[Q] Annoying loading box - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I use the back-key to close an app I get an annoying loading box that locks the phone for 5 to 6 seconds.
I'm running LeeDrOiD v2.2.2.
Anyone experienced the same?
Any solution?

Do you under-clock your DHD? Go to SetCpu and set max freq to 1036 MHz. Or maybe you had run some process which spend your cpu time all time on 100%?

SetCPU was on performance: 1036 max - 245 min.
Now with perflock disabled I get 1804 max - 245 min running performance.
The loading box now disappears after 3 - 4 seconds but it is still there every time I use the back key.

Attached is a screenshot.

Seems that sense crashes everytime you go to your homescreen. Have you tried a full wipe yet? Should fix it IMO.

How many apps do you have? Looks like android is killing sence in the background to save memory....

Being a gambling type of Guy, I would bet that,
A) Your using a task killer and have incorrectly set it up.
Or
B) Using "Spare Parts" you've set Activity/Process Management to Aggressive.
So how much have I won?

Hi Andy,
You are a hell of a gambling guy!
The second guess was bingo.
Thanks a million.

CPU power

Hi there, the current CPU max for Desire HD on stock is 1GHz.
If we change to other custom ROMs and it allows us increase the normal 1GHz to say, 1.5GHz.. (overclocking?) will it damage our hardware?
Cause as far as I know the software should be supported with a powerful hardware as well.
Overclocking always has the possibility to damage the cpu. And as not all cpu's are the same, if you want to overclock, the best way is to start of slowly say 1.1ghz. And keep stepping it up slowly. If your device begins to get unstable, go back a step, and you will pretty much know the level of your cpu fyi ive had mine overclocked to 2ghz and it seemed to run fine, although i didnt keep it at that level for long. lol
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I've been using minne over clocked at 1.5ghz since the day I bought it and I've not noticed anything as far as hardware failure. Being a computer technician I'm constantly trying to run what I have at the fastest rate without fail. I've not felt any overheating and per temps I've only seen about a 5-8°c increase over another user at work on the same ROM.

I have been running mine DHD at 1,2 for some time and ofc there is a chance that the CPU fries, because of the OC, but I don't think the chance is very big.
But please remember that the warranty of the phone dosn't cover overclocking
Hmm.. ok. Thanks for the advice.
I shall consider carefully before doing anything. Currently I am at only 1190MHz. Lol.
Anyway thanks again.
Well,I am running a really nice 1.8GHz,stable and fast as hell.Never noticed any overheating.
What most people should bear in mind is that the physical limits of our cpus aren't the ones that the manufacturers tell us they are with their spec sheets.Almost always, cpus are tested in higher clock speeds than what they are sold with, just to be stable and safe.
And one more thing.Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Flyer share the same cpu as the DHD?Cause it runs @1.5GHz stock. If they have the same cpu, guess what this means for us!

In setcpu,go to the info tab and do a stress test for some minutes. If it doesn't crash or anything you're good to go!
Thanks.
I did two ten-minute tests in SetCPU, the first 1,53Ghz and second 1.61Ghz, both without errors.
Anyone have any idea ?
Lol. Guess I will just try increasing the GHz slowly. Trying 1.3 now
I dived straight in, and set it to 1.5. No problems so far. Done a stress test successfully. But is there any need to increase the minimum level?

If you clocked your cpu too high, your complete phone will freeze. That means the only possibility to restart it is by pulling the battery.
If your browser closes suddenly without any notification, it's app related and not due to an overclocked cpu.

Well,to overclock you'll need a custom kernel, which means you'll have to be rooted and have at least clockworkmod recovery installed.ENG and Radio S-OFF are recommended.

ok I know, but I do not understand why when I enter the page, for example: speedtest, after a few seconds the phone is completely frozen (o / c) 1.22Ghz
I watch movies, play games, do tests, benchmark, etc. (o / c) 1.22 Ghz - 1.53Ghz. Everything is ok.
just a few seconds in the flash player and death:
Did someone try do downclock CPU to say 800MHz. Will it improve battery life?

Well,as AndroHero said,Flash is quite CPU intensive. However, your problem could be caused by the fact that your CPU isn't as "good" as others.By "not good" I don't mean that your CPU's quality is bad,it's just that it is unique like every CPU(nanometer scale devices like transistors are hard to be produced and be exactly the same one with another) and it might need you to up the voltages for higher frequencies. That by itself is no problem.
If the problem is indeed your CPU's limits,as it could be app related as Flussen said, and if you are running LeeDroid's rom or at least have his kernel installed,I could provide you with the OC script I am using myself. You see,I too am "suffering" from problems with the CPU not being able to handle too high overclocks,so I had to up voltages.Fortunately not much!
catevs said:

Well,in theory it should improve battery life. But calculating battery performance is a hard and tricky process.Just think about it this way;The CPU will run at lower voltages while at its reduced max frequency, thus needing a smaller electric current. However,it will need to run at the max speed for a larger amount of time. So,what you finally get is reduced drain, but for longer periods, meaning the gains in battery life could be minimum to non-existent.I for one am running 1.8GHz and battery life is just as good as @1GHz.

