[Q] CM7 Nightlies - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm just wondering of the currently nightlies, which one is running the smoothest? Also, if I'm on CM7 GB6, how do I upgrade to a nightly properly? full wipe and install?

http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
The latest nightlies. Download, and flash like any other rom. just be sure to re-flash the latest gapps with it to be safe.
Edit: Also, from 6+ they all include the wimax, so no worries there.

i think the easiest way is to just use Clockwork Rom Manager.
You can get the nightlies directly from the app, and also receive push notifications when they are released every night. It's very simply with Rom Manager.
Also, coming from an existing CM7 ROM, you don't have to do a full wipe when moving over to nightlies. It won't hurt, but i have successfully gone back and forth without wiping many times.

[Q] Rom manager question

I saw Cyanogen's latest tweet about the RC2 for his CM6 rom and that it's available here, his site and in rom manager. The problem is when i go to rom manager all i see for cyanagen is the nightlies. Should there be a seperate listing for the RC2 in there, or is the nightly from the day he released RC2 what i need to download.
I did purchase rom manager and have deleted and reinstalled it. I've also been searching on and off for the last couple of days but haven't found what i'm looking for. I'm currently running fresh rom right now but wanted to check out the latest CM6 build.

Just download it and reboot into recovery and it will be in your download folder. Flash it and your done. Make sure you wipe if your coming from a different rom.

I know that i can flash it that way, and i will later tonight. I'm just trying to see why it doesn't show up in rom manager as RC2, or if it is even supposed to show that like that. I have yet to actually flash a rom in rom manager, i always put the files on my sd and just go to recovery and flash. I figured i'd try rom manger out for once.

[Q] Working Market for CM7 or CM7 Build 1/2?

So thanks to CWMR 3.005 a lot of old zips don't work.
old_market.zip won't install.
New Market V2.2.11 won't install.
Vending_2_2_11.apk installs but FC's.
gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip installs and FC's.
Why are you flashing different versions of the market? Why didn't you just flash the official Gapps from the CM7 nightly or CM7 RC1 threads?
Also, do you have the latest CWM3.0.0.5? The newest version that supports 2.2 and 2.3 that is flashed from ROM manager, not the one downloaded and installed manually. I've been flashing the stock launcher (.zip) for several builds now with this CWM Recovery.
Edit: looks like the Gapps page is down for a few. There are people posting dropbox links to it though.

Because the official Gapps installs but the market FC's, as said above.

As said above, yes.
What's CM7 build 1/2? You might try flashing a full rom not half of one
Just kidding, though I still don't what you're talking about in reference to build 1/2.
Anyway, do a wipe and reflash it twice in recovery to make sure everything sticks. Then just use the market to load gapps. I think the market is past 2.2.11 now but I'll check for you and post the .apk if you want. Lastly, I'd run a fix permissions if for some reason it still fc's on you, then reboot.

Well I just wanted to double check. There was the pre-stable release of CWM 3.0.0.5 that only supported 2.3 and maybe this was the one you had causing issues.
I'd just try to reflash with a clean Gapps install and see what you can do about it. Also try simply wiping your market cache with something like Titanium Backup if you have tried flashing around all these different markets.

Just rooted my G2, got a few questions

I've got my G2 rooted with S-off and now I am just curious as to how I get the latest Cyanogen rom on it as well as whether or not i need to factory reset my phone or not.
thanks for any of the help
I just did it. Go to that thread where the rom is and there is a wiki link that tells u how to do it.
I'm by far not experienced with this stuff and have done it once before and it was very easy. I mostly used the wiki link.
From my permarooted overclocked HTC G2 with cyanogen 7 nightly via XDA app
I recommend you read and understand all the information regarding rooting, rom manager, flashing roms, how to restore nandroid in case things don't go correctly..
Always so a nandroid before flashing a new rom

I've rooted before on my G1 so i know about recovery, rom manager, and nandroid backups just was wondering if anything has changed since the G1, but I just figured it out, i'm currently running cyanogenmod 6.1.1
I am curious as to what cyanogen mod nightly is
Also I heard the best overclocking app for root users was setcpu, how is it? and does it work on the G2?

The CyanogenMod Nightlies are daily (nightly) updates to the ROM, that include the latest changes to it, most of which are experiments or small corrections. I'd only recommend flashing these if you have an interest in being on the bleeding edge of the ROM. For most people, the RC1 and then later on the stable CM7 mod will be best for them.
As far as installing CM7 (probably the RC1) goes, be sure to do a FULL data, cache, dalvik wipe before flashing. It just makes things much easier and lets you start off fresh while lowering the possibility of issues. It is very easy to simply flash through ROM manager and check the box for "wipe data+cache". I also recommend checking the "google addon" box as well, so you can get your Google Apps at the same time. If you don't you'll have to flash them separately later.
And as always, do a nandroid backup before you flash!
SetCPU is definitely the most widely used to regulate overclocks/underclocks and have profiles set, but CM7 also has a native overclocking system built into CMSettings that does basically the same thing.

