Cyano 7 RC battery life? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed to cyano 7 RC. Ever since its seemed to me my battery life has been lower than with stock. This is contrary to the Roms reputation so I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.
I'm using the stock kernel mostly because I don't feel familiar enough with kernels to experiment yet.
Any advice would be great.

I have been experiencing the same, although I have noticed my screen off battery is significantly improved. I've been running the nightlies for RC1 and every build the battery life can be a hit or miss with the stock kernels

chad's kernels for GB are AWSOME for battery life. remember to enter settings/cynogenmod/performance and set the cpu to smartass and the min to 128 and you should notice a huge differance.
also i like to wipe the delik cache right before flashing a new kernel. good luck

I'm interested in knowing more about Kernel changes but so far I've been unable to find any comprehensive tutorials. Many of the stickies here at XDA assume a certain level of prior knowledge.

Its as simple as flashing a mod, just download, boot into recovery or install via rom manager, wipe data/cache.

Coming from someone that's been running Cyanogenmod 7 since 2-3 weeks before nightlies, and someone who doesn't charge their phone at night, I feel I have a little room to talk here. I am currently running the incredakernel by Chad. It has givin me the best balance of battery life and performance that I could possibly find (and I have tried all 2.3 compatible kernels, and some 2.2 kernels) I'm not saying he has the one and only good kernel, though it works great for me.

Smartass Govenor
128-1036 clock settings
Don't use Setcpu or anything. Smartass has a screen off built in so it gets amazing battery life. I've tried several, and found the best was not using it at all. Some say conservative gives better battery, and I can say that's false on all of my testing. One last thing. Every phone is different, and everyone's taste is too. This is not the only option, but my personal, opinion. Good luck

If something goes wrong with a kernel flash clockwork will still function right? That is to say that clockwork does not rely on the kernel at all?

[Q] Best Kernel for EVO running CM7

I flashed CM 7 a while back and love it, but as always I feel as though I'm not getting the best battery life. With moderate use I'm lucky not to have to plug it in halfway through the day.
Any good kernel recommendations for good battery life? I'm testing SavagedZen's kernel and using it's governor currently. I find it to have excellent life while the phones asleep, but it's a battery hog when I'm using the phone.
GoDm0dE has done wonders for my battery life! Your mileage may vary as all EVO's seem to be slightly different.
Im having a great exp with SZ 2.1.0. Try using the BFS version of the latest savagezen; As to me it seems the savagezen governor works best with their rom versus cm7(if that's what ur using). I personally run conservative or ondemand with a max of 1113 and 245 min. You could also try the new toast godmode kernel! Here's some general info I think you might find helpful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
I've tried a million different kernals and personally I think CM7 just still has some battery issues to work out.
What has become a frustration of mine is that I continually get different results with the same items. In other words. Some days I'll be using the same kernal and ROM release and even the same programs and my battery will disolve right before my eyes while sudden then I'll get great battery life for a day or two.
Personaly I think it has something to do with 3g and wifi issues, because I seem to have random issues with those as well . . . but I don't know enough about all this to back that up with anything more than anecdotal observation.
CM7 + Timat Kernel = EPIC WIN.
If you flash, only use version 3.3.7 or 3.3.8 as 4.0.0 is breaking some cameras.
Toastcfh's GoDm0dE Kernel gets my vote, and that's coming from Tiamat 3.3.8 with the -100mv script from Viperboy. The Godmode kernel is by FAR much smoother and has gotten me better battery life. Toastcfh works on Cyanogenmod so you know it'll run well with CM7

I just started using CM7 last week and also love it.
Image give God mode a shot n see how that works out....if not ill go back to tiamat until they fix the issue's wit the 4.0

Not sure if this helps anyone, but running godmode at 245/1113 vs tiamat at 245/1267, performance governor on both, I benchmark much better on godmode. I know there's a lot more to consider than that but with a lower clock it surprised me how well godmode did. IIRC I got 1333 on quadrant.
Can anyone point me in the direction where I can find the original CM7 kernel to have on hand to switch back to should I so desire? I want to play with some other kernels, but I always like to have the original sitting by just in case, ya know? Currently running CM nightlys with 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01504-gdc28eac [email protected] #1
Any input would be welcomed (ok, any constructive input hah)

Tiamat has a nice kernel with the sbc added to it. I get around 16-20hrs on moderate use with it.

I tried kernel manager, but whenever I try to DL a kernel it pauses then drops me back at the kernel selection screen. All I really want is the current CM / CM nightly kernel(s) so that I can try Tiamat or some of the others but still have a fail safe to drop back to without flashing a whole ROM...sighs

Yeah, I have the tiamat kernel...what I cannot seem to find anywhere, XDA, CM forums, way too much google digging, is the CM kernel to fall back to if I do not like the results I get with tiamat.
To sum it up...
What I have:
Tiamat, Savage, godmode, and every other custom kernel...but CM
What I am seeking:
CM kernel in flashable form, and if kernel manager is the magical answer, can someone PM me and you can email it to me since the manager fails to work for me?

