I'm running the deodexed ROM on EXT4 using the latest CWM, so yeah.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
Download and flash the one that says "Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6"
After you install the ROM via ODIN, flash into CWM3 and let it do its thing and you'll have EXT4/.
thxs everyone. I dl from the post above. Im very happy, even happier with the blur patch and extreme happy at 1.2 ghz. Lifes good again.

I want to flash the EC05 rom. I found one that is prerooted and can be flashed using odin but it is RFS only. However, the phone was previously flashed with cm3 and converted to ext4. If I flash it using the method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209 with CM 2.5 can I then flash up to the EC05 using odin? Or is there no way to go back to RFS? I am very new to doing things with the epic and I have been looking around for a stock EC05 that supports ext4 that I could just flash from the CM 3 recovery but haven't found one yet.
Odin does not care what is currently on your phone. If you flash the Pre-rooted EC05, it will overwrite what is currently on your phone.
That is what I thought but I wasn't sure. I think I have pretty much convinced my brother to just let me flash it with a custom EC05 rom that supports CM3 such as syndicate or midnight.
Let us know how it goes, I have seen quite a few customers who did the EC05 OTA really screw up their devices, radio dropping and power cycling quite a bit.
ONE OF THEM HERE! ! ! the EC05 ota update turn my phone into a slow waste of technology! Fortunte really because it made me root and flash ROMs.
in regards to the pre-rooted EC05.... i have yet to add this to my arsenal... if anyone has a link handy id appreciate it.
just flashed back to DK28 for the Ironman ROM......would recommend, all i can say is whoa! ! !
Why do you have to flash to a stock rom before moving to a custom rom? If I want to install Viper 5.0 on EB13, why do I have to go to stock EB13 first? Just curious. If I flash to the stock EB13, does that change the modem to EB13? I'm on DK28 now with Viper Trinity 2.0 and want to try 5.0...Why can't I just do the wipe 3 times and then flash the custom rom? I just want to understand this is all.
Thanks,
Kevin
Its worth a try.... if it doesn't boot you'll have to odin anyway. Wipe everything 3x each and flash your rom and see if it fixes it. Also, you can always flash different modems with odin.

Sure, but that doesn't really get to the root of my question. When I went from EC05 stock to DK28 ViperRom, why did I have to flash to the stock DK28? what significance does this have?

It is probably due to the modem compatibility and support files. Most ROMs include all support and stock files needed but may remove bloatware. Some check for modem and will install the needed modem, others not. For EB13 and EC05 ROMs the support files and data are compatible but not necessarily with DK28 since that was an early leak.
As mentioned, back up your stuff and you can always try without Odin'ing first and if you get no errors you are good to go.
you dont have too., you could just odin the modem, and flash the rom... unless you have to change from rfs to ext4 or vice versa

You can use any available modem with any rom or cwm that you may be interested in. They are entirely seperate things. You can get the modems in the thread below. You need to use Odin to flash them. I believe there are sufficient instructions and videos.

For each new build, or software attempt at a build, they label it with a date code which corresponds with the baseband version or the modem. So EC05 is the accepted modem for Froyo. There have been many Gingerbread leaks so far, EF02, EF10, EG22, EH06 and EH17. They each came with an updated modem. However a lot of people have found it best to try these leaks and not update the modem and stay with the EC05 modem. The modem software basically tweaks the actual radios on the phone. So results vary by phone as to what would work best for you.
I am using 2.2 and kernal version 2.6.32.17, build number 3.70, this phone is already rooted, but never had any ROMs installed.. how can I upgrade to 2.3.3 and then root that? I assume ill have to back up everything to my pc from my sd card? I hope someone can steer me the right way, and its not as complicated..
If you are rooted, choose a rom that you want that has 2.3.3 there are plenty out there, even the sprint lovers rom or even synergy if you want the new sense 3.0 features.
Download which you want put the zip on the root of your sd card.
Find caulkins wipe zip, which is in one of his threads, put that on the root of your sd card as well.
Load up recovery(can be done by vol down+power when powered off)
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash caulkins wipe zip.
Flash the rom you want.
Reboot.
When i tried to flash the caulkins wipe zip I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgradeing to the clockworkMod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update- binary) to create working update zip package.
It rebooted. So then i wet in ROM Manager and tried to install the synergy room and i got an installation aborted error and my evo restarted and the stock rom came up as if brand new, all contacts/apps gone. Luckily i made a backup and was able to restore.. what could the problem be?