Desire suddenly got slow...

Suddenly my desire started to be slow...
S-off, pvt 3, Amon ra 2.0.1...
I feel it especially on scrolling home pages, the clock folds very slow, and when I'm charging, everything is really really slow.
Formated, did partitions again, still problem remains.
Changed 5 gb roms, and still problem remains.
Realy, it happened suddenly...

It really works.
Thanx, looks nice, but I don't think that this is my problem... Tried few roms, could it be something to do with setcpu ?
Usually I install it as soon as I flash a ROM... Installed it through all my tests in the last couple of days... Now uninstalled it, and things look snappier, faster and the charging issue also gone.
Still not fast like before, maybe its because no OC...
Could it be a cpu issue? I hope not....
Exactly when the 2.3 update coming... Damn..
Gonna try changing hboot and see if anything changes.
Did you used the script above for your desire?
I wanna be sure that i'm not mistaken - this script disappears after changing roms, right?
Because if it does disappear, so thats not my problem..., right?

Yeah . Did I **** the CPU? That's what i thought.
The phone went back to normal in the morning after I wrote the first post... Suddenly everything is smooth again.
I wanted to run more tests before I write something, but I think you kinda right...
Also now I remember that the same day it started, I used a charger that I never used before... From someone at work ...
So like I said, it looks ok now, but I'm realy wondering what caused it.
BTW, I'm using now also a script for over & under clocking...
It's ok for 3 days now...
It was ok for almost a year.
Thanx and if you can tell me anything, I will be glad...

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Really, because I thought the values are min 250, Max 998, no ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Default settings with perflock enabled are 998 constant. Devs here remove perflock and lower idle frequency to save battery.
I understand.
but I didn't change nothing, it appeared without any notice, any changing or flashing a new ROM, not even after installing an application. Suddenly ...
BTW, so you using 998 min and max all the time ?
You should not clock the CPU under 500 mhz cause then its when it will lag bad. Also watch out the phones temperature. If its hot it will be slow. Just take the battery off and leave it to cool....
You should also check the CPU governor. Ex: when set to powersave it will be slower
Also... Use SD speed increase (free app in the market) to make things a bit better and try to use Roms that have the dalvik cache on internal memory

Why do you say that? Ever tried to set the max frequency of the CPU under 500Mhz? It lags... And I'm not the only one having that issue.
Also my experience has showed that if the phone gets too hot(from a 3d game for example), it becomes less speedy until it cools

I am just pointing out that I don't get any lag waking the phone up, nor do I believe smartass with 245 min would be primary option of almost all developers here if it was as problematic as you say.

Best SetCPU Config for Desire

Hello
Does anybody use set cpu with HTC Desire ?
I would like to know wich settings work the best for you. I am trying to get the best compromise between battery life and performance.
Thanks
128MHz - 998MHz ondemand. I get more than enough life out of it. I found that if your using AOSP and not really doing much on it like just texting or calling people, capping the max to about 600MHz or 500MHz if you want, works a dream and you get even longer out of it.
Smartass is better or worse ?
I do not see any real difference between smartass and interactive in term of battery live and performance.
On demand seems to drain slightly faster than smartass.
I set my Desire to 384-1136 with interactive govenor.
I charge it once i a day each time before I go to bed anyways (sleeping time usually23.00 - 05.00), so further battery saving is not necessary to me
Edit...my normal usages are:
Syncs (no auto sync by opening):
Friendstream 4 hrs
News 4 hrs
Weather 6 Hrs
push Yahoomail
push Googlemail
push Whatsapp
push EBuddy
Active background :
Lookout antivirus
No app killer used
Phone calls : about 1-2 hrs each day
Music listening mit DSP add-on : 4 hours
Fruit ninja (man! this is addictive!) : 1 hrs
Browsing (Dolphin HD + Android market) : 2 hrs
welll....every time I charge my battery it is about 15-25% left till out of juice...if I use my phone more than those, I have to charge it earlier (more than once a day)
245 - 985 MHz Conservative give mere 36 hours power and running smooth.

For me the battery has never lasted more than a day... Even on my un-rooted one...
BTW: Battery live depends on many things
1. Your ROM and kernel
2. Your runnning application, syncs, etc.
3. your usage and settings such as cpu freq, display brightnes, airplane mode, etc.
4. Received signal quality.
5. The condition of the battery...is it top fit for example?
It is difficult to measure the battery live.
@atuladhikari : battery live has nothing to do with rooting..

