Hi, for the last two weeks i have been frustrated with my battery draining really fast, I have changed roms 3-4 times and kernels multiple times. I need some pointers on what could be wrong. On battery monitor, it shows barely and positives and if they are positive they are high (300+) I don't know what to do. I am currently on 0003, pri 1.77, Mikfroyo v4.5 with net 4.3 bfs havs more. Thanks
Have you tried SetCPU that helped me a lot

charge phone until light turn green. unplug, wait till led goes out. plug back in, wait until green. turn your phone off. wait until LED turns green. unplug, wait for LED to go out, plug back in, wait for LED to turn green, rinse and repeat 10 times.

1d 9h 9m 55s since last unplugged. With about 40% remaining. No - I'm not lying.
That is, of course, with only about 45mins of talking but that is also with a constant twitter connection as well as Exchange Active Sync (microsoft push) constantly bringing me about 120 emails per day on average.
I don't know if my battery life is common (although I gather not) but I can tell you this:
-my phone has a totally stock ROM, but is rooted with many bloat progs removed.
-I disabled or removed all location-aware progs
-I pretty much never use bluetooth so its always off
-I do occasionally use WiFi so thats maybe on 10% of the time
-I *never* put the phone on the charger until it has literally shut itself off dead. I then charge to 100% and repeat. I'm guessing this is the biggest factor.
This is just what works for me.

My battery life has always been pretty sh**ty even b4 all this phone hacking and crazy apps..
Currently it takes me aroune 10 to 15 mins to drop to 90%... but that maybe just a bad batt app reading..
nevertheless I cant go a whole day without charging once or twice...
I carry my charger with me everywhere.
How people get 3 days with this phone is beyond me... Maybe its bcuz I love to use my phone mostly as an ipod.
from 6 am to 2 pm still above 90. (in school, airplane) actually sitting at 67 right now and unplugged at 530 am.
OMG.... Teach me your ways... What are you running? Any Custom rom? Do you like not use many widgets? Or is it simply cuz you barely touched your phone all day?.... lol even i did that just idle sitting it would probably be 1/2 batt in like 4-5 hours

no special batteries or rom. everything stock. my clock speeds are stock i just undervolt. 300/17,600/31,800/42. might not work for everyone but im not a power user and dont play many games. thats what the game boy is for after all
Me too having the same problem and I am on stock rom and indian firmware and battery sucks and motoversion is 2.59.0 have lots and of games n apps but I have only rooted the phone with superoneclick hope you people can provide a solution for getting a better backup and yes I have even tried calibrating the batter but no use at all still I get the same problem battery draining and drains completely within 9 to 10 hrs even after minimal usage!!!!

Same for me. Since Moto only shows 10% changes you have to let it charge a good hour before unplugging when you see it's at 100%. It will show at 100% when the charge gets to 95%, so you could be losing 5% charge right there. I'm using the 1% display app from another thread around here, and I only unplug it when that app shows 101% charge. As soon as I unplug it, it drops to 99%, but lasts from 99% to 90% for about 7 or 8 hours if I don't really play with it. My usual discharge is 1% an hour. The phone/battery is programmed to not overcharge, so even if you leave it charging for 24 hours, as soon as you unplug it, it will drop to 99% instantly.
U mean motocharge app?
It always stops at 100% for me, never goes over
one thing noticed today... uptime was 2days 10hours and something ...and i had 1% battery left on motocharge ...and it took me forever to discharge that last percent
I did full brightness, full volume on music that was playing, turned on wifi and BT and played angry birds meanwhile ...and it took me like 30minutes to burn down that last percent of the battery, so Im guessing it isnt calibrated right

No. This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930457
Sorry wrong link corrected.
battery life drains out pretty quickly... i'd say it drops below 90% after an hour or so. one example would be 9am-2pm with texting, whatsapp-ing and the occassionally surfing, and i'm down to 30-40% batt life.
i think the major draining app would be those that run data in the background, coz i was in japan recently (data turned off while roaming) and a full day 9am-12am and i was hovering around 70-8x%.

theres 2 main questions, are you using sbc or a wall charger and two, who makes the battery
and if its a non-seidio, some of them just plain suck. i've bought 4 different ones from ebay/amazon only one actually works well after calibration and many cycles of usage.

