[Q] one quick question about rooting mts3g - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for installing cm7 do you need cm6 then upgrade to cm7 or you can just get cm7, and also, is cm7 a good build or should i wait until its more stable?

There's already been a Release Candidate for CM7 which is pretty stable, so far it's running wonderfully. It just doesn't have all the features and tweaks of CM6.
As for the first part, no you don't have to have CM6 first. You can just flash CM7.

You don't need CM6 to install CM7. Just make sure you also flash the correct Gapps.zip for the market to work.

Yes it should be gapss-gb-01202011.zip, if you flash an earlier one for froyo you get boot loops.

Did you flash Gapps?

You have to flash the rom, then before you reboot, flash the gapps.zip. Do a wipe and then flash them one after the other.

[Q] Stock / near stock gingerbread for G2

Hi everyone,
I was wondering, is there such thing as a stock gingerbread rom for the g2, or as close to stock as it can be? I know CM7 is almost out and its based on 2.3 but I was hoping for something as stripped down as a nexus S if such thing exists?
Deodeoxed version of stock froyo. Themed over some gingerbread. That is as stock as you can get.

I'd disagree completely. CM7 with a stock launcher flashed over it is as close you can get to stock 2.3 simply right now. Skinned 2.2 is pretty far away from stock 2.3...
Just flash the latest CM7 nightly (at #5 almost #6 now). Or if you're worried just go with RC1, although all the nightlies after RC1 came out have been just fine for me so far. If you wanna get rid of ADW Launcher for the "stock" feeling, flash the stock Gingerbread launcher after you install CM7. Been doing this for about 10 nightlies now and it works like a charm and looks amazing as well. This is a really fast ROM, and it looks just like stock 2.3 on the NS does, but with all the CM7 goodies baked in if you want them.
I used the "CM7StockLauncherOnly.zip" from THIS thread. Its from the Nexus S community forum but it works just fine on G2. All this does is uninstall ADW and install the stock 2.3 launcher. I've gone ahead and attached the .zip that I've been using to this post for convenience . Just flash through recovery after doing a boot up with CM7.
Also, if you're going to be updating your nightlies of CM7. I can give you some advice. While in recovery, after flashing a newer version of CM7 (aka nightly #5 to #6, etc.), just go to advanced > Reboot Recovery, THEN flash the CM7LauncherMod.zip. Don't flash the new CM7, boot, then go back and flash the launcher mod. This way you will save all of your homescreen locations, widgets etc. If you let your phone boot with ADW installed it will wipe it clean when you install the stock 2.3 launcher and you'll have to start over. If you do this I can explain more in detail but thought I'd give you the headsup now.

I can't stress how much more I love CM7 with the stock launcher lol. I was kinda luke-warm on CM7 at first because its just got a little lag with ADW, but now its buttery smooth. Let me know if you need any help I'd be glad to run you through it.

Awesome. Hope you make the move its a great ROM.
FWIW, CM7 has been extremely stable for me. Never had a crash, reboot, force close, or anything since build #30 when I started. I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I really don't think theres many instable issues this has been a daily driver for a lot of people for many weeks now, even before the RC1 came out.
If you find instability you can always go back to the nandroid backup of your stock 2.2, but I don't think it would hurt to try it out and see how you like it! Just remember to update to the latest CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5 from ROM manager, it handles both 2.2 and 2.3 backups/restores.

Nope you can flash it any time you want. Just go into recovery (hold down power button, select "reboot" then select "recovery", and wipe cache to be safe. Then go to "install zip from SD card" > "Choose zip" then select it and hit YES, just like you would for any other zip.
Remember, this will completely uninstall ADW. You will probably lose all of your icon/widget locations, although the 1st initial time I flashed the stock launcher I didn't lose my locations completely (everything shifted over by 1 homescreen weirdly). I'd most definitely run a nandroid backup before you flash anything (this should be normal practice anyways).
The reason why I instructed to flash the ROM, then restart recovery then flash the Stock Launcher Mod without a boot up is that when you're using the stock launcher over and over, installing ADW will wipe your homescreen locales.
Thanks very much. Just installed with no issues/lost widgets or icons. This is WAY better.

