I just purchased the skype unlimited calling because i need to save on my minutes from verizon. I went to use it and it doesnt work in the united states to make a skype to land line or mobile phone call. It will not use my wifi connection either. Is there a way around this to be able to use skype to place calls over 3g or wifi to land line or mobile?

This.
Makes sense doesn't it? This has nothing to do with development. -_-
how much did you pay for skype, and why?

Go to your market link, and download it for *free* from Verizon. And it's for unlimited Skype to *Skype* calls, routed through Verizon by an agreement/partnership (most probably to keep themselves alive in the distant future).
Oh, yeah: You might wanna work on gettin' your money back.
not really because a way needs to be developed to bypass the lock down from Verizon tgat uses the Verizon minutes instead of routing through Skype when calling a us number... If I were to call Britain it would go through Skype why can there be a work around to use Skype to make a call to land line In the united states ... this is why I put in development .... if some one can do a work around then people can use Skype and not have to waste money on a Verizon calling plan !!

I have downloaded Skype but it says that u have to use Verizon minutes to make a call through Skype to us land line but can use Skype to call a land line outside of us .... what's with that... does anyone else see how stupid this is for Verizon to have locked thus feature down just do they can get a few extra bucks from people already paying for high priced plans ...

Use skype via fring this has been discussed and many say it doesnt use your minutes.
Skype doesn't work worth a damn even with Fring. Ditch Skype and use Fring with a SIP account like freecall. Skype has completely sold out to VZW. Move along now and go to sip which is more open anyway.
I use fring all the time with no issues. The video calls work real well too
what is the best SIP account

[Q] Quick Skype question

Does the Skype app recently released for Android use your mobile minutes like it did on the Verizon Skype app?

Skype to Skype is free, but Skype to cell phone or land line calls aren't free. Skype warns you that if you do not do Skype to Skype calling/instant messaging then you will be charged so there shouldn't be any hidden fees. Hope I cleared it up for you.

[Q] Motorola Defy and skype

hello,
I've just installed the skype(latest ver) on my Defy and I'm absolutely imposible to make any calls (incoming/outgoing). It is actually making calls but all I hear is clicking noise and a very stuttering voice - absolutely rubish. Suppose I'm using 3G data ( it says "H" on the task bar wich sometimes changes to "3G" don't know what's the difference)
Phone is Tmob-UK, prety much untoched, unruted.
Can any one make a calls on Defy?
If so, what am I doing wrong? is there any settings I'm missing?
Thanks for the help?
P.S. same thing happens on my old phone (nokia 5800) using the very same SIM card.
T-mobile uk will throttle voip applications over 3g (inc skype) unless you upgrade to broadband max (or something like that). Should work fine over wifi though.

[Q] Windows Mobile on Epic

There is a windows mobile app that I use for work (TypeWell Pocket) that is unavailable for android. I am wondering if there is a way to put Windows Mobile 6.5 on my Epic 4g (all it would need is wi-fi. I don't need cell service, I don't need anything on the phone to work other than this app which requires the wi-fi to be functional).
I'm about to get the Epic 4g Touch to use as my dd so this Epic would be purely used for the TypeWell pocket app.
So . . . is this possible? A year ago people were saying that it would be impossible because of windows being closed source . . . but the question hasn't been visited in a while.

[Q] T-mobile galaxy S2 hotspot

Hello, One of the main reasons for me buying a galaxy s2 and switching to T-Mobile unlimited from virgin mobile was to use wifi hotspot in my car for streaming radio and the like. well when i got it i found out that not only did it not work, but i cant even pay extra to have it as it's not supported by my 70 dollar a month plan. I haven't rooted my phone or installed any other roms on it, it's just stock.
do any of you know which rom would support mobile hotspot so i can use it if any? id hate to go back to virgin mobile after spending all this money to have a fast network.
-thanks

I'm pretty sure almost all of them support free tethering. From my experience, any CM ROM will have free tethering. I have always been a die hard fan of CM and never really used any other ROM except the super sexy MIUI. Which I am using the JB version atm. The only issue with this ROM is the lack of WiFi calling but I will gladly trade WiFi calling for the sexiness that is MIUI! Pretty stable so far! No issues.
You should try CM9. Its an ICS ROM and is better than CM10 IMHO. Only because CM9 allows you to tweak it a bit more. Cyanogenmod is the most stable ROM out IMHO. Def a wise choice that you will not regret.
The thing about tethering is it uses your data plan. So if you have anything less than unlimited.... your most likely going to run into problems. That throttling crap is a pain in the butt! I had a 2GB plan and used it up in a few days due to YouTube and Pandora and it would take 10 minutes just to load Facebook. I also use T-Mobile but I paid the extra $10 a month for unlimited.

Just as codecaine21 mentioned, most of the custom ROMs out there have tethering capabilities. If you will be tethering via a laptop, be sure to see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677490 . You may need to change the UA string in your laptop's web browser to avoid being redirected to a t-mobile mobile web plan page. If you are tethering using a mobile device, you shouldn't have any issues. Hope this helps.

If he is running CM or MIUI, he would not need to change his browsers UA string.
When has the UA string ever been an issue on a custom/aftermarket ROM?

No Root Tethering ICS stock rom - go to settings, applications, on top list select All, find TetheringProvisioning and disable it.
free wifi tethering t-mobile sgh-t989 4.0.4 works
okay let me just start off by saying I did not figure this out by myself. someone put me on to this method about a year ago here on xda I'm sorry i can't remember the user name but if you know who you are thankyou. first of all you must be rooted for this method next download titanium backup open up titanium backup grant superuser permission if this is your first time using the application next click on the middle button back up/restore scroll almost all the way to the bottom find tethering provisions click on tethering provision if you have Titanium Backup Pro you will be able to backup this file and or freeze the file or completely uninstall the file next find wifi sharing manager also under backup/ restore once both of these files are either frozen or uninstalled reboot your phone and enjoy free wifi tethering
Try this ....

Ok. For those that ARE NOT running 4.1/4.2, The tethering provision has already been removed. The newest CM builds have a very difficult time using the Tether for Root users. Some people would like to say that all it takes is to change the device profile to Galaxy S2, but that doesn't work. And the OP said he is running stock, no root. Not many apps, if any, will work with his device on 4.0.4. Might have to downgrade to GB. That was the last time WIFI Tether for Root users worked for me.
He in 4.0.4 stock rom root

i've been using infamous resurrection 2.0 and hot spot works just fine. this ROM is pretty much like the stock one with few modifications. Other folks talk about other ROMs; yes they do work well; but if you prefer something closer to stock like me, then infamous would be something to consider.

Thanks a lot for all of your info. i manged to root my phone with no problems and flashed my phone to aokp_hercules_jb-mr1_build-5.
This is my first time flashing a new rom on a phone and this one seems pretty stable. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and there hasn't been any problems yet. If i didn't know i would think this build shipped with the phone. google now works great, USB tether works, and mobile hotspot works with some trial and error. however, when my ipod and ipad both connect to mobile hotspot, they do nothing. I was trying to stream pandora and tunein from from the ipod through my car using hotspot but i guess it's just a problem with iOS devices as other phones and laptops connect fine.
This will work for now until either the real JB comes out or I buy a nexus or new galaxy device. thanks.
