Hey. Anybody try this rom(i now its for HD2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953078
on desire? maybe we can edit it to work.. and why? to prove that it can be done
and it would be cool to have maybe dual boot, android and wp7? i know that there are launchers... but launcher is not like that so please tell me if its possible

Probably possible but there isn't a cry out for it so developers won't port it.

its maybe possible without porting? i dont dare to do this, because MAGLDR delete all data on the phone.. so if something is wrong... maybe someone try it and tell us here?
aren't there licensing issues with porting windows phone 7 around too?

why? its alreadly ported to HD2 and there are no licensing issues (i think)
I'd love to see a WP7 ROM... Actually I like flashing ROMS so I bought this device thinking that the WP7 ROM will be ported. Chose it over the HD2 because of its size and display actually and thought that it has basically the same possibilities when it comes to flashing all kinds of ROMS.. A bit disappointed but hey - I would probably just try the WP7 ROM and then come back to Android anyway.
lol i'd love to see that too actually also an ios port if possible. I mean nowadays where flashing roms has become so easy and fast I would just love the freak people out having a phone there and basically switching between android WP7 and Ios

Still doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. Windows requires the handset to be licensed as Windows needs to be activated - same as on a PC
It'll be technically illegal to run WP7 on anything other than a WP7 handset. Besides, the Desire would need new drivers written from scratch to work
with HD2 being a windows mobile originally would this cover windows phone perhaps?
as desire is an android phone - then thats where you'll probably hit the issues

You dont seem to understand how things work, just like on a pc, the operating system need an enviroment to boot from, this is called the bootloader, during the initial boot phaze alot is going on, mainly the initalization of hardware, now our bootloader is not compatible with WP7, it would be like using linux to try and boot windows.... so for WP7 to even boot a whole new bootloader, and hardware drivers must be written. Problem two is the radio, the desire radio was written with the android open source project in mind, it would not be compatible with WP7, so a new radio would have to be written. Problem 3. The nand chip uses an EXT file system on the desire, WP7 uses NTFS, so a tool would have to be written to format the nand chip.... and finally as has been said before, without buying a WP7 licence it would be piracy, amd XDA would almost certainly have to deal with retaliation from microsoft.

buy a w7 phone... far better ...
not sure why you would .. unless you dont like androids....
Anyway there are theams you can get , whic wil give you the glowing win 7 mobile look...
mmm seems like one of the requirement is wm6.5 rom (if you come from android nand directly wp7 might not boot)

this project isnt going to happen, especially on here anyway as XDA doesnt condone piracy which is essentially what your talking about doing.

You want to put windows onto an android phone?
Virtually everyone that owns a Leo (HD2) has been trying to do the opposite since they got their handset.
In short. No
There are far too few interested for any chef to bother.
There are Windows Phone 7 themes and apps that can replicate the look.
If you get Launcher pro and pay for the extras then i recommend having a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781455
If anything it looks better than WP7
Also have a look in the market (from your phone) for windows phone android.
Its a work in progress app that will give you the awful blue tiles effect that you want.
There is also Zune Home, This looks like the older windows 6.5
Hope this helps (if it does hit the thanks button)

Indeed. of course the desire would end up "crap"
Unfortunately it would never happen mate. WP7 is closed source. Microsoft isn't too happy with people flashing it to the HD2 (leo) and that runs wm 6.5.
Anyhow android is so much better. But try metro or launcher7 on the market. There's free and pay for apps.
HTC Desire
Not a rom, but try "Launcher 7" from the market. It's a launcher that gives the look of WM7.
Not sure if it's any good, not tried it personally.
I'd be tempted to try and get a HD2 if I was interested in WP7 - because of the ability to run WM6.5/WP7/Android/Windows98/etc.
I can't see it coming to the Desire anytime soon - as already said - lack of interest to port something that will be very difficult
I don't like the WP7 launchers. Want one? Then get a WP7 phone. or the hd2 as that beast does near enough anything. Except ios and palms software ofcourse ;-)
HTC Desire
I know this is an old thread but I did not feel like opening a new one for a question that's already asked.
So the question is: Can WP7 run on a HTC Desire. While it would be difficult to do, i'm absolutely sure that someone would be able to do it. Why?
1: HTC HD2. It can run Android, it can run WP7. This makes the point "WP7 is closed source so it's not possible" invalid.
2: Somebody made Ubuntu run on a HTC Desire. also there is a lot of information on the bootloader of Android devices and I'm sure there is some info on the Windows Mobile/Phone bootloaders.
3: Android 4 ICS is already running on the HTC Desire with Hardware Acceleration, even though the drivers needed are not published by the maker (Quallcomm if I remember). This either means that someone is doing extra work of making existing drivers work or that someone is actually making th new drivers.
4: HTC uses the same kind of chips for their whole lineup. Take for example the HTC Mozart:
CPU: Qualcomm QSD8250
Memory: 576 MB RAM; 512 MB ROM
GPU: Adreno 200
Resolution: 800x480
Those are 4 of the most important parts of any phone that may cause problems because of drivers. Also the HTC Trophy and HTC Radar have the same camera resolution as the one in the HTC Desire, so they may be the same.
All in all, I think it should be possible to port WP7 to the Desire. Main problem would be to find someone that actually cares enough to put lots of time in it and also knows the details on both Android and WP7.
Other main problem is that WP7 is closed source, which would make the developers process take a lot longer, discouraging devs even more to try it.
So let me know how your (educated!!!) views are on this subject.
I got HTC Desire, but I dont like Android. Still no chance flash it to WP7 ?
Ehh I'm waiting for wp7 too. Know that feel Bros.

