theres 2 main questions, are you using sbc or a wall charger and two, who makes the battery
and if its a non-seidio, some of them just plain suck. i've bought 4 different ones from ebay/amazon only one actually works well after calibration and many cycles of usage.

You need to condition your battery
I've been dealing with this for ever and I thin kI finally haqve a routine figured out that is getting me CM7 like battery life on a Sense ROM.
1st, I've had the Sedio 3500 for a few months, and like you, I was getting ridiculous drain, until I started sdoing some reading and experimenting.
Here's what I do.
First, off, I have GPS, WIFI and Data disable all the time, unless I need one of them, and then I turn off again when I'm done. I keep my screen off all the time, unless I'm using the phone. I also only use minimal widgets. Calender, Fany Widgets Weather and Forcast, Messages widget, the Beautiful toggle widget for silence and my MIUI Music player on 3 screens, using Rosie. The other 4 screens are just empty.
Second, as for the battery itself, charge the phone for about 8 hrs, and this is the HTC method, unplug it, turn it off, and charge it for another hour, while off.
Unplug it, turn it on for 2 minutes, then power down and plug it in for another hour.
Now, before powering I up, I do the Hoodoo-voodoo-like 10 time unplug thing.
Basically, unplug, light goes off. Plug it in, light is red, wait til it turns green, unplug it and do this 10 times.
Reboot to recovery, wipe battery stats, power up, all while plugged in, and once fully booted, unplug.
I did this today, using the new Koni 3, with Netarchy 4.3.2 SBC HAVS, and riding then used the phone pretty steadily to play Klondike, text, etc an an hour later was just dropping to 99%.
THAT is pretty good, compared to what it used to be like, when it would drop about 1 percentile per minute, even when it was in sleep mode.
Reconditioning is not going to work when you buy a crappy battery. Someone said voodo? You're kidding, right?
Please understand there is no regulation that prevents people from stating their cheap batteries on eBay are 9800mAh but only providing 1000.
I bought 1500mAh eBay batteries that are only 900mAh, verified with equipment.
Check www.batteryboss.org to see what I'm talking about.
Best thing to do? Buy a $1 battery wall charger, two OEM/non-generic htc batteries and carry in your wallet. I wouldn't be surprised if your 3500mAh battery actually packs less juice than the original battery. Oh and your phone is looking like a brick for nothing.
yeah this is why i asked, if you bought a very cheap extended battery, well its rating is different than what it is providing you with
I think I have battery problems solved; Just turn Data off when you're not using it. My phone has been off the charger since Friday night @ 6:30pm. Now it's Sunday @ 9:30am. That's 39 hours and I'm sitting at 63% and I've been texting, making calls, playing a few games, and anytime I need data, I just turn it back on til I'm done and then back off again. That's the only thing I'm doing different now, and before I made that little change, my battery was a good or bad as anyone else's

When I am home, I have WiFi enabled all the time, no 3G/4G. I heard WiFi is better(with good signal) for your battery than 3G enabled. Is this true? My battery lasts about 7-8 hrs of moderate-heavy usage.
Also, here's a thing with all of you trying to tweak your battery to get best performance. From my own experience, I am never a step or two away from a charger be it while I'm on my computer at work, at home or in the car. So what good is it to have the phone out of the charger for days?
I understand WiFI is better, too, from what I've read.
Also, if I can find it, I found a thread on androidfrums from htc that recommends you let your battery drain to below 50% before charging it.
Like you, I have chargers all over, so it's not a big deal, but to be at where I am now, with this experiment on turning data off is simply amazing to me.

That is definitely a huge performance improvement but I wonder what's happening with all your apps that need the data sync in the background. I have apps like Pulse, Facebook, K9, Handcent, etc that update every couple of hours or have "push" enabled. What is the trick to allow 3g, 4g, wifi to be enabled automatically only when sync is required and then disabled?
Good question.
All I use is the weather bug and Fany Widgets weather, ad far as widgets that need updating. I think, once they try to update and can't connect, they "freeze" for lack of a better word, until you reconnect and manually update.
It's a little bit of a pain, but for this kind've battery life, I'm not gonna complain
I think what would work is an app that puts the phone in "Airplane Mode" (bad Moment memories ), but allows the calls to come thru. This way there's absolutely no Internet traffic but your Evo is still usable as a phone.
That's probably, basically what I'm doing, but like you, coming from the Moment, Airplane Mode is a bad word....

