Froyo > Gingerbread? - Desire General

Just want to know what people think, do they prefer Froyo or Gingerbread?
Personally I am 100% not keen on the way Gingerbread looks and feels (the orange bumper thing(?) at the top and bottom which glows really irritates me and the icons on the notification bar also).
I'm sticking with Oxygen 1.0.4 stock, well with LauncherPro and that's what I'm happy with. I can get almost 2 days of battery life with the configuration I have at present, and everything is smooth, so why change? I don't think there is a need to!

i prefer the way Gingerbread looks, it has some more functionality, its also smoother than Froyo and apparently has a better battery life so far had no issues with the GingerVillain Rom and ill never go back to Froyo

And you could try one of the themes available which change the orange coliur

I prefer gingerbread over froyo. Personally I like the new look the task bar and icons. I like the lockscreen and animations. I use devNULL rom and the speed and battery life has tottaly transformed my phone.

It's all down to personal preference obviously but I dare say as OEMs start releasing gingerbread for their devices they'll add and remove stuff from the UI.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

Gingerbread by far. Looks a lot better, more cleaner and runs smoother. Battery life is way better too. It is down to personal preference but I guess most of us are happy with gingerbread.

Looks are a matter of personal taste.
I'm on gingervillain for a while now.
I love it , don't miss the sense or froyo at all.
Froyo and sense are history for me, no plans to go back.
Battery life is so much better now, a lot more than i thought it was possible.
And for the orange glow? using a honeybread theme, which turns into nice blue glow.

i prefer gingerbread ainec

I'm 50/50 atm, I like Gingerbread's new design and features, but performance has somewhat reduced from FroYo, however that may change once the official Desire update comes out.

Trust me man. Stick with oxygen 1.0.4. Ginger is noot smooth as froyo( yet). All who say its smoother was probably on sense rom before or have high tolerance to low fps aka blind. I'll probably get back to froyo too.

I've been using the cyanogenmod 7 RC1 for awhile now and I'm quite happy with it. I personally like the way it looks.

What is hands down the BEST sense ROM

So here's my question- I love Cyanogen but haven't really given sense a shot. I went from Eris to D1 to Fascinate to Droid X to Inc. I really like the Inc so much more than all the others but wanted to try and do it right the first time. What Sense ROM are you all using that yields the most stability/battery life/features? Kernel advice? Thanks in advance.
I like stock sense so I use virtuous but as far as kernels right now Chad has the best kernels and there easy to find in the development section.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I use the stock 2.2 leaked ROM from August (rooted).
All it's missing is full bluetooth features for BT mouse and keyboards.
I have tried many.
Myn's Warm Two Point Two rls4 is currently on my phone.
This is the best ROM out now in my eyes. I like sense, but I am not to big a fan of plain vanilla android, so I don't really use anything like Cyanogen. Maybe if Koush makes a vanilla gingerbread ROM I would use that, but for now I like sense 2.2
Warm Two Point Two has been on my phone the longest compared to any other ROM.
*Have had barely any FC's at all. I can't even think of the last time it happened.
*Fast
*Looks sweet as default without theme.
Using Kernel included with ROM and 2.15.00.11.19 radio
1348 score in Quadrant
38MFLOPS in Linpack
Stability - Virtuous, Uncommon Sense and Redemption. They have all been around and are tried and true. If I am not mistaken, Myn's Warm 2.2 is an Evo based rom and oyu can customize it (I have not flashed it). I am running Redemptive, it is an Evo/Inc hybrid, there are a number of good themes out there and Lou has also released a "senseless" version. Lots of great options.
As far as kernals go, they interact differently with each Rom. Chad is doing some great work as well as Lou. On Battery life... it is so subjective, I don't know why anyone talks about it. I have a stock battery and get 6-8 hours out of it regardless of the Rom or Kernal. I am just glad that it charges fast again (about 1% every minute and a half).
Warm TwoPointTwo with the kernel included with it. Stable, fast, and passable battery life (still gonna buy a 1750mAh battery though)
I use Desire Z. Epic speed and epic benchmarks. Some bugs.
+1 for Myn's Warm Two Point Two rls4
Smooth, clean, and stable. Best Incredible ROM I've tried hands down.
If you're looking for more enhancements/features to a sense rom, I highly recommend Skyraider Sense. In addition to having the up-to-date sense framework, extra goodies are included such as the power control toggles in the drop-down notification bar. Other nice additions like the gingerbread keyboard baked into the rom is convienient as well. I've been running the latest Skyraider Sense for a while now and it has been rock steady achieving uptimes up to 166 hours before having to reboot to flash something.
Skyraider is basically Stock Sense +, with the + indicating some additional goodies without veering too far away from the stock experience.
As for a kernel, I have one that's been my tried-and-true for months now. That is adrynalyne's undervolted. Fantastic battery life when paired with setcpu (as it was designed to play nice with it) and great stability. The only problem with it is that it only uses the conservative governer well, so if you really like ondemand or interactive you may want to look elsewhere. Despite this, it runs perfectly fine for me. The only percieved difference is in the quadrant score, which ultimately means not so much.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
I absolutely Loved loved loved Lou's Redemptive Revolution with the stock .17 kernel. That ROM is lightning fast and I could easily score 30+ hours of battery life with a 1750 mAH battery from Seido and Juice Defender/Set CPU Profiles.
Right now I'm just screwing with CM6.1 because I basically have Android ADD. I flash a new ROM nearly every week it seems.
EDIT: making this post kind of gave me the urge to flash a new ROM. I'm thinking about using his Senseless Redemptive Revolution, because I really dig Launcher Pro, plus I paid for it so I might as well use it.
SkyRaider is almost 100% stock sense and I have 0 problems with it. Smooth, fast, and the Dev is very responsive to everyone's questions.
Myn's Warm 2.2 easily.

