so its better to unlock bootloader phone for CM9 that coming?
Anyone know how long it takes for someone like cyanogenmod to implement it or how long it will take someone to make a port to the play?

CyanogenMod based on ICS will presumably be CM8. And it wouldn't hurt to unlock your bootloader now for CM7. Many report it works just fine on the GSM side of things.

It will take a while. Don't hold your breath for the Cyanogen team to get this in soon. There is a lot of work that goes into making a Cyanogen port from the source of the AOSP. It has to be merged, approved, tweaked, approved, tested, approved, and then you might see some fruits of the labor.
As far as a raw AOSP build, you might be holding your breath there too, on account of the fact that no one yet has build a Gingerbread AOSP build to the play.
I am SO stoked right now. Skyrim, and ICS source..It's been a good few days

CM7 - Gingerbread, G = 7th letter.. Cm8 would be honeycomb but it's closed source so presumably it will be cm9. Could be wrong tho

Cyanogenmod 9 has already been confirmed to be ICS.
Cyanogenmod 8 will be Honeycomb if the sources ever get released.
Naaah CyanogenMod8 is reserved for honeycomb but it will never be release. Why should they? ICS Source come out soon and they will include a teblet version to wich looks a lot like honeycomb. So there is no reson for anybody to work on honycomb.

Do you still try it with the sddk or are you working with the source code? Bocouse woring with the sdk does not have much sense when the sourcecode is alredy out.
I will build ics with the source code.
but i am in a learning phase
Best wishes. It's great to see new people daring to step up and learn for the benefit of the community.

Too many Similiar ROMs

Hey fellow XDA members
Like many of you, I'm a really frequent ROM flasher, and every now and then, I find my phone on a CM9 or AOKP ROM. When the first CM9 and AOKP ROMs came for the One X, everyone, including me, were obviously excited. But over the past week or so, there are now just too many CM9 ROMs and a few AOKP ROMs as well.
According to my short research, there are at the moment 4 CyanogenMod 9 ROMs for the HTC One X, all of them being unofficial. I really appreciate what the people are doing, but the thing is, that not only are us flashers confused, but if the Devs worked together, all the bugs and kinks can be ironed out much much faster and easily.
There are 4 CyanogenMod 9 ROMs (in chronological order):
1) Interpresentation's CM9
2) Owain94's Domination CM9
3) TripNRaVeR's CM9
4) tbalden's CM9
Also, there are two AOKP ROMs:
1) nycbjr's AOKP
2) the|gamer's AOKP
Wouldn't it be better for us if there was one AOKP ROM and maybe 1 or 2 CM9 ROMs? What if these devs worked together? And produced one complete functional ROM instead of many? It would also be better for us flashers, won't it?
Hit thanks if you are in support.
@Mods, I'd really appreciate it if you let this post stay in the Development section as those are the audience I target with this.
I'd really appreciate it, just doing what I think is right
Cheers,
-theDroidfanatic
That's because many of them want to add special features, others prefere "stock" CM9, Slim made a CM9 "AOKPized", with light files and great optimizations. That's the reason why we won't have only 1 or 2 AOSP roms, devs don't want to work together...
Check my comparison thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709962
Not all devs are "group" person
Some like to work alone
Some doesn't want to share their work
Some doesn't want to share their tweaks/customizations
.
.
.
You'll never have unified group of devs?..
Why didn't you ask for sense devs to group?
I like bigger choice of devs/roms
Sent from my HTC One X
I see your point for posting the thread in the dev section, however, this doesn't make it the right place
So moved to general.
@Topic: Of course it would be better if everyone was working on one single build.
But due to the nature of humans and their egos, this won't happen.
So just enjoy the little differences between the builds and wait until someone fixed the errors and the rest can apply these fixes too.
It's slow but steady

"Fully compiled from aosp source"...

