Few questions - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First I want to thank all the devs and everyone who created these threads chalk full of info I needed to learn/how to root my g2, flashing roms, and etc. I went crazy and flashed every kernal rom I get my hands on lol. But now I'm bored flashing roms and kernals...need something new....so I decided to look into radios...(i know flashing radio can brick phone) but the idea of finding better signals or faster 4g speeds I couldn't help it...lol
Normally I don't like asking I perfer using the search engine to find what I need...only way I learn...but I cant find the answer to my question....
I recently flashed radio 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17...everything working great no problem...but when I look into about phone...it tells me my baseband version is 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2...umm where did that U and M2 come from? What does it mean? Nothing broken everything works fine...I still want to know why.....
I want to know how and the why's lol

[Q] Whats the difference between the inc radios?

I have 2.15.00.07.28 and I saw people with 2.15.00.09.01. Should I update my radio? Is it better? And if yes, what is the procedure?
I am on virtuous 2.7+powersaving kernel and Inc rEVOlution theme + other mods (trackpad wake, dsp, hulu etc etc). Dont know if all ROMs like all radios or not so posting my setup to be on the safe side.
Good question... I have not even seen the updated radio anywhere, so good info too!
honestly, i wouldn't worry about it. If your phone is working properly the radio is the last thing i would mess with.
a bad rom or a bad kernel can easily be fixed through recovery....
a bad radio = Bricked!
most roms just require 2.xx
you are fine.
But if you want to know a lil more...

Im no expert or dev but I've read on some devices if you flash a bad radio there is a way to fix it, but it requires alot of knowledge of something I think is called jtag or something of that sort

[Q] about Radios and Stock Roms w/ root

Hello xda people!
I have some kinda noob questions about almost everything, please help me as I didnt really find something about it yet.
Q1: Radios
I have searched many internets but I didnt really find an explanation of the differences of the radio versions from Desire z. What are those?
I guess its all about energy efficiency and stability like higher version is better. Is that true?
Q2: Stock Roms w/ Root
Are any 1.72 stock Roms out there with root?
As I understood the ruus overwrite everything, would it work to just take the rom out of it and flash that without replacing recovery and boot. Then till what version does gfree work?
Im sorry but this whole Android and HTC thing is extremely confusing.
(Remind me if my post doesnt make sense, as I am now finally going to sleep after 3 days.)
peace

Wildfire S On US Cellular, best rom?

Looking to put a better rom than the stock, bloated one that came from US Cellular. I'm in the states, and every working rom I find seems to allow calls or data and can't connect to my network. What's the best rom to run on my phone?
Bump, anyone? I read somewhere I need to flash the radio to get it to work, but I don't know where to find the file for the radio to be flashed. I wouldn't mind using the cyanogen mod even with it's horrible tearing issues if I can get the phone to actually work.

I am Having The Same Problem With My WS I am Also On Us Cellular And Would Love To Hear If There Is A Fix For This yet
curious
US Cellular is CDMA, right? If so, you want to look into PRL rather than radio. Stock radio should be fine... PRL [if your downloaded rom supports it] is what will get your data working I think. Also, when you guys power up into hboot does it show marvelc or marvelct? If either of you two care to, pm me and I'll try to work a rom up fot you.

Test Rom
Working up a test rom for US Cellular. Will send it to my contributor first to test; If all goes well, I'll start a thread over in the development section for you guys.

Hey guys... tested the "stock" rom I made for you guys, and it works on VM USA as well. I don't suppose anyone would be brave enough to test the VM USA one on their US Cellular phone [of course make nandroid before test, then flash back to it on conclusion]? It sucks really; VM disabled FM Radio and Wifi Hotspot [which I am re-enabling for a final release on that thread... but I think I'll build on your rom... It's just cleaner. Probably will make a debranded thread so the "stock" threads can fade down the development thread. So ideas of what you guys would like to see?
ie
Odexed and/or Deodexed?
Apps that should be added?
ie Terminal Emulator, Adobe Flash [full to replace lite], WiFi tether, etc.
Bloat you'd like removed?

Tested the Vm Rom on my us cellular worked fine. Was weird seeing the Vm boot up. But like u said no fm n WiFi hotspot on it sux. Now as for wut I would like to see for a new Rom. Data2sd would be nice I know I have seen that after awhile it starts to lag a bit. But I would still like to have the option to use it or least test it. Unbranded. Deodex. All the stock uscell apps can go cuz I never use em anyways but if Ur building off my original Rom I think the only uscell app I hadn't removed already was tone room deluxe. And like I had said to you earlier once I get going on my own Rom and get better at it. We can just go hog wild

This section is more geared towards Paranoid Android ROM, which focuses mainly on nexus devices.