You need to condition your battery
I've been dealing with this for ever and I thin kI finally haqve a routine figured out that is getting me CM7 like battery life on a Sense ROM.
1st, I've had the Sedio 3500 for a few months, and like you, I was getting ridiculous drain, until I started sdoing some reading and experimenting.
Here's what I do.
First, off, I have GPS, WIFI and Data disable all the time, unless I need one of them, and then I turn off again when I'm done. I keep my screen off all the time, unless I'm using the phone. I also only use minimal widgets. Calender, Fany Widgets Weather and Forcast, Messages widget, the Beautiful toggle widget for silence and my MIUI Music player on 3 screens, using Rosie. The other 4 screens are just empty.
Second, as for the battery itself, charge the phone for about 8 hrs, and this is the HTC method, unplug it, turn it off, and charge it for another hour, while off.
Unplug it, turn it on for 2 minutes, then power down and plug it in for another hour.
Now, before powering I up, I do the Hoodoo-voodoo-like 10 time unplug thing.
Basically, unplug, light goes off. Plug it in, light is red, wait til it turns green, unplug it and do this 10 times.
Reboot to recovery, wipe battery stats, power up, all while plugged in, and once fully booted, unplug.
I did this today, using the new Koni 3, with Netarchy 4.3.2 SBC HAVS, and riding then used the phone pretty steadily to play Klondike, text, etc an an hour later was just dropping to 99%.
THAT is pretty good, compared to what it used to be like, when it would drop about 1 percentile per minute, even when it was in sleep mode.
Reconditioning is not going to work when you buy a crappy battery. Someone said voodo? You're kidding, right?
Please understand there is no regulation that prevents people from stating their cheap batteries on eBay are 9800mAh but only providing 1000.
I bought 1500mAh eBay batteries that are only 900mAh, verified with equipment.
Check www.batteryboss.org to see what I'm talking about.
Best thing to do? Buy a $1 battery wall charger, two OEM/non-generic htc batteries and carry in your wallet. I wouldn't be surprised if your 3500mAh battery actually packs less juice than the original battery. Oh and your phone is looking like a brick for nothing.
yeah this is why i asked, if you bought a very cheap extended battery, well its rating is different than what it is providing you with
I think I have battery problems solved; Just turn Data off when you're not using it. My phone has been off the charger since Friday night @ 6:30pm. Now it's Sunday @ 9:30am. That's 39 hours and I'm sitting at 63% and I've been texting, making calls, playing a few games, and anytime I need data, I just turn it back on til I'm done and then back off again. That's the only thing I'm doing different now, and before I made that little change, my battery was a good or bad as anyone else's

When I am home, I have WiFi enabled all the time, no 3G/4G. I heard WiFi is better(with good signal) for your battery than 3G enabled. Is this true? My battery lasts about 7-8 hrs of moderate-heavy usage.
Also, here's a thing with all of you trying to tweak your battery to get best performance. From my own experience, I am never a step or two away from a charger be it while I'm on my computer at work, at home or in the car. So what good is it to have the phone out of the charger for days?
I understand WiFI is better, too, from what I've read.
Also, if I can find it, I found a thread on androidfrums from htc that recommends you let your battery drain to below 50% before charging it.
Like you, I have chargers all over, so it's not a big deal, but to be at where I am now, with this experiment on turning data off is simply amazing to me.

That is definitely a huge performance improvement but I wonder what's happening with all your apps that need the data sync in the background. I have apps like Pulse, Facebook, K9, Handcent, etc that update every couple of hours or have "push" enabled. What is the trick to allow 3g, 4g, wifi to be enabled automatically only when sync is required and then disabled?
Good question.
All I use is the weather bug and Fany Widgets weather, ad far as widgets that need updating. I think, once they try to update and can't connect, they "freeze" for lack of a better word, until you reconnect and manually update.
It's a little bit of a pain, but for this kind've battery life, I'm not gonna complain
I think what would work is an app that puts the phone in "Airplane Mode" (bad Moment memories ), but allows the calls to come thru. This way there's absolutely no Internet traffic but your Evo is still usable as a phone.
That's probably, basically what I'm doing, but like you, coming from the Moment, Airplane Mode is a bad word....
anyone come up with a list to enable/disable to improve battery?
I think the battery is already pretty phenomenal.

