[Q] Inserting and removing headphone a lot - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I do this a lot.
Probably a stupid question, but could I damage the headphone jack doing this?
Also, has anyone had problems with the power button after switching the phone on/off a lot?
Thanks

I've had this phone since day one. I plug my headphones in about 3-4 times a day. No problems so far, the power button seems sturdy too.

Thanks.
I insert and remove them more than that. Almost everyone I need to make a call in fact.

Screen doesn't respond to the touch

Well, it seem every phone I use in last 6 month getting this disease when you swipe or touch on screen and nothing happens, or when you press one key on keyboard and it inputs completely different character from opposite side of the screen...
Just now I had the same exact crap going on on Nitro!
I pressed and hold on back button on the gb keyboard and it was acting like I'm pressing random keys at 50 keys per second!
But before that I had trouble unlock the phone, since the slide off motion didn't register at all, the slider would move a few pixels and go back.
The weird fact is the most noticeable this occur when phone is plugged in and charging, unplug it and problem usually goes away or at least become manageable.
What the hell I'm doing to these phones that causing this? Actually this is the first phone where I f.k with the system files, all others I either used CWM or market, nothing else.
I have not had any touch screen issues with this phone other than its just a hair less sensitive compared to my captivate.
[email protected], are you a ghost? I have heard that sometimes phones will act strangely during use if you are a ghost. Something to do with spiritual electromagnitism. This would also explain why you are having compass issues!
Okay, so back to being serious. I've had the EXACT same issues you speak of when my phones (yes, this has happened to other phones too) were connected to 'dirty' power.
What I mean by 'dirty' is either a power supply that was very low quality or using a USB cable that the phone didn't like. Just recently my Nitro was acting erratically while I have it plugged into my computer. It shouldn't have been a problem because I was using a high quality, well shielded Blackberry branded cable (worked perfectly fine with my Nexus One), but as soon as I used the usb cable that came with the Nitro then everything worked correctly again.
Hope this helps!

Just got the same problem. Tried everything listed here to fix it. No luck.
Any other suggestions ?
I've found what Namuna said to be true. Also, I experienced this issue with my phone plugged into the power strip on the nightstand. Apparently there is a grounding issue in that power strip.

Could be it. I use a power bar also. Plus I think I'm using a cable from a galaxy nexus now that I think about it.
Maybe I'll try to find an official lg cable.
Thanks again.

I haven't had a complete loss of touch responsiveness, but I have experienced the erratic behavior; but only when plugged in and only while charging in AC mode. I've noticed this a lot more since I dropped my phone with the charging cable attached... I can be in USB mode and the slightest touch will knock it off charge yet I have no touchscreen problems. Once, every now and then, I am lucky enough to get into fast charging AC mode; which is much more stable as far as touching and using while charging... but the screen is almost unusable due to the erratic touches. I turned on "show touches" in developer options and while in AC mode, it shows multiple touches in a horizontal line relative to where my finger is. It even affects my soft keys.
Happens with every charger I've tried; my original charger, both HTC chargers I have, and a charger I found a few weeks ago. I've experienced the problem in my house, multiple hotels, and a few other places; both with and without a power bar. Pretty much, what I'm saying, I'm sure I've been connected to a good grounded source of power, yet I still experienced those problems.
Out of curiosity... have any of you either replaced or had your digitizer replaced? I've replaced mine twice, and my problems began shortly after cracking the screen the 2nd time.
Well i tried the charger that came with my optimus g (using a power bar ) and it seems to work fine now.
One more thing i did was try it without my memory card for a bit. I don't know if that had anything to do with it also.
Anyways so far so good.

nfc causes headset interference

hello all. i was just wondering if anyone else has this happen on their gnex. I went to plug it into my cars aux in port for the first time so I could listen to some tunes and noticed a lot of background hissing and clicking noises when the device came in contact with any part of me. If the phone was just chillin in the cup holder it was gravy but the moment I picked it up or set it on my lap the clicking would start again, being most pronounced when touching the back battery cover. Knowing that I had nfc on and that the chip for it resides in the battery I tried turning it off, and low and behold the clicking stopped. has anyone else noticed this issue? Granted its not a big deal by any means but if it's a hardware defect on my device I would like to know. thanks for your time
No, but I will try it tonight after work and see what it does and report back. This is the first I've seen/heard of this issue. Stock battery, extended? I have the extended on mine FYI.
This happens to me randomly, even without NFC enabled. I normally can fix it unplugging and plugging the headphones a few times.

