Tethering not working on official froyo + midnight rom? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, been loving midnight rom for a while now but one of the things that concern me is the fact that i cant tether, is there any way of fixing this issue? the app works but whenever i try to connect any device they would not connect to the phone via wifi they just loop on "trying to connect" and it will never establish a connection

I am having the same issue

Which wireless tether are you using? There's a new beta version 12 if you google it, or remove the one you have and try the one in the market. My only problem with the market one is that, although stable, my Galaxy tab can't see it. Although my itouch and laptop work just fine.

New TMOUS ROM: Problem with USB Tethering

I installed the new leaked ROM from TMO, but noticed that USB connection sharing is not working. That is to say, whenever I try to connect it starts up the bluetooth manager and does not give me the option to choose a USB connection. Weird! I'm working to find a solution.
Anyone else have this problem?
Are you using Internet Sharing? Because I just launched the Internet Sharring App and was given the usual option of USB or Bluetooth and which Network connection I wanted to use.
Found a solution. I was using the ICS program that came with the ROM, then installed an ICS from these forums, then uninstalled it and, voila, I got the option back. Weird.

Stock Android tethering on Sense rom

I have a simple question is there a way you can use the stock android tethering in a sense rom. While using a Sense rom with the wired(didn't work) and wireless tethering I preferred the tethering on CM6. Using PDANet was ok but the whole having to start on my phone and connect on my pc was kind of annoying. Also can we get the HTC camera from sense to work on stock Android. I'm pretty sure it has to have a sense framework installed but the camera is better than the stock Android one
Install this ROM/Includes Sense, Burnt Droid v1.2 and you will have what you want. Connect the phone to your laptop/desktop, select "USB tethering" and away you go.
With My phone connected to my LinkSys Wireless N router I am getting 11.65(down) and 3.78 (up), loving life.
Which rom?
I know it works with CM for wired and wireless. I'm using bakedsnack right now, meaning I'm having to use pdanet.

just download the pre9 release off of google
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I'm still using EasyTether from when I was to lazy to root my hero and it works great. I prefer wired tethering to wifi because I don't have to worry about battery or other people getting on my connection. When I use it I only want it on my laptop anyway.

[Q] Wireless Tether Connection Issues?

Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with connecting tethering my laptop and netbook to my incredible. I'm running Skyraider 3.3.3 Sense with Wireless Tether for Root. The application worked a couple months ago, but now no device can connect to it. The devices show that they connect but both don't receive an actual IP address (they get a 169.something). The application shows when a device connects, and it doesn't ever show anything connecting to it. I had this issue when I was running 3.0 and still having it at 3.3.3. I've uninstalled and reinstalled; no dice.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Thanks,
Tim
Go to the market page for wireless tether there is a link to their site just download a newer version.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
As I said before: I have the newest version.

[Q] [EVO APP HELP] - Wireless Tether

Hey Gang-
Current set up. Unrevoked, running Caulkin's ROM.
After exploring the great features of my ROM, I wanted to try out the Wireless Tether app. After trying again and again and playing with the settings, I was able to get my laptop to connect to the Evo but could not get a connection to any website.
This evening, I removed and re-loaded the app directly from the developer's website, still having the same problem. As far as I can tell, I can connect to the Evo via my laptop but I don't seem to be getting a connection to any websites. The data stream log shows some activity.
Any suggestions?
Hrm mine stopped working as well. Nothing will connect to it since Saturday. I've turned off encryption and access control (which both worked till saturday) and no dice. I've tried 3 versions of it and no go
I've not changed Anything else since then that would mess with tether. Im running Azreal 3.0 which seems to enable the official sprint hotspot and THAT connects just fine tho I'm worried I might get charged since my accounts not provisioned for it.
Anyone else have issues with the android tether lately?
I am running MikFroyo 4.4 rom and have had no issues with either Wireless Tether or Sprint Hotspot wireless tethering. On some other roms I have used I have had to turn Wireless tethering off and on a couple of times before my laptop fully connected with the internet. And as far as Sprint charging you, unless you are downloading a ton of crap constantly chances are you will go by unnoticed.
all you have to do is not use it.. mine did the same today
i just went to the market and downloaded barnicle wireless tether
its actually a bit fater and works the same.

[Q] KF can't connect to my phone's Wifi Hotspot?

I have an old Windows Mobile 6.5 phone (Touch Pro 2). I have an app that allows it to run as a wifi hotspot (install file is called mobilewifirouter.cab).
Other devices connect to the hotspot fine, but the kindle just doesn't see it... even when they're right next to each other. Otherwise the kindle wifi works ok.
Is there any way I can get this going? It's tedious having to constantly consider wifi availability when I'm travelling with it. Maybe the KF doesn't see anything using a very old 802.11 standard?
ad-hoc vs infrastructure
I think the issue is the phone itself. Or rather, the chip/radio only being able to broadcast on ad-hoc which the KF (and other new 'droid devices) doesn't support. I used the same wifi manager you did, same results...
I have a ATT Tilt 2, btw
I guess I have the same problem:
I'm trying to have my lg p500 (android 2.2.1) working as a wifi hotspot and access it from my galaxy tab (3.2) but I can't never "see" my network from it.
Other devices (laptop, nokia E71) can connect, but not the galaxy tab.
Galaxy tab can connect to other wifi networks, but not the one I create in my phone with "Wifi Thether" app.
Any workaround to fix this?
Thanks,
João
I think WM6.5 wifi router software uses Adhoc mode for wifi rather than infrastructure mode. Android cannot connect to adhoc wifi network unless you have a modified WPA supplicant file (which can make your android device unstable).
Kindle Fire and many smartphones/tables cannot connect to the internet via ad-hoc.
Use Connectify software to create a access point from your laptop.
It's a problem that is corrected easily, all you need is ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher. It works, VERY well.

If you are on Stock ROM and rooted, this is perfect
But, if you are on a CM9 ROM(unsure about others), there is no ad-hoc support yet...

He didn't really say if he was using stock or not. I just posted what I know works. If it is wrong for him/her, then I am wrong!
I tried the app on CM9 ROM's, it doesn't play friendly...
For anyone else who searched this thread and they're trying to connect to an android phone... just wanted to recommend FoxFi. I tried several other apps and they all failed (probably due to some quirk of the Kindle Fire's, everyone's recommending these apps). But FoxFi got the job done. But only if you run it without a password. If you're fed up trying to make the kindle connect to your phone, try it.

the problem here is that KF running CM9 or CM10 cant connect to an adhoc wifi yet, not the problem of the phone.