Can somebody englighten me why the aosp rom devs say that they write the code for their rom from zero and then as we can see all the aosp roms are almost 100% identical and even their bugs are identical? Wouldnt one expect these roms to have different bugs since the devs claim that they write their own code?
ROMs that are compiled from source just means they were compiled using Google's source code, that doesn't mean they don't integrate other people's work, or "cherry picking" as CM calls it. It comes down to why re-code something that's already been made? Most things have already been made, and the few that haven't are either too hard or there's not much interest.
I'm sure most devs do have their own tweaks and whatnot, but not everything in a ROM has been made by them and a lot of stuff is borrowed or shared.
From build.prop tweaks to smali edits, to even simple framework tweaks, this is what devs could be talking about, nothing cosmetic that can be seen or merely felt, but that doesn't mean it's not there.
A Google search will tell you what it takes and what it is to compile a ROM from source. That shoulld enlighten you to these mysteries.

Yeah but whenever they talki g about compiling from source instead of porting they sound likr showing off as if they invented the whole code themselves. To me they all seem the same, the only difference is the way they organize the order of the menus in the settings. One bug that is common for all aosp for example is alarm clock that has been there for months, or camera problems that existed in the past. I just wanted to make this clear cuz it seems like this compiled from aosp has become exageratted way of showing off and people new to android feel like wow omg what impressing things this or that dev has done, while in fact only very few devs are the ones that deserve the credit for first "inventing" smthing/"fixing" bug and the rest simple get it from their source tree.

Unfortunately, I do agree with what you're saying, but in a way, the devs aren't lying. Most devs do indeed compile from source instead of using someone's base.
This phone didn't get as many devs as I expected it to.
A lot of real amazing devs are on other devices, it would be great if we could get one or two devs in here. Now I'm not taking any credit away from our devs, but it's nice when devs have a team like Hawk and Roman, Team Whiskey, man I loved their ROMs, everything seems to progress faster and have a lot more options. Take CodenameAndroid for example, that's a team of devs.

Eh... time to get lg nexus maybe lol
While some may be trying to look good or appear smart or whatever like you're saying, I think the majority do not have these sort of intentions.
I can say that if I were to release a rom that I compiled from source, I would put that in the op. Not to brag or anything like that, but just to inform. If I used someone elses as a base, I would mention it just the same.
If I were to compile from source, but not tell people I did, how long would it take for someone to ask where the base is from? To me its just another info point for the rom, and personally, I like to know where a dev got their base.
Also, as I understand it, while the mods and tweaks may or may not be their own, they most likely implement their changes before compiling, so the source will be different than original. Of course the vast majority of code will not be written/invented by them. Its Android source code. Open Source!
Maybe ive got it completely wrong, but to me, its just never been a big deal. I honestly never even thought about it in this context until this thread. (I don't use aokp or cm very much, so maybe that's why)
I know that you are right about some people, i just dont think they are in a majority here. Just thought id share my thoughts! Not sayin anyone else who's posted here is wrong. Its just my opinion based on how I understand it.

hi,
I'll chime in if you guys don't mind..
All roms 4.3 for sprint that was built by me was just showing some love to sprint users.. I wanted to get the ball rolling for sprint and eventually hopefully someone could continue and with my help they would be off to a rolling start already.. I don't own a sprint g2. I'm a Canadian g2.. I usually don't like building variants that I cannot personally test myself..
I felt is is unfair while everyone owns such a beautiful phone and not able to have it custom while other variants of the exact same phone are able to. So I tried my best to do what I could while I had the time to..
All 4.3 roms I posted for testing will not be supported by me nor will I take responsibility for any problems it may cause..
I will only support anything current that I personally post myself.. anyone is more than welcome to try anything I have released previously, cause if I didn't ok that I would remove the file myself.
I'm a member of PA and all my releases with 4.4 will be built from PA sources. PA is starting fresh so the builds are basically same as stock aosp google releases except with the few minor additions. PA is reworking fresh and will bring in all the known pa features as time passes. it won't be officially support until I post an official thread. but right now I have alpha test builds out. I hate having temporary download links all over the place..
but as for sprint, I felt you guys needed some loving too since I don't see much support at this time.. as for other roms and other official roms, I don't know if the devs will support this variant or not.. it helps to have a dev that has the same variant.. I guess the Canadian g2 ppl will be lucky since I use a Canadian g2
I will try my best to support what I can with the amount of time I have.. having a full time job and building so many variants is very time consuming.
On another note. if someone wanted to post a link for any testing it's best that it should of been posted in the General Section since this forum is for development purposes..
all aside. if you guys want I have an alpha test build of PA 4.0 kk4.4 for the sprint ls980. you can find the rom here.
links can change at any given time.. I will work some more at fixing some bugs but this is what I have to offer for now.. I hope u guys enjoy.thanks. it's best you follow my thread in the original dev forum until I have a formal thread posted with full support but as for now this is what you get till I have more info.

