There was an issue using stock 2.1 with touchwiz having to be reset as the default home screen, when hitting "home" shortcut, if the phone had too many Apps open at once. That was no big deal. Now on EB13 with touchwiz 2.2. 1, it force closes and becomes unusable. I like touchwiz and figured out that if I don't open the keyboard while home and don't shortcut home from multiple open apps... I can use it. I would like to upgrade touchwiz, can we do that without rooting? Any other suggestions to fix are welcome.

I'm debating going to launcher pro but was wondering a little something.
If I just change my default launcher to launcher pro, is sense then disabled or do I have to remove all the sense widgets from my current sense setup first??
I'd like to leave my setup as is and change over to launcher pro, in case i decide to go back to sense.
Thanks all!!
I haven't used Launcher Pro, but have gotten quite familiar with ADW.Launcher. In my experience, you don't have to do anything to Sense when you start using an alternate launcher. If you clear the defaults for your alternate launcher, you can pop right back into Sense and still have everything just the way you left it.
well i was wondering if i set LP as default, can i delete htc sense from phone? like the dock
You don't have to do anything with Sense. You can switch back and forth between the two (download Home Switcher in the market to easily switch back and forth). The only thing is Sense widgets only work with Sense (you can't add the Friendstream widget to one of your screens when using Launcherpro). The dock you see with Sense is different than the dock in Launcherpro.
Yeah, used to go from one to the other when I first started dealing with the different launchers. Can still have your regular "Sense" setup and switch between your "ADW" launcher (or even LPro for that matter). Pretty handy and quick. Just hit the home button when not checked as default. If you need that home button to display all screens at once, there are swipe functions for that.

If you are rooted you can delete /system/app/rosie.apk, but it wouldn't really provide any benefit. It doesn't start automatically and take up ram or anything.
Defaults wiped
I have tried this on a couple roms so far, same problem.
I have Fresh Evo running currently, with Launcher Pro as my choice for daily use.
Before it was Baked Snack.
Every time I reboot, or change battery, etc, I have to go through the default choice again. It won't save. I've checked through applications and once they're set all looks fine. I do know how to set them that way as well.
But once the phone has been cycled, I have to give the choice again at start and when exiting gmail or the first app I exit.
Anyone else know of this? Fix? Ideas?
I don't think it's a rom issue, which would be a lot easier to get an answer for.
Thanks.
I've experienced sluggish performance and weird quirks with LauncherPro on the G2, so I decided to switch to Zeam Launcher. I like it quite a bit: the swipe gestures and overall lightness of the launcher are great. The only problem is that I REALLY miss the widgets that LauncherPro provided me with.
1) Has anyone experienced issues with LauncherPro? I noticed that switching between landscape and portrait, as well as having the phone wake on keyboard open, are very sluggish, even with high clocks.
2) Are there any options for getting the standalone widgets for use elsewhere? Maybe completely separate alternates with the same look and feel? Calendar, Messaging, and Facebook are the ones I used.

I haven't notice any problem with LPP. I've ran it on my N1 and now my G2.
i heard the update causes those crashes so i didnt update and im still sailing smooth waters
+1, I prefer using ADW.Launcher, but LPP's widgets are really nice. I was wondering if there is any decent alternative to LPP's Friends and Agenda widgets.
My LPP has always had suttle, little hiccups now and again but they did get more frequent since the ota. I really only got LPP to hold me over until root and custom roms so I never really cared.
I really can't handle the look of stock android and LPP allowed me to hide the white status bar. I have become very fond of the dock however and don't know that I could give that up.

Yes. from wheni first got the g2, and even my replacement, the stock UI is 10x smoother than launcherpro
stock launcher is smoother...agreed.
After using LauncherPro for about two weeks, I came back to the stock launcher and immediately fell for it again. I did the same thing with the web browser. You can never go wrong with Stock.

Not sure about you guys, but LuncherPro is smooth as a butter for me - way better than stock (even though you stock ain't bad either).
I have noticed the same thing. Especially switching from landscape to portrait, or vice-versa.
And my widgets kept freezing. The way I fixed this is by turning off the keep in memory option. I forgot I had that set on my Mytouch 3g, and carried my preferences over.
As for finding widgets that are similar, the closest I have come would be the Sense UI ROMs. After all, that is what the LP Plus widgets are based on.
didn't read every post so not sure if it was mentioned but if you want widgets "like" LP's try the pure line. Has messenger, music, calendars and contacts. the messenger app does FB and Twitter as well. all themeable goes well with beautiful widgets home weather.
I have a lag issue with my device and its starting to drive me crazy. Lol.. But anyway when I'm using the touchwiz launcher and drop down the notification drawer while on the home screen the animation is really choppy and laggy. But as soon as I open an app like gmail or even settings menu the choppiness is gone. The home screen lag will go away if I use another launcher as well like launcher pro or go launcher. But I prefer the twlauncher.
Another strange thing is the twlauncher has no home screen lag when using cm7 so I know the device is capable. Just was wondering if anyone else has this issue or found a way around it, thanks!
Just wanted to note that this didn't occur on my epic touch 4g

Just root the device and flash a rom, I think Samsung didn't spend enough time optimizing the Snapdragon with the Touchwiz skin.
I have a stock, non-rooted G2, running GB 2.3.4, which I love. The only complaint I have is that the home screen often takes a while to refresh when coming back from another app, or even when turning on.
I'm using the stock launcher, I have seven screens, and 8 or 9 widgets that need to refresh. It doesn't seem to matter whether I've recently cleared my cache or not, or whether I have animations on or not.
Similar threads from other phones suggest there may be settings somewhere to improve this performance, although I probably don't have that app loaded... Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...
You're close to maxed out on home screens and widgets so it's expected to have a lag when coming out of an app. The stock launcher *may* have some tweaks (it's been a while since I've used it) but most third party launchers have a "keep home screen in memory" setting which speeds up coming out of an app and back to the launcher.
Really though, I'd suggest trying to slim things down a bit. I know it's fun and all to have widgets for everything and apps sorted into home screens but there comes a point where it becomes faster to do things "the old fashioned way" than to have widgets and screens lagging to do it for you.
For example, I have three screens; my main one (clock/weather widget), my most used apps (phone, mail, messages, voicemail) and my camera/video camera, another screen for social apps and another for note apps and daily utilities. I also hide all the apps I don't actually lauch manually (URL shorteners and other "share to" type apps).

I flashed 5.1 and it's kind of OK (although a few app stopped errors happen) but the home button only works from the task switcher screen. It doesn't work from any app. Tried with Launcher, tried with Nova Launcher. Also, setting Home in Nova Launcher to an app doesn't launch that app. Something eats my home clicks. But what? I do not use a custom keyboard.

You should probably wipe everything and do a fresh install of the latest factory image. From the force closes, it sounds like you flashed all all positions besides data... Or you're having issues with the touchscreen drivers, which is a widely known issue on flo... Look around in the general section, there are about four threads with good information annoy the touchscreen if that's your issue. You could also collect a logcat of the touch fail, limit the output so it's easy to find the error and determine the source of your issue... Just some ideas.
