I accidentally dropped my phone on concrete floor and shattered the screen My claim has been approved yesterday morning, but hasn't shipped yet. I'm wondering if anyone here knows how long am I gonna have to wait to get my replacement? They said up to five days, but I just figured i would ask people here who have already gotten their phones replaced.
They were extremely fast when I had to make a claim. Unfortunately that was the only thing they did good, I got stuck with the phone they sent me even though it was garbage and had a busted speaker.
I have best buy's warranty now since there is no deductible and you can make more than one claim, I havent had to use it though so I dont know if they are easy to work with.

When was that, exactly? Also, you should call them up and demand a new phone. That's unacceptable and they will replace your phone, no questions asked.
wait a minute even after paying deductible u still get a used or a refurbished EVO?

It was around December last year, it was for my old HTC Touch. I had just quit smoking at the time and had to leave the sprint store before I got arrested, I was seriously about to back hand the girl who told me "it wasnt that bad."
I have been compensated by sprint in other ways so I havent left them yet but I just noticed on my new bill they are charging me fees and taxes for Arizona + the state I actually live in. And I have never lived in or even been anywhere near Arizona. So yeah, they are trying my patients.
I've had the same phone number for almost ten years now, great way to treat your loyal customers huh

part of your contract.
asurion is a major insurance provider, almost every carrier. and you are supplied with refurbished replacements as necessary.
Just made a claim for my EVO yesterday. It seems to me that they're too new to be replaced by refurbished models. A couple friends who work at separate Sprint stores seem to think the same thing, but have yet to see any EVO's replaced yet. We will see and I will update when it comes in.
I made a claim Saturday, and it arrived yesterday (Wednesday). Once it was processed, it was overnighted....and get this.....BRAND NEW!
I made a claim on Tuesday (7/27), it was approved on 7/28 & the CC information was taken then as well. I have no idea when my replacement will come but I will also update when I get it.
My current shattered evo still works & I am trying to consider the cracks in the screen a live wallpaper, but thats not really working.
despite what the best buy sales reps might tell you, their insurance gives out refurbs as well. personally i really like refurbs, since your less likely to have problems since the item has now been double/triple checked. my experience with refurbs has been excellent, YMMV. best buy salesman told me sprint insurance deduct is 150 (lie) and you can only make 1 claim a year (lie) and best buy gives you a new phone, not refurb (lie again). i actually have both insurances on my account right now, not sure why. if i break it maybe i can get 2 new (refurb) phones

Why would you want to pay for both insurances?
I learned the hard way about BB insurance - Dork Squad protection only covers manufacturer defects, normal wear & tear, and does NOT cover lost, stolen, physical or water-damaged phones. Nor do they repair your phone on-site in their store (unlike some Sprint stores) - rather, they send it out to a repair center to get it fixed, with a $150 deposit for a p.o.s. loaner phone while it's out for repair, and they will ONLY replace it with a new phone if they deem your phone unrepairable at the repair center. Funnily enough, it took the dork at the Dork Squad counter longer to fill out a repair claim form than it ever did for me to fill out a claim online at Asurion.
Considering BB charges $10/mo for their insurance (which is already covered by Sprint, or whatever phone company, as well as the manufacturer) and a $150 loaner deposit, whereas Asurion charges $7/mo with a $100 deductible for a refurbed phone (although I think Evo's are new, since my replacement was hehe), I wouldn't waste my money on BB's insurance again. I'm still fighting with them to replace a laptop they've fixed 3 times within a year under their dork protection's 'lemon' clause, and they continue to insist my screen was replaced 3 times for different reasons each time...but that's another story lol.
oh, and the ETA for my replacement Evo was about 5 days (claimed on a Friday night, got it on a Wednesday).

The phone is coded as such. ##786# will tell you refurb status and date. If its new it will say " <Not Available> " under both of those.