I don't like using any of the other governors since I get lag. I hate lag. OnDemand gets rid of the lag for me. I've had it before where I was using smartass and it took ~30 seconds for my screen to turn back on from idle. I wasn't too impressed.
setcpu
thanks meaple for your advice
i think that set cpu is fine on "ondemand" for some roms and for others roms no
set cpu is included on oxygen settings and running well
Cool, I need to download Setcpu

screen off 128-384 ondemand

I get very good battery and performance with theses settings.

DidI do that?....I did.... LOL.
I used to use set cpu
set a profile like
Smartass
on charge - 1113mhz
80% - 100% - 998mhz
59% - 79% - 600mhz
35% - 58% - 500mhz
Screen Off - 300mhz
Priority was higher for lower battery %
BUT I stopped using it because of the little bugs, like when it changes to 384mhz for no reason after unlocking screen
It also affects the standard script with the rom you install, so you can never uninstall it properlu, you have to do a full wipe install and never install it, until I did that my phone was always a little laggy
I prefer my phone without it Each to their own
@shankly1985 - you didn't noticed wakeup lag with 128 MHz?
I must use 245 - x MHz to properly and fast unlock my phone.
Best Setcpu config for Desire is - no Setcpu at all.

[Q] Setcpu Configuration?

I've recently installed setcpu and kinda fiddled around with it too much. Is there a way to go back to default setting? Do I just uninstall and reboot?
I downloaded it at first to see if it can help with some performances in games but not really sure if it can help.
Any recommended settings for playing games? And then settings for normal/easy use of the device?
I'm currently on Telus, rooted device no CWM or other ROM or Kernels (Read setcpu actually doesn't take affect until custom kernel?)
Thanks again!

GTA 3 seems to be sluggish and lagging a decent amount. NOVA 3 seems to lag a bit as well, especially online it lags a crap ton (I doubt it's my wireless issue as other games seems to play fine over wifi).
Would you mind sharing one of your profiles for when the screen is off/sleep mode? I read a few threads and thought that is a great idea as some people have a profile from 12am-7am where the cpu is barely running and is near deep sleep mode of some kind.
Sorry to be bothersome but what were the default values for the cpu? I'm not sure what the ondemand and cfq mean. And do I need a custom kernel for setcpu to take affect? On the playstore someone commented that you need a custom kernel
Default is on demand cfq. The profile I have setup is for whenever I turn the screen off min 594, max 702. I've tried setting it lower but I find it makes it sluggish when I wake the phone up. As far as your games lagging I wouldn't be able to help you. Just make sure that power saver is turned off cause that defaults your cpu down to 1ghz max.

For the main, would it be okay to have max at 1512mhz and min at 384mhz? And would it be safe to have it max 1512mhz and min 1512mhz for games?
Yeah having your cpu running at maximum is fine, and during games having it cranked all the way up is fine too. Only thing to take into consideration is your battery.

Thats strange, on my setcpu only goes from 384mhz to 1512mhz. How'd you manage to get 1728 O_O
Also I'm not too sure if this is because I downloaded setcpu but for example say I'm on the third page from right/left of the home screen. When I press the homescreen, it doesn't fluently transition to the center screen or is this just me overthinking. I even tried uninstalling setcpu to see if that was the problem but doesn't seem like it helped. Not sure if the transition before was like this but kinda feels weird.
EDIT: If you look at the white dots below the icons, the left/right third screen from the home screen, when the home button is pressed the dot jumps to the middle, I'm sure there was a smooth transition where the dot moved through as the screen flips, but now the page just jumps

Unable to stick at lower CPU freq

I am currently using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306650 , but i doubt its the rom fault.
Using the MIUI settings, Antutu CPU master, or ROM ToolBox, applying a lower CPU max freq will not stick.
Ex: The max is 1890mhz, but i want it at 1566mhz for the max. After turning the phone off and on, the max CPU freq. goes back to the original 1890mhz. With a reboot, it sticks, half the time.
What do i do? Please reply ASAP, my S4 gets hot while playing games so i like to underclock it.
With many years of experience, the best thing I can tell you is to not place a MHz cap that is too high. Your phone can potentially be a potato if you're not careful.

Download CPU controller app from the market. It will reset your CPU upon screen on.

SetCPU has different profiles to configure. And which ROM are you on? There might be an init.d script adjusting the frequencies. SetCPU will apply them AFTER any init.d scripts are ran so that should fix it. I loved SetCPU till ktoonsez made his own app.

the rom i am on is in the first post.
How do i check the script if it is?
Meh, till i figure that out, time to use SetCPU. I MUCH prefer Antutu Cpu Master Pro, a profile for overheating? Hell yes, i set mine to 1.2ghz at 105 degrees F. and 1.5/1.6ghz when its normal. Helped ALOT

Oh darn. It worked for a bit. Now instead of going back to normal max frequency after a reboot or boot up, it does it when I'm using the phone.
Does PAC ROM have this issue? If not, I'll use pac rom instead. Or it may be a kernel problem? Idk much about android stuff

Sounds like the kernel is overriding certain things in different scenarios. I'd try a different kernel.