I put my vote in for Virtuous. I am currently running v3.2 rom with the virtuous custom kernel v3. It runs smooth and I have never had a single problem or issue. As far as i've seen everything works and it is a huge improovement in battery life compared to stock when combined with setcpu and advanced task killer froyo.

I agree that Virtuous 3.2 (and 3.1 before it) are closest to the pure Sense experience, at least on the Incredible. It's also easy to install (no wipe required) and easy to mod. I've switched a few notification bar icons and the lock screen without a problem. The custom kernel #3 that comes with 3.2 handles battery life nicely, too.
A few comments:
1. There is a reason there are 5 desire Z based inc roms out there - 4 in the last 2 weeks or so. New sense beats the pants out of old sense roms both in terms of speed and functionality. There might be some bugs but the overall experience is radically superior. Try one out for a few days. You will like them.
2. MIUI is probably the most beautiful of the AOSP Roms - you must have that in your roms to try list. Its AOSP but really pretty
I have tried all the regular older sense roms too but these are what I have gravitated to.
I appreciate everyones feedback. I've just decided to keep it aosp. I like the lightness and quickness of it all. As far as miui goes- seems kinda like running an iPhone theme. I don't want an iPhone. Also- app management seems retarded. No drawer?

Its personal preferences I guess. Coming from am iphone, I found the concept of just one app drawer wherein all apps are arranged only alphabetically very odd and confusing. Miui attracted me because I finally saw some easy way to organize them by type. Plus I always hated having only 7 home screens to work with. I ended up with 9 in miui because I love widgets for news, email, messages, facebook, twitter etc. and with the folders and so many widgets, I needed more screens... For me, widgets is one of android's big advantages over the iphone. and I need more screens for more widgets!

Best Aosp GB ?

Hey fellows
Well, just post your opinion on the subject matter and/or experience with hens said (which is the best).
I just want to know the communities thoughts on this. (as well as possibly flashing one myself, cuz i've i am sick on flashing a new version of these Sense rom's)
Redux, its speed is incredible.
Tbh a rom depends on your needs and your own personal tastes. I have flashed so many aosp roms and have settled on miui. It has what I need and its fast. Just keep trying ruins till you like one.
Its taken me months, about 6 ish to stop flashing.
Swyped...
Oxygen works best for me. Fairly straightforward with only a few mods. Almost hack free.
Pretty much plain 2.3.4 but with extended power controls, pull-down notification and an updater.
I have it running with Launcherpro and its very smooth and very good battery life.

Best Evo rom? and Why?

