Limitations? - Defy General

Thinking about moving to a defy. What are the limitations on roms/kernels/etc? I see threads about no custom boot loader available. What does that limit? What else is different coming from htc/nexus?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

Bump.......

Overclockable to 1.2 ghz on any rooted rom.
All kernels and bootloaders stock and recovery must be flashed with app on boot.
Moto locked bootloaders.
We have sense and blurless roms though

Means you install an app that automatically flashes recovery every time your phone boots.
Root is one click

What is needed for root/recovery? Ie, is the root app available on the market or everything must be done from pc?

Will Google updates work on rooted/rom'd??

I unlocked, rooted and am now running the android revolution HD rom with a theme and updated boot animation.
This might be a silly question but will I need to restore a nandroid of stock rom to accept a Google update??
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
+1 im curious about this too... I'm not sire if its different with Google phones
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
yes, you would need to restore. if you running custom ROM, your updates depend on developer not Google.
Just restore to stock rooted? I don't have to inroot and relock do I?

Most of it has to do with the recovery. I believe the OTA's need the stock recovery and won't work with CWM.

[BOOTLOADER] primeLA03

bootloader LA03 from leaked 4.0.4 cdma build, i successfully flashed (via cwm recovery 5.5.0.4 & fastboot) to my galaxy nexus GSM.
NO changelog!
credits to whoever posted it in galaxy nexus general forums, i just took out cdma radio parts and removed toro & radio lines from updater-script.
warning: flashing bootloader IS dangerous! i am not responsible if you brick your phone, it worked on mine, who knows if it will work on yours.. i don't.
if you don't know why you should flash this, then DON'T!
zip md5: adf8cd5ea69e00d99769767a3b9fc630
flash via recovery or extract .img and flash via fastboot.

I meant that people had noticed..or from a Dev who had opened it up for a look. That's why I didn't ask for an actual change log lol usually people notice changes quite quickly such as improvements or decrease in performance

Flashing bootloader is always dangerous, method used is not important.

Bootloaders and Radios are independent of Android version. Go ahead.
Does it matter what bootloader you are coming from? Can this be flashed from 4.03?
Also, are there any benefits of flashing a new bootloader besides it looking different?

They're independent of ANYTHING. Go ahead and just flash.
New bootloader = stuff behind the scenes. Will never know unless it comes from Google, it's like flashing a BIOS.
I have no more battery drop after reboot with this bootloader, look like it have a new battery driver.

Probably none.
Could this have messed up access to the market, does anyone else notice that? Market force closes as soon as I click on an app.

I think I've narrowed it down to that though.. Would anyone have the previous bootloader as a cwm flashable zip? Am at work, no pc..
flashed it this morning ... no issue so far ... also market works

That's how 99% of users flash kernels anyways. I usually do as that gives me a zip on my phone to flash back to a different kernel in case of emergency.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
and why is this on general?
seriously if u needed to start a thread for this question u shouldnt be flashing

While I agree with why this is here LOL, just find a kernel using the XDA App from the market, go to the beginning of the thread to find download link, then reboot recovery and flash new kernel you just downloaded. Make sure you wipe cache and davlik before flashing. Good Luck.

Odp: Install CM7 without sd card?
Probably not. Why? Because to flash rom you have to have it on your sd. Cwm reads only external memory
Sent from JokerDroid 4.3 (;
AND there is not enough internal memory for a rom to be copied anyway.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
There might be a way.
If some one makes a CWM backup of a clean Cm7 flash you might be able to flash the .img files it makes through fastboot.