Yes it is always posted that high. I have also already tried the suggestion of completely draining the battery and charging to 100% twice now. Doesn't seem to help. This is not my first android phone so I have tried all the typical turn stuff off. I started with the hero and then went to the evo. Then jumped to verizon for thunderbold and now back on sprint for this phone obviously. So far this is the worst battery life I have had yet. Seeing what you guys are getting though gives me hope.
I have tried using spareparts to get more battery information but get a force close when trying to do that.
Man I know that battery results range pretty wildly, but I'm averaging 10% loss per 2 hours.
On launch day I was on it from about 3:30pm until about 10pm and only lost about 40%. And when I say on it, I bet the screen on time was 95% of that time.
So far, the battery life is one of my favorite things about this phone. First time I've felt comfortable enough to run a live wallpaper.

You are lucky then, If i use the phone I will loose 40% in about 2 hours no problem. Also if you are loosing about 5% an hour that will only give you about 20 hours total before your dead. I see people reporting they are getting over a day. Just don't see how. Are they just not using their phone at all.

You SHOULD always when you get a new battery fully Drain it and then fully charge the battery with the device OFF. Thats what I did with my phone. I kept using it once I got it, it lasted around 5 hours before the phone shut off during a phone call. then when I plugged it in to charge, I plugged it in and did not turn it on and waited till it fully charged with the Blue Light. I dont know about the normal thing now adays with lithium ion batteries but you were always warned in the packaging to let your battery fully cyle its first cycle with no use at all. The cells in the batteries have a memory type of design and if you dont fully charge the battery you can prevent it from knowing its full capacity.
Now I dont know if this is true anymore with the new battery production of the manufacturers now may power cycle the batteries before they seal the whole package so the customers dont have to do it. Maybe why when you get your device the battery is around 50% now like mine came. I remember older devices you could not use your device until you fully charged the battery the first time.
About Screen Brightness, I learned from a Epic user that the best way to conserve battry usage was to always keep your Screen Brightness at 10% (Gotta love the Touchwiz Brightness Changing with the Top Notification bar, this device will not show the slider bar like Touchwiz 3.0 on the Epic but IT STILL WORKS!!!!). I have noticed that at the lowest brightness setting I can still see everything vividly enough to work with it and im getting over 24 hours with moderate normal usage (like only 1-3 5-10 minute phone calls, surfing the net, surfing for new apps) This is my first android phone. I also have had 4G turned off and Wifi off all this time as I have no way to access those right now. I also have GPS turned off because I havent needed to use it yet. I pretty much have everything but Basic needs turned on besides all the Factory default presets. I also Turned my screen mode to DYNAMIC, which seems to show more vivid colors like I use on my Samsung TV for my computer usage.
Now I turned off Live wallpaper and im using one of the preinstall basic Grey ones (the one with the asfault looking spot light) (I have been trying to hit the crazy benchmarks people are getting trying to find out why I am not getting the 93+mflops mine keeps hitting 80's) So I dont know what heavy usage is doing to my phone.
but then again this is only under 48 hours of ownage. My first full night off the charger was 1 day and 3hours before it said I was 5% battery life and I plugged it in.
Hello all, I hope all is well! I have a huge problem... I've been running my evo on the boost network for the last two months and have been getting no more than 4 hours of battery use from every rom I use. I even tried the old destroyer rom and a number of different kernals. Im in need of help as soon as possible!!
How about a little more info. What battery are you using? How old is it? Have u checked to see what is running? Did this start as soon as you switched networks?
Im using the stock battery and its only about 3 months old... It was a claim from asurion. It started happening soon as I switched networks. While on sprint I could easily get a day 1/2 usage.

