I've been trying to flash CM 7.2.0 and every time I do it, it either A) freezes on the kernel or B) freezes on the boot animation. My bootloader is unlocked. Here are the steps that I've tried.
1. Flash R800x_3.0.1.E.0.88_Verizon.ftf
2. Activated phone, wifi, and whatnot. Play around with it for a few minutes.
3. Flashed the kernel that came with FXP CM7.2.0 zeusc.
4. Boot up into recovery. Wipe user data, cache, dalvik cache.
5. Flash CM7.2.0 zeusc zip.
6. Reboot and the boot animation freezes. I've waited up to 30 minutes and no change. Pulled the battery out, turned on, still freezes on boot animation.
I've done the same thing with R800x_4.0.2.E.57_Verizon.ftf and still no luck. Any ideas?

Yes I've flashed a ROM before. Following these same steps, I was able to boot CM9. I've also managed to get AokPlay, Paranoid Android and a few other ROMs running on my device. I always flash back to stock before attempting to flash a new ROM.

on the thread you have downloaded the file are the users facing the same problems or just you? must be not supported by your model or the compiled file was not a success to let you boot... if you do check, make sure you read all the pages on that thread...

It's definitely compatible with my device, it even says it is. I read through the thread and it looks like one or two people are having the same issues.

wait a couple of days and see if those users have a fix for it... as no one else posted on this thread they wouldn't know the problem the same as I don't know...

If you are still having trouble flashing CM7, I would suggest downloading from zeusc section of http://get.cm
Or, you can try one of the many CDMA optimized ICS/JB ROMs.
You may have to wipe everything a few times. Of course you can always use my modified cm7 which has autorotation unlike any other cm7 for zeusc lol

I might switch back to CM9 or Paranoid. I've tried the JB ports. One has working data but no sound, and the other CDMA has everything working except I couldn't get data to work. Thanks for that URL, which one would you recommend? RC1, 2, 3 or stable?

If the get.cm doesn't work either, I'll go ahead and try the one in your signature. If all else fails, I'll probably go back to CM9 or Paranoid.
Thanks for all of the help you guys, this is a pretty nice community. :3
Sorry to double post, but I tried the ones from get.cm and the modified one from agraceful, but both froze on the boot animation then crashed and froze on the kernel. I think I'm just gonna give up on this particular ROM.
Check what kind of kernel you using.
I had simillar problem whed used kernel from XDA downloaded file. When used from file downloaded from CM project site it runs with no problems.
I have no idea why that happen, maybe on XDA forum is different modificated version for 800x or 800i etc. and not working with all phones.

I am fairly new to Android, but am comfortable with command line operation on other Unix systems, etc. I read every thread I can find on this, but did not find my problem described exactly (there are some similar problems), so here it is:
My phone is a GSM Galaxy Nexus, about a month old. I rooted and unlocked it right away using post 1 from this guide: [VZW/SPRINT/GSM][Guide] Ultimate Galaxy Nexus Guide (Unlock/Root/Flash Roms/FAQ) - thanks Jubakuba!
I did NOT use any of the toolkits or automated methods.
A couple of days ago, I decided to try loading another ROM. I read through post 2 of the above guide. I followed the instructions in that thread and flashed a Trinity ROM. The flash seemed to go fine, and completed normally, but when I rebooted the phone, it was stuck in the Google Lock screen bootloop. I was able to restore a nandroid to get it back to where it was before, and the phone operates normally, no resets, reboots, nada. I inquired in Jubakubas thread as well as in the Trinity ROM thread in the developers section, and got some suggestions, which I tried. None of them worked. I also tried flashing a few other ROMS, a CM9 ROM and the RASCREAM ROM, and they all do the same thing. I have tried flashing these without wiping data or cache or dalvik cache, wiping some of them and wiping all of them, and the results are always the same - boot loop, which I can restore using CWM recovery and my nandroid.
One of the posters in the developers forum suggested taking the phone back to unrooted stock condition, so I did that, using this thread: [HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Convert to latest yakju/takju/mysid build / Return to stock - another excellent guide, which worked exactly as described.
After that, my phone was back to as new, and I had to go through the whole start-up and restore applications, etc. I made a new nandroid so that recovery would be relatively painless, etc. Not too tough. I then Rooted the phone (it was always unlocked) and tried flashing a ROM again, with exactly the same results. Again, I was able to restore my nandroid and get back to operational.
I guess my question at this point is what on earth could be causing this? Some of the threads on boot loops where peoples phones start to boot loop spontaneously suggest a hardware problem, but the fact that I have NEVER had a boot loop in a month of use while running 4.0.4 stock rooted and unlocked seems to point more toward software as the cause. I will say one thing - I am learning how to use CWM and the bootloader commands! But, I would really like to be able to use some custom ROMS, not that there is anything really wrong with stock - this is a great phone. But, please HELP!