If you have S-off then you already rooted. Just flash a rooted stock ROM.
**CLICK HERE** and go to post #2. That has links to the latest rooted stock ROMs.
Don't forget the thanks button.
Op I think you should run decks aosp rom. The problem you are having with the amend script is because you're running clockwork mod recovery. Now you have 2 options. If you decide to go with the rom I would recommend, you should go in the link below and follow all of the instructions.
If you wanna flash what you were trying to flash before, go to the link below and somewhere in the first post you will find a link to amon ra recovery. Flash that recovery and then you can follow the instructions you were trying before

That may not be a 3.0 version, some roms were sense 2.1 build with 3.0 features, like lock screen, ect.
Ah gotcha, no complaints, still nice compared to the 2.2 stock that shipped out with Sprint..

There are full 3.5 roms in the dev section, if you still wanted one.
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S2. Rooted it withe hercules tar kernel on Android 2.3. When I upgraded to JB the kernel no longer worked (couldn't root). I tried flashing Cyangoen 10.0 and 9.0 but neither wokred (Waited 20 minutes and nothing). Is there a kernel I need to flash with ODIN?
Also, looking for a good place to learn abot kernels in genral.
Many thanks.

Kernel is causing the problem. Flash only kernel which is made for specific rom/android version. follow this if you want to flash via Odin. I recommend you to install CWM because its easy, safe and time saving.
Installed CWM Recovery, tried to flash Cyanogen 9...now it keeps rebooting back into CWM...can't access the Recovery menu. I downloaded the updated kernel. How do I get it flashed?
I was able to connect via ODIN. Can't get recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-hercules.tar to flash.
restart your computer log back in and use a different USB port and make sure you have all the DRIVERS for the phone plug it in flash the ODIN CWM file then you should flash an ICS ROM then flash JB to avoid any hiccups 2.3.4 is a big jump to JB might be giving you errors and you are rooted correct ?
Thank you. Yes I'm rooted an runnning smoothly with Juggernaut ROM for now. Want to change to Cyanogen 9.0. I'll flash the ODIN CWM file as you recommend. Where can I find a good ICS ROM and JB? Didn't know the jump from 2.3.4 to JB would be so big.
Many thanks.
what do you prefer the more stocky looking approach or you into AOKP/CM if you like stock then anything from PTMR and JAMISON904 are on point and very stable if you want some options and custom stuff look into the CM/AOKP around here in the development forums since you are rooted i would download a nice ICS you wont be on it long so doesnt matter lol and then finally jump ship to JB give it time for the battery to settle in becuase there was nothin like GB as far as the battery life goes this one guy who has amazing work and dedication http://goo.im/devs/Cl3Kener anything on there will do you justice when you get to the JB stage good luck and happy flashing!!
C13Kener DOES have some amazing stuff. Thanks. I see that he has a nice ICS stock ROM (Samsung-Stock-4.1.2-Tiberius-Kernel-1.1.zip). Can I just flash that from recovery or do I need to flash a new kernel via ODIN beforehand? Apprecaite your patience and help.

I think there is some confusion here. A ROM is not the same thing as a kernel.
I think thats where I'm having trouble. I have an older kernel (recovery-cwm-hercules.tar) and need to upgrade it before I can flash an ICS ROM. Don't know where to find kernels for the ROMS I want to flash. I thought some ROMs came with the kernel embedded in their zipfile, but finding thats not the case. ODIN is fairly easy to use, but I don't know where to find the right kernels for ROMs like Cyanogen.

Recovery is a tool used to flash ROMs and do backups.
TWRP and CWM are recoveries.
ROMs are the operating system of the phone. They come with a kernel. The kernel is what boots the phone into the OS. You can flash a different kernel if it matches the type of ROM you are on. I hope that clears up some of the confusion.