Thanks. I thought my replacement was refurb as the store manager was claiming as such. I had to file a Sprint warranty repair since my USB port snapped off the board from normal use.
Loving my replacement. No light leakage + Epson + 003
I pay the $7 per month, and I want to eventually trade in my 002 EVO for a newer model before I upgrade to something better (talking months and months from now). I want to know basically what will get me a new EVO and how much it will cost me. I already have the light leakage around the bottom buttons, and I know most would see that as a huge flaw. Any input is appreciated.
Why don't you just go into a Sprint store now and trade the phone in for a newer hardware version. That's what I'm going to do since my camera lens cracked and the horrible light leakage. It IS a big deal to me because I watch a lot of movies at night on my phone.
If you claim insurance on your phone you should let them know of the issue with the light leakage (or any other issues) so you can send your phone back in to them. If you are intending on keeping the phone and selling it that would be considered fraud but it's your choice.

So I just walk in and let them know that I want a fixed device? And I intend to keep the new one for a couple weeks before selling it. I just won't want to sell off one of the launch models with the problems associated with that.
what's the diff between the launch and current models besides the light leakage?
If it's anything like other cellular insurance claims you won't be able to keep the "defective" phone. But if you did file a claim you would be subject to the deductible, 50-100 dollars I believe?

No, no. I don't want to keep my 002. I want to exchange it for a newer version that will sell for more when I upgrade. I just wanted to know what it took to get them to swap it out.

Sent from my HTC Supersonic.
I've been dealing with Sprint for a long time and I have abused their insurance policy as well so let me give you the breakdown for it.
First off, what the Sprint Total Equipment Protection Plan (TEP) is not. It is NOT an upgrade plan. Meaning you can't go in and ask them to swap your phone out just because you want to. There are ways to get "free" upgrades, but I won't go into that. Which brings me to my next point.
Sprint will only swap out your phone if there is something wrong with it. In other words, if its Sprint/HTC's fault or it is not working properly for some reason and it is NOT YOUR FAULT. Defects, software failures(MAJOR), etc. When you tell them what is wrong with your phone, be as DETAILED as possible. They will always reset your phone to factory defaults and try to reproduce the issue. If they can't reproduce the issue, they will return it and say its working fine now. If they reproduce it, they will try to repair it. If they can't repair it, they will order you a replacement. THIS IS FREE
ALSO NOTE: This is Sprint's general policy. There are exceptions, and depending on the person you get, they might be able to do more for you. But this is what you should expect!
If there is damage due to a drop, water damage, or anything that is YOUR FAULT, they will tell you to go through Asurion. Sprint's insurance carrier or w.e the terminology is. This is when you have to dish out the $100 copayment. Only do this if you messed up big time by cracking your screen, dropped it in the toilet (EWW), etc.
Now some extra tips: You want to call Sprint's customer service first. Tell them about your problems, go through their "troubleshooting". If they fix the issue, great! If not, then after you are done, make sure they note your account that you called regarding the issue so when you go into the Sprint store they will have your information. BE POLITE! Trust me it goes a long way.
When you get in the Sprint store, go to their repair center. Tell them you called Sprint's customer care and was told to come in. Give them EVERY SINGLE problem associated with the phone. If it is a defect such as the light leakage, make sure they know that it is a known issue and to check their database. I recently lost 4G cause I lost my RSA keys (stupid WIMAX Radios). I unrooted and went into a Sprint store and just basically said, My 4G isn't working. They did their usual checks. Made sure it wasn't rooted, latest update, factory reset, update profile, etc. They couldn't fix it so they ordered me a replacement phone and i got it the next day.
Just to add:
It really depends on how helpful their repair department / manager is. Some will swap out your phone without an issue even if you walk in and say "I want a new phone because this one isn't as bright as my friends."
Others will make the whole process feel like you are pulling teeth! It depends on the person. I suggest if you get this type of person, ask for their supervisor or if they are the supervisor, go to another Sprint store. But also think about what you are asking for. If your phone "feels" different in your hand than your friend's Evo, they will almost NEVER replace your phone. Cause come on. That's just unreasonable. But if there's light leakage, major lag, your battery dies in 2 hours, 4G / 3G, etc doesn't work. Your phone reboots over and over AND ITS NOT YOUR FAULT, then they will try to fix it or get you a replacement.

I would add, That this guy is right with everything he is saying.. It depends on the person.. Which is weird because they should have proper guidelines... But obviously they can alter them because I have walked in before and got a new phone just because I didn't like it (got a new one) and then the opposite..
Didn't Sprint recently overhault their replacement policies, though? What was all of that about free replacements if you pay the $7 fee for bascially anything except water damage?