If any Sprint dev was interested in continuing your work on Carbon or PA ROM, should they contact you via PM for the source? I guess there could be some Sprint devs out there interested in making these type of ROMs but don't know where they can get the source to build from it.

I don't think anyone will be working on 4.3 anymore... I will most like support sprint officially with PA if have enough time to manage all the erors.. it seems more simple with the other variants since they are gsm and have mostly all things in common..
we are in the process of all migrations and merging of 4.4. If I don't build officially for sprint I'll make sure to have all the sources on PA's legacy github https://github.com/AOSPA-legacy and anyone that wants to build for you guys would have all the sources they would need.. there is 2 branchs or gits for PA now. the AOSPA which is PURE AOSP and PA uses for Nexus supported devices and now AOSPA-legacy which is for all supported non nexus devices we support. I will try my best.. remember im 1 man.. the team has so many devices and so many things on the go. If I had a whole team of devs working on this with me , it would be much more simple .. I am working with a few ppl and am helping another dev bringup 4.4 for Omni (hopefully if u guys can convince him, he'll build for sprint too )
it's still so early and knowing that g2 has kk. im sure more devs will jump on.. just a little patience
I'll do what I can for you Sprint guys.. but you have to bare with me. I'm only one guy like I said.. I'll keep you guys updated tho.. for all other info you can always go on irc on freenode.org in #lg-g2 . I may not always be online.. and please.. let's keep those PM msg flooding to a minimal. I've been flooded a lot lately and I don't have the time to visit every thread and every PM. I have a hard time enough keeping up on my own thread.

Porting over MIUI for the LG?

I posted this question a while back and many views but no response. So I'm posting it here hoping to get a response. I was wondering if MIUI will be ported on this phone. I would love to see it on this phone. Any news?
Wrong section. Goes in the Q&A.
Some one went derp
Before any ports we need a full fledged functioning aosp build, once we have that I don't see why a port wouldn't be out of the question. This is just MHO but we don't really need new builds of different versions based off the same broken source. $droyd$ did great ground work on his slim version but till he or others can fix what's broken it seems any new variants have the same issues.
There is already a build out there but its DATA is not working, it is however built for the F400K model.

That would depend if its a private port or if it is a "offical" miui by xaiomi.
as they tend to do "patchrom" builds, to have the benefit of LG drivers and of the camera etc...
there is no disputing the fact that original manufacturers drivers and firmware for camera and sound etc.. is better on offical roms than CM ports.

MIUI is not always AOSP based. I've used MIUI builds on my HTC OneXL that were Sense based and I've seen them like that on other HTC devices as well. Looks and feels just like AOSP MIUI. Not sure if something like that is possible for other manufacturers though.

Don't remember if it was official but I know it's not a skin or anything. It's full fledged MIUI just using a Sense base. One sec and I'll find the link for the thread.
Here's the link to one of the ones I used on my One XL. I think there was at least one other and I know I've seen it on other HTC devices as well. It would be awesome if something like this could work with the LG firmware.

Yeah, i dont think this is an official build. It looks like OP got MIUI to work with sense & built a rom. Anyways, although MIUI is not my cup of tea (AOKP man myself) it looks pretty awesome. :good:
Hopefully we'll see some other builds in the near future. Im sick of LGs UI & im willing to try anything else.