Okay, I booted into fastboot mode, then flashed the bootloader (bootloader-maguro-primela03.img) and radio (radio-maguro-i9250xxla02.img). I rebooted the bootloader, then went into recovery mode. From recovery mode, I selected "Install zip from sd card", "Choose zip from sd card", then selected the zip file in the /Download folder "TNP1536-384-Alpha86b-4.7-lto.zip". It went through its' install and said "System successfully corrupted" at the end and "Install from sdcard complete." I went back to reboot system rom and rebooted. Now, it is not looping anymore, but just sitting at the Google lock screen for about 2 minutes now. I will wait a few more minutes to see if it boots the rest of the way or starts looping, etc.
Okay, it has been 5-6 minutes with no additional changes, so I am pulling the battery. Powering it on now results in the same boot loop as before, so I will need to boot into bootloader mode and restore my nandroid.
are you wiping data when you flash the rom?
if not, you need to do that first inside of cwm
I would let it sit longer before pulling the battery

Anytime you flash a different ROM, you need to wipe - not optional. If you don't, you will have problems.

is a joke. By your account the kernel flashed successfully. Try flashing another kernel, perhaps not an Alpha version, although I've run that particular Alpha successfully. Do you have an app that sets kernel settings on boot by chance?
Hmmm thats a Kernel i think try another kernel.. Franco is a option ... maybe ur phone can't handle the undervolt of Trinity? I don't know worth a try download franco and post ur results here
Good luck
Is the Rom in the nandroid you're always restoring to something else than 4.0.3 or. 4 based? That would cause trinity to boot loop as it doesn't work on anything lower.
Aside try wiping everything (factory reset + format system under mounts and storage), then flashing something that is considered fairly stable like an aokp milestone build and see if you can boot it without flashing any custom kernel before. Report back

I have tried this both ways. Wiping prior to flashing does not seem to be as universally accepted as you indicate. For example, in the Trinity ROM dev forum, a number of the more senior posters have the opinion that you should never wipe prior to flashing, that is is an un-necessary step. I do not personally know one way or the other, so I will make sure I wipe prior to flashing from now on.

Perhaps they meant if flashing an update of the same ROM (?), just guessing. Even then it can be a good idea sometimes; new Android version (i.e. 4.0.3 > 4.0.4), significant framework changes, etc... but I err on the "safe" side.
Updating to the next nightly of CM9 I wipe absolutely nothing.

Yes, pretty much this. If you are updating CM9 to the next build, no need to wipe. If you are going from CM9 to AOKP, then you need to wipe.

Just had a thought. Trinity is the unofficial support thread for Rascream (by Rascarlo), and Morfic did make a build of Rascream with the Linaro 4.7 tool chain.

You are correct, it is a kernel, not a ROM. I have tried 3 different Trinity kernels and one Franco kernel, all with the same results. The specific kernel I flashed for post #3 was TNP-1536-384-ALPHA86b-4.7-LTO.zip. The other two I tried were both stable releases. Morfic asked me to try the alpha kernel.

Re: wiping, since we now know that we're just talking kernel here, wiping dalvik + wiping cache is indeed approaching useless, so they weren't leading you astray. I can't think of what would be causing you to boot loop however.

