Gingerbread Video Libraries - Desire General

To all gingerbread users, you might have noticed that 2.3.3 roms do not play some video files. Someone informed me that this is because of the froyo libraries missing in gingerbread.
I currently have 10 videos downloaded from tubemate and only one works. Tried rockplayer, act1, movies etc....
I have tested oh so many roms and all have the same result. Currently, Oxygen 2.0, Redux 1.0.0, GingerVillain 1.3 and CM 7 nightly do not those video files.
Amethyst does - probably because it is outdated.
Anyone knows more on this matter?

Hiya I was on Defrost for a long time and for about the last month been on GingerVillain. Tbh Ive not had any problems playing any vid files
What files are they???

http://db.tt/aXqGgVD
There ya go.. a test .flv

Just did another test. Amethyst rc8 seems to play the above file as well as others, the new test build GR40I does not
Are we "doomed" to not play so many video files from now on?
Does that have anything to do with google and webm v8 codec?

video choppy after froyo fix?

is there anyway to get my videos to play smooth again? everything was great before froyo came along...both avi (rockplayer) and mp4 videos (stock player) were very smooth...then froyo came along and everything is choppy. I have tried multiple roms/kernels...does anyone have a fix???
thanks!
Kill some background tasks, and OC as needed. I have yet to have any issues playing AVIs and even RM videos on Rockplayer. Are you trying to watch an HD video or anything like that?

thanks...i will try that. ...my videos were not hi-def, just dvd quality converted with handbrake to .m4v ...at 65% quality (now the sizes are b/w 800mb and 1.2gb per movie)...they used to play great and look great. Now, they only look great, play choppy. ...really jerky...as my first attempts at hi-def were before froyo came out. thanks for the help!
I have the same problem. It was fine on a non rooted eclair and i did the ota update to froyo the video was choppy. I rooted the ota 2.2 and went back to 2.1 and it was all good, then i tried the 2.2 roms and the choppiness is back. Froyo has its bugs like google navigation working with pandora, and pandora sounding like crap.
**EDIT** sorry, my cpu froze...double post.
MODS PLEASE REMOVE
I was having choppy video even with 2.1 (stock).
After I changed the SD card to class 6 I videos play smooth. This is with 2.1/2.2 both stock and with CM6.

Non rooted evo owners with netflix

I just want to make sure netflix works for non rooted gingerbread owners before I try unrooting. I was using haus's odexed gb stock rooted rom which is awesome but I noticed no movie file on the phone and netflix wasn't working, so I checked the lib files and a bunch were missing. When I restored my 2.2 version, netflix and movies worked. All the lib files needed for streaming netflix were there so I want to see if gb non stock has those lib files or did gb take them out.

Netflix does not work with any 2.3 setup. It's the app, not the ROM you have.
Ah thanks.

Well that's not completely true there bud, it works on CM7 which is 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 depending on which one you have installed (stable or nightly).........Netflix just doesn't work on any 2.3 SENSE rom for the time being. I read yesterday that Netflix updated their app to work on 2.3 for the Droid X so I'm guessing that it will only take about a week or so until they start rolling out Netflix for the recent 2.3 from Sprint.................Just my two cents in all of this, don't shoot me..hahaha

this is true i am running deck's ginger evo rom with a savage zen kernel and netflix is running flawlessly.
See my problem wasnt just netflix though, no video file would work, avi, mp4, mkv.. no format would work but it could have just been rockplayer, although before I flashed the rooted odex by haus, rockplayer was working fine no matter what format I had. I didnt try other video programs though.

I'm using CM7 Nightly 100 and I've downloaded Rock Player and I play AVI, FLV and WAV format movies and clips with no problem what so ever!
If I were you, I would give other roms a shot before going back to the crappy stock world........BUT that's just me.

Or try different kernels instead..
Looks like HTC will release an OTA update that will fix the netflix issue on June 20.

[Q] Why AOSP ROMs do not play .avi files?

Hi people!
Any ideas on why AOSP ROMs do not play .avi files? I tried MIUI, Gingervillain and I'm now on Oxygen and can't play the above mentioned format with any player.
So far tried Rock player, MX video player, Mobo Player.
The Files I've tried was one movie file and one I have recorded some years ago.
First, I tought it must be te resolution, but it's well beyond 720p (720*576 and 640*480).
Any ideas?
I don't think it's limited to aosp roms, My stock htc sense rom never played avi files. But try qqplayer from market, from memory I think it plays avi

Yes, that's the problem.
Every Sense-based custom ROM (InsertCoin, RCMix, Coolexe's ROMs) plays those files I mentioned above - and even from gallery, so no 3rd party player needed. On AOSP ROMs I cannot play them at all.
Ah ok, try the qqplayer or stick with sense til they get it sorted

QQplayer latest version did the trick - strange but it did not work before.
Thanks!

Strange... just tested playing my avi files with mobo player (newest and armv7 codec installed) on oxygen 2.2.2. Worked without any problem.
Maybe you have to install armv7 codec for mobo player (can be found over android market) to get avi files working with mobo player. I assume you did not do it because you do not mention it.

I was using the same player with the correct codecs installed - just like you said.
But it did not work, maybe strange .avi files, but now qqplayer plays quite everything.
I'm also using QQPlayer... while desperately waiting for the 'messiah': the VLC for Android.

Rock Player on Oxygen 2.2.2 plays .avi files for me no problem.

[Q] Not able to play video on Mildwild v2.5

Is there anybody else who is not able to play video on new Mildwild v.2.5? I tried latest MX Video player, Vplayer, Mobo player, but no success. I also went back to Mildwild 2.1 and there is no problem to watch video with at least MX video player.
It looks like the only problem I have with this ROM so far.
Many thanks.
Checked the Rom thread for this problem?
Yes, I did, but didn´t find anything about video issue. Also to be sure that my Desire doesn´t have any hardware issue I flashed last available nightly CM 262 and with this ROM and MX player worked without problems. Fortunatelly I had backup of Mildwild 2.1, so I had to go back to this older version and MX video player works for me fine.

Video Problems

Hey guys, i seem to have ran into a little problem...so little actually that i just noticed it now (4 months after flashing the rom) lol
Im running RCMix 4.0 energized blue, with RCMix 3D v12.2 kernel (and V6 Supercharged), and it seems my phone (Desire Z, just in case) cant play movies. Everytime i try to open a movie (not .avi nor MPEG-4, the ones i tried so far) it says it cant play the file, but it does ask me what app would i like to use to view the video (ES Movie Player, or Stock Video Player...neither works).
Anyone got any ideas as to why this could be happening?? and more importantly, anyone knows how i can fix this??
Thanks!!