How long have you been trying? It can take up to about 5 different charges(cycles) before your battery gets conditioned. Pretty much using the full battery till its dead and repeating the process. Id say about a good 4 or 5 days before its fully conditioned. Are you also running the SBC kernel version of savage Zen. If you're trying to condition your battery I don't recommend changing kernels during this conditioning process, stick with the same one until you know the battery is ready.

i personally hate cm so many bugs and glitches the final sux however in my trying to give it a shot i tried the savagedzen 1.0.1-cfs-havs-wimax-gb-no-sbc and it behaved alot better and the two days i ran it battery life was really decent compared to what came with cm7
You could have gotten a bad battery.
OK, I have a Sedio 3500 and I had that problem at first too, so here's what I did.
1) Fully charge Battery.
2) Unplug, Turn on for 2 minutes, turn off.
3) Plug in for 1 hour
4) Do the 10 time plug in til light turns green, unplug til it turns green again, etc, etc.
5) Turn on the phone, and anytime you are not using data or wifi, etc, turn them off. I do this religiously, turning it on when i need to get on the browser, or hit up any apps that use data, then I turn it off again, qand use WiFi over Mobile Data anytime you can.
I left today at full charge at 1PM, and here at 2AM, I'm at 83% and I've been texting all day, using the camera at a concert I was at, uploading the pics to facebook via WiFi, etc, so it's not like I just left it in my pocket all night.
Hello all, I hope all is well! I have a huge problem... I've been running my evo on the boost network for the last two months and have been getting no more than 4 hours of battery use from every rom I use. I even tried the old destroyer rom and a number of different kernals. Im in need of help as soon as possible!!
How about a little more info. What battery are you using? How old is it? Have u checked to see what is running? Did this start as soon as you switched networks?
Im using the stock battery and its only about 3 months old... It was a claim from asurion. It started happening soon as I switched networks. While on sprint I could easily get a day 1/2 usage.

It could have something to do with your radios, or just be a random coincidence with something else that's causing the drain. I'm not familiar with flashing to Boost at all, so I don't know if you have a different set of radios, PRI/NV, etc. You could try flashing a different radio, newer or older.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
Just updated to the latest radios and battery still sucks!
I have Boost too.
The battery drains quicker with low or no signal.
download Spare Parts and check Partial Wake Usage, this will tell you if an app or apps are causing this.
Well I GUESS THIS IS DEAD...
Be sure to calibrate your battery whenever you flash a new ROM to optimize battery life. I prefer to calibrate using this method:
1) While your phone is powered on, charge the battery until the LED turns green.
2) Unplug the phone from the charger and wait until the LED turns off.
3) Now power off your phone.
4) When the phone is off, plug the charger into the phone and charge it until the LED turns green.
5) With the phone still off, unplug the charger and wait until the LED turns off.
6) Now power on the phone.
7) Wait until the phone is booted completely and then power off the phone again.
8) When the phone is off again plug the charger into your phone and charge it until the LED turns green.
9) Now boot your phone into recovery mode and navigate to the "Advanced" option using the volume up and down keys and then choose the option "Wipe Battery Stats."
10) Now reboot your phone and use it normally. You should notice improved battery life.

Wiping battery stats is actually been found to be ineffective/cause more harm than good the best way to actually "calibrate" the battery is to backup your rom flash to aosp or froyo with an sbc kernel let your phone drain til it powers off boot it back up and let it shut off again usually only takes a few mins sometimes it wont power on again, plug in charger wait til red led stops blinking turn the phone on and charge it to 100 uninterupted and leave it plugged in for 15-30 mins at 100% then nandroid back to your back up do this once a month or find an aosp setup u like and stick with it, the myth of sbc damaging li ion batteries is just that a myth newer phones have trickle charging kernels stock now such as the rezound et4g and a few others that i dont remember off the top of my head

Well, everyone has their own opinions. For me, I prefer the method I posted over the app for battery calibration, because I get better results. Also, I've never heard of any negative side-effects from wiping battery stats, but feel free to do what you wish.