It hasn't changed. They didn't explain it in full.
The $7 basically covers repairs in store and any non-fault issue your phone is having. If you broke it all on your own, you have to pay the $100 deductible. So you dropped your phone down a flight of stairs and the screen cracked. Now as for the camera lens cracking, you can say its cause the damn camera lens protrudes out and you put it down and it cracked. They know about this already and its just a design flaw. Hence why people are getting replacements because of that.
What did change a while back was it used to be $50 per claim. Now they jacked it up to $100. It used to be a great way to get cheap phone upgrades as long as Asurion ran out of replacement phones or your phone is so old they don't support it anymore. In that case they would give you the next best thing.
Sekigah, you couldn't be further form the truth. Here are the official guidelines, as of Oct 23rd:
The only reason to put in a claim with Asurion and pay the $100 is for the following:
Liquid damage
fire damage
loss/theft
complete board destruction
- For complete disclosure, complete board destruction is classified as the motherboard being in 3 or more pieces, however extreme trauma to the phone will force you to go through Asurion. If your motherboard is actually visible, but it;s in one piece, it should be replaced free of charge in store. This depends on the tech, the store, and the manager, but knowing the guidelines helps you out.
Now fixed in store, for free:
Broken hinges, housing damage, broken antennas, shattered screens/LCDs
And finally, if you do NOT have TEP: Don't bother coming in claiming manufacturers warranty, because we will send you right to the manufacturer. Any repairs done in store, or replacements that have to be ordered, and you do NOT have TEP, cost $35. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is payable either when you phone is fixed, or before the phone is ordered for you.
As far as the above example: If you dropped your phone down the stairs and you have TEP, the phone is still relatively in one piece, but the screen is shattered? Your phone gets repaired/replaced for free.

I didn't get any updates in the mail from Sprint on this cause I have TEP so this is news to me. Thanks for the update. I stand corrected. This makes the $7/mo charge worth it.
So take the mindset I had and just pretend that everything but dropping it in the toilet and setting it on fire or losing it is free. The latter costs $100 LOL
More or less, if its damaged beyond repair = Asurion and almost everything else = free repair if under TEP and $35 if not. Thats sexy.
Yes, as long as your phone isn't in three pieces and you have TEP, it is free. Now they get to bring in the $$ cause more people will but the insurance. And most people don't ever use it. In fact, until I got the Hero last year I had never used my insurance. Now I have used it twice. Once with busting the speaker and once with my Evo because it would not stop rebooting. Didn't pay anything. I felt like I got special treatment because I had insurance.

From my own experiences...
With sprint's insurance a lost phone and $100 will get you a refurbished POS that will most likely be much worse than the phone you have now, complaining about it after you get it is futile as well. I lost one phone in ten years and I was furious at the phone they gave me. It came with a busted speaker and a glitchy screen.
I got rid of their insurance and am going through best buy atm. Supposedly, as long as you keep all the pieces, you will get a brand new one if you ever break your phone. I'm not sure if it covers lost phones though.
Actually, if you get a bad phone from asurion, it has a one year warranty, so have them replace it.
Best buy will not simply give you a new phone, they ship it to their center and repair it (over the course of 2 weeks) while you wait.
As for not knowing the new policies, it was mailed to everyone inside your bill a few months back.

so ive recently dropped my phone, screen cracked, no biggie, so i take it to the sprint store that repairs it like i did the past few times, however this time they say they have no wide cable screens in stock to replace it. so i ask "When will you have it back in stock?" she says she doesnt know, so i ask "Is there a way i can have that ordered for my phone?" she says no and goes on a long rant about how another customer hasnt had his fixed for months and suggests me to a competitor that fixes phones. if i paid for the full coverage insurance and they cant fix my phone, what should i do to fix the screen? should i call customer service and demand a replacement free of cost because the company stopped making my screen? or will i be stuck with the 100 deductable

Ok I think you are a little confused. Asurion is your insurance company, which has nothing to do with sprint. If you already paid 100 dollars for the deductible, then you paid that to Asurion, and THEY should be sending you another phone, either a refurb 4g or a new evo 3d. They don't fix phones, they just send out whole phones.
Now, sprint will usually fix phones in their stores if you have TEP (which you do). Sometimes they will do it for free, sometimes they will charge like 25-25 bucks. But as you stated, they said they are out of those screens. So you can either try a few more stores, or go through Asurion (which it sounds like you already did by paying the deductiuble).

sprint techs are very helpful and usually fix cracked screen if person adds insurance.