Prepping for some Cyanogenmod WIMAX, few Q's

So I am currently running CM7 RC1 but I hear some of the new nightlies have WiMAX up and running. I have not had 4G on my phone since I first rooted and flashed my first rom on my phone months ago (November). Are there any steps like updating radios I need to take before flashing?
I have never updated my radios or PRL (are they the same?) and I know I need to flash a Sense rom to do so, so I will most likely do that. Any Sense rom recommendations?
Do I need to flash an updated WiMAX radio or is that also done within the Sense rom?
Also, which nightlies have WiMAX?
Sorry if I sound like a complete noob. I have flashed at least 20 roms on my phone (mainly MIUI, CM6 and CM7 versions) and am not a complete noob when it comes to flashing roms. I have just never updated my radios so I want to make sure I am doing it right!
Yes, updating the radio can't hurt. PRL and radios are related, but the same. The radio helps your signal strength and the PRL basically allows access to more towers to increase signal. You need to have a wimax enable kernel as well. Also nightly 6-8 [8 is the most current] have wimax.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 Has all the radios. You can flash the first link in recovery like any rom and you'll be all set. Also, any sense rom will do to update your PRL, myn's rom is nice. I find mykfroyo aesthetically unappealing.
Any of the nightlys currently available include wimax. The latest is #8 runs smooth with hardly any issues.
There are also combo radio zip to upgrade your radios. Do this. On a sense rom and make sure to update profile and prl. Then flash the nightly.
Also the kernal baked in works great. I can get 20 hours easy

So if I just download the top link in teh roxxorz link to the radios that says "Combo" that will update them all for me in one flash?
So how about this.
1. Flash Sense based rom
2. Update profile and PRL
3. Flash the "Combo" radio zip to update radios
4. Flash CM7 Nighltly (in this case the newest version, or the previous one since I have heard 8 has some issues)
5. Flash WiMAX enabled kernel (doesn't the stock CM7 already have a compatible kernel?) or maybe Baked in by your suggestion?
How do these steps sound? Any issues or am I good to go?
You're good to go. Just for reference, the included kernel has wimax, so you don't have to flash a new one if you don't want to.
One more quick question. I'm in the middle of doing these steps and everything is going great.
Does updating your PRL, Profile and flashing the WiMAX radios mean they will stay updated even if I wipe my phone and install new roms on them? Or do I have to update them every time?
They'll stay updated if you wipe all data ect. You will have to update you PRI though if you switch to a sense rom to update your PRL though, othwerwise you don't have to.
So I just updated my PRL, Profile and flashed the Combo WiMAX radio update while in Myn's rom. Now I am going to wipe and flash Cyanogenmod 7 nightly #8. So you are saying I still need to update my PRI after I get CM7 on my phone?
Just backup all your apps, and do a clean wipe. When going from AOSP <-> Sense, if you don't do a full wipe, you tend to get bootloops, and when you restore the apps, only do apps and data, not system settings.

You should do it before you flashed cm to save yourself time. But whenever you want just nandroid cm and update through sense.

Well seems you're good to go.
So it seems everything went well and I now have 4G!
The only problem I am having now is that Titanium failed me for the second time at restoring my apps! Again I have to redownload all of my apps from the market, then restore the data backups. It keeps giving me an error message when I try to restore the apps from Titanium. This happened on CM7 RC1 too.
Any recomendations for another app to backup and restore all my apps and data in the future? I am getting fed up with Titanium...

I think this is a known issue with TB on CM7 with the current nightlies.
personally, I use My Backup Pro. you can backup texts, mms, home screen layout and system settings. (obviously going from CM7 to say Myns you wouldn't want to restore system settings.) it can backup your alarms and so forth.
also it can back them up to the "cloud" so you don't waste space on your SD card.

Hmm, I guess I am not the only one which makes me feel better. I will have to try My Backup Pro. As long as it backs up my apps data I am happy, all my Angry Bird's progress...I shudder just thinking about losing it.... And yes, I would definately not restore system settings when going between roms, made that mistake once...
Edit: Oh yah, what is the difference between the paid version called My Backup Pro, and the free version My Backup Root?
I'm running the latest nightly but even in known 4g area the phone just keeps scanning. Checked my keys and that's ok.
Anyone else having this issue?

All prl does is update the roaming list. Adds new towers so unless u travel alot it's not such a big deal to worry about keeping this updated.
You will need to update ur profile anytime u mess with the radios with a sense rom to basically sync your new radio configuration or "profile " to sprint
And do yourself a favor and get. Sculpted 2.0 theme for the latest nightly. Shift really tricked this one out.

[Q] Do I keep my data when upgrading between CM releases?

Hi
I have been using the stock HTC Sense Android releases since I bought my phone about 1.5 years ago. Now that HTC, according the rumors, are no longer updating the HTC One X, I have decided to use CyanogenMod instead. For now I am using the stable 10.2 release, but I am planning on installing the 11.0 nighly, just to try it out. If the current nightly is working great for me I might keep it.
The only thing that I am concerned about is my apps and data. According to the posts in the ROM-section I can just flash a new release on top of an old one, but what will have happen to my data, settings and apps? Will the stay on the phone just like with the OTA-updates from HTC?

Yes All the data on the "sdcard" is still gonna be there.
Images, music, or something you downloaded is still going to be there.
However you will lose apps, and their data.
Usually we back them up using Titanium Backup. (Requires Root)
Restoring System apps' Data isn't recommanded for CM 11.0
If you got more questions, I'll answer them.
I wish you good luck

Hi
Thanks for the quick response.
I know that the data that is on my "sdcard" will stay as they are, but all apps that I download from Google Play are installed in the NAND-memory and normally when I change the ROM I do a wipe data/factory reset from CWM recovery.
But as stated in this post I can do the following when switching between CM11.0 releases:
Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 11.0:
Copy the CM 11.0 zip to your SD card
Boot into Recovery
DO A BACKUP
Flash the CM 11.0 zip from SD card
Flash the boot.img included in the CM 11.0 zip via Fastboot if necessary. If in doubt, flash it.
Reboot

By just looking at these steps it doesn't seem like it will remove any of my existing apps or settings.

I believe it's better to wipe data, and cache.
I am not sure if it works without wiping data and cache, and also not sure if it doesn't remove your apps.
So again, if you're rooted, just install Titanium backup. and follow the usual steps to flash the rom.