Monday and Tuesday I stayed in New Orleans Louisiana. I typically had 5 bars as far as signal goes.. While there I didn't have to charge the phone at all for 2 days with heavy usage might I add. The minute I made it back to my small town, the battery started to drain incredibly fast! So I've come to the conclusion that it is the poor service that drains the battery. With that being said, I would like to thank you all for your input!
I've about had it with my EVO 4G. I can barely use the thing before the battery is down to 30% or lower. When I first unplug it in the morning, I'll browse reddit or XDA for all of 5-10 minutes and my battery will go down to 75% easily. I've tried tons of ROMs (running Energy w/Shooter Anthrax kernel as I heard it got amazing battery life) I've tried resetting the battery stats -- i've tried unplugging and replugging in the phone multiple times when the charge light is green, I've tried just about everything I can find on here dealing with battery issues and to no avail! Listed in my battery stats the only thing that's ever high is my Display usage but even factoring that in should I really only be getting an hour or two of mild internet usage before my battery is completely depleted? I can barely make it through a 6 hour work day (checking texts on breaks, light internet, maybe a 5 minute phone call) without having to recharge it in my car.
I'm open to ANY suggestions short of buying a new battery -- sadly it's not an option at the moment.
Do you keep 4G on? That drains a battery like nothing else if left on. Same with GPS, especially in Sense Roms for some reason.

i recommend using a aosp rom if battery life is a MUST. I would suggest you use Decks aosp rom with CoD tweaks Tiamat 3.7.7 and vipermod and underclock to 500 on smartass governor........all this is what you should do if you choose decks rom
Make sure your 4G is off, but Evo is known for its horrible battery but thats ridiculous. Try a new kernal to adjust to CPU settings. If that doesn't work, you might need a new battery. Evos are know for having their battery fried easily, mine fried and I had to get a new battery. :/
You should definitely make sure your 4g, Gps, Wifi, and blue tooth is off. If that does not work I would strongly suggest you downloading Cyanogenmod 7.1. When you aren't using the phone under clock it and do medium speed when you are using it. I last around 8-9 hours doing this. Hope it helps.
Okay I installed Decks Evo GB rom and the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel. I followed the guides but couldn't seem to do the undervolting correctly with the apps i was provided...but i'll do some testing and report back!
Can someone point me in the direction of the right app for undervolting and whatnot?

vipermod is used for undervolting http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/vipermod-voltage-control/
Also, it could just be that your battery is tired. Is it at all swollen, in the least bit or rock hard? It should feel firm, but give a little.
People tell me all the time, "my battery is not holding a charge", it's not designed to. But, how it releases the charhe, is another story. Obviously, it's also dependant on use. Remember, the phone is only rated at 5 hours talk time. I can't think of a time I've actually tried that, but when I have been caught on the phone for extended periods I've only gotten at most 2 hours of conversation out of a full battery.

What are you synching during the day and at what intervals? Governor and Min Max Speeds? Do you live/work in a crappy signal area? Use a lot of bluetooth or wifi?
I uninstalled facebook and twitter and whatever else asks you for your first born child permission wise, and stopped Maps from starting at basically five or six different system-wide events.
Purchase Autostarts from market and see what is running during each system wide event.

everything is stock in terms of intervals, and governor, and cpu speeds.
I travel all over, so my signal strength goes up and and down. But I think you may have hit the problem.
Before flashing (stock) I pretty much always had 4-5 bars wherever. After flashing (s-off, root, etc), I have never had above 2 bars.
Using my home as an example, I normally had 5 bars of service. Now looking at my phone, I have 1.
Internet speeds are fine (250kb/s down 87kb/s up). Phone call quality is the same.
My signal Strength in front of my computer is -77dbm. Outside my front door is -102dbm.
I wasn't getting the battery life i was, so i did flash v9 and i'm back at 1% battery loss while phone is unused. I wasn't getting that with v10 or v 10.5. I could barely get a day between charge. I should get 2 days with v9 because i did before.

You can try other radios. I understand some have better effects than others with each handset.
Also, I tend to update PRL and such before installing a new ROM using a stock ROM.
I have already tried the two recommended radios. The funny part is 0322 was the radio my phone had before I hacked it.
after flashing each rom you have to program and that updates the PRL anyways.
But just to be sure i did the roaming capabilities, and no change.
Ill try v9 of the kernel. anything else?