Glad it worked for you. Like I said I've been using this for about 10 nightlies now and its the best 2.3 experience I've ever had.
Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or troubles.
Quick question for the people in the know, I'm running RC1 with the stock launcher & loving it, but I would like to upgrade to the latest nightly.
So if I flash the latest nightly (With no wiping) then before booting into the OS I flash this zip it will be just upgrading the OS & won't touch any of my screen setups?

Yes. If you follow my instructions from the first page properly. Otherwise you'll either not flash the launcher properly, or you'll flash it and lose your home screen setups.
Before starting. Do a Nandroid backup. Always a good idea! That being said, follow these instructions:
1) Go into recovery (Power Button > Reboot > Recovery), wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (doesn't hurt, takes 10sec)
2) Flash the new nightly build you're upgrading to (Install Zip from SD card > Select Zip > select the latest nightly you're upgrading to.
2a) DO NOT REBOOT SYSTEM
3) Still in recovery, go to Advanced > Reboot Recovery
4) After recovery reboots, go ahead and flash zip from SD card > Select Zip > Flash the stock launcher mod.
Let me know if you have any questions. The crucial part is rebooting recovery after flashing the nightly and before flashing the launcher mod, this way ADW is installed and you can properly uninstall it and replace it with the stock launcher. Also, make sure you don't accidentally boot up the ROM before flashing the stock launcher, as it will wipe your homes because it installed ADW.
Just realised i never said thanks for this! *Slaps head*
So Thanks (Y)

[Q]Unable to flash senseless revolution?

Hey guys i finally got a working dinc (apparently they lied about letting me get a different handset because htc has never reported random reboots as an issue), and rooted and dropped jagerrom on it just to try it. and I dont like it, at all. So i wanna go back to senseless rEVOlution, but no matter what i try it just wont flash. I've tried changing roms and going from there, doing it through rom manager, doing it through recovery, even un/re-rooting and everything. I just want a rom that i like so tired of phone problems zzz
What do you mean it won't flash? Are you getting an error message? Is the install going through but it does nothing? Can you be a bit more specific?
Ummm if I try it straight through recovery it just says install can not be completed and another line, I'd have to try it to check. If I go through rom manager the install seems to go fine but then it boots back into jager ROM

Go back to 2.5.1.2. 3.0.0.5 had a bunch of issues/problems. This is probably one of the reasons that nothing is happening after you flash it. Revert to 2.5.1.2, wipe, then flash the rom you want. Everything should be good after that.
Then if you want, you can upgrade it to 3.0.0.8, I haven't heard of any problems with that one.
kk sweet ill do that.
PS does battery level matter when flashing stuff? a friend told me that if u flash on anything besides full it'll mess with your battery life

No, it doesn't matter, just don't do it when the battery level is low. You don't want the phone to power off in the middle of flashing a rom, that makes your phone a nice paperweight.
ah okay sweet. apparently something about senseless revolution wont let me flash with 3.X.X.X recovery. said something about a script not being compatible with gingerbread recoveries.
and apparently apply sdcard/update.zip didnt flash the new recovery, hmm. oh well ill figure it out.
are there any ACTUAL gingerbread roms for the dINC and not just themeed ones? all the ones I see say GB but then in the topic it just is like "Themed gingerbread whatever"

Just reflash the recovery through rom manager. Just scroll to the bottom, All ClockworkMod Recoveries, and pick 2.5.1.2.
For GB CM7 is basically a stock GB rom with a bunch of customizations that you can choose to make. Its the most stable GB rom right now IMO.
The lowest it has is 3.0.0.2 and doesnt let me scroll

