I just had to replace my dinc and am flashing the ROM. So far I have tried WarmZ 2.2 and Virtuous.
The problems I am having is not flashing the ROMs but with flashing the add-ons that the developers are providing. All the scripts are written for the older versions of CM and won't work with the 3.xx versions. Very frustrating.
So now I am running WarmZ but I really miss the battery life I had with the stock HTC 2.6.32.17 kernel. Nothing I have tried yet comes close. I found a link posted by rmk40 for it http://files.virtuousrom.com/inc/kernels/virtuous-kernel_stock_v4.zip but it also is written with the Amend update script so I cannot flash it.
Can anyone provide a dl link for the latest stock HTC Sense kernel 2.6.32.27 written with the the Edify update script?
Thanks..........marc

Sweet. I'll play with it. Thanks!
Older flashable recovery's are out there so you can flash 2.5 mods try that if amend is tedious

Each rom has its own kernel so dont fear you do not have to manually change anything yourself. Just update the rom.
Going from 2.2 to 2.3 I would do a clean wipe and not just cache and davlik. Do a search for Caulkins format all which would be very helpful when going from Froyo to Gingerbread. It will give you a clean slate to start with
Please note Caulkins format all is a zip file that wipes all data on your phone. Then you can install any rom you want and usually has less issues. Also you may have GPS issues when going from 2.2 to 2.3. Try and read up on this stuff prior to flashing so you know what your getting yourself into..
^^^^ He is right. Every ROM has a kernal already. Untill you learn more about switching them I wouldn do it yet, you could break or brick something.
Ok, well if I switch my Rom will the kernel change automatically?
Yes, a new kernel is bundled with the ROM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at this point I don't even think there are any custom kernels to install on 2.3 until the source code is released (if ever)...

Dont take this the wrong way but if you are unsure if a kernel comes with a rom I suggest you do a lot of reading up before flashing. Custom kernels are just that custom and flashed separately. Also certain kernels are for sense and different ones are for AOSP. Please try and understand that first before just flashing away. Asking questions may or may not be the way to go up in here.
I SUggest reading the stickies and threads done by people like toastch, caulkins xhausx and others similar to them. They have experience and a good track record as far as I am concerned

You are correct. There are, however, kernels with a few tweaks if I remember correctly, fixing Wi-Fi and maybe another issue (4G I think, not sure)
I have been off the scene for awhile so much changes so quick. I have rooted my phone with unrevoked last year and am on jiminy v cricket rom. My phone has been working good. I found out about hdmwin mirror and it did not work so that brought me here. I am currently still on android 2.2 and rooted and want to try some new roms like cyna 7 and nitelies. here are my questions
1. do i need to re root phone to newer version or is unrevoked still alright
2. what roms work for 2.2 and get hdmi mirror for hdmwin
3. same thing as question 2 for kernals.
4. any addtional info
I read quite a few threads and got confused..
thanks for you help.
Shouldn't need to re-root. Why are you holding off on running a 2.3 ROM?
I am not sure if the new roms matched up with android 2.2. might be missing some info on this I read but a little confused on the 2.2 to 2.3 and so forth on which roms work for each one.
You don't need to upgrade to official 2.3. I never did. The 2.3 ROMS are not gonan give you the great battery life that Froyo ROMS had, but they have a TON more to them now. No SBC Kernels for Sense, either.
You in a good state right now. Go to the link in my URL. It will explain everything about cm7 and you need to flash amon RA too which is in there

Kernels: Chopsuey 9.2.7 and Freedom .9 are the major ones, if you are sticking with Sense.
Kernels are the major part. I would suggest MikG, or if you are feeling adventurous, either MikRunny or Hybrid (in Jaredthegreat's thread FEARMEde). I suggest mounting data in recovery before flashing any kernel. Under "Mounts" option in recovery.
Maybe you need to update to AmonRa 2.3, still the best
AOSP-wise, either MIUI or Deck's, paired with Tiamat 4.1 kernel SBC.

Hi there,
Am trying to update the kernel on my Desire running Runnymede 2.2 AIO.
Have been trying to do this with kernel manager but no luck. kernel downloads, gets verified, and system then restarts into recovery and nothing happens.
I then have to reflash Runnymede in order to get it to boot at all.
The only one i've tried is the Tiamat kernel.
Can anyone give me any pointers?
Thanks a lot!

Tiamat is an AOSP kernel
Runnymede is a Sense ROM
you need to flash a compatible Sense kernel
i've only flashed kernels with through clockworkmod recovery, no problems doing so, just have to check compatibility
ah, thanks eddiehk6! starting to make a bit more sense now. not sure why an AOSP kernel would show up on the list in kernel manager as I thought that was the whole point... only showing compatible kernels.
this brings me to my next question, is there a list of kernels (with details!) somewhere?
Thanks!

hah starting to make a bit more sense....
look here, scroll down and u'll find a list.
i'm no expert, but by logic assume you would need a sense gingerbread kernel...check compatibility by searching or asking in the respective thread. otherwise just make a nandroid before each kernel flash just in case.
a word of warning, people's experiences with different kernels differ wildly in the threads, so most of the time you'll have to use trial and error to find one that works best for you, as long as you have the patience. also a bit more terminology to learn...

The incremental update is not the full ROM, they're just small updates for phones already running the ROM. The full ROM will be about ~100+ MB. Also, you will need to have an unlocked boot loader and a custom recovery. Once you have that knocked out just Download the ROM and put it in your SD card. Make sure you wipe all data after you make a backup of your current ROM. Finally, Flash the ZIP and reboot your phone. One more thing, with the CM9 ROM, you need to download the ICS GAPPS so you have the Market and etc. Enjoy.

I know that I said I know how to flash and I just want to know step by step on flashing incremental I have the full rom and I have everything ready but I don't get the part about stocks kernel? I know what kernel is I just want to know what he means by stocked kernel as in the sence kernel or a different kernel
The stock kernel is the kernel included with the rom. If you have flashed a different kernel you must find out which kernel was included with the version of cm9 you are running and download to SD card, then flash. Then flash incremental. Also do not skip incremental. Flash in order of date after your rom download. Example rom- 6272012 incremental-6282012.
I feel more like I do now then I did then.
Thanks

Try out the Mason kernels and see how they treat you. I think the JMZ CM9 Kernel is the Mason kernel. Also, look for the unreleased Mason kernels as they might include new performance fixes and possibly hardware fixes. I heard a rumor of WiMAX hitting CM9.

JMZ stated that if you flash a custom kernel after flashing a nightly ROM you will need to flash the SAME custom kernel after flashing the incrementals I believe he has gone back to the evervolv kernel on latest ROMS for compatibility issues

Thanks for the reply now i have some questions, i found the thread with the CM 9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932573
my questions are how to do some of the instructions that i have to do before installing the CM 9
FULL WIPE - this is the factory restore in the revolutionary recovery menu ?
FLASH ROM -...... how i do this ?
FLASH ICS-GAPPS - how do i do this
FLASH AEROEVANS V14 KERNEL - how do i do this
WIPE CACHE/DALVIK - this option i found it in the revolutionary menu
I am a new at this - first time is harder, if u can give me step by step instruction will be awesome.
Thanks a lot
Here's a hint: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/HTC_Incredible_2:_Full_Update_Guide
You'll install the ICS Google apps and Aeroevan's kernel the same way you install the ROM. Aeroevan's V15 kernel is here: http://goo.im/devs/aeroevan/kernel/vivow/aeroevan_ICSv15-bfs.zip and you can use it instead of V14.
BTW, what you're calling the revolutionary menu is actually known as ClockworkMod Recovery.
