[Q] Market apps - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am new to this (i got my desire before 3 days) and i haven't rooted it or anything (yet i guess).
So what i wanted to ask is why i can't find on the market some well knows apps like "SwitchPro Widget" or "Fancy Widget Pro" (although i can find Fancy Widget) or even Beautiful Widgets.
They are just not on the market.
I have tried to install them from appbrain but since it also links you to the market i can't do it.
Can you please help me on that?
Thanks in advance

Paid apps are probably not available in your country.
Once rooted you'll be able to circumvent this with MarketEnabler.

Do you mean every paid app? Because i have downloaded LauncherPro (and paid for it) without any problem.
Thanks for your time btw.

afaik, Launcher Pro (Plus) is a different case, where you install the free version, then paypal the dev for the code to unlock the full version.
Much like how paid apps are not available in some countries, I have already read that some devs in a couple of countries are having trouble getting paid version of their apps on the marketplace, and have instead opt for a "donate" option on top of the free version of their app.

Market paid apps

Hello.
I just got my Desire and been trying to buy some app, but it seems like I have access only to the free apps, I cannot see any paid app.
Even upgrade (free -> paid) doesn't work. For example, I have tapatalk installed, tried to reply to a thread and the app told me that can be done only if the app is paid. So I choosed to pay, but it brought me to a page which namely doesn't exists.
Anyone having this issue?
Download MarketEnabler or MarketAccess and set it to fake your carrier. This requires root though.
Can you please give me a link to a thread where are instructions how to install MarketEnabler or MarketAccess? I searched the forums, but those terms are used in so many of them :/
Link to MarketAccess: http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
I prefer the former over MarketEnabler because of the cleaner interface and because it's ad-free.

[Q] Market

I have a question about the market app.
How does it work? Like... If I bought the phone somewhere which doesn't allow paid apps. Then I take the phone to another country. Will it use the market server from the first place? Or if the new country allow paid apps. Will I be able to get paid apps with the market app?
Thanks

Its controlled by rom you have installed.
So you would be tied to the country depending on the rom it has. You can always root and install a custom rom then you won't have to worry.

There is a nice small tool called Market Enabler, that let's you enable all the paid apps, based on a different provider setting. No need to travel around the world for that
Thanks for the replies It's just that I dont think I will root it with the 0.92.0->1 SLCD method
Can I use the market enabler even though it's not rooted? (I forgot)

[Q] Android market question

I've heard of several devices that are unable to access the android market. I was wondering if there is a way to simply have access to the APK files, essentially a market back door. I don't even know if this allowed because frankly, I don't understand how the market works. I'm focusing on the word, "open market".
Reason for the question: I may getting a Nook soon but I read that some of them can't access the market using honeycomb.
Thanks.
If it's a free app, that's fine. Many devs even make the apk available on their website. The market only serves as a convenient search engine and auto updater for free apps.
If it's a paid app, that's illegal and a violation of the forum rules - do not ask again. For paid apps, the market serves as a search engine, shopping cart / checkout, license validater, and auto updater.
In case you are asking about a paid app, i'll save you the effort... even if you did get your hands on the apk, most of them will fail to start or run b.c. the market will reject your phone when it tries to validate your copy of the app on app startup.
I thought I made it clear that I didn't know much about the market which is why I'm asking. I forgot that some apps are paid apps, simply an oversight. Your attempt to offer helpful advice was clouded by an unnecessary admonishment of my actions. I'm very well aware of the forum rules. Simply stated, you're making it sound like I'm trying to steal from developers, I'm not. I'm simply trying to find a way to get "free" apps that are listed as such on the market using a device that does not seem to have access to the market.
You could always grab the Amazon Appstore .apk and use that to search and download applications, too.

wow... that didn't even occur to me--thanks!
market enabler is a neat app too. It lets you fool the market into thinking you have a different phone.

[Q] Paid Apps in a non supported Country

I want to know if there is a way i can have paid apps and actually can purchase app using Android Market in my Nexus,
as you can know google Market is not in every country which you can purchase apps.
In my Galaxy S i used to have the old Market (2.2) which after rooting you can use the Market Enabler app to trick your phone into being in US and actually purchase apps,
Is there a way i can do this my Nexus??
It is silly how we are chasing people on buying their products
A similar technique should work fine still. The Market app just checks region of your sim card to determine if you should see them. That way they allow people from countries where paid apps are available to buy apps even if they are in a country where it usually isn't.
The values from your sim gets read at every boot and are stored as system properties. The way Market Enabler and MarketAccess work is by changing that cached value to MCC and MNC values of an allowed region. They might also adjust the Market cache to reflect the same change but in essence, that's how it works.
The above has not changed as far as I know and there is no reason for Google to change it either. They still make money on every sale. It's not Google who are purposefully blocking it but rather some issue of taxes or something similar.
The problem is with the new version of the Market (3.0 and above) it can let you view the paid apps but it wont let you purchase them, in my Galaxy S i used to uninstall the update of the Market so that i can use the old version of the Market and actually purchase apps
You are right it seems. I haven't used those kind of apps for a long time and it seems they haven't been updated for a long time either. There is an issue in the issue tracker about it
You can find an open source version here if you want to be able to mess around with the code for one.

[Q] APK File Vs. Original APP

Hello there! I'm from Brazil.
I always loved to customize my Galaxy S3 home screen. I have always been using UCCW.
I have always heard about Zooper Widget, but have never tried. Then I did it... And realiazed how I was wasting time with UCCW.
Zooper is, by far, much more customizable, it is easier and faster as well.
So I decided to purchase the Pro version, but a few days ago, the banks here in Brazil were not approving the credit card international purchases in Google Play Store, because the prices were in Reais (Brazil's currency), and people were not been warned that they would be charged with some taxes.
I was really lookin forward to try the Zooper Widget Pro version. Then, for the fisrt time in my 'android life', I downloaded an APK file. And installed it...
I loved Zooper. I created so many widgets by myself... It is amazing..
Now, the credit card issue I told you above is gone. I can finally purchase the Pro version then.
Would somebody please tell me what should I do, so I won't loose all the widgets I created with the APK file I've downloaded and installed??
I tried Google Play Store, but it shows that Zooper Widget Pro is already installed.
Should I uninstall it, delete the APK, and then buy the app??
How can I restore all my widgets then??
That's it. I hope someone can help me with that.
PS: sorry if I don't make myself clear, my english is not that good.
My suggestion would be to backup each widget, uninstall the apk, buy the play store version and then import all your widgets back. I know the app can do auto-backups but doing it also manually guarantees a backup.
There should be a save in the upper-right hand corner of each widget config.
Thanks man... I will try that...
thanks, really helpfull