Na, the phone was fine on battery before the hack, from past experiences it's always been even better after. Maybe I'll restock and see if that helps.
Yeah Facebook has been performing poorly on many people's phones especially while on 3g. Sometimes loading very slowly and sometimes not at all. It has also been causing a wake lock problem which I personally experienced that wakes your phone while it should be asleep (not the screen just the os.) That causes battery life to be poor for many users.
I hear that FriendCaster is much better if you want an app to replace the app! Or some are using the mobile site if they don't care about notifications. Personally I just uninstalled Facebook after I started having problems and haven't been on Facebook since.
Try uninstalling the app and see if that helps. It nearly doubled my battery life when I did.

If, after rooting or more likely that case after flashing a new rom, you often have battery reporting errors, and re-calibrating the battery along with these steps may help, may not. But, worth a try anyhow:
1. Take the case off your device (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your device to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. Write it down.
My Atrix 2 was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your device completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours (or more).
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours (or more), turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM (if installed) or use Rom Manager (is device is supported).
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. When the phone turns on, go into Battery Calibration app again and look up your MV numbers -if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4351MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog Task Manager Lite from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
16. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more.
I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.

I also support FriendCaster. The facebook app hardly worked when I used it. The only time it half worked was when I was home and on wifi. I actually like what FriendCaster...I like what it does with the layout and I feel it's a lot more intuitive then the official app anyway. Plus for some reason facebook had become a datahog. This could be OPs problem in terms of battery drainage because Im pretty sure they download a lot in the background.
Mine lasts me 17 hours since unplugging from the charger.. I wake up at 7am unplug the phone then use it on the train to work... reading pulse news browsing YouTube videos.. when I get to work I plug it in to the stores audio system and use pulse to play music for our store while connected to wifi.. which I do for about 6 hours.. then someone else plugs in their phone... after that it just stays in my picket until 8pm when I get off work and I start streaming pulse again on hspa+.. I get home and I browse a lil bit before going to bed...
Would u say these are good battery hours or average.. and how are urs? Just curious and I'm sure a lot of people would learn from people sharing their stats.
I also dissabled a lot of apps in stock app manager.. most of them like Amazon and bunch of samsung bloatware.

I'm amazed at the battery life I typically get. My device is completely stock but would love to know more ways to save on life.

There are threads that talk about battery life and how to maximize. My batter life is not good but its only my device. I only get 12 hours run time and 2 hours screen on time. That pretty better than some phones, but crappy for an s3. I should have gotten the note...

Last cycle was 18/4.
@Osmosis i can give you some suggesting to improve battery life. 1. clear your cache and wipe your battery stats, 2. let your battery completely die drain and then charge up your phone full without a break in charge. 3. be aware of apps running in the background that use excessive data and resources that drain battery life. 4. Don't keep your phone plugged in after it's full charge, i hear that puts excess electricity into phone and battery.
And then 13/3.. Wtf
Leaving it plugged in doesn't matter. It stops pulling current. I know this through scientific experimentation. I have an outlet with USB ports and when stuff is charging they buzz but once fully charged they stop buzzing.

yeah mine too. around 12-13 hours if screen-on time is 3 hours. I ordered a spare battery...
the phone's radio runs all the time to scan for signals. So leave it plugged in is not good.
There are so many reasons why the battery life is good for some people and bad for some others.
If you only play games, you won't get 6 hours, if you are on Wifi or 4G it can make a big difference, if you are on 4G with a bad signal or if your screen britghness is low or very high, if you have 100 apps with wakelocks, etc, etc
For example :
A complete day on WIFI my battery life is awesome (5.5 to 6 hours screentime), on 4G my battery life is soso (3 hours screentime)
One thing that made a substantiall difference for me was using dark backgrounds for lock screen/home screen as well as for gmail/xda. But of course its hard to say because my day to day use of the phone is so varied. I think it made a difference =)
Pretty good.
I get over a day+a few hrs on mine. I use Wifi most of the time, and get 4-5 hrs of screen time. Of course, most stuff is turned off (sync, brightness turned down, ect).