i just got my evo today, came from a samsung vibrant. My vibrant was rooted and flashed, i just rooted my evo and wanted to get insight and opinions of what Evo roms were fast and snappy but great on battery too. Thanks
MikG 2.1 update. i LOVE this rom due to the Lockscreen and the high stabability of it. plus netflix works great on it now. gingerbread is self ROCKS. the battery life on this rom is amazing compared to most ive used. i use the phone frequently. its been the fastest gingerbread rom today as far as i've tested.
another great rom to look at is MIUI official. very customizable to get it to look the way like it. edit boot video right from the phone and so much more. somewhat stable lately. few issues i had. With MIUI if you have the settings right. and good kernal. ive had this phone last 2 days with out charging on high usage.
Dude MIUI is the best ROM period.. over 100 different themes, and you can even build your own theme taking parts from each and every theme
You can have Theme A's lockscreen
Theme B's fonts
Theme C's wallpaper
Theme D's Phone Dialing theme
Theme E's notification bar and setup
Therefor MIUI is like 1000 roms in one, and you can literally build every single aspect of the ROM completely customized to your liking, and with built in "Theme Manager" it's EXTREMELY simple to do, can completely change your entire phone's appearance 10x in 5 minutes... MIUI is by far the best "professionally done and clean looking" and complete ROM out there
I personally love the kingdom b1.3 rom. Comes with sense 3.0. Best way to figure out what one is the best, is to try a few of them out. Everyone likes different roms for different reasons, its all about what you like..

a good stable rom is probaly myns warm 2.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471 everything works and great theme
but i like cm7

I hate Sense but I love SRS enhancement. Sense ROMS always drain fast for me and are memory consuming. Anyone suffering the same pain as me?

I came over from a Galaxy S 4G and I knew what I was getting when I switched. I must say now that I have it I really hate sense!! I knew there was an MIUI available so the sense only lasted about 20 minutes after un-boxing.
Really? I'm the exact opposite. AOSP is quick with good battery life but I can't stand it. It feels incomplete to me. Sense is the best to me, even though it might be a little slower and use more battery.
On a side note why would you want a HTC phone if you dislike Sense?
I am in agreement with you on this, the sense are a little flashy out of all the roms. They also have a lot of extra mods and different settings, which to me gives it a heavy feeling. The asop and akop aren't heavy at all, and they still have the same customization options that I want, yet very easy to use. I love my ICS, I loved CM7, i always find myself using an asop over sense

I did the exact same thing although I had to wait for the alpha rev for windows back in July. Anyone remember that?? Don't get me wrong HTC makes beast phones. But STOCK sense is garbage. If devs didn't put their custom tweaks into their roms I think a lot of people wouldn't use them.
I dunno about stock sense being garbage. I came from a Droid Eris though which is why I probably like sense now. Sense 2.1 ran at a crawl on that phone so AOSP Rom were the o ly way to make that phone run good. With the dinc2 though, I've noticed that sense ROMS just run better than aosp. The AOSP ROMS seem to lag after being on without a reboot. The sense ROMS don't seem to do that.

Sense has some amazing widgets and I like most of the interface, but CM7 and MIUI roms are so much quicker. Luckliy I have Boot manager, so I can use on rom for a week, till I get bored, then switch it up. I no longer have to make backups and reflash. I always come back to sense though, mainly becuase of the widgets
Well the thing with Sense is if you come from a history of using it your going to like it no matter what. I mean I got the Droid Incredible 2 because it was free for me. I tried handling sense but replaced it after a week. This phone was the first HTC phone I ever had. (First Android for me was the Motorola Cliq XT since my intro to the smartphone world was through the iPhone). Just Sense is not like ICS where I just recently came from. And ICS was my baby.
I LOVE Sense!! And, for me at least, it has better battery life than AOSP ROMs although it is a little slower.

Sense better battery life than aosp? No way.
I came to the dinc2 from an og droid, and I have to say I would take sense over aosp any day. And yes, I also get better battery life on sense. Then again, I bought an htc phone because I wanted sense.
Sent from my mobile typewriter with tapatalk
I came over from the OG Droid, so Sense was completely new to me when I got my Incredible 2 last summer. I tried it for about a month before I finally decided I just wasn't a fan, so I went to Go Launcher. A bit later, I decided to root the phone and try out some fancy new ROMs. I've been through a bunch of different selections since then. Generally anytime a new Sense ROM comes out, I see all the people that rave about it, so I wind up giving it a try. But it never fails, within a week or two, I wind up going back to an AOSP choice.
As far as battery life, I haven't personally noticed a huge different between the two. I've run Sense flashes that are good and battery, and others that are not as good. Same for AOSP. It the end, it basically comes down to me just not personally loving the Sense UI.
Sense:
. much better camera (especially in low light conditions)
. Better phone and contacts apk s . Better phone and speaker in call volumes
. Slightly better battery life
. More polished UI
. Feels like it's made for the phone
Aosp:
. Quicker, lighter, snappier
. Power toggles are awesome
. Feels incomplete
. In call volumes are questionable. They're either too low or too high.
Conclusion: can't go wrong with either one, but the edge goes to sense (until aosp ICS is fully functional)

I thought I'd really like Sense, but once I used it, I just didn't care for it. Can't Stand the launcher - the enormous phone button, the dedicated "customize" button, etc... So I use ADW, which means I loose all the Sense widgets, which leaves little else of value.
The camera on Sense did seem to be better than AOSP, not sure why that would be. But I use either MIUI or CM7 as they're so much faster and, in my experience, do get better battery life.