Your opinion needed

I cannot run a undervolted kernel on my evo for some reason, it doesn't play nice. I liked tiamat on my previous evo, was the only one I ran. while I have tiamat running i have about a minute before it reboots. My question is can I use vipermod to restore voltages to stock/stable. If so what voltage should I enable. I'm useing an extended battery 3500, if that makes a difference. Also if that's not possible what kernel do u recommended I flash to get better battery life?
Edit: trying savage 221

What ROM/kernel combo do you have? how are you flashing them? Are you making sure to pair sense kernels with sense ROMs and AOSP kernels with AOSP ROMs?
I've been sticking with stock Wich is cyan, On miui. I did some home work and it looks like salvage has stock volts by default. Lol yes I'm keeping aosp kernels on aosp roms

Sorry, it may sound like a retarded question for me to ask. But you'd be surprised at how many people are running sense and flash an AOSP kernel, or vice versa. It's always nice to get the obvious issues out of the way in order to focus on what the real cause is.
MIUI is one of the ROMs I've never really used. Make sure your battery is calibrated. That should help a bit with battery life. I'm using Savaged Zen on mine with CM7 and it works amazingly well. As far as the undervolting issue.....I am not too sure as to what is causing that.
What method do you use to calibrate. I've never done that. All I've ever done is wipe battery stats

Charge battery to 100%, enter recovery, wipe battery stats, let phone COMPLETELY discharge (till it turns off), then recharge to 100% again and use normally.

I just started using Anthrax so I can't really speak for it. My go to kernel is the Evo 4g Freedom-v0.9. I would link it... but XDA doesn't trust me yet . You can search the EVO forum or find it in the stickied Detailed ROM Wiki.
I second Freedom.
Freedom v9 is an amazing kernel, i am using the Energy rom, which comes with chopsuey baked in. I recently switched to the anthrax v004 kernel, and my rom is much snappier, and the my battery life almost doubled! my vote is for anthrax!
Im running anthrax with SET CPU set to 245/1036 and screen off profile 245/245 and interactiveX. Been off the charger since 8AM and am at 70% left. considering 10% is wasted when you take it off the charger right away, this isnt too bad...
Anthrax totally!

MikRom thread - Anthrax kernel
This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967&page=1613)
will NOT let me reply due to lack of number of posts (very frustrating, but a bit understandable) but I was inquiring about the Anthrax kernel. I'm currently running More Freedom v0.9, and it's slowed down or become sluggish lately. I'm running MikG v2.5.
My two questions are:
will this Anthrax kernel help?
If so, does it also have Bluetooth HID capability? I have a new keyboard and finding a driver for Android is about impossible.
AND, I guess a third. Assuming it helps, how can I get it or where I can download?
Please apprise me if possible!
Thanks!
I think this may have something to do with your h boot. Scope out caulkins thread on radios, wimax, etc. Hope this helps

Thanks. However, I should have noted that this ran pretty well for a while. I've ordered new batteries that are on the way, thinking that the battery might be the culprit. It seems to wane quickly nowadays.
I did not want to leave my phone with the Sprint tech for 1.5 hours to pore through my phone while he did a diagnostics test. I just didn't feel comfortable doing that. He'd assuredly come back and tell me the phone was rooted, blah blah blah, warranty voided, nothing he could do and that's the reason it was sluggish.
After I moved to this it worked really well for about 3-4 months. The last two months it runs out of memory and the battery fades quickly. The only thing I can really point to perhaps is Tweetcaster. Seems to be a big drain on everything and there's no clean exit command for it, unlike other apps, so it runs all the friggin' time if you instantiate it.
As for Anthrax kernels, I've heard some people recommend "test 9".
Do most of you here recommend that as well?
I really need someone to pm me the anthrax kernel.
The test 9 version works amazing on my phone. I'm running mikg*3. 0

Before flashing the anthrax kernel you should wipe dalvik-cache, flash kernel, wipe dalvik-cache again, reboot, let phone sit 10 minutes, and then reboot again. Search xda for the kernel install information to make sure that you are installing it correctly. It's the best for my evo thus far and I have had no problems. It's baked into the shooter E3D rom. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Quick question about a new kernel

So the other day I installed an unofficial version of cm9 on my Evo. As many of you know, cm comes with options to over clock out of the box. Sadly, with the stock kernel you can only go so far. I found a new kernel online, and flashed it onto my phone, only to find out it ruined the rom, forcing me to reflash cm9. I was wondering if there are any kernels that I can install to overclock my phone further? Pics included

atyoung's Mason ICS kernel should work...
May I ask why you have the desire to.overclock so violently? Most the time, underclocking will even show no loss In performance and save battery. All times I have overclocked, I've never noticed a major difference.. it may be slight but not enough for me to care..
why is your min/max the same?
The rom I downloaded is a little laggy, just wishing to speed things up a bit.

One more thing.. pegging your CPU at max ghz will eventually destroy your device. The EVO is made with a single core 1 GHz snapdragon and so anything really over 1GHz will really put a strain on your processor. Best advice would be to either flash a new kernel, ROM, or find some tweaks to decrease lag. 1.2GHz isn't healthy for your phone...

What ROM/Kernel do you use for best battery life?

Hey all,
Just wanted to see which ROM/Kernel everyone is using. I'm looking to get the best battery life I can. I'm currently using Sammy but I've heard that the stock kernel is good as well? I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations and suggestions.
I'm using the current AOKP (actually i haven't installed the update from today yet) as well as the latest Ktoonez's KT747 kernel and have nothing but great things to say about the battery life. The KT747 also comes with Ktweaker for overclocking and undervolting which when balanced properly can increase performance all the while actually improving battery life.
