Im not a dev, but I can use a text editor
Here is the honeycomb boot animation to play with as we wait for our tasty honeycomb.
Just replace bootanimation.zip in system/media/ either by reflashing the rom of your choice or by any other means you might know.
once again im no dev but I did this to for myself and thought it was really cool and wanted to share.
enjoy!
A screenshot would be nice...
Thanks...

you don't need gif images, you need png images
you could simply download the zip file and resize your images to 800x480 and rename them with a numerical order and replace all the images included, zip it back up and done

[09/28/09] Theme for 4.1.11.1 @14:40
- HUGE THANK YOU TO DRIZZY FOR THE IMAGES TO WORK WITH
- Nothing special, just the basis for a beautiful Blur theme
- I used Oreo as the base so some of this theme may look familiar
- Animations from Blur have been added
BlurSpec for CM 4.1.11.1: Download Here
did u add the animations too
Its only the basic graphics at this point, no animations or anything actually from Blur.
animations r really easy to add just drag and drop the animations folder from drizzy's new hero release with blur the animations r located in the framework-res.apk file glad u made this blur looks really nice

It sounds like you need to run the .reg file to add it to the registry.
Can you please upload to here or another hosting site?
Animations and a few other things added
Nice Job
Good job man this goes perfect with my white mytouch 3G
Very beautiful. Love to try it but that CM is experimental.
Will you be themeing/adding stericsons lockscreen? If not is there a way to push it?
Thanks for all yours and drizzys hard work, i plan on getting the cliq and its nice to have a preview of whats to come
please add stericsons lock screen to this
If you do ad stericsons lock screen, can you make it so there is an option to have it or not. I'm not really a big fan of the lockscreen.
Sexy. Thanks for this

Thanks in adcance.

Anyone ?
I'm no Dev, but maybe if you provided someone with a jpeg, they might be able to work with it.
Also, I think there's a way that the user can edit the boot animation through system files, search the forum a bit, and you may find.

same way i described just rename to bootanimation.zip first
Android actually keeps*two*copies of the animation file. One is stored at*/data/local*and the other at*/system/media. The difference between these locations is minor.
The /data/local copy does not require root access. The phone also uses this animation before the other.
The other one in /system/media does require root. However, installing a new animation to /system/media means that it will survive a factory reset. It’s a trade-off.

buddy, just look into /system/media. There would be a bootanimation.zip. just have a copy of that first & then follow the process below:
Extract the above given file after downloading
in System/media folder there might be bootanimation.zip file
replace it with your mobile /system/media/
Give right of -rw-r--r--
Reboot. Enjoy..
For safety purpose, take backup first.
This DOES NOT work on the i9300/note 2 and never will, please stop asking about it.
Please take all questions/discussion to the d2_vzw thread HERE because it is the only one I'll monitor!
Thanks to the work of invisiblek and some Google searching I was able to come up with the following tool:
This tool takes a 720x1280 .PNG image and converts it to a recovery-flashable splash screen in a single click.
A video so you can see what this changes: http://youtu.be/XXaBJTVQ2Sw
How to use:
Making your own splash screen:
0) Download and extract the .zip file
1) Make a 720x1280 .png image you want to be your splash screen (this comes in-between the boot animation and the quick Samsung logo flash)
2) Name it "initlogo.png" without the quotes
3) Place it in the PNGtoConvert folder
4) Run the "PNG-2-RLE.bat" file
5) You are finished! A "flashthisinrecovery.zip" will appear in the same directory as the batch files. Just flash it in recovery and enjoy your new splash screen!
Note: If you want the .RLE and not the whole flashable, it can be found as "initlogo.rle" in the "kernel" folder or you can pull it from the kernel folder inside the "flashmeinrecovery.zip"
Converting an .RLE that you made back to a .PNG for editing:
0) Download an extract the .zip file
1) Copy the "initlogo.rle" you want to convert to a .PNG to the RLEtoConvert folder. It must be named "initlogo.rle"
2) Run the "RLE-2-PNG.bat"
3) PNG will be in the PNGtoConvert folder named "initlogoOUTPUT.png"
Other notes:
I have included the stock initlogo as a .PNG named "initlogoSTOCKBACKUP.png" for your reference/backup purposes. If you want to test the tool with it, remember to rename it to initlogo.png
If you flash a new kernel/rom the splash will revert to stock. To get it back, just flash the "flashmeinrecovery.zip" again. You don't need to reconvert it or anything.
This has only been tested with the d2_vzw but will work with all USA (S4 CPU) variants!
Credits:
invisiblek for the recovery zip scripting

As always, even though this tool has been tested, nobody is responsible to damage to your phone except yourself!

if you mean animated? no. if it's just a static picture in .gif format, convert it to PNG. just finished creating my new one. so stoked to have this ability!
EDIT: tested it and flashed my own creation. WOW. to go from that black screen to this bright and colorful one. looks HUGE and truly beautiful. there is no loss in color or anything. awesome!

Works on Sprint GSIII. Seemed odd and redundant that .png would be in the name for the initlogo and indeed it did not work that way. Saving it as a PNG file with the name "initlogo" only did the trick, which makes sense.
I modified Max's terrific logo to exclude the MetroPCS tag and it is attached. Looks great.
if you want it I can attach the full sized one without the MetroPCS logo. that's just the stock logo with some Photoshop filters applied.
Using odyssey rom i noticed the framework system animations looked pretty amazing. It's it possible that someone can create a flashable zip of that system animation transitions? Do that it can be used for other roms too.
Thanks.

post here the framework-res.apk from the ROM (Sorry, i can't download it, i have bad internet connection) and i will make the mod flashable
You will have to make it for the rom you are using. Each rom builds different frameworks so flashing one from a different rom could lead to a bootloop. You will have to swap out the animation files in the framework-res and then recompile it.

i decompiled and added some animator folders to the rom and then re-zipped the rom. Animations did work to some extent for animations of slide in and fade out for that matter. But i couldnt find those files of animator folder that makes carousel type animation when entering and exiting tasks. Cant explain in the best possible way but an odyssey user might get what im trying to say.
Thanks for your effort @enricocid
