Hello forum,
As a new Desire HD user I flashed the Android Revolution HD 2.0.7 by mike1986 a few weeks ago. First big thanks to him for such a clean, stable ROM. However now that I'm about to try flashing the newer 2.0.15 a few questions arise.
In order to flash 2.0.7 I followed the instructions to get ROOT through Visionary+, gained radio S-OFF AND ENG S-OFF. But now in order to flash 2.0.15, do I have to redo both the S-OFF process? (I think I know the 2.0.7 system is rooted by default...) If so, since the build number of HTC Sense Andro Revo 2.0.7 is based on is 1.72, do I need the downgrade operation first?
Thanks heaps.
No, you can just flash 2.0.15 from recovery as you are already rooted and S-off
Once you're S-Off'd there's no going back I don't think so you'll be fine

It is possible to go back and get s-on by running a ruu (rom update utility).

Are you serious?
what u mean
It doesn't matter, which rom you are using. I used the CD-method to S-Off my Desire, but I think it should also work using vmware.
You can't prevent alpharev from changing your splash screen, but there are tools in this forum, which allow you to change it to whatever you want afterwards.

You can change the splash screen with Android Flasher - It can be found in the Developement sub-forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
If you need a stock ROM, then you can either flash the RUU (You lose Root, S-Off) or flash a pre-rooted stock ROM (can be found in the Developement sub-forum).
S-Off via VMWare can be done, but if you are stuck use the USB or CD method instead (people reported issues with VMWare).
dont try to do S-OFF unless you are running stock rooted ROM
best is to run a RUU, then root, then go s-off
if you try to S-OFF while on a2sd+ or data2xxx rom, procedure will fail, and it might brick your phone (it fails after going past STEP3 - DONT UNPLUG YOUR P_HONE OR U WILL BRICK IT) but i unplugged it, and was ok, then RUU and again whole thing worked
I had problems with s-off on my stock sense rom (rooted).
I made a goldcard, rooted, then alpharev would not recognise my device.
Soon as I switched to rooted aosp rom (oxygen) it was fine!

Just flash stock rooted froyo, done the trick for me.
OP, just search for how to s-off, there are answers to all you questions available. I know that, as i only recently s-offed myself.
So, can i do this?
1. do nandroid backup
2. use froyo asia wwe ruu(im from singapore)
3. root with unrevoked
4. s-off with vmware
5. restore
But err, one question, if i was damn unlucky and brick my device, can i just use the RUU and restore it back?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069600
Just follow the guide on the thread. If you brick your device, there is no way back. That's why its called brick. There are semi bricks, which can be fixed.

hi my HTC Desire says PVT1 S-OFF already
this make any difference between AlphaRev S-off?? or i need to go through this method also??
Just install a rom without A2SD (like Leedroid 2.4.1 no-A2SD or Teppic's rom) and then you can S-OFF your desire. I advice you to write the .img on a cd and then boot on this, you won't encounter any issue.
Afterwards you can apply a new splash on your Desire, like the stock one (which is available on alpharev website).

pvt-4 desires try to activate bluetooth after alpharev 1.8 if it doesnt activate pm me
Hello,
Last night I spent hours to install LeeDrOiD V3.0.6-R2 GB on a HTC Desire: it went in a bootloop probably because the phone is S-ON and (my mistake) I had no backup. I was too confident having flashed 100 of times my galaxy s and my galaxy tab without any problem. But I'm a beginner on HTC Desire.
So finally it worked and I have now the LeeDroiD GB rom, but I really suffered until 4 am.
But the phone is still S-ON and to prevent similar issues next time I want to have it S-OFF.
Is it true that Alpharev solution doesn't work with GB?
If yes, what should I do?
Thanks for helping me.
Best thing is to go back to stock, root again and then s-off and then flash a GB Sense ROM

Hello Eddy,
What a quick reply! THANKS.
I thought about going back to stock, you convinced me.
Do you think this one could be ok: RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
Is there anything I should know before installing it?
no, don't go back to stock. You need a rooted rom, so I recommend using a close-to-stock but rooted Rom. So don't use the ruu (otherwise you need to reroot with unrevoked first, then S-off with alpharev) but flash a stock rooted rom in recovery.
There is a Everything-about-Desire-thread in Development section and you can download the correct rooted rom in there.
Actually any rooted Froyo-Rom without D2SD (!) should work (for example Leedroid 2.x without A2SD did work well for me) but I'd still use a hackfree rom.
Has anyone S-OFFd with Revolutionary yet?
I just did my phone which worked fine, but it bombed out when i said 'yes' to download recovery image.
I did my phone and another with AlpharevX which I'm pretty sure was almost exactly the same thing, but with fewer supported handsets.
S-OFF'd day of released without any hiccups, I opted out of flashing CWM.
quick question as i don't want to start a new thread.
phone is now rooted and has cwm 3.0.0.5, does it need to be flashed back to stock in order to run revolutionary?
hboot is 093 which is required for the desire if i remember correctly

You just need stock rooted rom (no a2sd, d2ext)
Yeah I also just used revolutionary, works great and gave me no fuss.
Also s-off'edwith revolutionary, was done in less than a minute.
(it was so fast i had to check twice before i was certain it was s-off )
already had a recovery so i skipped that one.
What's the best thing to do if your device has an older HBOOT? I'm at 0.75 I think! Should I use AlphaRev, or upgrade to a more recent RUU to update the HBOOT?
Currently I'm S-OFF using Alpharev 1.8. What is the advantage of Revolutionary on the Desire? Support for the GB update?
you dont have to s-off again with revolutionary when you are already s-off.
Im running an unbranded, unlocked desire with Froyo currently. Its rooted using unrevoked.
I want to flash to Insertcoin latest but got some confusion from reading the docs.
Do i need to run "revolutionary" to turn my current S-ON desire into S-OFF or will it install just fine without changing?
If so, will it work with the existing revoked/cm/root mod or not or do i have to remove that first?
Once im on the ROM how easy is it to go back to stock 2.2 ? Can i just take a nandroid backup from CM recovery and then restore that or will that not work?
Help with the above is appreciated, especially if i need to be S-OFF or not to install!
All your questions can be answered by using the search.
S-OFF is not required to flash other ROM (as long as ROM has a Stock hboot version). Suggest reading this excellent FAQ (courtesy RootSU):

Hi, I've been having some problems with my Htc Desire (Running Hboot 0.80, rooted & CM7). A couple of months ago Super User needed an update and required S-off. I didn't feel like doing that at the time, but after a while and a updated clockworkmod the phone locks up when i try to backup my current Rom.
So now I'm considering S-offing my phone and I was just wondering if i can use alpharev on my current Hboot considering that i'm running CM 7.03? '
Most guides use some kind of stock-Rom so i just wanted to check in advance rather then being sorry later.
It's just a matter of having a non A2SD/D2SD ROM, so it's safer to return to a stock ROM (You should have made a backup of it after rooting), you can try it on CM and you never know it might work.

Sure, I've got an old Leedroid and Htc original 2.2 so I'll pop the 2.2 back on and after the S-off is completed I can simply restore a older CM7 backup? It's a shame that the Super user needed S-off.

yeah just do that, I don't see why it needs S-OFF though :s Either way it's better to have it than not