SUCCESS! I followed your advice (mostly - I did not factory reset + format system) and d/led AOKP Milestone 5 + GAPPS, flashed bootloader and radio from the bootloader, wiped data / reset, wiped dalvik cache, and booted into recovery and installed both zip files. It booted fine, and I am grabbing my apps and configuring now. I will let you know how it performs and use it for a few days. I will likely head in the Rascream / Trinity direction after using this one for a bit. But thank you to all who have posted.

This got me thinking: is trinity even compatible with a stock ROM (regardless of it being 4.0.4)? Maybe that is why you were having issues.
So I wanted to flash the FNV AoSP ROM on my Galaxy Nexus GSM. First off al I flashed the 4.2 takyu version and rooted it with SuperSU. After that I flashed the recovery with Clockwork 6.0.1.5 after that I did the following things:
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Mounts and storage > Format /system
- Wipe cache
- Wipe dalvik
- Flashed ROM fnv_20121119_003_maguro.zip
- Flash 4.2 gapps
Am I doing something wrong?
When you say, won't work what do you mean?
Does the recovery not flash the file? If so, what error does it say?
Does it not boot after what seems to be a successful flash in recovery? Do you see the bootanimation?

It flashs the files and all but it gets into a bootloop. I see the costum bootanimation of the ROM, but it keeps playing and it won't start up. After some time the screen goes black, but it's not off, because if I hold down power it won't turn on so I have to pull battery.

Your ROM name seems to show that it is a recent build. A quick search around, the last official FNV ROM I see was uploaded in September. The Gerrit, Github, Twitter, and threads here and on another site seem to have been untouched for quite some time.
Of course I am a little out of the loop, so perhaps I am missing something. As devs often post things in IRC, or in other non-official channels. Did you get this ROM from a trusted spot?
That said, it could be a ROM issue perhaps.

Ah, my bad I didn't realize it was picked up by someone else, I see that now (which I thank you for the heads up that it is back in production). I was just making sure you weren't flashing something that wasn't ready for public use, and that it was a real ROM.
When I turn on my phone, the AOKP loading screen appears for about one or two minutes, then the screen shows an android notification saying, that there's 0% battery and immediately, after let's say half a second, the phone switches itself off again. This way it can't be booted and I'm 100% sure, that the battery is above 90% when doing this, I even tried to re-charge it for a couple of hours, but it's still the same. What should I do now? I'm using the kernel included in the AOKP zip.

Try full wipe and flash ROM again. But before reboot, clear data, cache and dalvik cache. If it don't help, flash kernel RECOMENDED IN ROM'S OP, not that from zip.
AND NEVER AGAIN FLASH KERNEL FROM ANY ZIP!

all kernels are found here for AOSP
if AOKP is android 4.1.2 (im sure it is) DOWNLOAD the KERNEL LABELED CM10 (Latest one[im assuming u can find the latest one by looking at the upload date xD])

I have a Verizon GNex, Toro. I was running PA 3.60 4.2.2 and all was fine, but I go the bug for 4.3
I flashed FTL 4.3 rom for toro, had it booted up the first time, and was loading apps and setting up my phone, when it froze after about 15 minutes and I had to pull battery.
I tired to reboot but it got stuck on Google logo for 10-15 each time, nothing would happen, so I wiped and tried to restore my old backups, all of them failed, i try to restore everything but data and is it says successful in TWRP (v2.5.0.0) but when I go to reboot system it hangs again on the Google logo for long periods of time, I've waited upwards of 15 minutes.
I still have the PA 3.60 files in my downloads so I tried to wipe and flash it back on my phone, again it hangs at the Goggle logo and wont go past it.
I can get to the bootloader, I can get to TWRP, but nothing else.
Any advice on what I should try next?
Do I need to flash a stock image? I'm at work at the moment so I will have to wait till later to do it, but at home I have a Mac, which makes things that much more confusing for me.

Did you flash the new bootloader before you tried to flash the 4.3 ROM? I've heard that it is unnecessary but I would highly recommend using the bootloader designed for the current version of Android. What were the exact steps you took to flash the new 4.3 ROM?
I'm beginning to suspect that people are either getting bad downloads or the data cables being used are not working properly which is causing bad flashes. This is just speculation, but I am using the data cable supplied with my phone and have yet to have one single problem flashing the 4.3 ROM.