It could have something to do with your radios, or just be a random coincidence with something else that's causing the drain. I'm not familiar with flashing to Boost at all, so I don't know if you have a different set of radios, PRI/NV, etc. You could try flashing a different radio, newer or older.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
Just updated to the latest radios and battery still sucks!
I have Boost too.
The battery drains quicker with low or no signal.
download Spare Parts and check Partial Wake Usage, this will tell you if an app or apps are causing this.
Well I GUESS THIS IS DEAD...
Be sure to calibrate your battery whenever you flash a new ROM to optimize battery life. I prefer to calibrate using this method:
1) While your phone is powered on, charge the battery until the LED turns green.
2) Unplug the phone from the charger and wait until the LED turns off.
3) Now power off your phone.
4) When the phone is off, plug the charger into the phone and charge it until the LED turns green.
5) With the phone still off, unplug the charger and wait until the LED turns off.
6) Now power on the phone.
7) Wait until the phone is booted completely and then power off the phone again.
8) When the phone is off again plug the charger into your phone and charge it until the LED turns green.
9) Now boot your phone into recovery mode and navigate to the "Advanced" option using the volume up and down keys and then choose the option "Wipe Battery Stats."
10) Now reboot your phone and use it normally. You should notice improved battery life.

Wiping battery stats is actually been found to be ineffective/cause more harm than good the best way to actually "calibrate" the battery is to backup your rom flash to aosp or froyo with an sbc kernel let your phone drain til it powers off boot it back up and let it shut off again usually only takes a few mins sometimes it wont power on again, plug in charger wait til red led stops blinking turn the phone on and charge it to 100 uninterupted and leave it plugged in for 15-30 mins at 100% then nandroid back to your back up do this once a month or find an aosp setup u like and stick with it, the myth of sbc damaging li ion batteries is just that a myth newer phones have trickle charging kernels stock now such as the rezound et4g and a few others that i dont remember off the top of my head

Well, everyone has their own opinions. For me, I prefer the method I posted over the app for battery calibration, because I get better results. Also, I've never heard of any negative side-effects from wiping battery stats, but feel free to do what you wish.

Monday and Tuesday I stayed in New Orleans Louisiana. I typically had 5 bars as far as signal goes.. While there I didn't have to charge the phone at all for 2 days with heavy usage might I add. The minute I made it back to my small town, the battery started to drain incredibly fast! So I've come to the conclusion that it is the poor service that drains the battery. With that being said, I would like to thank you all for your input!
I've had this phone for about a month. Started off on stock, and rooted it and flashed different ROMs and kernels. I never really got good battery life with any ROM. Typically I would get around 7 to 10 hours of moderate usage.
I fully went back to stock firmware and kernel using ODIN, to flash 2.3.6. I rooted it and removed some bloatware apps. BUT, the battery life seems so bad.. it's been 2 days, I've done calibration 2 or 3 times.
Leaving my phone idle, in one spot, I lose about 4-5% an hour. 4G Data on, wifi off, 2/4 bars of signal, sync on (only gmail, google docs, contacts, calendar).
But today, I think it got worse, as shown here: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f380/wordk4/SC20120319-230121.png
Graph: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f380/wordk4/SC20120319-230126.png
Note: the data icon on top shows that it's on 3G, because I moved out of good signal area when I took the screenshots. The phone was idle in a spot with 4G getting 3-5mbps.
What's wrong with this? The phone is a month old, so I don't think it's a battery problem. I've calibrated 2-3 times since I went back to stock.
Also, don't recommend me to use Juice Defender. I use Google Voice to call and text, so I need data on all the time. And I know this phone can last over a day with data on (my friend has the same phone and it has lasted 2 days on one charge, completely stock firmware).
ALSO, when I press "Android System" on the battery history, here's a list of what it shows:

Actually that would be more of light/medium. Checking facebook every 30mins, a few texts now and then, playing a game for 30 minutes, listening to music for an hour, a call or two about 2mins each, a few instant messages on facebook, GPS use for 5 minutes, and idle for about 5 hours. Brightness at 50% or below. All on data connection, no wifi.

I know, but overall the time the display is on is 1-2 hours.. I know other people have been getting 16+ hours, 4 being with display on. With 4G data on.

I see easily over 12 hours on a charge with my phone, and i use it heavily... 2 to 3 hours of phone time (at the least) wifi tether here and then, a lot of facebook iming and checking. Reading....
Something i noticed though. I got the phone in October or so, and the battery life started off pretty bad. I didnt do anything special, i figured it would be bad with such a massive screen. Over time though the battery improved, and now im seeing wonderful battery life. I usually unplug it at about 6:30 or so in the morning when i head to work, and yesterday at 10-something is when it started *****ing it had low battery life.
Moral of the story? Be patient, itll get better as time goes by.

Your battery looks fine. Playing games rapes the battery. Also 4g rapes the battery.
There are ways to improve the battery but like you said... You need to use all of these features.
Go get a spare oem battery or a reputable extended battery.

