(Q) Rooted or not ??? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friends,
I have an HTC Desire ver: 2.2,
baseband 12.28b.60.140
kernel 2.6.32.21
Build 1.43.468.1
I want to root but when I download and run ivisionary it works (setcpu and superuser both work as well). but I cannot uninstall any applications.
It says I am a root user, but I cannot use its priviledges.
Please help, is my phone rooted, or should I do something else....
Thank you

You need to s-off to make changes to the system. The nand protection is stopping you

Thank you for your reply
Do have any idea or link about how to s-off?
and s-off is the only process? do I need to do anything else?
thank you

I just did S-off,
but cant remove apps, for instance I want to remove facebook, but I cant.
what else I am missing?

Use titanium back up pro, go to backup/restore tab, then select the app you dont want then press un-install (using wipe data will reboot your phone)

[Q] Root = Flashing?

I am sorry if I get it wrong or missed anything.
I read many guides showing how to "root" & "flash" a new rom. It seems that I MUST flash a custom rom... But what if I only want to root the phone but keeps the original rom? Is it practical?
Please advise. Thank you.

Thanks for the info.
Would you please also advise me on a couple more questions?
1. Which method should I use to just root? Creating goldcard / using UnrEVOked?
2. Any message I will receive to show I have sucessfully rooted?
Thank you ever so much!

your best bet is using unrevoked 3.2 and once rooted look in your programs list, there should be a program called superuser permissions
Thanks!! I will give it a shot now! :-D

[Q] Anyone tested VISIONary on HTC Desire?

Hey folks,
Just QQ, has anyone tested whether VISIONary works on HTC Desire? I've dug into other threads here and found out it works on both HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z but I couldn't find anything in terms of HTC Desire.
Cheers!
I think it will work as it says it perm roots non nand locked devices. Try it

Please excuse my ignorance but could you explain what are NAND/eMMC locked devices?
Whatever NAND/eMMC locked devices are, I have just installed VISIONary version r10 from the Android market on my unbranded, unrooted HTC Desire and tried to get temp root but it simply didn't work
Anyway I hope HTC Desire will be supported in next releases as it's great idea to temporarily become a root only when it's needed and using one-click app from the market.
Hi folks, it looks like we can finally very easily get a temproot on Desire
I've just installed the latest version of VISIONary+ (r14) from http://android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/ Once I opened the app and clicked "Temproot now" then after ~20sec I got a temproot - take a look at attached screenshots as an evidence
The root access has been lost after shutdown/reboot a phone as intended.
Hmm... Looks interesting.. Have to try it.
And would be more interesting to see if Titanium works while temprooted.. Can anyone confirm?

I've installed a free version of Titanium Backup! 3.6.0 from the market so can confirm that it works fine while temprooted
So you can backup without having to root?? Sounds good

Yup..Best news ever!
Now people wont have to root just for backup and apps!
Now..If someone would create a Temp Recovery and get Nandroid working! Too much to ask, I know!
Shame you need pro to backup apps...

It's not a fake flash as VISIONary don't flash anything on your phone whatsoever It's just yet another way to get a superuser on your desire. To be honest I am not entirely sure what it works but based on what already found out it seems to me that it's kinda exploit.

I've already tested Titanium Pro and it works fine while temprooted too. Take a look at attached screenshot
Btw, why did you think it's not supposed to work? please note that actually there no difference between "be rooted" and "be temprooted" In both of cases you're logged on the OS as a root Of course while you're "temprooted", you'll lose your superuser level of permissions after reboot/restart your device what means you'll need to use VISIONary again to get temproot later if needed.

Yup..I wasnt talking about Visionary, but about my other post about a wish for a Fake Nandroid. But apparently that isnt about Fake Flash isnt about that either!
I've temp rooted using VISIONary (thanks Paul) and that's as far as I'm willing to go atm. I've installed Titanium, SetCPU and the cache cleaner app. Very nice indeed but what else can I do now with temp root?
You can't do much with temp root apart from use root needed apps.

Would the temproot be gone if you tried to use clockworkmod recovery (from the update.zip rather than a flashed recovery partition) to then do a NAND backup since the phone reboots?

Yes, loads.

OR
In short, download the RUU you require (if you had to downgrade to root then use the same RUU) then use HTC Sync to push it to your phone (again, HTC site has good instructions).
And ...

oh i see will have a try...
so its really possible to update Android 2.3 OTA on rooted DHD, right?
Means rooted phone cannot update Android 2.3 OTA.
OR may be is there any way to update manually Android 2.3 on rooted phone? hehe
To do manually follow any of the threads in development forum.

but remember, you wont be able to use any apps that require root access, as the latest GB rom from HTC hasn't been rooted, so BEWARE!!!!!!!
if you need, you can go for any GB ROM from here, which provide you full access to root & superuser, etc.
Try using visionary
I know there's a unroot function on it, but never used it. Probarly someone else did, maybe search the forum

No there is not a "superuser" app
Where can I download the official 2.3.3? I can't find it
You are S-OFF but doesn't have the Superuser app yet most definitely.
To get root, you have to flash superuser zip found on Revolutionary FAQ page. Read it and it's there. Third FAQ item if my memory serves me correct.
Alternatively you can just flash a custom rom and it will have superuser out of the box.
EDIT: Here read common problems and questions. It's item number 4

What do I do with the flash files? Do they go on to the sd card or what?

Save that zip file on your SD card.
Choose Recovery on the hboot menu.
Depending on what recovery you have, look for something that says flash/install from sd card
select the file and let it do it's work
reboot

Since you're using a desire with german language, I suspect that you speak german ;-)
Before you play around with your device, I think it's better to read and understand what you're doing. Therefore, brutzelstube.de is a great german website specially about rooting and modding the desire. Maybe you should just read the tutorials there and see what your device is capable of. If you need to ask what to do next for every step, you probably won't have much fun with your rooted desire. Especially if you want to flash a custom rom.
As it is a used device, what about the one who owned the device before? Can't you ask him what exactly he did?
You could also just install and run an app that requires root (like Titanium Backup or Rom Manager) and see what happens...

Seriously? Rom manager..... Fail
Like stankyou says, you need to flash a custom recovery and you'll need to flash superuser before you try to install any app that requires root access

Well, first of all there was the question if root-access works or not. Looks like the answer was no, but just trying it out does no harm. And since Rom Manager requires root, it should be ok for testing, just like any other root app. I didn't say he would need it.
Or he could just look in app drawer for the superuser app

I got it rooted and got custom rom on it Thnx

Sure, but since I saw more than one case where some apps didn't show in app drawer, I don't trust the app drawer anymore ;-)
@philipo84, have fun - now your phone is really smart ;-)

[Q] WFS root problem

Hello,
I have a WFS which is S-ON.
I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com.
When i restart the phone in the bootloader, i see in the first line "UNLOCKED"; the phone is still S-ON.
When i try to root it (supertoolv3), it says it's rooted at the end, but nothing is done after the restart.
Also by installing Superuser and Busybox from the play store does not help.
I don't want to put a custom bootloader nor Rom, just want a rooted phone to uninstall some bloatware and use some applications...
Another question i have is how to flash a stock rom with the Belgium Dutch AZERTY keyboard... Anyone an idea?
My actual rom has version 2.26.401.4
Does anyone has an idea what i can try?
Already thanks!

He means install titanium backup and allow root permissions. After it starts go into the apps section touch the app you want to remove and press uninstall.
Don't forget to press thanks if I helped.