I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence and I understand the issue you are trying to resolve. If I recall correctly it is caused by the boot partition not being wiped. This does not cause an issue when switching from 2.2 rom to 2.2 rom because kernels are specific to the version of android (and sometimes other system elements such as sense / asop). And again, if I recall correctly, the "wipe all" command on many older recoveries did not wipe the boot partition, or wipe it completely so when you go to boot your 2.3 system with a 2.2 kernel it doesn't work and you get a boot loop. Hence my question & suggestion. Best of luck finding a fix.
please update your radio to one of the ones that came with gingerbread and try again..remember the safer way to update radios is through bootloader and not recovery...and remember the phone will reboot during the update, do not touch the phone until it reboots a second time or you may brick it..
Okay here is what I did to get GB, on my (evo tester phone)
1) booted the evo into recovery
2) factory reset 2x
3) ran VR_SUPERWIPE 2x
4) then I ran, SNS SUPER WIPE 2x, still could not run 2.3 GB at all!!, trying all kind of things for a little over a week.
5) Went through my files, found an old RUU. (RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.71_003_release_147044_signed) THIS IS THE ON YOU HAVE TO PLUG THE EVO INTO THE COMPUTER TO RUN.
6) Booted the evo into bootloader, then ran the RUU.
7) REBOOTED PHONE,… okay looks like stock,
8) Rebooted to bootloader s-off, is now s-on…. Dayum
9) I said F**K IT… repeated steps 1-3, then ran (deo_4.54.651.1)
10) This is the same rom I tried to install all week, now it install, verified, the version, guess what. 2.3.3.. wtf
11) I then installed, GW (signed_Team-Nocturnal_Stock_RLS.02).. (it also restored my custom splash screen)
12) IT INSTALLED NO PROBLEM… WTF…
13) STILL WITH SUPER USER PRIVIELGES
14) How is this possible with s-on

[Q][R800X] Help flashing CM 7.2.0

I've been trying to flash CM 7.2.0 and every time I do it, it either A) freezes on the kernel or B) freezes on the boot animation. My bootloader is unlocked. Here are the steps that I've tried.
1. Flash R800x_3.0.1.E.0.88_Verizon.ftf
2. Activated phone, wifi, and whatnot. Play around with it for a few minutes.
3. Flashed the kernel that came with FXP CM7.2.0 zeusc.
4. Boot up into recovery. Wipe user data, cache, dalvik cache.
5. Flash CM7.2.0 zeusc zip.
6. Reboot and the boot animation freezes. I've waited up to 30 minutes and no change. Pulled the battery out, turned on, still freezes on boot animation.
I've done the same thing with R800x_4.0.2.E.57_Verizon.ftf and still no luck. Any ideas?

If you are still having trouble flashing CM7, I would suggest downloading from zeusc section of http://get.cm
Or, you can try one of the many CDMA optimized ICS/JB ROMs.
You may have to wipe everything a few times. Of course you can always use my modified cm7 which has autorotation unlike any other cm7 for zeusc lol

I might switch back to CM9 or Paranoid. I've tried the JB ports. One has working data but no sound, and the other CDMA has everything working except I couldn't get data to work. Thanks for that URL, which one would you recommend? RC1, 2, 3 or stable?

You may have to wipe everything a few times. Of course you can always use my modified cm7 which has autorotation unlike any other cm7 for zeusc lol

If the get.cm doesn't work either, I'll go ahead and try the one in your signature. If all else fails, I'll probably go back to CM9 or Paranoid.
Thanks for all of the help you guys, this is a pretty nice community. :3
Sorry to double post, but I tried the ones from get.cm and the modified one from agraceful, but both froze on the boot animation then crashed and froze on the kernel. I think I'm just gonna give up on this particular ROM.
Check what kind of kernel you using.
I had simillar problem whed used kernel from XDA downloaded file. When used from file downloaded from CM project site it runs with no problems.
I have no idea why that happen, maybe on XDA forum is different modificated version for 800x or 800i etc. and not working with all phones.
