my sd card before flashing a new rom).
Of course if you still can't access the sd using that option, then that's a hardware issue, yes?
Whenever I flash a new ROM the instructions always say to download the .zip to a computer then move it to the SD card etc.. Etc.. (You know the drill) Anyway, I've been thinking, you can download .zip files to your phone, so why do i need a computer?
Can't I just download it to my phones SD card, factory reset, wipe cache and then flash it? I really don't see the need for a computer.
Or have I just been naive and haven't heard of any bugs yet? Thanks!

You don't need a computer. You're indeed right to think that. You don't even have to dl it to the root of your sd card because recoveries are file managers anyways.

That saves a bunch of time then. I don't understand why all devs to download to a PC first..
Idk either. Probably because dling to Android from the internet can be buggy.

the most likely reason is that because most roms are 100mb plus in size and the average user likes to test/experiement with various roms and most likely wont delete it from their phone each time, its just smarter in terms of storage to dl to computer but to the sd card is the same ting.