I downloaded the files directly from chrome on the phone. Is that a problem? That is how I have done most of the ROM's I have ever downloaded.
Try this..
Boot into recovery
Factory reset
Wipe dalvik/cache
Install ROM
Install Gapps
Install SU zip
Reboot
The first boot can take a few minutes so be patient. You'll sit at the "Google" screen for a minute or two then the "android" boot animation for 2-5 minutes. I also wouldn't recommend restoring any backups as I ran into some issues doing this. If you can get the ROM to boot do a fresh install of all your apps from the Play Store.
I never flashed the bootloader and I have had zero problems with flashing and booting 4.3. I dont know what people are doing to have issues. One thing I can think of is after flashing everything and you select restart device, it gives you this option that doesnt usually show up. I cant think of the wording. Something about "erasing flash something or other". there is a whole list of "No" and one line of "erase....". Are people clicking the option to erase and get problems from it? I always just select to go back and it restarts.

I always just select to go back and it restarts.

I downloaded the files directly from chrome on the phone. Is that a problem? That is how I have done most of the ROM's I have ever downloaded.

It could be, I can't speculate on that as I have only downloaded the files to my PC.

Oh. I never use TWRP. I have never liked it. I dont know how TWRP handles stuff then.

I have tried this a few times now, it just hang at the Google Logo, I have waited 15 minutes now, that shouldn't be right.

My next suggestion is going to be a /system wipe. Not sure If you want to go this route but if you choose to (at your own risk)..
Boot into recovery
Factory reset
wipe dalvik/cache
wipe /system
install ROM
install Gapps
install SU zip
reboot
As a warning if this doesn't work you will not have a booting system. You will be forced to reinstall an older factory image via fastboot.
Do you have a 4.2.2. ROM saved on your SD card that you can install? It might be a good idea to get a booting system first before trying anything else from this point on.
Still nothing works, I formatted all data and do not have an OS at this point.
When I get home I will adb sideload a 4.2.2 rom and gapps (Most likely Mmuzzy for the time being) from my mac and install it in TWRP. I've done this before and it should work and get me out of this mess.
Thanks for your help.

did it work? i am also having this problem but when i go into my bootloader it tells me my device is tuna even though its a toro if that matters. and to make things wierder when i try to adb it says i dont have fastboot even though i had it less than 3 hrs ago when i was flashing the rom.(supernova) it worked then i shut off and rebooted the next morning and i just get stuck at the google logo. if anyone can help me i would appriciate it.
I have downloaded the G2 V3 update.zip to my phone and have tried installing the zip via CWM. I followed instructions stating factory default first, then flash the update.zip, install the SU add-on 1, then factory default. When I reboot my phone I get the LG boot screen, afterwards my indicator lights both flash on, my phone vibrates and the backlight stays on but I get a blank screen. I left it like this for 20 minutes but it never continues. I have tried rebooting but it does the same thing. I have loaded my previous CM 10.2 Rom since. Tried repeating this process, get same results. Adding to this, when I load the add-on it does say there was a problem with Loki at the end.
Please help.
Are you coming from stock or were you on CM?
I always return to stock before changing roms,, I've heard of people having trouble going from CM to V3....

Always wipe system, cache and dalvik-cache before flashing. I'd also suggest wiping the internal sd card as well. Always gives me the best results. I've jumped from ROM to ROM this way with no problems. :3

Yup, that is the issue. Those ROMs do not have stock kernel bundled and hence they do not boot when you come from CM or Carbon or Vanir to V3.
You have to go back to stock and then flash that.
Or there might be another way which might work and will spare you hassles of going back to stock and rerooting. Give it a go.
1. Download this kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363330
This kernel is for stock based ROMs.
2. Install V3 by following the procedure. After second factory reset, before rebooting, flash this kernel. And then reboot.
See if that is successful. It should be. (it will still take 4-5 minutes for first boot )
If not , you can always go back to CM and then go through whole going back to stock thing.
Got The thing to work by flashing the CWM recovery files in three parts. Then updated to V4 and SU. The only thing I can't seem to get working is the wireless reefer devices can connect but the receive no data.