Im at 52% right now, 34% display, time on 3 hours 14 minutes, and sitting at 1d 1h 39m on battery. Light usage.
Something is definitely draining your battery. As you can see your phone is awake when the screen isn't even on. It's just likely an app you downloaded or something in the background. good luck narrowing it down

Just right now i'm on a bus and lost 5% in less than 10 minutes. Listening to music. All i did was send five texts, check Facebook for a minute and read the posts on this thread. That doesn't seem normal at all. 4G on, sync on.

You give me some hope. I recently ordered an Anker 2050mAh battery for this, hopefully that will help in the meanwhile.

2050mAh wouldn't get you to much more out of thr battery..
Only 200mAh over stock, hows this supposed to help if you have a sleep mode issue or app issue?
Bringz me back to my first statement.
Your kernel is NOT allowing deep sleep mode for whatever reason, your best bet would be make a backup
Delete data/factory reset and try it over a day.. if it works good, its an app issue, still the same. It is undoubtedly the kernel. Why pay more for maybe an hour out of your phone?
Run some actual tests to clarify the issue first..
There. I said my peace
If you tried everything else try recalibrating the battery.
I have seen this happen most often when flashing new ROMs. Especially if you did not wipe your system, data, and caches before install it seems to encourage this.
To Recalibrate Battery (must have custom recovery like cwm):
Charge phone to FULL
(I highly recommend AC charger for this)
Reboot into recovery
Look for wipe battery stats (should be I'm advanced if not main menu)
Unplug phone and restart it
Now FULLY KILL THE BATTERY
(for faster results set mp3 or video on repeat and let her rip)
Fully charge one more time and done
(again I highly suggest AC adaptor)
Keep in mind if you set your CPU to Max frequency or leave a demanding app running and CPU is set to allow full usage ondemand or performance the phone will kill battery very quickly.
Same if you leave antenna on auto 4G and it is weak around you and phone is always searching it will go fast as well.

xFrozen: have you downloaded cpuspy to actually see if your phone is hitting deep sleep?

You sir, are a n00b, calibrating the battery is useless to this device and actually done automaticly.
So your post is useless and rather a waste of everyones time even reading. So thanks.
@above
Its obviously not hitting deep sleep, there's no way it can be and be draining the battery this quick.
@OP
As suggested above use cpuspy to check on the cpu when idle,
Sleep mode should kick in within 30sec to a minute.
Also chek my reply a few posts up and follow steps there..
Ignore Realn00b's post
Again:
@Realn00b
Please take the time to read up on batterystats.bin and find out what its for,
You don't need cwm to delete, just root explorer.. its in:
Data/system/batterystats.bin
Also, the entire basis of this is stupidity and was takin way out of context.
Batterystats is used to cache the active information of running applications (uptime/cpu usage, etc. NOT battery percents)
And should only be deleted under very very rare occasions (effecting above)
Your battery percent, is actually the mAh
Your system collects the information from a chip on the battery, among the information read, max mAh and current mAh.
The device then calculates from these the value we know as the percent.
Meaning, no device with a lithium ion battery stores charge information for the battery, making the entire purpose of your post for this, or ANY device not only useless, but also a little pathetic considering you would actually try to post a tip on something you are obviously completely uneducated about.
Please don't provide tips unless you are 100% sure of the situation and are actually educated on the material. Thanks

I originally purchased it for two reasons:
1. For long trips or for when I'll be gaming a lot
2. It had no reviews, so I figured I should buy it and test it. It's cheap anyways, $11.
Also, I'm on stock kernel. Everything stock + rooted.
I just did a re-flash with ODIN, so it has all the bloatware back on. I rooted and installed most of the main apps I use (facebook, aim, xda, google apps, games, basic things).
Currently I have sync on for Google contacts, calendar, and gmail. Facebook syncs with existing google contacts. T-Mobile contact sync off. Dropbox auto uploads camera photos on wifi only (I rarely take photos).
It's charging right now, at 50%. I might not have time to leave it idle today, so I could try in the morning if I have time.

Take a look at the safe to remove apps list aswell I'll see if I can find it on google pages for you. I definitely recommend
Deleting unndeeded applications and even replace stock with third party where applicable.