I've just upgraded to a Sensation, have my desire lying around and I wanted to know the same thing... Looking back at it now its sluggish on my ROM. I fancy trying wp7 but there don't seem to be any ROM's around still. I think that with a bit of tweaking for the desire it would be cool... We just need a chef to cook something like this up... Please, if anyone has the skills...

I know Android is better (I am running the CM7 nightly), but I thought it might be nice if we could get some sort of actual ROM for the D. Inc. that was WP7.
Not a dev, but I don't think that is possible. You can get home replacements that replicate it, but you're pretty much stuck with android on your incredible. There was a project to port webOS over to the desire, but that had pretty much hit a dead end the last time that I checked.
I would love to see how wp7 works on our device too. Just read hd2 has dual boot android and wp7 roms running. Port maybe? If nothing, to satisfy curiosities and to have another rom to show off?
P. S. My sig is indicative of how I look at roms...

I know a poster from another forum who has a HD2 running android. Would be nice if we could run wp7.
I know. I'm kind of a ROM whore too, but I tend to end up with CM7 nightlies simply because it's the fastest unskinned gingerbread build out there for the Inc.

Even though what you are asking my require "development", it is in fact, not development in itself and therefore it belongs in "q and a". I mean think about it, you even put [q] in your thread title.
It is much easier to get android running on a non-Android native phone because Android's code is open sourced whereas WP7 or webOS is not. Thus making it much more difficult if not impossible to port to our devices.
you know what i find funny?? we all say that our phone and XX OS is so much better than all others (Ios, Android, WP7...) but then we go and try to make our Android look like WP7 with home replacements, or ROMs like MIUI for the IPhone crowd...
I had Anroid eclair running on my HTC Touch Pro so I to am guilty of it, I just think it is funny.

#1 This is in the wrong section, and don't try to play dumb about it, you have a Q in your thread title, stating its a question.
To the above quote, they already have android running on the iPhone - http://linuxoniphone.blogspot.com/2010/04/ive-been-working-on-this-quietly-in.html
i was so harsh because the OP didnt even try a search to read the other 20 threads about putting WP7 on our device
I do believe putting windows on a non windows phone is a violation on some law.. yadda yadda
android is open source thats why its so widley available
The HD2 was MEANT for WP7 but Microsoft didnt release in time and The HD2 is windows native so thats why they could port it
Seems like W7 is a few steps behind Android anyways, so....wouldn't touch it, unless it was just from curiosity.
Since the HD2 carries pretty much the same specs as our phone in terms of processor and it can run Android as well as WP7 then what I am trying to ask is what's the limitation on our phone? Besides our radio being CDMA instead of GSM.
Wait til verizon has the htc trophy (wp7. Soon.) Party with colored blocks. Return for android again.Buy a zune. Be thankful.

Hello, it's possible that in near future I'll need some WP7 device for app testing/debugging. Desire and Mozart are quite similar in HW specs (like HD7 and HD2 where WP7 port exists). So my question is, can be WP7 ROM ported on Desire? even if phone features won't work... thanks
No. Few reasons. There is just no interest in WM being on the Desire. And even if someone did it they would have a battle on their hands with Microsoft. Also, the bootloader will be way way different and so on. So in a nutshell.... it is possible, but no one is stupid enough or not going to waste their time.
thanks for answer, then it seems I'll have to change Desire for some WP7 device

Did you read my first post? I've mentioned the reason there - application developement for WP7. And of course WP7 has good emulator (definitely better than Android, which is painfully slow), but sometimes it's just better or in some cases even needed to test on real device.