Yep, the launcher kills Sense for me. Why on earth do they do that? That stupid customize button is one of the worst UI design decisions I've ever seen.
Ultimately, too, I'd rather have my phone run well than look pretty, so while I mess around with Sense ROMs when they come out, I always end up back on AOSP. I like HTC hardware, but Sense is more trouble than it's worth.

well certain versions of rosie are better than others....i like the mt4g slide version a lot (in tsm bullet, cheap plug) and its a lot different than normal rosie
bliss sense 3.5 rosie is barely recognizable as a sense launcher in its layout
and from what ive seen of ics sense 3.5/3.6/4.0 they completely redid the layout
I like bliss alright but i haven't tried any of the 3.5 ROMs on the dinc2 so I don't know how well they run.

"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "

Viper or Jellybean?

Until the two come together, which one would you pick for now and why?
I would say viper because it's highly customizable. I have used cm10. It's preety damn fast but you can always install a custom kernel ( faux or nix) to make it buttery smooth.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I used cm10 for a few weeks to test it out, but then realised how much I missed sense's superior camera and sound (with mods of course). Also, sense is what makes the phone unique. Hard choice.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Have to agree with above posts, the Jellybean roms run super smooth and quick, and look nice etc, but the camera is basic.
So if you don't use your camera i would say go with a JB rom, but if you like the features of the Sense camera then stick with Viper for now.
Any sense based rom I quite rely on sense for its camera, better email client, Facebook integration, widgets, and such.
I've tried the jelly bean roms and miui but always come break to sense.
It depends on your usage and such try them both out and find which you prefer to use.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Tried 4.1 for few days, but had to come back to sense. This makes HTC phones unique and there are so many features that lack in CM roms. Also, Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.
I was in rd miui jelly bean for two days and was great, using stock kernel but I think it needs a custom kernel for better battery.
Viperx is amazing. But Now I m on ordroidx, I dont know tomorrow. Love flashing and modding.
Enviado desde mi HTC One X usando XDA Premium HD app
I used Ice Cold Jelly and stick to it since then ^^
I love the stock android feeling since ICS and Jellybean just makes it even better.
I asked myself the same question many times, the pro's for viper being the fact it could be modded to have the least possible sense (which I just find annoying, there is too much of everything...) the battery life and te camera.
But I stay on ICJ, it has great support from both the kernel dev (ncx) and LordClockan which is allways helping. You can't theme Sense suc perfectly back to stock as stock allready is, the AOKP toggles are just awesome for me and having a Nexus 7 I am not having two different panoramas.
Thanks to the ncx kernel it's fast and stable but also with minimal battery drain.
I would tell you to try both, and stick with the one you prefer.
Another point I keep in mind is that I will never again buy from HTC (the S-ON fact and sense of course) So stock is the best way to have the most chances to keep your references... (that's why I searched stock, coming from a Galaxy Nexus).
Good luck !
Said it before, Footballs maximus rom owns. It just works. I used to jump around Ice Cold and allsorts on DHD, always trying to find the perfect rom... i really have nothing to fix on this. Stock kernel too. it just works. Admittedly, some games are VERY slightly juddery, but I have a Nexus 7 too, so I game much less on the One X now. I tried Viper..... Really wasnt for me. Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
yes,the same by me,i like to test rom but mydaily rom is the great viper;its fast shure,Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.maby one day it comes the version from htc with sense4.? and JellyBean,i love sense sinse i have had this touch diamond2,over the touch hd and the wonderful desire.
Its like religion or ähh politic ore somethink i dont know
Jellybean or Renovate or ARHD....simple as that mate...and if you like to customize then go with MIUI
@ edge3uk
Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
thats silly,blödsinn, quatsch, man you boring or what?
For me ..Domination ROM is the best..but battery not good as Sense ROMs and other ROMs
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I used CM10 for few weeks but like few before me have mentioned, battery life is not that great and camera is really awful, so now I'm back on Viper X. JB is nice, smoother and quicker, but for me personally that marginal performance difference is not worth sacrificing battery, camera or stability (and then there are few other nifty little features of sense that I like , such as beats audio profiles, FM radio, weather and clock animations etc).