I just replaced my screen 30 minutes ago. Bought a housing off Ebay for $80 and replaced it myself. You just need a #00 phillips screwdriver and a plastic prying tool.
I'm up in NorCal, if you were closer I'd do it for you just for the price of parts.

If you know somebody that works for sprint we can add insurance for you them just run the claim for $100, then cancel the insurance. I would recommend insurance tho.

Dont know anyone personally that works at sprint.
I called my Sprint Rep since my account is a Business account i got my phone last oct or nov 2011 and she said the only thing she could do is hook me up with an early upgrade and get the same phone for $120 but that doing this would extend my contract. Dont want to do that first i want to see whats up with Sprints network and phone line up for this year.
Anyone that works at sprint that is in my area hit me up pm or something.

I saw 10 of them when I was looking for my replacement. Here's one for $90 as a buy-it-now. http://goo.gl/OqJZj
They seem to come and go all the time, I would look and see 3-4 and then 3 hours later see 10 or so. 3 hours after that I would see only 2. I missed getting a white housing for $80 (just something to change up my phone).

here's the thing. any kind of super AMOLED screen (epics, epic touches, nexuses) are going to be extremely expensive. im actually a lead technician in a preferred retailer store and know for a fact that corporate stores will not fix shattered screens. plus, we are not allowed to exchange the phone for another due to the amount of physical damage. THE ONLY way we can fix those screens is if you yourself come into the store with the part, or we are able to find parts for cheap. because there is such a shortage of each screen from reputable 3rd party dealers, finding a store to fix it for you isn't going to really work. REALLY should have gotten insurance.
if i did have insurance how much would it have cost to getting this fixed?
So does anyone know if there is a time factor for Asurion claims? My e4gt has had a cracked screen for sometime now and when I started a claim months ago I wasn't able to do it due to sudden financial woes... Anyways I would assume that I should still be able too do so, right? I mean I'm still paying for the insurance .. As of just a few days ago I bricked it... So a busted screen that no longer lights up except for the beautiful blue led seems like they may go together I would hope, lol! Anyone have any info on the replacements? This is my first phone with Sprint and before this I had cricket, you just paid 85 dollars and got your replacement right there...
If you have TEP I'd just take it into a repair center.
Asurions rule ia hat there has to be usage on the device your looking to get replaced within he past 60 daya. so if you swapped to an old phone over two months ago, Asurion wont replace it for the $100 deductible unless you put the phone back on. Try going to a cell phone repair store firat though. 3RD party non corporate stores have leeway if they have the parts. theres also some spots that just repair phones for a fee, regardless of insurance or carrier.

He said the glass replacement and the digitizer and labor will cost that much... Guy is crazy! I think that's the only place decently close that I know of. But now the phone WILL have to be replaced now that its a paperweight...

He's quoting you mostly labor then because the digitizer assembly is less than $100 online and it's easy as pie to replace.
confused you trying to fix your glass or get a new phone. If you are trying to obtain a new phone then I suggest you go on Sprints website lookup repair centers in your area and take your phone there first. Give them whatever story you like and see what happens. Then and only then if you can not get them to replace your phone you can go through Asurion or try taking it to a Sprint store and play dumb....
Choices:
Sprint Store: $35 or free replacement
Sprint Authorized repair: Refurb phone in a day or two as long as you have insurance
Asurion: $100
The choice is Yours-----

Originally I wanted to get it fixed.. Its bricked now.. I mainly needed to see if anybody knew if there was a time restriction for a claim. I started one a while back but never completed it. I kept using the phone but I bricked it a couple days ago. Now that I have a backup phone to use I was wanting to get it fixed.. I will look at the rapair centers though. Thanks for the info!