I dont understand how you can effectively debug a wp7 application on "alien" hardware.
But anyway, its not been done before, you would be the first (as far as I know). You would need to make wp7 work on the desire yourself. You need to be a rom developer and an extremely experienced one at that.
rootSU: yes, I agree. It might sound weird, but I wanted to reuse my Desire (And I like the idea of dualboot, before Desire I had HTC Touch Pro with WinMo&Android). And I suppose that the biggest problem of WP7 would be bootloader...
Well, it's officially been two months since I got my G2. What else is there left for me to do?
- I've already got SIM Unlock, superCID, and radio S-OFF.
- I've already got CM7 Nightly 92 w/ Pershoot's latest Gingerbread kernel.
- I've already got backups of Virtuous, Virtuous G-Lite, and CM7.
- I've already installed Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and set up lxde.
- I've already overclocked and underclocked my CPU.
What else is there left for me to do? Can I dual-boot between different mobile operating system platforms (i.e. Symbian^3/Maemo 5, Windows Mobile, HP webOS/Palm OS, etc.)? Can I do ANYTHING else other than flash a ROM/Kernel and overclock? Or is this it?
You have done pretty much everything there is to. The next step is start cooking up your own stuff. I'm guessing you all ready have adb working. You can download apk manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701 and start doing some themeing of your own or port some themes for your favourite roms.
And if your feeling really adventurous have a go at building your own roms, there is a really easy to use rom kitchen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246

Windows Phone 7 is a closed platform, so its pretty close to impossible to port it to other platforms, in my understanding. I believe the only reason HD2 can run it, is because MS actually developed a WP7 version for HD2. As far as the old Windows Mobile versions, its obsolete and a pile, and the only reason to run it, is if you need to run some legacy software. Similarly, Symbian is all but dead at this point, as Nokia moves to WP7.

Not too familiar with the Blackstone, but probably just a matter of developer interest. The Blackstone seems to have pretty similar specs to my old Touch Pro 2 (in terms of CPU and memory), and the TP2 does run Android. Although the TP2 Android project was pretty slow and laggy when I last played with it in December or so (but it looks like a lot more work has been done on the project).

Well for starters you could settle down and control your compulsiveness to jack with your phone. Android is probably the best OS out there, no reason to port to an inferior one. You are the first I have heard that has wanted a port to all these other variances. Most others are happy with the Android OS and like the custom ROMs and ways we can customize our devices already.
My advice to you... find a well paying job, squander all your money with buying yourself a brand new phone every month or two without contract. Maybe port all this other crap yourself. You seem to complain a lot, so intead of doing that, make your own ports and ROMs. That oughta make you happy

I don't really know what you are expecting, its a phone. how much more could you want it do to? compare it a iPhone, then you would be limited. If your desperate for a Touchwiz or Motoblur Rom, port it your self. The reason why these ROM's haven't been done is because there not rated very highly particularly Motoblur.

dude, what else do you want to do? I guess that's a good question to ask. There are literary tons of stuff to do with your phone. There are numerous ports with this phone you can try. You wanna play dual core games like samuarai vengeance 2 eventhough you don't have dual core? Go right ahead with chainfire3d. You can theme your phone how ever you want with icons, colors, ANYTHING. What other operating system allows you to do this? How would you be better off with ANY other OS? You can easily flash themes and such to make it looks like touchwiz, or motoblur. you can even make it look like honeycomb for goodness sake. Fool around with the UOT kitchen and cook up some fancy looking themes are icons.
I suggest you do a little searching around on xda, OTHER than the G2 thread because there are tons of stuff that apply to alot of phones that aren't just found in that device's forum. Its dumb for you to judge the one OS that actually ALLOWS you to do whatever you want to it.
The end.

PEANUT BUTTA JELLY TIME!!! GIVE SOMEBODY A HIGH 5..THEN SHOW THEM UR AWESOME ROM

You could take a screw driver to your phone.. open it into pieces.. I don't think it would be so restricted anymore.

Giving my opinion does not make me a know-it-all, and nothing I said implies that I think I know more than you. You're going to come in here throwing around foul language and calling people names, and still expect people to give you ideas?
You seem fixated on just loaded different OSes, and just don't want to accept the answers people are giving you. People have already gave tons of suggestions. But you aren't interested in listening.
MotoBlur and TouchWiz are trash, anyway. Not much more than cosmetic changes to the launcher, and other general theming. You can easily mess around with those things yourself, as several others have already suggested.

Because he's sharing chipset with many Win7 phones...
Thanks in advance...
WinMo7 is a serious downgrade to Gingerbread. Why bother? It's like Android 1.5
Well let's just say I'm not a fan of Android... Is it going to be possible in some time? Replacing the phone is not an option
You are only one who want it.
Make it your self, no one other will (at last for free)

Then you got the wrong phone to begin with.
And, no it is not even remotely possible.
really .....
yes it may be possible, but only a idiot would do. wp7 was dead before release, well i can just tell from germany, sales for wp7 phones are deeper than ever.
if you really want wp7 on your device, do it yourself!
noone will ever port an OS that is less powerful to an android device.
if you want to port yourseld you will run into some problems because wp7 is not opensources,so you will need to find a similar device, dump the rom and change binarys with hexeditor etc.etc.....
but for my interest, what do you like more on wp7 than android?