i am experiencing problems with my desire hd.
every 3-5 minutes the car mode app starts for no reason and my gps starts receiving draining my battery. another strange thing is whenever i call someone it always starts the call in speaker mode...
i tried even deleting car mode app from titanium backup but stil it manages to start.-.-.
i also tried flashing cyanogen and every other rom with the same result.
any help?
thnx in advance..
its your micro usb port on the phone. Try cleaning it out with a pin or tiny screw driver. I was shocked at how much lint i pulled out of mine after a couple months of dealing with that same problem. Hasn't been an issue since.

thnx for your reply!!
but is that safe? what if i accidentaly scratch it? and how exactly shall i clean it.?
thnx in adnvance
...
I used a small flat head screw driver and dug out a bunch of pocket lint. As long as you don't bend the contacts you'll be fine. Just gently scrape around the contact, not the contact itself. I think the lint + charger causes the contact to be bent either up or down a bit tricking the phone into car dock mode.

[Q] Phone turns off when in pocket

Hi guys,
I searched but didn't find any fix for this. When I put my One X in my pocket sometimes the power buttons gets pressed and phone turns off.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I thought maybe something like if power button long pressed than it only brings up the pop up and doesn't turn off.
It's really annoying me, I would try to make it myself but I just started learning and don't feel that confident yet

Please people, there is really no NEED in replying if you have nothing good to say. You can keep it to yourself
Hello.
I have the same issue, and actually i asked about this before. The problem here is that the setting is hardcoded (i believe) into the phone (kernel) that when the powerbutton is pressed for 10 sec, the phone reboots.. I would like it to be disabled while locked (eg, phone locked in pocket, a 10 sec press on the power button does nothing....
Kind Regards

Cheap case from eBay. I bought one so bad that I can barely press the button when I want to so will never happen by itself no matter how tight the pants

Headphone jack problem??

Hello Everyone,
I am from India. I recently got my OP3.. and Its a absolute Beast!! But strangely I am facing the Headphone jack issues. When I enter the headphones into the jack the music plays and stops. The headphone jack seems to be loose. Not quite sure whether its a software issue or hardware issue. Can someone please help me over here?
P.S. I am running on OxygenOS 3.1.3. Can someone confirm if they are facing the same problem? or after the update the issue is fixed? I havent received my update for 3.2.1 yet. I have only 3 days to return and ask for replacement. Please Help :crying:
Push it to the end. I notices to my phone same issue, but it was solved when I press jack harder to the end. First I tought that there is some issues with a jack, but no..

If I push it completely inside it wont work. However if I just shake the cable little bit it works. although if the cable turns it the music stops.
P.S. Got a notification of 3.2.1 update. Will check and reply asap

I think your headphone jack might be worn off. I have tried 3 different earphones/headphones with my oneplus 3 and they all work flawlessly.
Try using a different headphone.

Do you completely push in the headphones? or do you just insert it half the way? If I push the headphones completely inside there's no sound. I have to shake the cable little bit or pull it little outside from the jack.
Also how's the battery backup? I am facing crazy standby battery drain. I havent even inserted a sim card yet.
Can I return and ask for a replacement? Does my accidental warranty become void if I ask for a replacement?
Please help!!:crying:

I completely inserted the headphone jack in. Maybe it is a hardware fault with your unit if you have tried it with different headphones and they face the same problem, or the pair you use work without any issues on other phones.
I don't experience high standby drain. It drains around 2-5 % through the night. My phone is rooted but I don't have greenify or any other battery saving apps installed. Try factory resetting your Device and see if you face the same problem.
Battery backup depends on the usage but for my usage with a lot of youtube streaming, and instant messaging, Web browsing on wifi only I get around 5-6 hours of sot. With 4g and using it for navigation and normal Web browsing and messaging I get around 4-5 hours of sot.
I am also same facing same problem with one plus 3.
